Michael Sheen on His Latest TIFF Premiere, the Art of Preparation and Breaking Dawn Limbo

Another year of TIFF almost always means another year featuring Michael Sheen, and 2010 is no different. Though the subject most definitely is: The Welsh stage and screen veteran arrives this week with the world premiere of Beautiful Boy , featuring Sheen opposite Maria Bello as a dissolving married couple who must relearn how to live with each other after their son goes on a mass murder-suicide gun rampage at his college. Writer-director Shawn Ku’s debut feature goes a few places you might expect and a lot more you probably wouldn’t; Sheen spoke about the film, his role, his diligence at character “fusion,” and intriguing news about his future (or possible lack thereof) with the Twilight franchise.

Joss Whedon is Already Writing Deleted Scenes for The Avengers

Hey Joss Whedon, how’s that Avengers film coming along? “Right now I’m working on a movie that’s got enormous stipulations and is going to be changing and fluid every second,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald . “I’ve come up with dozens of scenes and lines and exchanges and monologues that I adore.” One problem, though: You’ll never see them, because Whedon still hasn’t moved beyond brainstorming. “But while I’m writing them they feed me, excite me and they ultimately inform the character,” he said. “It all goes in.” [ Sydney Morning Herald via Slashfilm ]

‘Abduction’ Adds Maria Bello, Jason Isaacs To Cast

Taylor Lautner-starring flick starts shooting in July. By Adam Rosenberg Maria Bello Photo: MTV News If you’re going to be abducted and raised by a new set of parents, you could certainly do a lot worse than Maria Bello and Jason Isaacs. The duo have been cast as the not-parents of Taylor Lautner in the John Singleton-directed thriller “Abduction,” according to Deadline New York . The story follows Lautner’s character as he sets out to learn who he really is after he finds his baby picture posted on a missing-persons website. The newly hired actors join an already-sizable cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, Alfred Molina, Lily Collins, Denzel Whitaker, Michael Nyqvist and, of course, “Twilight” heartthrob Lautner . With these last major roles squared away, production on the film is set to begin on July 12 in Pittsburgh. Bello is one of the stars in the ensemble comedy “Grown Ups,” out June 25, which features Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph. She’ll also star with “New Moon” vampire Michael Sheen in “Beautiful Boy,” which has an unspecified 2010 release. Isaacs, who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the villainous Lucius Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” series, will star in the new Fox legal drama “Pleading Guilty” this fall. He and the rest of the “Potter” cast just wrapped production on the two-part series closer, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Those movies hit theaters on November 19, 2010, and July 15, 2011. Lautner will shoot “Abduction” before joining his fellow “Twilight” cast members in the fall for filming on “Breaking Dawn,” which like “Deathly Hallows,” will be released in two parts. “Eclipse,” the third movie in Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance series, arrives in theaters on June 30.
