Now that nearly every action or comic-book movie wants to be as big, loud and spectacular as a Michael Bay movie, there’s something refreshingly straightforward — homespun, even — about an actual Michael Bay movie like Transformers: Dark of the Moon . The picture wears its ambitions on its whirring, rumbling, clanking, heavily CGI’ ed sleeve, and it pretends to be nothing more than it is: a honking, 40-karat piece of entertainment that will cost you dearly if you take your family to see it in the theaters, especially when you factor in that 3-D surcharge. Yet Dark of the Moon , the third installment in the unkillable Transformers franchise, shouldn’t be seen any other way. Bay doesn’t care about your soul, he just wants your money — but he at least makes sure you go home feeling exhausted and spent rather than vaguely dissatisfied. It’s a fair exchange.

Dr. Conrad Murray is reportedly adamant that he will not accept a plea bargain of any sort in the Michael Jackson involuntary manslaughter case. Sources say Dr. Murray feels so strongly about his innocence that even a plea offering zero jail time would be out of the question on principle. Not that the L.A. County District Attorney is bending over backwards to offer such a thing. Prosecutors believe they can and will win the case. Dr. Murray’s defense revolves around the fact that only two people were in the room around the time Michael died, those being Murray and Jackson. The doctor insists he did not administer the fatal dose of Propofol. His lawyers’ theory: Murray left to go to the bathroom, a frustrated MJ woke up, administered Propofol on his own, overdosed and killed himself . As for why he was providing Propofol to start with, Murray hopes MJ’s last rehearsal footage will show “warning signs” that he was a lost cause. Michael Jackson passed away two years ago today. A week after claiming a hacker had posted a lewd photo to his Twitter account, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner on Monday apologized for lying about the ordeal and admitted carrying on inappropriate relationships with several women he’d met online. Weiner, a New York Democrat, said he is not resigning his seat, nor is he planning on separating from his wife. But he said he took responsibility for his actions — both the relationships and for lying about sending the photo of his bulging underwear on his Twitter account. “To be clear, the picture was of me, and I sent it. I’m deeply sorry for the pain this has caused my wife, and our family, my constituents, my friends, my supporters and my staff,” he said, claiming he’d posted the Twitter photo accidentally as a “joke” and then “panicked.” “I lied because I was ashamed at what I had done, and I didn’t want to get caught.” Weiner described his actions as “dumb,” “destructive” and “deeply, deeply hurtful” — both for his admitted cover-up and for carrying on relationships with six women he’d met online, mostly via Facebook. The congressman claimed that he never met any of these women in person, and that his wife Huma only learned he’d been lying about the Twitter picture on Monday morning. “I have made terrible mistakes,” Weiner told reporters. “I have not been honest with myself or my family … I should not have done this, and I should not have done this particularly when I was married.” Weiner claimed he does not believe he used any government resources while sending various photos and otherwise having inappropriate relationships with the women. Details about the hotly anticipated Cirque Du Soleil show based around the music of the late Michael Jackson were recently announced. Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour is expected to open at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in 2013. The $200 million show will feature unreleased music finished by Jackson before his death in 2009 as well as unreleased footage from the rehearsals of his aborted This Is It tour. The first ever official Michael Jackson Fan Fest will also be part of the show experience and will include re-creations of some of Jackson’s most memorable music video sets. The $59 million touring version of the show will hit countries across the globe. “It will be the biggest touring show ever because of all the dancers, musicians and acrobats,” Jamie King, writer and director of Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour , tells the Las Vegas Sun . “The demand for the touring show is phenomenal — more than any other time in Cirque history,” Cirque du Soleil CEO Daniel Lamarre tells the Sun. “We have promoters across the world trying to book the show. We have to hire engineers to ensure the roof structures are strong enough to support our stages and equipment rigging. We see America and the rest of the world running for five years and conceivably even longer than that in the first go round.” A Michael Jackson “ultra-lounge” will also open at Mandalay Bay, as well as an interactive museum that recreates Jackson’s famed Neverland Ranch. “I cannot imagine this residency show ever closing. It will last forever,” Lamarre said. “Yes, we have a five-year plus five-year plus five-year deal as with all of our Vegas contracts, but in the tradition of Cirque, our shows last forever.” The Vegas residency is slated to open on December 3rd and will continue for 33 performances. The show will premiere in Cirque du Soleil’s home turf of Montreal.
