‘Motivation’ singer says she admires ‘artists like Chris Brown and Rihanna, who don’t mind putting it all on their album.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kelly Rowland Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic Kelly Rowland is proudly declaring Here I Am on her new album, which dropped Tuesday (July 26). And while she’s always been a soulful R&B diva, the past few years, she’s carved out a place for herself among the dancing queens of the world. And, she said, there’s room for both of those characters on this latest release. “The personalities aren’t really different,” she explained to MTV News. “I think what I’ve grown to know about my voice is, just having a voice, period, as a woman, you mean business, period — whether that’s making people dance or that’s making people feel in an emotional way or whatever it might be when it comes to R&B. “I think that R&B, of course, is where I’m deeply rooted, period,” she continued. “I’ll never go anywhere. I just happened to try something out [dance], and it worked, and that’s just the part of it. And I think that’s what I admire about artists like Chris Brown and Rihanna, who don’t mind putting it all on their album. Who cares? It’s music, and they’re making it: great music. And I’m proud of that, that we do have a generation that is just making great music, period.” With features from the likes of “Motivation” collaborator Lil Wayne , Big Sean and Rico Love, to name a few, Rowland also got production help from heavy hitters such as Tricky Stewart, Jim Jonsin, David Guetta, RedOne and Rodney Jerkins. “Above anything, I got to work with creative people. We were in the same pocket sonically,” she explained. “And I got the chance to go back in with Rodney Jerkins, and we were just in a pocket together that … blew me away, period. And with Red[One] too, everybody. It was so much fun. I’m so happy with the project.” This album, for Rowland, was a balance of working with a new crop of producers and a familiar set of people. That combination helped her shape the many sides of herself. “Red didn’t meet me, but he was like, ‘I don’t think you are singing at your full capacity,’ ” she recalled. “We got into the studio, and when we finished the two records that we did together, I just looked at him and was like, ‘You get it?’ He gets it. “And Rodney’s been knowing me since I was 17 years old,” she continued. “Rodney comes into the studio, and he’s like, ‘Wait a minute: What’s happening [with your voice]?’ It’s really interesting how the two are not that far off, but they’re both great ears.” Share your review of Kelly Rowland’s new album in the comments below. Lineup for October show in Cardiff, Wales, will be revealed August 3. Photo: AFP/Getty Images Michael Jackson ‘s family has announced a tribute concert to the late King of Pop that is slated to take place on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales. The four-hour show at the 75,000-capacity Millennium Stadium will be broadcast via satellite on pay-per-view and into movie theaters with a cast of big-name performers whose identities have not yet been revealed. At the Beverly Hills press conference on Monday revealing the details of the “Michael Forever” show, Jackson family matriarch Katherine was joined by sons Tito, Jackie and Marlon and daughter LaToya; siblings Jermaine, Randy, Janet and estranged husband Joe were not in attendance. “When I was told some of the names of the artists performing, I knew it would be fit for a king. If my son was here today he would feel the same way, and so I’d like to say thank you very much for helping to keep my son’s legacy alive,” Katherine Jackson said of Michael, who died in June 2009 of a heart attack caused by a prescription drug overdose. According to Wales Online , the show will feature artists Jackson admired and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the start of his solo career. “I will be there along with as many members of my family that can make it,” Katherine said. “It is intended to be the biggest and best concert in the world for many years to come.” Sister LaToya added, “This event is far, far overdue. He was an entertainer who I feel no one can ever stand up to or hold a candle to as far as his talent is concerned. This tribute will be something spectacular and I know that he would approve.” One of the show’s producers said that despite taking place in a large stadium, the building’s roof will be closed to create a more intimate atmosphere. Proceeds from the show will benefit three charities Jackson supported: the Prince’s Trust, AIDS Project Los Angeles and a cancer charity. The show’s lineup will be announced on August 3. As with many things related to MJ’s legacy, there was controversy, as brothers Randy and Jermaine said they thought the timing of the show was inappropriate. In a statement, the two said, “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death. As everyone knows, those proceedings commence September 20.” That date is when Jackson’s former doctor, Conrad Murray , is slated to go on trial for manslaughter charges in the singer’s death. Jermaine attempted to put on a tribute concert to his late brother in September 2009, but the show fell apart after many of the top acts were unable to commit to the event. When he’s not throwing parties with Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer in his “Give Me Everything” video, Pit is busy helping Marc Anthony find his groove in the sexy, sleek new “Rain Over Me” video. The single “Rain Over Me” is off the rapper’s Planet Pit album, which dropped earlier this summer. In the clip, VMA-nominated Pitbull and newly separated Marc Anthony take the party to the only place where it doesn’t rain — the desert. So, sure it doesn’t rain in the desert, but well-tailored suits and pretty ladies (and some product placement) are aplenty in the barren setting. While the guys hang outside in the sweltering heat amid a shack-style location, a group of ladies swim around in a pool elsewhere trying to keep cool as the song’s hot beats play in the background. The conclusion seems to be that if you party hard enough in the desert — and look cool while doing it — you can eventually make it rain. The duo not enjoy the company of beautiful ladies, they eventually find themselves drenched. And there’s really no better way to cool off after all that time in the sun. “Rain Over Me” is just the latest summer jam from the Miami rapper. He recently spoke to MTV News about what makes the perfect summer tune. “People need to escape from everything that’s going on. And … if they’re going to spend the last $20 they made — and they only made $50 for the week — they want to spend it having a good time, not running into drama,” he said. “So I’m more than blessed to be a part of this summer and the great music out there.” And “Rain Over Me” isn’t the first time Pitbull has collaborated with someone in the former Lopez-Anthony household. Perry leads this year’s field , as well she should, given that her clips for such hits as “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework” and “E.T.” have become modern classics and racked up millions of online views. Dr. Conrad Murray’s lawyers saw what happened to Casey Anthony . The doctor’s legal team told the trial judge they don’t want Nancy Grace to influence the jury – not that it worked in Anthony’s case, with Grace eviscerating her daily – so they asked the judge to prohibit jurors from watching. Why anyone would want to anyway is beyond us, but fair point. Dr. Conrad Murray is free on bail as he awaits trial . Attorney Michael Flanagan argued it’s impractical to tell jurors they can’t watch TV – because they simply will anyway – so he wants them sequestered. We’re talking full-on O.J. style. The idea that Murray, who’s charged with involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of Michael Jackson, can’t receive a fair trial because of Nancy Grace is dubious, but the case will receive inordinate media scrutiny. The judge told Flanagan to file a motion and he’d consider it, though the judge did say he thought sequestering was unnecessary and too expensive. Flanagan also pressed his claim for outtakes for the final Michael Jackson rehearsal footage – which Sony won’t give up – in an attempt to prove MJ was on drugs, weak, beyond repair, a lost cause, etc., etc., etc. In a telling comment, Judge Michael Pastor did not seem compelled, saying, “This case is going to focus on the charge, not personal lifestyle.”
Two members of the paparazzi were handcuffed by the cops after allegedly blowing through red lights while chasing Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris. TMZ says the photographers ( not TMZ or THG staff members) were allegedly chasing a car Paris was in, blowing red lights and driving recklessly. No arrests have been made because police didn’t see the chase take place. There will not even be any citations given, for exactly the same reason. Still, the paps were thwarted and beat it. Paris, the middle child of Michael’s three, in a photo taken last month . No word if Prince Michael and Blanket were also with her. A crime report will be written and forwarded to the L.A. City Attorney for possible prosecution, so that’s something. We’re just glad Paris is okay.

Gomez has jumped past her boyfriend to claim the number-one spot on Billboard’s Social 50 list, a ranking that considers the “most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites… using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays,” according to the company behind it. The Black Eyed Peas are set to take them successful careers into a new realm, with a new video game coming soon for Xbox 360 and Wii. The Black Eyed Peas Experience game, created by the makers of Just Dance and Michael Jackson: The Experience video games, will allow BEP fans to dance along to the group’s greatest hits, with new dance routines choreographed by the band’s creative director Fatima Robinson.
