Janet Jackson Says Kevin Garnett Was Tryin’ To Smash Back In The Day… Talks Nicki Minaj Wardrobe Malfunction

Damn… KG couldn’t get no love and JD got to hit that? Janet Jackson is making her way to Minneapolis Friday as part of her “No. Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour” (her first tour since Michael’s death) and the singer spoke candidly with their local Star Tribune about a plethora of interesting topics, including how former Minnesota Timberwolves player Kevin Garnett tried to get a piece and her thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s recent “wardrobe malfunction.” Check out the excerpts below: Janet Jackson knows her way around the Twin Cities, since she recorded most of her hits here with producer/songwriters Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. However, she hasn’t been here lately; Jam and Lewis moved to Los Angeles several years ago and she hasn’t worked with them since her “20 Y.O.” album in 2006. Jackson, 45, agreed to answer some questions via email. Her answers were short and sweet, punctuated with emoticons. She didn’t give direct or in-depth responses about such controversies as her lip-syncing in concert and her infamous 2004 Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction but she did address them. Q: What will it be like to perform all your hits in Minneapolis, where so many were written and recorded? A: It is going to be fun for me! I can’t wait to get back to Minneapolis and see all my fans there. Q: What’s your favorite memory of Minneapolis? A: I have so many, but being in Minneapolis to record “Control” stands out. It was the first time I was recording a CD without my family. It was a great. Q: I heard some guys stalked you by your hotel when you were recording “Control” in 1985. What’s that story? A: “Nasty” is the story for that question. That song came out of that experience. Q: What did Kevin Garnett say to you later after you brought him onstage at Target Center for the seductive “Rope Burn” in 1998? A: Kevin Garnett wanted to hook up. :0) Q: What do you like most about this tour? The least? A: I am having so much fun on this tour. It is the largest ever world tour for me. Whenever possible, I am choosing more intimate venues. I love being able to see everyone’s face in the audience. Q: What is it like to perform “Scream” without your brother Michael? A: It is amazing. It’s very therapeutic. The energy of the song is fierce but it makes me smile inside when I hear him, when I hear his voice. Q: What goes through your mind onstage on this tour vs. what went through your mind onstage during your arena tours? A: All I can think about during the show is how much fun I am having and how grateful I am to all the fans who have supported me all these years. Q: Why do you end the show with “Together Again”? A: I love what the song says… I am letting the audience know that we will be together again… hopefully soon! Q: Over the years, some people have said that Janet lip-syncs in concert. What’s the situation on this tour? Is all your singing live? A: Yes, I am singing live. WOW… 1998??? They went all the way there with it. Glad Janet got a chance to clear up the lip synchin rumors though. Keep reading for more…

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson Singles Record

‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ marks Perry’s fifth #1 single from Teenage Dream, equal only to MJ’s Bad achievement. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Back in June, Katy Perry was closing in on Michael Jackson ‘s record for the most #1 singles from the same album — and now she’s tied it up. Thanks to the feel-good party jam “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” Perry has the same number of #1 singles from Teenage Dream on the Hot 100 as the late King of Pop did from 1987’s Bad. Now, Perry is both the only woman with five #1 singles from the same album and also the only living artist with that record. So what singles got her there aside from “Last Friday Night”? Perry’s previous #1’s from Teenage Dream are “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework” and “E.T.” Jackson achieved this feat back in 1987 and 1988 with “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana” from his Bad album. “What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song ‘LAST FRIDAY NIGHT’ is officially #1 & made HISTORY!” the singer tweeted Wednesday (August 17). “&u know, I couldn’t have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG… so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu.” Explore our “Katy Perry: By The Numbers” infographic: Perry broke another singles record earlier this month, having the first album from the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart to have five #1 singles. Perry’s Teenage Dream album is the first in the nearly 19-year history of the chart to accomplish that feat. “Last Friday Night” has proven to be another successful track for the star, and the party anthem recently got an assist from Missy Elliott on the remix . Perry’s Teenage Dream videos have also been cultural smashes. For the 2011 Video Music Awards , Perry racked up the most nominations with nine, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for “Firework”; Best Pop Video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed “E.T.,” which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy “Teenage Dream” clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography. What’s your favorite Teenage Dream single? Let us know in the comments below! The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Michael Jackson Estate Threatens Legal Action Over Tribute Concert

‘Michael Forever’ concert rescinds invitation for Kiss to perform following complaints from estate and fans. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson in the video for “Hold My Hand” Photo: Sony Music Entertainment Several weeks after announcing their intention to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson with an all-star concert called “Michael Jackson Forever,” the initial lineup for the October 8 show at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, was revealed last week. According to promoters, the Michael Forever show is slated to feature such stars as Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Motown legend Smokey Robinson, in addition to less globally popular talents, including Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Leona Lewis, JLS, Craig David, Alien Ant Farm and a pair of Jackson-related groups, 3T and the Jackson Brothers. The one thing the event does not have, however, is the approval of Jackson’s powerful estate, which had kept silent about the show put together by parents Joseph and Katherine Jackson, along with siblings Jackie, Tito, Marlon, LaToya and Rebbie. Brothers Jermaine and Randy have not been involved in the plans and have publicly objected to the event because it falls in the middle of the involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray. On Tuesday (August 16) a spokesperson for the estate — which has handled all of Jackson’s affairs since his 2009 death — confirmed that estate lawyer Howard Weitzman sent a letter to concert organizers last week raising some pointed questions about the show. “I represent the Executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson. As the legal caretakers of Michael’s intellectual property, we believe it is our duty to contact you directly regarding the growing number of questions that have been addressed to the Estate, as well as multiple concerns that have emerged in recent days,” reads the letter. After reminding organizers that the estate is the only entity that can sign off on the use of Jackson’s image or his intellectual property — the concert’s website is careful not to feature any images of the singer or samples of his music — the letter said the estate was “especially disappointed” by the announcement on Monday that greasepaint rockers Kiss have been added to the bill. Specifically, the beef was that outspoken Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has made a number of disparaging comments about Jackson in the past. “It was extraordinarily embarrassing when no sooner had you announced this ‘news’ that [Simmons] would participate in your concert that TMZ posted an item noting that Mr. Simmons called Michael Jackson … a child molester, notwithstanding the fact that Michael was acquitted by a jury,” read the letter. Jackson fansite MJ4Justice was flooded with negative comments about the addition of Kiss, announced on Monday by Katherine Jackson on CNN, and has called for a boycott of the show. The concert’s Facebook page has also been inundated with concerns over the booking of Kiss. And the complaints worked. On Tuesday, the concert’s promoter, Global Live Events, canceled Kiss’ “invitation” to appear in the show. “We have listened to Michael’s fans and are grateful to have been alerted to these unfortunate statements by Gene Simmons,” CEO Chris Hunt said in a statement. “Under the circumstances we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert. We offer our sincerest apologies to Mrs. Jackson and the family for this oversight — our primary concern must be to do justice to Michael’s memory, and to put on a tribute that the family and the fans will find suitable and fit for a King, our

Report: Brad Pitt "Blowing Off," Hardly Speaking With Angelina Jolie

On August 6, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie celebrated their son Maddox’s 10th birthday. But there wasn’t much celebrating to be had between them. The Jolie-Pitts sat in the orchestra section and reserved extra seats for privacy to see the hit musical Wicked at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre. Lucky for the other patrons that they did so. Why? A source at the theater tells OK! (yeah, we know): “Maddox looked so uncomfortable after about 20 minutes and tried to get his parents’ attention – while his sister Shiloh was scared and crying.” “Brad and Angelina turned very tense the whole time. They hardly spoke, and as soon as the show was over, they went their separate ways.” That about sums up Brangelina these days. The wedding buzz may swirl around the couple, but they’ve been leading separate lives in London as Brad films his zombie thriller, World War Z . When he’s not filming, sources say he spends off-hours with pals, in particular a mysterious young assistant who we’ve reported on before. “Angelina is seething!” the insider says. “When she rearranged her schedule and flew to London to be with Brad, she imagined they’d be having romantic dinners and hanging out together on the set, and he’s basically blowing her off.” In Angie’s view, Brad is basically a bad boyfriend. “They had plans; then he’s left her hanging at the last minute,” the source says of the pair. “For instance, they were supposed to go to this French restaurant.” “Angie got all dressed up. Then he called and canceled.” [Photo: Fame Pictures]

Ryan Tedder on Demi Lovato: Akin to Kelly Clarkson!

Demi Lovato isn’t saying much about her upcoming album, which will be released on September 20 . But Timbaland has revealed he’s worked with the artist on at least one track, while OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder says he collaborated with Lovato on the single “Who’s That?” and “Demi blew me out of the water vocally!” Is Demi Lovato the next Kelly Clarkson? Yes, swears Ryan Tedder. Added Tedder, gushing: “I had no idea how good her voice is. She’s one of the best singers I’ve ever worked with. Literally, that good… I mean, she’s a Kelly Clarkson-level vocalist. And Kelly has a set of pipes.” What can we expect from this tune? Nothing like the ballad that is “Skyscraper,” Tedder tells E! News: “I think everybody wanted to hear her talk about that, and this is basically flipping it 180, saying, ‘Oh, by the way, I’m still also just young and want to have fun.’ There’s even like a little rap feature on it.” Is Lovato the one rapping? No, says Tedder, but he won’t reveal the man who is. [Photos: WENN.com]

Michael Jackson Estate Criticizes, Raises Doubts About Tribute Concert

If you’re confused as to how Michael Jackson’s Estate and his own family members can be fighting over a concert honoring his legacy … welcome to the unending saga of Michael Jackson, bizarre even after his death. The honchos in charge of the late singer’s estate are threatening the people behind the Michael Jackson Tribute concert, claiming the promoters are tarnishing Michael’s legacy and are possibly even ripping him off. Howard Weitzman, lawyer for the Estate, fired off a letter to promoters of the concert – set for October 8 in Wales – expressing displeasure about many things. Chief among them? That KISS and Gene Simmons will be performing . As we know, Gene publicly accused MJ of being a child molester, a fact not lost on Weitzman, who writes in his letter to those in charge of the show: “It was extraordinarily embarrassing when no sooner than you announced this ‘news’ that he would participate that TMZ posted an item noting Mr. Simmons had called Michael Jackson – the man you are purportedly honoring – a child molester.” Weitzman also questions where the proceeds will be going. Michael’s father, Joe Jackson, and Leonard Rowe are behind the concert, and suffice it to say, they’ve always been quick to cash in on MJ’s name. Weitzman suggests promoters may be running afoul of the law using “intellectual property controlled by the Estate” – MJ images and his songs. A number of big name stars, such as Christina Aguilera, are set to perform at the show, while Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket will attend. We’ll see if it even takes place at this rate.

Dr. Conrad Murray Defense May Subpoena Nine Other Michael Jackson Doctors

Dr. Conrad Murray ‘s defense team has nine former doctors of Michael Jackson on its witness list for Murray’s upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial. Among the doctors on the list is Dr. Arnold Klein , Jackson’s dermatologist and friend whose treatment of the star has long been subject to scrutiny. The last also includes Dr. Neil Ratner, who toured with Jackson in 1996 and 1997, and Dr. David Adams of Las Vegas, Nev., both anesthesiologists. Ratner confirmed that Michael Jackson suffered from a sleep disorder, but wouldn’t elaborate further. It’s anticipated that Murray’s lawyers, Ed Chernoff and Michael Flanagan, will grill Ratner about the specifics of his medical treatment. In all, Dr. Murray’s lawyers list 103 people who could be called at the trial, including a nurse practitioner, Cherilyn Lee, who claims Jackson asked her for Propofol in the weeks leading up to his death, but she refused to supply it. Lee, a nurse practitioner and nutritionist who worked for Jackson, claimed in the days after his sudden death that he had asked her for Propofol in April 2009, was served with a subpoena to testify at the trial by Murray’s defense. “Cherilyn is prepared to testify at the trial and tell the truth. Cherilyn has never spoken with anyone from the District Attorney’s office,” a source said . “She was interviewed in the weeks after Jackson’s death by the coroner and the LAPD. Cherilyn hasn’t heard from those agencies since that time.” Jury selection in the criminal trial against Dr. Conrad Murray begins on September 8, 2011, and is anticipated to take several weeks to select a jury. Opening arguments are slated for the last week of September. The trial could last until Thanksgiving, with Murray facing up to four years in prison. Despite the long witness list, Murray is the only doctor of Jackson’s who has been criminally charged in connection with the King of Pop’s death. Thoughts? Dr. Conrad Murray …

Gene Simmons, Kiss to Perform at Michael Jackson Tribute Show

Gene Simmons and KISS will be performing at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in October, according to the late star’s mother, Katherine Jackson. This is quite ironic, given Gene’s comments about Michael. Simmons went on record, after Jackson died no less, to say that “There is no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt.” Simmons went on to say, “The only sexual references ever made about Michael Jackson that were made by anyone, anywhere in the world, have always been made by children, and specifically males usually 10 to 14 years of age.” “Never females, that age or older, and never grown men.” Um, yeah. Maybe he’s letting bygones be bygones now? In other news, Gene proposed to Shannon Tweed !!!! [Photos: Fame Pictures, WENN.com]
