San Francisco 49ers player Chris Culliver is in hot water again, this time over a whole new set of offensive comments directed at women, not gays. It’s not quite in that league, but he posted a screen grab of an iPhone conversation to Instagram last night (for reasons unknown) that has drawn criticism. Here’s how the conversation went down … Culliver’s friend states: “This bitch talkin bout how I can take her on a nice dat … yeah my car … bitch you got a whole dude … live in work you trippin.” Culliver: “Lol yeah hoes be thinking more then they are. Boy I tell you” Culliver’s friend: “Right these hoes be trippin'” The 49ers, who already dealt with Chris Culliver’s homophobic comments last winter, said, “We are aware of the matter, and it is being handled internally.” The Instagram post has since been taken down .
Less than 10 miles from the finish line of the Boston Marathon, where three were killed and 176 injured Monday, lies a billboard with a one-word message: Cowards. As the manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev continues, the region remains paralyzed with fear over what might still transpire and reeling from what already has. The billboard seems to sum it up well. Located off the I-93 expressway that crosses the city, it belongs to the local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union. The chapter, Local 103, usually uses the billboard for union-related and community messages but that changed Tuesday after the two bombs exploded. Since then, it has rotated every 10 seconds between the “Cowards” sign directed at the Boston bombing suspects , and another that reads, “Pray for Boston.” “It was Local 103′s way of shouting out our feelings of anger: Cowards,” business manager Michael P. Monahan told ABC News of the Billboard. None of the union’s 7,500 members were directly hurt in the explosions, according to a representative, but they have another strong connection. The town where the chapter’s HQ is located, Dorchester, Mass., is the same town where the blasts’ youngest victim, Martin Richard, and his family lived. Richard, 8, died while attending the marathon festivities with his mother, father and two siblings. His mother and sister sustained “serious” injuries. “No other word or words came to my mind when I heard of the tragic event, when a family from our neighborhood was effected so tragically,” Monahan said. Local 103 says it to keep the billboard devoted to the Boston Marathon survivors but is working on incorporating new messages going forward.
Ron Howard’s time across the pond looks like it has been good for him. With the exception of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby , I’ve never been a fan of racing movies. I realize that death lurks around every curve, but, from a spectator’s perspective, auto races are about as thrilling as Major League baseball games. There’s a lot of monotony in those laps (and innings). I feel the same about Howard’s stolid filmmaking style — have you seen The Da Vinci Code lately? — so when I learned he was the director of Rush , the story of the 1970s rivalry between Formula One race-car drivers Austrian Niki Lauda and Brit James Hunt , I didn’t exactly put it on my must-see list of 2013. But after watching this revved-up UK trailer for the movie, I’ve changed my mind. I’m now eager to see Rush, if only to determine whether Howard has shaken up his filmmaking style as much as this clip indicates. To use a punny driving term: he looks like he’s really released the clutch on his safe style. There’s real tension and unpredictable energy in this footage, which was shot in the UK and Germany, as well as a kind of feckless romance that is so Seventies. (As Hunt, the rakish Chris Hemsworth , says in voiceover: “The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel.” Oh yes, and Olivia Wilde plays 70s model Suzy Miller.) And pay special attention to Daniel Brühl , who may not be as handsome as Hemsworth, but is much more compelling as Lauder, the Austrian driver who was horribly burned in a crash at the 1976 German Grand Prix. Remarkably, he returned to the track six weeks later to keep Hunt from knocking him from his standing as the number-one ranked drive in the world. The actual outcome of that race is rather anticlimactic in movie terms — Lauda retired from the race — so it will be interesting to see whether Howard can make it pay off dramatically. That said, the film’s September release date — when the film industry is getting into the awards-season mindset in earnest, suggests that he’s found a solution. I’ll be watching. Rihanna appeared to be speaking from the heart – and about her breakup with Chris Brown – during her concert last night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The subject of heartbreak certainly seemed to be on her mind, the same day as rumors of her split with Chris began to circulate across the Interwebs. “How many of you are in love? How many of you hate love? How many of you don’t f–king understand it? I’m in that group,” Rihanna said on stage. She then launched into “What Now,” which features the lyrics: “I’ve been ignoring this big lump in my throat / I shouldn’t be crying, tears were for the weaker days / I’m stronger, now what, so I say / But something’s missing.” Deep, deep stuff right there people. Thought-provoking. Despite her apparent in-concert soul-searching, Rihanna was still all smiles during the show, even encouraging the crowd to get rowdier at times. “Los Angeles, what the f––k?,” she said at one point. “I live here now, so I know y’all can get ratchet.” And they did, leading to an epic night for Rihanna , who recently spoke of her happiness at having a fresh start with Brown … so much for that evidently. In any case, rumors that he was cheating with Keisha Kimball appear to be false, and it doesn’t look like she was two-timing him either. It just fizzled. For the time being. How long before they reconcile, again?
My name is Oliwia, I’m 19 years old and I’m a proud belieber from Poland. I have been supporting Justin Drew Bieber for 4 years but I have never thought one day I would be able to write my own Bieber experience. Honestly, I have never ever thought I would be lucky enough to meet my idol in person. I guess you are wondering why Justin is the most important person to me. Well Kidrauhl and his music helped me go through the most difficult time in my life when I was in depression. I owe my life to him. He taught me how to love and how to believe in myself. His music and his amazing heart was always with me, even when he didn’t know I existed. He gave me the strength I needed in live my life. I’m crying writing this Bieber experience because I have been waiting so long for this. I was really disappointed because we originally didn’t had a date for the Believe tour in our Narnia country. Everything changed at the end of the January when Justin cancelled his concert in Lyon and decided to come to Poland on 25 th of March. I was totally surprised and so happy! Justin has never been in Poland and Polish beliebers were fighting for years for this to happen. This is crazy because tickets went on sale only two days after the announcement. I was trying to get M&G but they were sold out in like 3 seconds so I bought another ticket. I also knew it was my only one chance to meet Justin after those 4 years of supporting him on Twitter. Me and my friend (@Sabinkax3) tried to win a Polish contest for M&G but there was over 15k people who took a part in it. We started to fighting for our dream as our idol taught us and guess what, WE WON!! We won two normal tickets along with two meet and greets! I was crying jumping, laughing, dancing, running in circles etc. We decided to give those two extra tickets away to beliebers on Twitter who didn’t have money for the concert. Two days before concert, we were driving 7 hours. We were waiting in front of his hotel for almost 10 hours and we were freezing, as it was -22 C. Justin didn’t come out but we met Kenny and Dan so we were blessed. I asked Dan how Justin feels and Dan told us that he is sleeping and he is excited for the show tomorrow. We took photos and we went to our hotel. We were so happy that we met the crew! The next day we were so excited because that was SHOW DAY! We woke up earlier and we went to Justin’s hotel but he didn’t come out so we decided to go to arena and get our meet and greet bracelets. After that we were in queue to meet Justin. We were waiting and waiting because Justin was late and somebody texted me that Justin Bieber just tweeted me on twitter! I almost had a heart attack because Justin tweeted me, “See you soon” and in 15 minutes I was meeting him! I was lying on the floor because I was so shocked that Justin noticed my tweet! I was so LUCKY. When I saw Justin in front of me I couldn’t say a single word. It was a strange feeling because I actually couldn’t believe I was here with my idol. I said to him, “Justin you have tweeted me 1 hour ago,” and Justin looked at my beanie with my Twitter name and he was like, “Yeaah?” than I said, “I’ve been supporting you on twitter for 4 years,” and he said, “Thank you.” Then the security tried to move me but I asked Justin for hug and he opened his arms and hugged me. I had my whole world in my arms I also held onto his hand for a while! After we left I was crying so hard because my biggest dream came true. We were in the first row and we were crying and dancing the whole time! Once Justin stopped on stage and he looked into my eyes. I cant describe the feeling. The scenery on stage, Justin, dancers – it was just perfect. I have had the best 2 days in my life. Beliebers as you can see, dreams really come true. Justin wasn’t lying. Never say never and thank you Justin for always being there for your beliebers. I love you so much and I hope you come back to Poland soon. After meeting Justin Bieber in Paris on March 19th 2013 , I’ve decided to tell you guys everything that happened. If you watch my video, I hope it will motivate you and you will try your hardest to reach your dreams. Efforts, devotion, hard work – keep these words in mind! So many people told me to “give up already” and that I was “stupid” to think that I would meet Justin. I never stopped even though I’m one of the most pessimist people in the world. Don’t ever give up, no matter what. Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it. ” As cheesy as it sounds, you have to BELIEVE in yourself.
