Michael Jackson’s Family: NOT HAPPY With Wrongful Death Verdict

Michael Jackson’s family is disappointed. What transpired in court Wednesday, when a jury found that AEG Live was not liable for his death, is beyond them. Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Trial Verdict “We think this was a very important case to bring for a lot of reasons,” Kevin Boyle, a lawyer for Katherine Jackson, told reporters after the verdict. “We think what we’ve done with this case is proved some things that are important for the Jackson family, for the concert industry and the sports industry.” “With regard to treatment by doctors,” Boyle said, the family proved its point, however. “We, of course, are not happy with the result as it stands now.” “We will be exploring all options legally and factually,” he added. A jury in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial decided that AEG Live was not responsible for Jackson’s 2009 death of acute propofol intoxication. Despite having hired the man who administered the fatal dose, Dr. Conrad Murray , AEG won and the family’s quest for billions in damages was denied. If the jury had been asked to determine what was “ethical” and what wasn’t when it came to Jackson’s final days, the verdict may have been different. But they weren’t, so the six men and six women who listened to five months of testimony found that the concert promoter was not criminally negligent. “This was a difficult decision for us to make. It wasn’t easy for anyone,” jury foreman Gregg Barden told reporters outside the courthouse after the verdict. “Conrad Murray was hired to be a general practitioner,” he said, explaining the decision. “We thought he was competent to be a general practitioner.” “That doesn’t mean we thought [Murray] was ethical. If the word ‘ethical’ was involved in the question, then there might have been a different outcome.” Juror No. 9, Kevin Smith, said it was evident that AEG, despite having hired Murray to care for Jackson, ” had no idea what was going on behind closed doors.” “If they knew, it would have made a world of difference,” he said. “All along we saw the same pattern, that no one could go upstairs. How could AEG do anything about it if they didn’t know what was going on?” “No one could say no to Michael Jackson or they would have been out.” AEG Live VP Shawn Trell was “very pleased with the result” and attorney Marvin Putnam said they never considered trying to settle out of court. “There was never, ever, ever any chance AEG would ever consider settling this matter because that would have been wrong…No one wins here,” he added. “But the unfortunate tragedy wasn’t of AEG’s making.” Do you agree? Tell us: Was justice served?   Yes. What happened is all on MJ and/or Dr. Murray. No. AEG knew about Murray and pushed MJ too hard! View Poll »

Lawsuits: Jury Finds AEG Not Liable In Michael Jackson’s Death

Michael is turning in his grave. Jury Finds AEG Not Liable In Michael Jackson’s Death This lawsuit has had so many twist and turns from AEG’s CEO claiming he spoke to Michael’s ghost to the Jackson’s attorney claiming AEG was ruthless. The sad part is AEG will never be held accountable for pushing a man who clearly was not 100 percent healthy and had no business performing. According to TMZ The Jackson family just LOST their bid to hold AEG Live accountable for Michael Jackson’s death. The jury ruled AEG Live did hire Conrad Murray. That’s huge. The jury then ruled Conrad Murray was NOT unfit or incompetent to treat MJ. Katherine and the kids lose. So here’s the thing. The question that ruined Katherine’s case was whether Murray was competent to handle Jackson when he was hired, and the jury said he was. Ironically, a jury in the criminal case ruled Murray then went off the rails and did things that ultimately killed MJ. But because he was competent at the outset — the Jackson family lost. Katherine Jackson and Michael’s 3 kids were suing AEG, claiming the company negligently hired and supervised Dr. Conrad Murray and pushed MJ way beyond the limits for his “This Is It” tour. AEG claimed Michael hired Murray and what went on between them was a secret to all … including AEG. The real losers here are Katherine and the children. This verdict is a slap in the face to kids who had to relive this drama. Dr. Conrad Murray was half the problem…AEG needed to be punished for milking the cash cow to the limit. R.I.P. Cory Monteith Death Report Confirms Presence of Heroin, Champagne in Hotel Room

According to the final coroner’s report, released today, Cory Monteith was shooting heroin and drinking champagne on the night he died. The official findings say responders arrived to Cory’s Vancouver hotel room shortly after noon on July 13 and found there a “spoon with drug residue and a used hypodermic needle.” They also discovered two empty champagne glasses and bottles. The coroner lists Monteith’s cause of death as “mixed drug toxicity, involving intravenous heroin use combined with the ingestion of alcohol.” Because Monteith, 31 at the time of his passing, had been off the wagon since April, the coroner notes that his tolerance for foreign substances may have been lower than in the past. He likely believed his body could handle what he was putting in it. The report also concludes that the Glee star “had a history of illicit drug use with intermittent periods of rehabilitation and of abstinence from drugs.” Glee Season 5 will pay tribute to Monteith a special, drug-themed episode on Thursday, October 10.

Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Trial Verdict: AEG Live Wins, Family Loses

Michael Jackson’s family has lost its bid to hold AEG Live accountable for the singer’s death 2009. A jury sided with the concert promoter on Wednesday. Why? The jury ruled AEG Live did hire Dr. Conrad Murray, which was key for the family, but the jury then ruled Conrad Murray was NOT unfit or incompetent. Game over. Michael Jackson Family Loses Wrongful Death Lawsuit The issue that ultimately torpedoed Katherine Jackson’s case was whether Murray was competent to treat MJ when he was hired. The jury said he was. It’s an interesting finding, as Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in criminal court for going rogue and doing things that killed Jackson. Because he was competent at the onset, however, and because AEG’s responsibility for his actions as well as Jackson’s is limited, the family lost. The billion-dollar wrongful death lawsuit alleged that the company negligently hired Dr. Murray and pushed the King of Pop too hard prior to his “This Is It” tour. AEG claimed Jackson hand-picked Murray and what went on between the music legend and his personal physician was between the two of them and that’s it. The jury foreman explained that Murray was competent to do the job for which he was hired – be a general practitioner to Jackson prior to the tour. Jurors felt that Murray had gone to a good school and was qualified, and that there was no reason AEG wouldn’t have signed off on it at the time. The juror added after the verdict, “That doesn’t mean we felt he was ethical. Had that question been in there, it could have been a different outcome.” Essentially, that trial took place two years ago, and Murray was convicted. As far as holding AEG liable for the same thing, the jury wouldn’t go there. Case closed. What do you think: Was justice served?   Yes. What happened is all on MJ and/or Dr. Murray. No. AEG knew about Murray and pushed MJ too hard! View Poll »

Elton John Likens Miley Cyrus to Michael Jackson, Labels Singer "Meltdown Waiting to Happen"

Miley Cyrus may be worried about Liam Hemsworth cheating on her, but Elton John is worried about something even more pressing: This singer’s life. Talking to The Australian about this Twerking Wrecking Ball rider, the legendary artist offered a few words of warning for Cyrus: “I see a meltdown waiting to happen,And she’s so young! But she’s got two records in the top 20, so who is going to stop her?” Certainly not Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who reacted to his daughter’s controversial Wrecking Ball video by simply gushing over her ” God given talent .” Saying he can “spot a car crash before it happens,” John told the newspaper that he knew Michael Jackson was going to die because he’s “been doing drugs for so long” and he worries that Miley is headed down a similar path. Heck, the same can sort of be said for Lady Gaga. “With Gaga – who I love, she’s the godmother to our children – I’d like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can’t get through to her,” Elton said. “And there are times when you have to listen. When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place. Once you have people around you who don’t question you, you’re in a dangerous place.” Have Miley and the Lady entered this place? Will there candles burn out long before they should? Let’s hope not.
