‘She should be looking for more positive publicity,’ one fan tells MTV News. It was reported Tuesday that the controversial MC might be responsible for any FCC fines incurred because of her middle finger. But who should be held responsible? And why did she do it in the first place? MTV News ventured to Times Square — where the New York Giants’ Super Bowl victory was celebrated earlier in the day with a parade — to see what people thought of M.I.A.’s flip decision. “It was not good for her, because she’s still a young and up-and-coming artist, so she should be looking for more positive publicity,” Valon Jaloshey, 22, told MTV News. “That’s not the way to get it when you’re giving the middle finger at the biggest performance of your life.” Maureen Kelley, 26, wasn’t surprised by the artist’s action but thinks her timing was inappropriate. “It’s definitely very M.I.A. to have done that,” Kelley said. “She probably shouldn’t have done it at the Super Bowl.” Kelley does have some advice for dealing with a potential fine: “Maybe she could just pretend that she was wiggling her fingers, I don’t know.” M.I.A.’s fellow halftime performer Cee Lo Green , meanwhile, exclusively told MTV News late Monday that he knew nothing about the flip-off until the game was long over. “Honestly, I did not hear anything about it,” he said. “There was no talk about it in the dressing room afterwards and we didn’t stay long after the performance, because it was honestly a relief we had had it done. Rodriguez/ Getty Images With the New York Giants down 10-9 to the New England Patriots at halftime of the big game on Sunday, we’re pretty sure coach Tom Coughlin gave the eventual Super Bowl champions a hell of a speech. Still, last night’s most memorable pep talk came from an unlikely hero, Clint Eastwood. “It’s halftime,” Dirty Harry grunted in the opening moments of a dramatic Chrysler spot that aired while both teams were in the locker room and Madonna was preparing to excite the world at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, Indiana. The emotional ad juxtaposed the Giants and Patriots’ mid-game huddle-up and contextualized it against the country’s current economic woes. “It’s halftime in America, too,” the Oscar-winning actor/director continued. “People are out of work and they’re hurting and they’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback.” During a night when Hollywood rolled out blockbuster trailers for big-budget films like “The Avengers” and “Battleship” and companies like Go Daddy and H&M used sex to sell their products, Chrysler took an inspirational approach, one even more poignant than last year’s Eminem “Imported From Detroit” spot. Clint goes on to describe the people in Detroit and their resilience in the midst of a collapsed auto industry. He then turns the focus back to America as a whole, which is still trying to gain footing in a time of economic turmoil. “I’ve seen a lot of tough eras, a lot of downturns in my life. Time when we didn’t understand each other,” the 81-year old Eastwood says. “But after those trials we all rallied around what was right and acted as one, because that’s what we do.” With the drama building, Clint adds some fight to his voice in a passionate call to arms. “This country can’t be knocked down with one punch. My name is Hilary. I’m 19 years old and I’m from Waterloo, Canada. My Bieber Experience was back in July 2009. I used to watch MuchOnDemand all the time and with it being so close to home, I decided to try and get my hands on some free tickets. I brought along my two friends Emily and Brett with me for the adventure. I made sure ahead of time that this live taping I was going to, DID feature Justin Bieber. Of course with it being only a month after his first single ‘One Time’ was released, there were plenty of fans! We got there at about 11:00am so we would have some time to just wonder around Toronto and wait in line. We stood outside in line for about 2 hours but finally made our way inside; only to find we that we had to continue waiting in line in a stair well for another couple hours. It came to about 3:00pm by the time we got inside. Sadly, there was near to no where to sit or stand. We ended up stuck in the back of the crowd where it was almost impossible to see anything happening. Finally, it was time to start the show. Justin walks in and the fans screams were so loud! Chaz and Ryan were also there standing off to the side. Justin did his live interview and at commercial breaks, would come and take pictures and sign stuff. There was a pathway down the middle of the room so he could go outside and meet fans out there too. One commercial break, he was walking through the middle, and luckily some nice boys moved over and helped me get a chance to meet Justin. Justin passed by me numerous times but I was determine to meet him. A girl across from me was trying to get his attention too. He was right about to get a picture with her, until I yelled out “JUSTIN!” and he came over to me instead. He leaned in for the picture with me. I was so gitty that I got to meet this new pop singer in real life. He was the first celebrity I’ve ever met and I can tell you, I will never forget that day! I have our picture posted in my school locker every year , it’s on my Facebook and it’s currently my Twitter picture! BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! 2011 was an amazing year as it was, and My Bieber Experience made it even better. I remember in late March I saw a competition to win tickets & a meet and greet for Justin Bieber. I just about had a hissy fit when I saw it. I think I sent in about 500 entries. Then I remember on the 18th of April, the first thing I did was check my email, and I saw I had one unread email and it was from the competition organizers. I was thinking maybe it just might be an email saying thank you for entering, but then I saw it said, “CONGRATULATIONS”. I had a 30 minute freak out. I was so excited, I was going to meet JUSTIN BIEBER. Then on the 29th April, I went to Acer Arena with my cousin. I went to get my Justin Bieber wristband so I could get in to meet him and I waited with a million butterflies in my stomach. Then it was time. People led us in to wait and they had a number 1 rule; it was to BREATHE! We all waited anxiously then they led us somewhere else. They told us to get into groups so we could go in to meet Justin. I remember seeing Kenny on my left and I was in shock. Justin was wearing a black top and scarf, grey jeans, neon pink Vans and OMG, his hair was PERFECT. I took a deep breath and almost forgot to breath out. Justin had 3 girls on each side of him. I was the one person away from Justin and the photographer took one photo. Then all the people my group group asked Justin if he was okay because he had been sick, then I went over to hug him. Those 5 seconds, I felt like the luckiest person in the world. I was on cloud nine, with Justin of course. It was an amazing feeling, then we had to go and say bye to him and we left. After that we saw his concert which was AMAZING!!! From the moment ‘Love Me’ started to when ‘Baby’ ended, I felt like I was in a different place. The 29th of April 2011 was one of those days that I will never forget. This experience truly taught me to NEVER SAY NEVER, anything is possible. It may take a while, but NEVER SAY NEVER!
