Comic-Con 2010 Preview: ‘Green Lantern,’ ‘Harry Potter’ And More

Seth Rogen, Bruce Willis, casts of ‘Thor’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ expected to give talks and sneak peeks. By Eric Ditzian Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. Fluff the fur on your Wookiee costume. Put the final touches on that homemade Wonder Woman outfit and make sure your Batman suit isn’t that embarrassing one with the nipples on it. That mecca of pop-culture geekery known as San Diego Comic-Con is once again upon us. The festival kicks off with a preview on Wednesday evening (July 21), followed by four-straight days of sneak-peek looks at celebs, movies, comics, games and much more. MTV News will be right in the thick of the madness, bringing you daily live-streams from the Con. Get ready for heady chats with Seth Rogen (“The Green Hornet”) and Robert Rodriguez (“Machete”) on Thursday; the casts of “Tron: Legacy” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” on Friday; and lots of surprise appearances on Saturday. Of course, we’ll also be bringing you fresh scoops from the convention — the latest news on some of the most anticipated Hollywood films. Here are some of the movies we can’t wait to check out: “Green Lantern”: Saturday at 11:45 a.m. PT Saturday marks the kickoff of Warner Bros.’ blockbuster presentation in Hall H, and there’s little doubt “Green Lantern,” based on the DC Comics property, is the studio’s most eagerly awaited flick. Coming on the heels of a first look at Ryan Reynolds as the titular superhero , fans have been promised the first-ever glimpse at actual movie footage. There’s no official word that Reynolds will be in the house, but we’re going to go ahead and predict he’ll make an appearance. “Tron: Legacy”: Friday at 11:15 a.m. PT This sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic has appeared at three straight Cons. After premiering test footage in ’08 and a more robust video in ’09, you can now expect Disney to deliver a hefty look at the new film, which arrives in theaters in December. Castmembers expected to attend include Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund and Michael Sheen, as well as director Joseph Kosinski. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”: Saturday at 11:45 a.m. PT Anything having to do with the boy wizard shoots immediately to the top of many Con-goers’ wish-lists. This year, Warner Bros. will debut fresh “Deathly Hallows” footage, as the studio pushes toward opening the first part of this series’ finale in December. No castmembers have been announced, but there’s always a chance someone from Hogwarts might stop by to greet fans. “Thor” & “Captain America: The First Avenger” Saturday at 6 p.m. PT We’ve been checking out concept art and photos for both these Marvel adaptations, but who knows what we’ll get at the Con? “Thor” has been shooting since early this year, while “Captain America” just began production last month. Will we get footage from either flick? Let’s wait and see. We do hear “Thor” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings will be at the Con, and we’re also hoping to see Captain America himself, Chris Evans, drop in on the festivities. “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”: Thursday at 6 p.m. PT In the midst of the Marvel and DC behemoth is “Scott Pilgrim,” a graphic novel series that started out as an indie hit and has now graduated to the mainstream. Clips and trailers have been lighting up on the Web for months, so who knows how they’ll step it up for Con fans. We expect, somehow, they will. Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzman will be on hand, as well as director Edgar Wright and series author Bryan Lee O’Malley. Michael Cera Recalls Hanging With ‘Jersey Shore’ Cast

‘We got drunk … and danced and got in a hot tub and ate pizza,’ ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena Michael Cera in the hot tub after his “Jersey Shore” makeover Photo: MTV News While he’s made a splash in a string of lovable, if nerdy, roles, Michael Cera took on a new part of sorts earlier this year when he allowed the cast of the “Jersey Shore” to give him a very special, personalized makeover. Now, in a new interview with Playboy, the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” star recounts the time he spent with Snooki, the Situation and rest of the crew. “Actually, it was one of the most pleasant days I’ve had in a long time,” Cera says in the magazine’s August issue . “We got drunk and laughed and danced and got in a hot tub and ate pizza. It was sort of like my 8th birthday party.” While he has no plans to resurrect his “guido” look anytime soon, next up, Cera will star in August 13’s “Scott Pilgrim,” and he addresses critics who say his onscreen work tends to appeal, a bit too much maybe, those living in nerd-land. “I would say this movie is both a nerd and a non-nerd’s dream come true. For the nerds, there are lots of Nintendo references and sound effects, and the non-nerds will enjoy making fun of all the nerds in the theater exploding with joy, and afterward, will possibly beat them all up.” When talk turned to his “Scott Pilgrim” co-star Anna Kendrick, Cera readily responds to the question of how he stacks up against Kendrick’s “Up in the Air” leading man, George Clooney. ” ‘Natural transition’ is not the phrase I would use. ‘Handsome transition’ seems to be a better phrase to encapsulate what that lucky girl has experienced,” Cera joked. “Unfortunately, Anna and I got to work together for only one day,” he continued. “Though she plays my sister in the movie, one of our biggest scenes together takes place over the phone, and we shot our respective sides of the conversation at completely different times on the shooting schedule. She regrets that we weren’t able to spend more time together,” he added. “We got close enough for me to feel comfortable in assuming that.” Do you think Michael Cera should revive his “Jersey Shore” look? Michael Cera Flirts with 100% Facetious Record During Playboy Interview

Look, we know Michael Cera can be a difficult interview (though we managed it ): the star is so fond of making up wild stories and sarcastic asides that you really have to dig deep to get anything real. Pity the poor Playboy interviewer, then, who caught him on the most facetious day of his life.

‘Scott Pilgrim’ Director Edgar Wright Breaks Down Exclusive Clip

He reveals that Chris Evans’ look-alikes in the footage are his actual stunt men. By Rick Marshall Michael Cera in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” Photo: Universal During the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” director Edgar Wright introduced an exclusive new clip from his much-anticipated comic book adaptation. And while the footage of Michael Cera’s Scott Pilgrim throwing down with skateboarder-turned-actor Lucas Lee (Chris Evans) was impressive on its own, Wright took some time out to explain the clip a little better to MTV readers — and offer a little behind-the-scenes information about the scene too. “[It’s] a clip of ex number two, who is Lucas Lee, pro skateboarder-turned-action star played by Chris Evans, and he’s making a new film in Toronto,” Wright explained. “Rather unwisely, Scott Pilgrim stumbles across the set and is about to get his ass handed to him.” As Wright said, it’s only the second of seven battles Scott Pilgrim must wage against the evil ex-lovers of his girlfriend, Ramona Flowers. But when Scott ends up on the wrong side of a beating in the clip, it isn’t delivered by Evans’ character. As you see in the clip (if you haven’t watched it, do it now!), Lucas Lee’s stunt team gets in on the action, forcing Scott to fight off not one, but a whole crew of Lucas look-alikes. According to Wright, the stunt team also happens to be a real group of stunt actors who double for Evans. “They are his stunt guys,” Wright told MTV News. “And the joke is that, as they fan out, they look less and less like Chris Evans. So the main one looks very much like Chris Evans, two and three are pretty good, [but] five, six and seven, not so good.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Guillermo del Toro Admits: ‘I am No Longer an Official Voice for The Hobbit’

The Hobbit may be down a director amidst turmoil at MGM, but it keeps moving right along. (Psst, Lost fans: we hear that Widmore and Keamy both went in to read for roles this past week). Since Guillermo del Toro bolted from the production last week, he’s promised to deliver a second statement about just what went down, and that longer missive came late last night. His explanation? Yeah, it was basically that whole “I wanted my life back ever endless delays” thing.

Scott Pilgrim Wants Some Friends

Whether Scott Pilgrim vs. The World winds up being a sleeper hit this August or not, one thing is abundantly clear: The core audience of geeks is jacked for this movie in the same way a pack of girls wearing Jimmy Choo shoes are for Sex and the City 2 . The latest bit of proof for that comes from Facebook , where director Edgar Wright has promised to release a new trailer for the film once it gets 100,000 fans. And while that might not seem like a lot, bear in mind that Knight and Day has under 5,000. Since the first trailer was so good , do everyone a favor and head over there, Facebook privacy issues be damned! [Facebook via Ain’t It Cool ]
