Mac Miller Reunites, Shares Secrets With His ‘First Date’

MTV’s Rya Backer also has a few chance encounters with ‘exes’ like Kendrick Lamar and Young the Giant at Bonnaroo ’12. By Rya Backer Mac Miller on a “First Date” Photo: Bonnaroo , you seem so far away already. Earlier this month, I caught some amazing performances — Battles, Feist and Ludacris were just some of my favorites. But between sets, I found myself fighting to maintain my composure as I encountered something many men and women face daily: bumping into an ex. Granted, they were rapper and rocker exes of the fictionalized “First Date,” variety, but still: We’d gone on a date. And yes, there were cameras involved and I’m very much in a real-life relationship (which is to say nothing of the statuses of the many artists I’ve gone out with), but still — connections were made. So, on a plot of land somewhere between Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee, I ran into upwards of seven “exes.” Over a fairly wide expanse, I had chance run-ins with the likes of Kendrick Lamar , Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and Young the Giant. And then there was Mac Miller . A perennial fave around the MTV newsroom (and a favorite “First Date” episode among rabid followers of the series such as my mother and father), Mac and I caught up with each other to talk about what he’s been up to since we first went out late last year for a kosher lunch at New York’s Katz’s Deli. “I made history,” he deadpanned, referring to his debut, Blue Slide Park, which became the first independent album to hit #1 in well over a decade. In addition to that small feat, Mac toured the world and dropped an acclaimed mixtape, Macadelic. A follow-up mixtape with Pharrell is on deck, and there’s even more music to be heard. “I’ve been making my own beats, which I’ve done forever but, like, I’m really gonna start taking it seriously now,” Mac told me. “I’ve been making beats forever, but no one had known … I kept it secret.” Hopefully, we won’t have to wait until a third date — which Mac suggested we do at a NASCAR race — to hear them. Prominent Trauma Surgeon With Special Weapons Expertise Wanted For Murking 33-Year-Old Woman At Buffalo Area Medical Center

Homeboy had been suffering “emotional problems” over the last couple months… SMH. Black Trauma Surgeon Wanted In Shooting Death Of Woman At Erie County Medical Center A popular black surgeon is wanted in the shooting death of a woman at the Erie County Medical Center this Wednesday morning: Buffalo police are looking for a prominent trauma surgeon in connection with the fatal shooting this morning of a woman on the campus of the Erie County Medical Center. Timothy V. Jorden Jr., 49, of Lakeview, is described as a bald, black male, about 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds. Police also said Jorden, who served in the Army, could be “special weapons trained.” The victim was Jacqueline Wisniewski, a 33-year-old receptionist at ECMC. The shooting was “not a random act,” officials said. The shooting death prompted authorities to lock down the hospital as a huge police presence converged on the campus to find the killer. The lockdown was lifted shortly before noon. People familiar with the case called Jorden a well-known, popular trauma surgeon at the medical center. Two sources, though, said Jorden had experienced some emotional problems in recent months. The attempt to locate him also included information about four vehicles registered to Jorden, including two GMC Sierra pickups, a Cadillac and a Chevrolet Cobalt, all from 2008 or 2010. Police were given a photograph of the man and were showing it to people at various checkpoints. Meanwhile, a police helicopter and a police presence surrounded the area around Jorden’s home, on West Arnold Drive in Lakeview, late this morning and early this afternoon. K-9 dogs, the Buffalo and Amherst police SWAT teams, an Erie County sheriff’s helicopter, and a team of U.S. marshals all rushed to the shooting scene earlier in an attempt to track down the killer. Four shots were fired at about 8:15 a.m., killing the woman, police officials said. There has been no indication from authorities about anyone else being wounded in the attack. The shooting happened on the ECMC grounds, but there have been conflicting reports whether it occurred in a covered passage-way between the campus’s David K. Miller Building and the kidney center, or in the Miller Building itself. “The SWAT Team is in control of the situation,” Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said at mid-morning, during a news conference several hundred yards from the shooting scene. “It is an active situation.” Through early afternoon the hospital diverted emergency room patients to Buffalo General Hospital but the campus reopened shortly before 2 p.m., except for the Miller building. The hospital also said all employees should report at their regularly scheduled time today. Here’s a little more information about Jorden : He graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1996 and also was promoted to captain in the Army, according to a Buffalo News profile of him. Jorden has been known as a highly skilled, busy trauma surgeon who was popular at ECMC. But two sources said he had experienced some emotional problems in recent months. A News profile in 1996 described Jorden as a Buffalo native and 1981 Bennett High School graduate who joined the National Guard in high school, went into the Army after graduation and served with the Army’s Special Forces, first as a weapons expert, then as a medic. In those roles, he was on active duty in the Caribbean, Japan and Korea. Following his Army service, Jorden went to Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C., where he graduated cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Earning a scholarship through the Army’s Health Professional Scholarship Program, Jorden chose UB over other medical schools. While at UB, Jorden tutored local high school students in math and science and received an award for academic achievement from the Buffalo Chapter of the National Medical Association, as well as a dean’s award. From UB, Jorden went to Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash., for two years. He later joined the ECMC department of surgery as an attending physician in 2003, also serving as a clinical assistant professor in surgery at UB. Jorden is certified in advanced-trauma life support and has received numerous awards recognizing his relationships with patients, his teaching skills and his involvement in the community. In 2002, Jorden was one of about two dozen people honored with the Black Achievers in Industry Awards in Buffalo. Sounds like a really top notch guy who went all the way left. This is so sad. Hopefully they catch him before he does any more harm to himself or others. Source Photo Credit: James P. McCoy

Emma Watson Puts On Her Best American Accent

British actress tells MTV News how she mastered the accent in ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Watson at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, California. Photo: WireImage Are you tired of watching the “Perks of Being a Wallflower” trailer yet? Neither are we! Luckily for all of us, MTV News spent some time with the very likable cast at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday in order to glean a few tidbits about the movie , like lovely British actress Emma Watson ‘s first time speaking in an American accent on film. When asked how she mastered the foreign-to-her dialect, Watson thanked her co-stars, Ezra Miller and Logan Lerman . “I had these guys,” Watson said, gesturing to Miller and Lerman as her accent tutors. “These guys were very supportive and they told me when I said things that didn’t really sound right. I worked with a coach and I hung out.” “You hung out!” Miller laughed. “She hung out, that’s how she did it. She hung out.” We decided to put Watson on the spot and test her skills with a request to repeat the following phrase in her best American accent: “Ryan Gosling is so hot.” She did not disappoint, repeating the phrase with gusto. “That was really good,” both Miller and Lerman agreed. Based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky (published by MTV Books), “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” follows high school freshman Charlie (Lerman) as he learns to navigate adolescence with the help of new friends Sam (Watson) and Patrick (Miller). The movie opens everywhere September 14. Mac Miller Shows Growth In Sold-Out New York Concert

‘Now we got all the extra stuff. It’s a different kind of show,’ MC says of Macadelic tour on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mac Miller Photo: FilmMagic If Mac Miller ‘s Macadelic mixtape is all about growth, then his new and improved stage show is the visual representation of that. It’s hard to imagine that Mac’s live show could have gotten that much better in the three short months between his Blue Slide Park run and his current Macadelic tour, but the 20-year-old Pittsburgh MC continues to master the stage, as he proved Wednesday night during his sold-out gig at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. Visually, Mac’s new trippy set design is a step up from the playground theme he used when he was on the road promoting BSP. “It’s cool, man, it’s a different type of thing. We were used to doing like the DJ, me and the hypeman and then that’s it and the homeys,” Mac said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” only hours before he took the stage. “Now we got all the extra stuff. We got like the cool visuals. It’s a different kind of show.” For starters, there was a five-panel video screen that hovered above the stage displaying customized montages for each of the songs that Mac performed. There were colorful LCD lights, raised platforms and a gang of illuminated faux mushrooms on the stage. Miller didn’t reveal all of the props all at once; instead, he pulled back the layers to his set design slowly as the hour-long show progressed. It was just after 9:30 p.m. when DJ Clockwork jumped on the turntables playing “English Lane,” the opening track to Mac’s #1 debut album . Immediately afterward, the star rapper and his hypeman TreeJay stormed out onstage rapping along to “Blue Slide Park.” Miller started out strong, throwing out his club-hopping anthem ” Party on Fifth Ave .” rather early before stopping to address the spirited crowd. “New York City, what the f— is good?” he shouted as the young concertgoers screamed ferociously for their rap hero. “My name is Mac Miller and I appreciate y’all coming out.” It was September 2010 when a then wet-behind-the-ears Mac performed his first show in NYC at the intimate SOB’s, but on Wednesday night he returned a much different MC. Still, the Most Dope General didn’t forget what got him here, so he ran through several songs from his 2010 K.I.D.S. mixtape, including “Don’t Mind if I Do,” “The Spins” and “Kool-Aid & Frozen Pizza.” After he bounced around to the rambunctious ” Knock Knock ,” the stage lights went low and the psychedelic mushroom props started to glow as the Mac emerged from the dark, spitting “Loud.” Since 2011 the energetic performer has rocked more than 200 shows, and while he made sure to roll out all of his fan favorites, he was clearly excited to put his new material on display. He slowed things down for the soul-searching “Thoughts From a Balcony,” “Angels” and “F— ‘Em All” but picked things right up for his set-closing “Donald Trump.” While rapping the words to his gold-selling single, Miller played to the crowd, encouraging a full-throated sing-along. On the song’s hook, Mac promises to “take over the world,” yeah, one concert venue at a time. What is your favorite Mac Miller live performance? Tell us in the comments! Demi Lovato Announces Summer Tour Dates

North American jaunt kicks off in June and wraps up at the beginning of September. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Timothy Hiatt/Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to give your heart a break on her just-announced summer tour. The Unbroken singer will take her act on the road beginning in June. The trek will kick off on June 12 in California, before circling around the country for 21 dates with stops in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Boston and one stop in Toronto, Canada. The tour will run through the summer, wrapping up on September 1 in Salem, Oregon. Lovato hit the road last fall to promote the album. That smaller Stateside tour was featured in her MTV documentary, “Stay Strong.” She also recently completed a tour in South America. This time around, Lovato is expected to bring Hot Chelle Rae and Owl City with her. Unbroken just went platinum, celebrating sales of more than one million since its September release. She recently dropped the album’s second single, “Give Your Heart a Break,” as well as the music video earlier this month. While Lovato has been open about her personal struggles, she didn’t want this album to be exclusively about them. “I didn’t want to come out with this depressing album. I think it’s important that I kept a lot of my heart open on the album because I talked about my personal issues,” she told MTV News. “But I also had some fun dance songs on there for people to enjoy.” Demi’s summer tour dates, according to her label:

Wiz Khalifa And Mac Miller Ham Up Rap Beef On ‘RapFix Live’

The Pittsburgh pair refuse to look at each other in their first joint interview. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Call them hip-hop’s odd couple. Though they both hail from Pittsburgh and are signed to local indie label Rostrum Records, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller absolutely hate each other — well, not really. On Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” the ‘Burgh’s finest appeared together for their first joint interview. Rather than play things straight, the pair decided to have a little fun on set. “Why is he here?” Wiz asked, throwing his hands in the air after host Sway Calloway brought Mac onto the “RapFix Live” set. “I’m getting hated on on this couch man; can I get my own couch?” Mac responded. Sway tried to play peacemaker, but Wiz and Mac weren’t having it. The two were cordial enough to sit down on the red couch together, but refused to face each other. “I haven’t seen you in a while man, you looking good,” Khalifa said, looking away from Miller trying to break the playful tension. “Thanks, wish I can say the same for you, man,” Mac responded, trying his best to hold in his laughter. A beef between Pittsburgh’s two biggest rap stars would be quite problematic, considering that the duo are planning to hit the road together this summer on the Under the Influence of Music tour . Khalifa and Miller will be joined by Taylor Gang’s Chevy Woods as well as TDE’s Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q on the nine-show run. Though they remain good friends, Wiz and Mac have built their own careers separate from each other. There are only a few low-key collaborations between the pair, but they plan to record together again soon. “Me and Mac are gonna collaborate together because that’s what I want to do, it doesn’t matter what he wants to do. What I say goes,” Wiz said in character. “We’re gonna do a song, because we’ve had a plan this whole time,” Mac revealed. “Actually I need Mac. I’m trying to use his success to boost my album because it’s about to come out,” Khalifa joked. Will you be attending Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller’s Under the Influence of Music tour? Mac Miller To Make Return To ‘RapFix Live’

The 20-year-old Pittsburgh MC is currently on tour for his Macadelic mixtape. By Rob Markman Mac Miller Photo: MTV News Mac is back, so you can expect a Most Dope “RapFix Live” when Mac Miller returns to the red couch on Wednesday. It’s been a hell of a ride for the 20-year-old spitter, and he doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. After landing the #1 album in the country last November with his debut LP Blue Slide Park, Mac has been moving at an accelerated pace. He concluded his 80-date, sold-out BSP tour in December and immediately hit the lab to cook up his Macadelic mixtape , which he dropped as a free Internet download in March. “It’s like the story of someone who is growing up, trying to figure out who he is and trying to figure out what he’s supposed to do in the world and how he’s gonna change it,” Mac told Mixtape Daily of Macadelic. “I think it’s a great piece because it’s a great part of my career, it’s a great time right now and I feel like I been making mixtapes for five years, so this one is very special to me.” The tape features contributions from Cam’ron, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne on the soul-bearing “The Question.” “This song is a real meaningful song to me, man, and I wanted to make sure I got Wayne on something that was heartfelt,” he said of “The Question.” “I got him on a record that I was saying something and not just talkin’ sh–, so this record right here really kinda deals with a question that I’ve been goin’ through in my own head.” Mac is currently out on tour in support of Macadelic, but that didn’t stop him from announcing his next run: the with Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and Chevy Woods. “It means everything, Mac’s my little homey. It’s good for his fans; it’s good for everybody who’ve been wanting to see us do what we do together,” Wiz told MTV News of the joint summer tour last week while on the set for Maroon 5’s “Payphones” video in L.A.
