The Hurley & Ben Show: Lost Epilogue to Get DVD Release

If watching Lost taught you anything — besides that you never tell John Locke what he can’t do — it’s that Michael Emerson is quite good at playing a role that requires him to coerce, misdirect and flat-out lie. So take this bit of news with a slight grain of salt, just because — well, it’s coming from the man who brought Benjamin Linus to life. Appearing on Attack of the Show on G4, Emerson revealed that there will be a 12-14 minute epilogue on the Lost complete series DVD set that will center on what happened when Hurley took control of the Island. Hint: Mr. Clucks for everyone! After the jump, video of Emerson — doing his best McLovin’ impression — and a crackpot theory as to what the final epilogue might actually be.

‘Lost’ DVD Set Will Feature Hurley/Ben Epilogue

Star Michael Emerson says bonus feature will show 12-14 minutes of the duo’s Island adventures. By Adam Rosenberg The cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC Hurley: “You know, you were a real good number two.” Ben: “And you were a great number one, Hugo.” This brief exchange between Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Ben (Michael Emerson) in the final stretch of “Lost” series finale “The End” suggested that a lifetime of adventures unfolded for the Island duo before they eventually moved on and reunited with their friends in the pre-afterlife . And fans will actually get to glimpse those adventures when season six of “Lost” arrives on DVD and Blu-ray. “For those people that want to pony up and buy the complete ‘Lost’ series, there is a bonus feature — you could call it an epilogue, a lost scene,” Emerson said during an appearance on G4’s “Attack of the Show.” “It’s a lot, 12 or 14 minutes, that opens a window on that gap of unknown time between Hurley becoming number one and the end of the series.” The revelation was greeted with gasps of surprise from the studio audience. Additional answers had been promised for the “Lost” season six DVD release , but no details had been revealed before Emerson spoke. Asked if he regretted making the reveal, the actor replied with a smile, “I’m rolling over that in my mind.” The follow-up question, of course, is if this footage might hint at some kind of “Lost” spin-off, something that showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have sworn time and again won’t happen — at least, not with them at the helm. “It’s self-contained,” Emerson replied. “Although it’s a rich period in the show’s mythology that has never been explored. So who knows what will come of it?” Do you think the adventures of Hurley and Ben would be enough for a whole new show? Sound off in the comments. What Is ‘Lost’ All About, Anyway?

‘Lost’ star Michael Emerson and MTV News try to make sense of mysterious plot before series finale on Sunday. By Josh Wigler Cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC “Lost” is not simply about a plane crashing on a mysterious island. It cannot be classified as pure science fiction or jungle adventure or any other number of genres. There are numerous philosophical issues at the core of “Lost,” but distilling the series into one idea isn’t just a daunting task — it’s a virtually impossible one. But that won’t stop Michael Emerson, who plays the eerie Benjamin Linus on the hit series, from trying. “On the surface, ‘Lost’ seems to be a universal survival adventure,” Emerson explained of the concept in a message recorded for MTV News. “But as it goes along, it becomes revealed to be much more than that: a science-fiction and time-travel drama; an allegory of sin and redemption and past lives and hope for the future. “It’s a lot,” he ultimately conceded. We’ll try to clarify his explanation with some additional details. The series debuted in 2004 with a simple premise: Oceanic Flight 815 crashes on a tropical island with a handful of passengers miraculously surviving the accident. But this is no ordinary island: in addition to the expected wild boar and exotic birds, there are polar bears, an indigenous group called the Others and an ancient monster made out of black smoke. Our heroes are tasked with facing down these forces, while struggling to survive and find a way off the island. But when a lucky few finally manage to escape, it becomes apparent that these men and women were never supposed to leave. They were always destined to carry out a higher purpose in this jungle of mystery. As the show progressed and the mysteries deepened, “Lost” kept itself grounded through a compelling cast of characters: Jack, a heroic doctor with an obsessive need to fix everything; Kate, a fugitive with nowhere left to run; Sawyer, a conman hiding the heart of a hero; Hurley, an overweight multimillionaire with an unlucky curse; Sayid, an Iraqi torturer looking to put the past behind him; Jin and Sun Kwon, a married couple with trust issues; Claire, a pregnant woman unsure about becoming a mother; and Locke, a paraplegic whose spine is healed by the island, leading him to believe that he and his fellow survivors were always meant to be here — an assertion that Jack initially rejects. But Jack began to view the island from Locke’s perspective once it was revealed that the enigmatic Jacob brought the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 to the island — the skeptical Jack included — in an effort to find his successor as the island’s ruler. Before he could finalize his replacement, Jacob was murdered by Ben, the disenfranchised former leader of the Others who felt neglected by Jacob. Ben carried out the deed at the request of the vicious smoke monster, which is actually Jacob’s brother and eternal nemesis posing as a deceased John Locke. With Jacob dead, the monster simply needed to kill his brother’s remaining candidates, which would allow him to finally leave the island and explore the outside world. In addition to the already-dead Locke, the monster succeeded in killing half of these candidates: Sun, Jin and Sayid. A ghostly Jacob was able to reach out to the rest of candidates to warn them of what was at stake: If the smoke monster is allowed to leave the island, the outside world would succumb to his might. Furthermore, the monster should be prevented at any cost from gaining access to a sacred light at the heart of the island. In order to protect this light, one of Jacob’s candidates needed to volunteer to take up the mantle as guardian of the island. Jack volunteered for the position and was given instructions on where to find the light before the monster could get to it. But the monster currently has his sights set on something else: Desmond Hume, a tragic hero with a unique relationship to the space-time continuum as a result of exposure to electromagnetic energy — an energy that permeates the island’s all-important light. With Desmond’s help, the monster believes, not only can he leave the island, but he can destroy it too. The rub is that Desmond’s whereabouts are unknown. Last seen trapped in a well, he’s apparently escaped since then. Desmond’s ability to destroy the island might have something to do with his knowledge of a sideways universe where Oceanic Flight 815 never crashed and landed safely in Los Angeles. He is one of few people in this sideways universe who remembers his time on the island, something that he’s hoping to fix. As the finale looms, Desmond’s mission to awaken our heroes’ sideways selves remains an mysterious factor in the show’s end game. Indeed, there are countless characters, organizations and enigmatic entities that could have a huge impact on how “Lost” concludes. With so many questions still dangling unanswered, there’s really only one certainty at this point: On Sunday night, this confounding, occasionally frustrating and enormously entertaining journey will finally reach its end. How do you hope “Lost” will end on Sunday? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Counting Down To The ‘Lost’ Finale! Related Photos Spin-Offs For The Characters Of ‘Lost’

‘Mean Girls’ Follow-Up ‘Mean Moms’ In The Works

Lindsay Lohan and company won’t be back for new flick about suburban parents. By Jocelyn Vena Lindsey Lohan on the “Mean Girls” poster Photo: Paramount Pictures Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams learned their lessons about putting enemies in their burn book a long time ago. But Hollywood seems to think a different generation should get in on the action. Following the theme of the 2004 comedy co-written by Tina Fey “Mean Girls,” “Mean Moms” is being prepped for the big screen, Variety reports. No names have been attached to star in the project yet, but Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and Jill Messick are all in talks to produce the flick for New Line. Much like “Mean Girls,” “Mean Moms” will be based on an advice book by Rosalind Wiseman. Wiseman’s “Queen Bees and Wannabees: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and the New Realities of Girl World” was the basis for the Lindsay Lohan flick about a girl who goes from homeschooling to the dangerous world of high school. The new film will take on the subject of the author’s 2006 book, “Queen Bee Moms and King Pin Dads: Dealing with the Parents, Teachers, Coaches, and Counselors Who Can Make — or Break — Your Child’s Future.” According to Variety, Dara and Chad Creasey will write the “Mean Moms” screenplay about a “happily married mother of two who moves from small town America to the high class suburbs and is faced with confronting the cut throat world of competitive parenting.” None of the characters from the first flick will appear in the sequel. Scant other details are known about when production will begin or when it may hit theaters. Wiseman’s first novel, “Boys, Girls and Other Hazardous Materials,” which explores bullying among boys as well as girls in the digital age, was published earlier this year. ‘Lost’ Star Michael Emerson Will Miss ‘Exotic Adventure’ Of The Island

The man behind Ben Linus has bittersweet emotions about this week’s finale By Adam Rosenberg, with reporting by Josh Wigler Photo: MTV News On Tuesday night’s “Lost,” Michael Emerson’s Benjamin Linus was pulled in two directions. On the Island, the always-devious former Other recovered from his recent efforts to repent, killing Charles Widmore and allying himself with the malevolent entity that fans have come to know as the Smoke Monster. Meanwhile, in the sideways timeline, a kinder, gentler Linus was introduced by favorite student Alex (Tania Raymonde) to her mother, the long-departed Danielle Rousseau (Mira Furlan). Similarly, Emerson finds himself pulled in opposite directions as the much-beloved series that he is a fundamental part of approaches its two-and-a-half-hour finale this Sunday. While there are certainly some things that he won’t miss, he told MTV News that it’s a bittersweet parting. “I guess I’ll miss the exotic adventure of the process,” Emerson said. “I don’t think I’ll ever again go to work in jungles or on cliffs or in majestic valleys where you cannot help but be in character and in the place where these events happen, because they’re overpowering.” “Lost” started, and will very likely end, on a mysterious island in the Pacific. Though the show has featured action (in the past, future and “sideways” universe) in other parts of the world, the remote island setting has always been a fundamental focus, an oddity in television programming today. “Most of the time you work on TV, it’s in courtrooms and precincts and offices and stuff like that,” Emerson said. “[‘Lost’ is] like old school, like making movies in faraway places. It had that exoticism about it.” What the soft-spoken actor won’t miss is the time away from his family. His wife, Carrie Preston, is a star on HBO’s vampire series “True Blood,” which shoots in Los Angeles, quite a distance away from the “Lost” set in Hawaii. As Emerson said, “I’m happy that I’ll never again have to figure out what to do on a Sunday night in Honolulu.” Head over to the MTV Movies Blog to vote for the “Lost” Awards from now through the finale.

‘Lost’ Star Says Series Hurtling ‘Full Throttle Toward Resolution’

‘Ben finds notes of tenderness in his life,’ Michael Emerson says of his character in penultimate episode airing tonight. By Josh Wigler Michael Emerson Photo: MTV News Benjamin Linus is many things: a liar, a manipulator, a mass-murderer and, most recently, a pawn. What he isn’t, however, is lucky in romance. But that’s all about to change on tonight’s penultimate episode of “Lost,” titled “What They Died For.” Speaking with MTV News, actor Michael Emerson revealed that his character, Ben, the onetime leader of the mysterious Others, will finally have some chance at love on “Lost” — in his flash-sideways life, that is. “I guess there might be [romance], yeah,” he told us when asked about rumors of a romantic interest for Ben’s sideways counterpart. “You could take it that way. Teacher Ben finds, at long last, notes of tenderness in his life.” Emerson admitted that love has been “tough for Island Ben — he doesn’t have that. But why shouldn’t Teacher Ben? Maybe that’s one of the morals of the flash-sideways: that [a] quieter life does sometimes allow for kinds of sweetness that are unavailable when you’re chasing the big game on the Island.” Speaking of chasing big game on the Island, Emerson promised that tonight’s episode gets back into the thick of the end game, following last week’s divisive and mythology-heavy episode, “Across the Sea.” Emerson teased: “This is full throttle, main line ‘Lost’ island mythology . We’re hurtling towards a resolution. It’s strong.” Fans who’ve noticed Ben’s absence in recent episodes will be happy to hear he’s back in the spotlight in tonight’s outing. The actor himself acknowledges that Ben has plenty of issues to resolve before the series concludes on Sunday. In fact, Emerson promised resolution on two issues: Ben’s relationship with Locke (“Yes, that’s by no means finished,” he said) and his rivalry with Charles Widmore. “Oh yes, those characters will meet again,” Emerson cryptically revealed of Ben and Widmore’s shared future, one that might not be revealed until “The End.” Are you excited for these last two episodes of “Lost”?
