Are You Enabling Your Loved Ones Bad Financial Decisions?

Read the original:

An enabler is one that enables another to achieve an end; especially: one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior. Before you move on to your next post feeling some peculiar air of superiority, please note that while the definition cites substance abuse as a self-destructive behavior, it doesn’t disqualify the many of you (yes, YOU!) that enable friends and family members financially, as well! It’s one thing to assist someone who may find themselves in a bind from time to time, but it’s another to allow people to become another line item on your own struggling budget. Not only is helping them, actually hurting them, but it may be hurting you, as well. Singer & actor turned author, Tyrese, put it best while on tour to promote his new book, How To Get Out of Your Own Way. His words echo in my mind still daily: “Sometimes to help someone, you have to stop helping them.” So simple, yet so remarkably powerful. And yet, I know how it goes. We feel obligated to help family and friends who are in a financial bind. After all, isn’t it the noble thing to do? It might be if it weren’t for the fact that nobility can often create an inability in a person to figure “it” out on their own. Financially speaking, “it” can be a number of circumstances from how to earn their own income and manage their own money wisely to how to decipher between their own wants and needs, pay their own bills on time and essentially how to hustle So, how can you tell if you are enabling someone in your life? Answer “Yes” or “No” to the following 12 questions: READ MORE How To Live Big On A Small Budget 3 Signs You’re A Financially Healthy Woman Did You Know Nicki Minaj Plays The Clarinet? 5 Ways To Make Life Transitions Easier

Read more:

No matter what direction life takes you, there are always times when you have to make the transition from one environment to another. Whether you are trying to decompress on vacation after a long stint at work or are just getting back after time off, there is a lot to think about when changing one’s mindset based on one’s surroundings.  Being thrown into a new atmosphere can be a drastic change, especially when you find yourself in a stricter environment. Maybe you only had a short day’s notice and there was not enough time to mentally prepare for the daily grind, or perhaps you have had time to acquaint yourself with the idea of being productive, setting your sights on future goals that you have had in the back of your mind for months. It can be weird to think about changing the pace of one’s life, going from sleeping late and beach reading to the daunting task of focusing one’s mind, but there are definitely ways to ease the transition and make the changes flow into every day life. Middle grounds can be tricky to navigate, but these five tips below can help you get past the uneasy feelings of transitions and go full-force into a change for the better. 1. Make a schedule that works for you. It can be simple things like grabbing the same train every morning or getting breakfast from your favorite coffee shop on your way to the office. The more things that become predictable or relaxing, the easier it will be for you to get into a productive mindset. Other ideas would be to organize one’s clothes and necessities for work the night before, as to leave the next morning a stress-free commute, as well as create a check-off list for anything important you might forget. Creating the semblance of normalcy from the beginning is a great way to start off in a new environment, as it sets a precedent from the get-go! 2. List all of your goals out for yourself. If you start grounding your mind in the tasks you have to complete and what you want out of your work, it is possible to gain relaxation while still being in work mode. Having everything in order is always a great way to ease stress levels and make transitioning into a new environment all the more smooth. Goals are healthy, optimistic ways to remind yourself that you have dreams, ambitions, and places you want to go. It’s important to keep the faith, even when the transitions seem difficult. Once the transition period is over, all that will be there are the goals that you set for yourself! 13 Tips To Keep Healthy, By Expressing Your Creativity 3. Create a balance early on. Don’t expect yourself to be fully absorbed in your work right away or you are just setting yourself up for failure. Slowly ease into the new routine, but be kind to yourself. While you should attempt to jump right in to a new routine on the first day, there is only so much transition you can take on in one day. Keep busy, but take breaks if you need them. Take a nice lunch out and decompress. When you’ve been out of the game for a while, it can be hard to It takes time to get into a full routine and gain a sense of what one is supposed to do with the time they are given. 4. Keep yourself healthy and well-rested. When you’re stressed out AND over-tired, everything just seems worse and you are unable to focus on the new-ness of the situation with clarity. Getting a good night’s sleep, a warm cup of coffee or whatever perks you up in the morning, and a delicious lunch while on-the-go can all be important points that help you be productive, yet also keep a strong well-being throughout the day. The mind is clearer when the body can focus! 5. Be positive about the changes you’re dealing with. Keeping the optimism and elev8ing yourself in terms of what you can accomplish is a healthy way to live your life. It’s important to continually remind yourself that you’re a strong, independent individual with lots of strengths and ambition. This transition is only a stepping stone to your eventual success in life and there is no reason you can’t pull through it. You can do it! 5 Ways To Prepare Yourself For A Stress-Free Vacation

Lady Gaga Gave Rick Gonzalez ‘Freedom’ To Play Jesus His Way In ‘Judas’

Actor tells MTV News that co-directors Gaga and Laurieann Gibson ‘gave me a lot of confidence.’ By Matt Elias Rick Gonzalez Photo: MTV News Just a day after Lady Gaga’s video for “Judas” debuted , fans and foes alike are still buzzing with reactions. That includes actor/rapper Rick Gonzalez, who plays Jesus in the video. For Gonzalez, the experience was somewhat surreal, beginning with his initial casting. “I’m sitting in my house, I get a call from my manager, [and] she says, ‘Lady Gaga wants you to be in the video,’ ” Gonzalez recalled to MTV News. “I’m like, ‘Oh, cool. Lady Gaga who?’ and she’s like, ‘Rick, the Lady Gaga.’ And I’m like, ‘Wow, OK.’ And the first thing that comes to my mind and what I tell her is, like, ‘How does she know I even exist?’ “They send a treatment over and I read it, and I was like, ‘Wow, I’m honored to be even a part of it.’ I really love the story and what she did and [where] she was thinking of going with it and I was really honored to be a part of it. So I was really stoked.” Once on set, Gonzalez said it felt more like a film than a music video. ” Laurieann Gibson, who directed along with Gaga — I mean, they really had great shots and they had this amazing huge production set up for the video,” Gonzalez said. “It really did feel that way. We were on a bike, on a flatbed truck, and I have Gaga behind me, and we’re like moving around the lot, just running around. So it was definitely grand in that scheme.” While Gonzalez had the honor of manning Gaga’s motorcycle in the opening shots, he was relieved that he didn’t have to actually drive it for the wide shots. “Those shots, that’s not me riding,” the actor revealed. “So the shots with me and her, we’re literally being dragged on a truck. I didn’t want the responsibility of dropping a bike with Gaga on it.” The actor developed newfound respect for Gaga after witnessing just how hands-on she was with all aspects of the clip. But there was one area that Gaga and co-director Gibson ceded to Gonzalez. “The beautiful thing about playing Jesus in the video was they really gave me the freedom to find it in my own way and they gave me a lot of confidence in that, and I was really impressed in Laurieann’s direction and just giving me the space and letting me find it,” Gonzalez said. He was equally impressed with how Gaga and Gibson communicated, which at times wasn’t even verbal. “I think the chemistry between Laurieann and Lady Gaga, it was interesting to watch because they were totally in sync with each other creatively, and I think that you’re going to see a lot more amazing things with them, ’cause they totally have like this synergy with them,” he predicted, adding, “And I’ve overheard them say they’re totally gonna do a lot more things together, so I’m excited to see what that stuff’s gonna be.” What do you think of Rick’s portrayal of Jesus in the “Judas” video? Jesse James Feels Kat Von D is WAY Better in Bed Than Sandra Bullock

Jesse James is singing the praises of his fiancee … which is nice. Except for the fact that it’s sort of at the expense of his ex-wife. Guess he was serious when he said he’s done worrying about Sandra Bullock. Set to wed Kat Von D this year, in what will be his fourth marriage, James isn’t afraid to compare his future wife to his scorned, former spouse. In an interview on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show Thursday, James was asked: “So who’s more fun in bed? Sandra Bullock or Kat Von D?” “That one’s an easy no-brainer,” James replied . “Kat von D?” Stern asked. “Yes, sir. 100 percent. She’s a vixen,” James said of Kat. “The way she gets in my head and how she makes me feel.” “It’s a mental thing,” James gushed of sex with his bride-to-be, who stars on TLC’s LA Ink . “We’re just connected on a whole different level.” James freely admits that he betrayed Sandra Bullock , but confessed to Stern that he never felt all that secure with the Oscar winner at all. “I always felt like any moment that rug was going to be yanked out,” he said. “Yeah, she could stand there in front of the world and say she loved me, but in my mind I was thinking, yeah bulls**t … you don’t love me.” Whether he’s blaming her or just explaining why he felt and acted the way he did at the time is unclear, but he didn’t cheat on her right away. “It took a couple years,” he explained. “It was like a very short bubble… It was hard. I married America’s sweetheart, and she’s one of the biggest stars in the world, but I’m still this f***ed up kid from Long Beach [Calif.].” “I did really love her and I did really care for her,” James insisted to Stern. “The stuff that I did that was bad, but I don’t think necessarily nullifies everything I felt. I really did have real feelings for her.

Haley Reinhart Takes An ‘Idol’ Risk On Lady Gaga’s ‘You And I’

But her rendition of unreleased Born This Way track mostly fails to impress ‘American Idol’ judges. By Adam Graham Haley Reinhart performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: FOX Eyebrows were immediately raised on Wednesday’s (May 4) “American Idol” when host Ryan Seacrest announced Haley Reinhart would be taking on an “unreleased Lady Gaga song.” Did Reinhart get early access to Born This Way ? Was she sifting through Gaga’s hard drive and pillaging for rare demos and B-sides? Not quite: Turned out she’d be taking on “You and I,” which Gaga has been performing in concert on her Monster’s Ball Tour stops for the better part of the last year and which she debuted last June at Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball fundraiser in England. Reinhart was given the song by “Idol” mentor Jimmy Iovine, who heads up Gaga’s record label and who thought Reinhart could put a nice spin on the song. Prior to the performance, Reinhart said she wanted to get Gaga’s approval before going ahead with it, so that she didn’t “step on anybody’s toes.” (Or maybe she just wanted to talk to Gaga.) Gaga gave her the green light, according to Reinhart. “She was excited about it as well,” Reinhart said. “And I was like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna go for it.’ ” While Reinhart rehearsed the song, guest mentor Sheryl Crow called her decision to take on a song that many might not know “super bold.” But Iovine — who said Reinhart “laces” the song — was confident in his encouragement of Reinhart. “She’s got it,” he said “And taking on this song is just another way of showing you that she’s got it.” Reinhart began her performance sprawled out on the stage’s steps, aided only by a piano. She sang the song’s opening line — “It’s been a long time since I came around/ It’s been a long time but I’m back in town” — with a bluesy, boozy swagger. By song’s end, she was trading runs with a chorus of three backup singers and seemed to have the moment that Crow predicted she’d have with the song. Then the judges piped in. The look of concern was evident on Jennifer Lopez’s face, and she began by softening the blow with a compliment: “I loved the way you sounded,” she said, “especially at the end.” But then she laid into Reinhart for taking on what she perceived as an unknown song, and even cut into Jimmy Iovine for recommending she do it. “I’m just not sure that was the best advice that Jimmy gave you,” she chided, saying she should have taken on something that “showcased you in a better way.” Reinhart — who has thrice landed in the bottom three this season — looked dejected following Lopez’s criticism, and then Randy Jackson weighed in, calling “You and I” “not that great a song.” “I don’t know if this whole thing did you any favors,” he said. However, Steven Tyler — who’s not exactly the hardest-hitting member of the judges’ panel — was positive in his review. “I loved it,” he said, paraphrasing the T-shirt he wore that spelled LOVE in capital letters. “I love what you do.” He went on to say Reinhart was “just one perfect song away from being an ‘American Idol,’ ” and advised her to find that song. Onstage, Seacrest asked Reinhart what she thought of her decision to take on “You and I.” Mock-stroking her chin as if in deep thought, Reinhart questioned whether it was worth taking the risk, but ultimately seemed at peace with her decision. “Hey, it was an opportunity, and I took it,” she said. Meanwhile, others were quick to defend the singer online. Reacting to the judges’ drubbing, “Idol” tweeter and expert MJ Santilli posted from @mjsbigblog, writing, “I can’t effing believe this garbage… VOTING FOR HALEY TIL MY FINGERS BLEED.” What did you think of Haley’s performance of “You and I”?
