First Lady Michelle Obama graced the stage tonight with a history-making speech that was filled with passion, determination, and most importantly, that human connection none of us felt last week when the Republicans had their turn. She spoke up for our children, all Women and their rights to equal pay and to make decisions for their bodies, and what it’s really like to be an American with convictions and heart. With such stories, the first lady sought to counter Republicans trying to paint Obama as something other than a typical American, and implied that it was Romney who couldn’t relate to people trying to get by in tough economic times. “In the end, for Barack, these issues aren’t political. They’re personal,” she said. “I’m going to try to not let them see their daddy cry because when Michelle starts talking, I start getting all misty,” Obama said at rally earlier Tuesday in Norfolk, Va. With a mix of personal anecdotes and policy talk, Mrs. Obama’s speech was by far her most political yet. “Today, after so many struggles and triumphs and moments that have tested my husband in ways I never could have imagined, I have seen firsthand that being president doesn’t change who you are – it reveals who you are,” she said. To that send, the first lady painted a portrait of a leader who knows first-hand the struggles of everyday Americans, who listens to them as president, and who pushes an agenda with their interests in mind. “That’s the man I see in those quiet moments late at night, hunched over his desk, poring over the letters people have sent him,” she said. “I see the concern in his eyes … and I hear the determination in his voice as he tells me, `You won’t believe what these folks are going through, Michelle . it’s not right. We’ve got to keep working to fix this. Forbes released its annual 100 Most Powerful Women list, and of course, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé made the cut. These talented women came in at seven, 11 and 32, respectively. The list also named some very important women who don’t always get the proper spotlight — like CEO of Xerox Ursula Burns, who came in at 17, CEO of the Humanitarian Organization (CARE) Helene Gayle at 52, Executive Director of the United Nation’s World Food Programme Ertharin Cousin at 69, Malawian President Joyce Banda at 71, Nigerian Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonko-Iweala at 81 and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at 82. The list also saw rankings from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Jennifer Lopez and Diane Von Furstenberg. German Chancellor Angela Merkel was named the most powerful woman in the world for the second year in a row. She’s known as the “Iron Lady” and is as a key player in rebuilding Europe’s failing economic structure. Kudos to all the ladies who make a tremendous difference in our world. On the heels of accusations that Smart is either gay or a big fan of exotic massage parlors, insiders tell People that the former American Idol judge thinks things have moved too quickly between the couple. “She’s getting frustrated with him,” an insider said of J. Lo , adding that the singer is increasingly “short-tempered when she’s around him.” Still, on a professional basis, Lopez and Smart may be stuck together. He is choreographing her summer tour and starring in a reality show later this year that revolves around their working relationship. The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama turns 51 today. We’re guessing he could use a vacation, but that it’s not an option. Between grappling with a stagnant economy and unemployment rate, widespread global instability and a climate that is very much in flux, there’s the small matter of running for re-election in November of this turbulent year. Simply put, he’s in the fight of his life. Can Barack get it done!? Recent polls have Obama and Republican Mitt Romney in a tight race for the presidency. Win or lose, this one’s going down to the wire this fall. Whichever side of the political spectrum you’re on, you have to admit that the man’s got a tough job. The bond between Beyonce and Michelle Obama just grew a little stronger. In May, the First Lady took her daughters to a Knowles concert , a night out that followed a Tumblr post by Beyonce that praised Obama as “ULTIMATE example of a strong African-American woman.” Obama, in turn, responded to the praise with a Tweet that read: “Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to.” Now, Beyonce has made that letter even more public, posting a video reading of it that serves as a campaign ad for Michelle’s husband, given the donation link at the end.
