Joe Jackson Says Parents Today Are Too ‘Soft’ On Their Kids The late Michael Jackson often documented his strained relationship with his father Joe and blamed much of their dysfunctional father-son bond on the fact that papa Joe was quick to the put them paws on Michael and the rest of his brothers frequently back in the day. Joe has always stood by his claims that it was his rear end rearing that turned MJ into the superstar that he became, and now he’s even saying that today’s parents could learn a thing or two from the way that he raised his clan. via The Grio Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the infamous Jackson family of performers, argued that parents today are too “soft” when it comes to disciplining their kids, on a recent episode of CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight. “Yeah, they are too soft. One of the reasons I say that is because kids nowadays are killing their parents in some cases,” Jackson said. “Let’s get into this ‘beating’ thing. There’s no such thing as ‘beating a kid.’ You whip them or punish them over something they did, and they will remember that. And they’ll remember it in such a way that they won’t do it again. That’s the way I was.” Jackson has been accused of beating and physically abusing his children in the past, most notably by the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. His father admitted spanking his son but always denied that he crossed the line. “I whipped him with a switch and a belt…I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick,” Joe Jackson told the BBC in 2003. From what we know of the story, most would agree that papa Joe went overboard with the beatings when it came to his kids, but does he have a point about today’s parents lacking the gut to discipline their kids altogether?
Michael Buble and Luisana Lopilato are expecting their first child. The crooner’s pregnant wife, an Argentine actress, is now the envy of every woman ever. When you’ve worked your butt off, then tell me.” Guess that point was pretty soon. “All my friends have babies so every time one of them says, ‘Guess what, you’re going to be an uncle,’ part of me is so happy for them and the other part of me is jealous.” Not for much longer. But now, Michael insists he was misquoted. LiLo’s estranged dad says : “By absolutely NO MEANS did I ever make such a statement … EVER!” “Sure, Lindsay and [other celebs] make personal appearances and get paid for it! Worst. Negotiators. Ever. Donald Trump is slamming the GOP over the fiscal cliff deal that lawmakers reached in the last 48 hours, saying Republicans “may be the worst negotiators in history.” The real estate mogul’s harsh words concerned the last-minute compromise reached by V.P. Joe Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). The U.S. Senate passed legislation to avert the fiscal cliff – a series of tax increases and budget cuts set to take place January 1 – on New Year’s Eve. The U.S. House passed the bill less than 24 hours later, despite the objections of about 150 Republican members who felt their side gave away too much. Trump, a Republican who’s not shy about criticizing Democrats or President Barack Obama, said “Republicans got nothing” in the fiscal cliff deal. Is that really accurate, though? Under the new agreement: Taxes will rise only for individuals making over $400,000 and couples making over $450,000, with the top rate increasing from 35 to 39.6%. Itemized deductions would be capped for those making $250,000 ($300,000 for couples). Taxes on inherited estates will go up to 40 percent from 35 percent. Capital gains tax rates will increase from 15 to 20 percent. Unemployment insurance would be extended for a year for 2 million people. The alternative minimum tax will be adjusted for inflation. While the first tax increases in many years are significant, the rates and tiers are under the threshold sought by President Obama in nearly all cases. With the support of the public and Congress, GOP leverage was minimized; also, there are further, more significant negotiations on the horizon. The deal does not address the federal spending cuts now set to take effect March 1, nor the long-range entitlement reform debate raging in Congress. Also, the delay was likely caused at least in part by House Speaker John Boehner’s effort to appease the conservative wing of his party and keep his job. All of this logic seems to be lost on the Donald … not that we’re surprised.
It’s a new year and a new status for Michael Phelps: the most decorated Olympian in history is now single. According to TMZ, Phelps recently ended his relationship with Megan Rossee because he wanted to “pursue other options.” And how is the model taking this news? Not especially well. On Monday, Rossee Tweeted a photo of the following saying: “A woman’s loyalty is tested when her man has nothing. A man’s loyalty is tested when he has everything.” She then posted a photo of her New Year’s Eve celebration and included with it the caption: “The love of my life is the love between friends. Happy New Year! #truelove #bffs.” Phelps, meanwhile, seems to be taking everything in stride. It helps when you: Possesses an 8-pack. Have won 22 Olympic medals.
