Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have formed an unlikely friendship which stemmed from a radio interview Miss Swift had done where she requested Nicki’s “Superbass,” a cut off Nicki’s Pink Friday album, to be played. The radio host, interviewing her at the time took it a step further and asked Taylor to rap the lyrics, which she said she could effortlessly do. After a slight hesitation, Taylor erupted into song, adding her soft-spoken voice to Minaj’s mature lyrics. The video spawned several copy-cats and introduced “Superbass” to a complete new realm of people. Last night, upon accepting her 2011 American Music Award for “Favorite Hip Hop Artist,” Nicki Minaj thanked Taylor for her contribution to “Superbass.” Nicki says “Well, I have to thank her because if it wasn’t for her just being open and honest about a new song she liked no-one would know… her fan base would not have known about ‘Super Bass’.” Taylor said she is “blown away” by Nicki’s acknowledgment! The two kicked off a night that would lead to two wins for the fierce MC, who nabbed trophies for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Pink Friday. Before Guetta hit the stage, he spoke to MTV News on the red carpet, revealing that his collabo with Minaj would have fans seeing a whole new side of the MC. “To tell you the truth, the fact that I’m performing this record for the first time … I want to see the reaction that people are gonna have because they are going to hear Nicki like they’ve never heard her before,” he explained of working with Minaj, who also appears on his song “Where Them Girls At.” “I’m really happy today because I’m having a #1 record with Usher [for] ‘Without You,’ which is amazing [and] my first #1 as an artist in the U.S. And presenting this also, I really can’t wait to get the reaction from the American audience when they’re gonna see her sing like this because she is killing it.” In the lead-up to the performance, Guetta said that Minaj was already bringing fire to the table. “She always comes with the crazy ideas,” he said. “So it’s very exciting.” With the performance under their belts, the two now have plans to shoot a video for the track, which appears on Guetta’s album Nothing but the Beat. Guetta and Minaj teased the video plans on Twitter, hours after the AMAs wrapped up. “We are shooting our video with @NICKIMINAJ tmw. It’s gonna be sick! #nbtb #TurnMeOn,” Guetta wrote. “Can’t wait David! Love u!!!” she tweeted in response. Now comes word that the colorful MC will also take the stage. She’s set to kick off the show with David Guetta . The Hollywood Reporter reports that the duo who recorded the track “Where Them Girls At?” for Guetta’s album Nothing but the Beat will start the party that will also include performances by Chris Brown, Katy Perry, LMFAO , Marc Anthony, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Pitbull and Maroon 5. Guetta and Minaj began their love affair when they hit the studio to record the club track. When MTV News spoke to Guetta , the French DJ had only the nicest things to say about the fiery rapper. “It was an amazing start working together because I really wanted to work some more with her. I’m a really huge fan. To be honest, it’s very rare that I call artists — most of the time they call me. I’ve been chasing her for like a year because I really wanted to work with her,” Guetta confessed. Minaj has made it clear that the love goes both ways. “He really is a master — a master at his craft,” Minaj said earlier this year. “He’s got it down pat. For me to link up with him, I’m just honored that he was reaching out. When I met him, I liked him instantly.
