‘Avengers’ Trailer Tops 2011 Marvel Movie Moments

First look and Robert Kirkman’s subsequent commentary top our list of the greatest Marvel moments of the year. By Josh Wigler Samuel L. Jackson in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel / MTV News With “The Avengers” finally assembling in just a few months and other properties like “Spider-Man” and “Ghost Rider” swinging back into theaters as well, it’s looking like a very bright 2012 for the Marvel brand. But don’t discount the power of 2011: From Captain America throwing his mighty shield to Thor striking lightning at the box office, it was an awesome year for the House of Ideas. From new releases and trailers to casting and crew announcements, these are our 10 favorite Marvel movie moments of 2011. 10. “First Class” Trailer Does Not Suck The “First Class” production horror stories were quite troubling to read about during the latest “X-Men” movie’s development, but that very first trailer more than cooled our fears. Matthew Vaughn’s exploration of mutant-kind in the psychedelic ’60s looked way up our alley based on that one trailer — and thankfully, we weren’t disappointed when the movie arrived a few months later. 9. “Wolverine” Director Drama We’re still nursing our wounds over losing director Darren Aronofsky from “The Wolverine,” but we won’t deny that the drama was interesting to observe. Thankfully, the story has a happy ending: Though Aronofsky won’t sink his claws into the Hugh Jackman superhero flick, “3:10 to Yuma” director James Mangold is coming aboard to save the day. We can’t wait to see what the newly minted “Wolverine” director has up his sleeve. 8. David Slade Finds “Daredevil” Likewise, we’re thoroughly psyched about “Eclipse” and “30 Days of Night” filmmaker David Slade heading to Hell’s Kitchen for Fox’s planned “Daredevil” reboot. Even though we don’t know who he has in mind to play the Man Without Fear, Slade’s plans to adapt Frank Miller’s classic “Born” story line are appealing enough all on their own. 7. “Avengers” Gets Conned We weren’t exactly thrilled about the lack of “Avengers” at San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, but the team at Marvel more than made up for that absence by attending the D-23 Expo and New York Comic Con a few months later. Featuring several of the film’s castmembers and presenting never-before-seen footage to an incredibly lucky crowd, both of the year’s major “Avengers” convention appearances proved to be valuable sources of information for fans of the upcoming superhero epic. 6. Spidey-Vision The “Amazing Spider-Man” teaser trailer released in July got our spider-senses tingling, and not necessarily for the right reasons. The trailer-ending POV sequence was a divisive creative decision, and the darker tone the reboot seems to be striving for didn’t sit well with everybody. That said, our curiosity about Andrew Garfield’s take on Peter Parker has never been higher, and it’s all thanks to that trailer’s existence. 5. Ghost Rider Pees Fire ‘Nuff said. 4. “Thor” and “Captain America” Arrive Finally, after years of waiting for the other core members of the Avengers squad to make their big-screen arrivals, we finally got our wish with this summer’s “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Chrises Hemsworth and Evans absolutely nailed it as the Asgardian warrior and super-soldier, respectively, and their return to theaters in next summer’s “Avengers” can’t possibly come soon enough. 3. “X-Men” Is “First Class” If the “First Class” trailer hadn’t already sold us on the Professor X and Magneto origin story, the movie itself sold us twice. “X-Men” was the surprise comic book hit of the year, if not commercially, then at least creatively. Brimming with phenomenal performances from Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Kevin Bacon, packed with outstanding action (Azazel FTW!) and clever connections to the pre-existing “X-Men” movie universe, “First Class” is my personal pick for best comic book movie of 2011. It’s that good. 2. Earth’s Mightiest Trailer Ever since Nick Fury uttered the words “Avengers initiative” at the end of “Iron Man,” we’ve been waiting for this trailer to drop. Finally, it did, and Joss Whedon’s take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes looks even more awesome than it did in our dreams. May 4 cannot come soon enough. 1. Earth’s Mightiest Trailer Commentary OK, the only thing better than the “Avengers” trailer? “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman’s “Avengers” trailer commentary. If you haven’t seen it yet, behold the hilarity for yourself in the video above. Blink-182’s ‘After Midnight’ An ‘Homage’ To ‘I Miss You’

Tom DeLonge jokes that his and Mark Hoppus’ lyrics are about ‘me and him kissing and making love to each other.’ By James Montgomery Blink-182 Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Blink-182 ‘s Neighborhoods album was rather famously recorded in fits and starts , so it’s sort of odd to learn the story behind “After Midnight,” the latest single from the disc, because, unlike pretty much everything else, this one was easy. ” ‘After Midnight’ was one of the last songs that we actually wrote for the album, and it originated from a beat that Travis [Barker] made up one day when he was working in the studio,” Mark Hoppus told MTV News on the set of the “Midnight” video in California. “We went in, listened to the beat, [and] it grabbed us immediately. It was one of those moments on the album where everybody just had a bunch of ideas all at once, and it came together pretty quickly. I think like in two or three hours, we had the basics of the song all written out.” “Midnight” is like most older Blink songs in its speedy creation, and its similarities with the band’s back catalog don’t end there: Much like “I Miss You,” a single from Blink’s 2003 self-titled album, the lyrics were handled by both Hoppus and DeLonge. “Tom and I divided the responsibility of writing the lyrics — Tom did the verses and I did the chorus — and we didn’t necessarily know what the other was writing about, but it fit together pretty well,” Hoppus explained. And DeLonge took things one step further by including lyrical nods to “I Miss You” in his verses on “Midnight.” Of course, he explained, that was only mostly intentional. And it’s not that he’s running out of ideas, he said. “Well, maybe a little bit, but not totally,” DeLonge said. “I threw in a little homage to ‘I Miss You,’ because, specifically on this song, I remember Travis saying that we should have something in the category of ‘I Miss You’ [on this album], and that’s when he showed us the beat. So when we wrote that, I remember that was in my mind.” Then again, DeLonge said he had ulterior motives for co-writing the song with Hoppus — ones that bordered (of course) on the sexual. “What’s cool about this song and ‘I Miss You,’ when Mark and I both write lyrics in different places, they come together and they’re both about the same thing, usually me and him kissing and making love to each other,” he laughed. “We end up writing super romantic songs. And I think it worked out really good on this one.” What do you think of “After Midnight”? Share your thoughts in the comments! Related Videos Set Visit With Blink-182 Related Artists blink-182

‘Breaking Dawn’ Midnight Screenings Earn $30 Million

Box-office haul is enough to break series record but a far cry from all-time high set by ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan Robert Pattinson in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit Entertainment Box-office analysts predicted that the returns for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” were going to be big, but now we’re finally getting an idea of just how big. The totals from Thursday’s midnight showings are in, and “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” just barely broke the series record by earning $30.25 million; “Eclipse” held the previous best for the series with $30.1 million. That works out to be almost $8,600 per location just from the midnight showings. While impressive, the midnight totals for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” were still a far cry from the record set by “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” which earned $43.5. Ray Subers from Box Office Mojo expects “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” to follow the pattern set by “New Moon” in 2009 for its Friday total, which was $83 million, and then go on to earn $160 million for its total opening weekend, which would make it the second-best opening of the year and all-time, again behind “Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Summit had originally predicted that the penultimate entry in the series could earn anywhere from $110 million to $125 million in its opening weekend. Rival studios claimed this number was purposely lower than actual expectations, which they put at more than the “New Moon” $142 million total. To put the midnight total into perspective, Taylor Lautner’s last film, “Abduction,” has earned only $27.5 million in the two months since its release. Another Day, Another Sleeping Traffic Controller… The FAA Isn’t Having It Anymore

Despite the FAA firing the head person making sure Traffic Controllers are doing what they’re supposed to do , these cats still seem to think taking a nap on the job is cool. On Saturday, a seventh Air Traffic Controller was suspended for falling asleep during the midnight shift at the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center. That made it clear to the geniuses at the FAA that they might have a widespread issue. So they’ve finally come up with a solution. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Sunday that the Federal Aviation Administration and the Air Traffic Controllers Union have reached an agreement to make changes in the aftermath of recent incidents involving sleeping air traffic controllers. The changes will be effective immediately. Controllers will now have a minimum of nine hours off between shifts. Currently they were getting as few as eight. Controllers will no longer be able to swap shifts unless they have a minimum of nine hours off between the last shift they worked and the one they want to begin. They will no longer be able to switch to an unscheduled midnight shift following a day off. FAA managers will schedule their own shifts in a way to ensure greater coverage in the early morning and late night hours. It’s about time. Source

His Justin Bieber Tattoo: What was he thinking?

After having seen this man with a tattoo of Justin Bieber’s face on his left thigh, I had to ask him,

FLASHBACK: PENN JILLETTE CALLS COPS ON GROPING TSA AGENT

Last Thursday I was flying to LA on the Midnight flight. I went through security my usual sour stuff. I beeped, of course, and was shuttled to the “toss-em” line. A security guy came over. I assumed the position. I had a button up shirt on that was untucked. He reached around while he was behind me and grabbed around my front pocket. I guess he was going for my flashlight, but the area could have loosely been called “crotch.” I said, “You have to ask me before you touch me or it’s assault.” He said, “Once you cross that line, I can do whatever I want.” I said that wasn’t true. I say that I have the option of saying no and not flying. He said, “Are you going to let me search you, or do I just throw you out?” I said, “Finish up, and then call the police please.” When he was finished with my shoes, he said, “Okay, you can go.” I said, “I’d like to see your supervisor and I’d like LVPD to come here as well. I was assaulted by you.” He said, “You’re free to go, there’s no problem.” I said, “I have a problem, please send someone over.” They sent a guy over and I said that I’d like to register a complaint. I insisted on his name and badge number. I filled it out with my name. The supervisor, I think trying to intimidate me, asked for my license, and I gave it to him happily as he wrote down information. I kept saying, “Please get the police,” and they kept saying, “You’re free to go, we don’t need the police.” I insisted and they got a higher up, female, supervisor. I was polite, cold, and a little funny. “Anyone is welcome to grab my crotch, I don’t require dinner and a movie, just ask me. Is that asking too much? You wanna grab my crotch, please ask. Does that seem like a crazy person to you?” I had about 4 of them standing around. Finally Metro PD shows up. It’s really interesting. First of all, the cop is a BIG P&T fan and that ain’t hurting. Second, I get the vibe that he is WAY sick of these federal leather-sniffers. He has that vibe that real cops have toward renta-cops. This is working WAY to my advantage, so I play it. The supervisor says to the cop, ‘He’s free to go. We have no problem, you don’t have to be here.” Which shows me that the Feds are afraid of local. This is really cool. She says, “We have no trouble and he doesn’t want to miss his flight.” I say, “I can take an early morning flight or a private jet. ” The cop says, “If I have a citizen who is saying he was assaulted, you can’t just send me away.” I tell the cop the story, in a very funny way. The cop, the voice of sanity says, “What’s wrong with you people? You can’t just grab a guy’s crank without his permission.” I tell him that my genitals weren’t grabbed and the cop says, “I don’t care, you can’t do that to people. That’s assault and battery in my book.” The supervisor says that they’ll take care of the security guy. The cop says, “I’m not leaving until Penn tells me to. Now do you want to fill out all the paper work and show up in court, because I’ll be right there beside you.” The supervisor says it’s an internal matter, and they’ll take care of it. “If you want to pursue this, we’re going to have to go through the electronic evidence.” Full Story Here: http://www.drudgereport.com/flash9p.htm added by: im1mjrpain

IFC is SUPER

As predicted after its raucous, well-received Toronto premiere, James Gunn’s SUPER emerged from a bidding war this weekend with a new distributor. Not quite as predicted, that buyer was IFC Films, which will release the twisted, Rainn Wilson-starring, hero-with-a-wrench splatter-comedy via its new IFC Midnight banner. It’s the first sale of a film this year during the festival proper, with more expected to follow in the days ahead. Stay tuned here for details as events warrant… [ IFC Films ]

9 First Impressions of Rainn Wilson’s Instant Cult Classic SUPER

James Gunn’s SUPER just concluded its Midnight Madness world premiere, and if there’s any early favorite on that list of bidding-war candidates coming out of Toronto. This would probably be the one. I’ll have more on this one later from the ground, but for now, some first — i.e. lasting — impressions of what promises to be the effed-up belle of the ball…

Super Set for Midnight Bow at TIFF

As befits its name, the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program took to Twitter in the wee hours of Tuesday to announce a few additions to next month’s slate. Among them: The world premiere of Super , the James Gunn-directed, Rainn Wilson-starring comedy about a guy who adopts a superhero persona after his wife takes up with another man. Ellen Page co-stars as his “cute psychopath” sidekick; much wrench-swinging ensues. The Josh Hartnett fantasy/martial arts/Western/whatsit Bunraku is in as well. Developing… [ @mmadnesstiff via
