Bobbi Kristina Brown will attend her mother’s funeral today in Newark, New Jersey. But sources say her future beyond this memorial is unclear. Insiders tell TMZ that many members of Whitney Houston’s family are pushing for the 18-year old – who was hospitalized twice in the hours following the artist’s passing last weekend – to enter a rehab program… but are waiting until after the funeral to express this hope to Bobbi. A scene outside of Whitney Houston’s funeral. Brown has reportedly battled her own substance abuse problems in the past, as she was supposedly caught snorting cocaine last year. The family wants to learn from the tragedy of her mother, allegedly, and convince the teenager to seek help before it’s too late. But they also want her to properly mourn the parent to whom she was so close first. It’s a complicated situation and we can all just hope Bobbi Kristina comes out of it okay.
Miranda Lambert was an outspoken critic of last Sunday’s Chris Brown Grammy lovefest , ripping CBS and the music extravaganza for Brown’s prominent role. She’s still not over it, calling out the R&B star in concert this week. Country star Lambert wondered aloud on Twitter why the convicted felon was featured on not one but two performances during the Grammy Awards. “Chris Brown twice? I don’t get it. He beat on a girl,” Miranda tweeted, adding “He needs to listen to Gunpowder and lead and be put back in his place.” “Gunpowder and Lead” is her song about a woman preparing to kill her abusive husband. She performed it in concert Thursday – with a message for Brown. Before singing, Lambert pulled a poster out of the audience reading “Take Notes Chris Brown.” “Get a good picture now, put it on Twitter,” she said. “I’ve been in a world of hurt with Chris Brown fans … but see, I have to speak my mind because where I come from beating up on a woman is never okay.” As she sang, Lambert added “So that’s why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun.” The Amherst, Mass., crowd went wild: Miranda Lambert Slams Chris Brown Brown has come under heavy criticism for his response to the “haters” as much as for the infamous 2009 incident in what has become a never-ending story. Should people just get over it and move on? Or is Miranda right in standing up against abusive men, and the Grammys? Choose a side in this feud:
Here is a new-ish 60-second bit of viral video that I wouldn’t mind installed in my living room: The first minute of every James Bond film, played on one screen divided into 22 parts. You won’t be able to take your eyes off it. As a bonus, find an older, longer complement that may finish the mind-blowing job commenced by the more recent video. Also: You’ll need full-screen and — if you’re at work — headphones for maximum effect. Turn it up! [Via Grantland ]
‘It’s almost in her honor that we think to soldier on,’ Fox executive says. By Kara Warner Loretta Devine, Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett and Lela Rochon in “Waiting to Exhale” Photo: 20th Century Fox Those of you who have been patiently waiting for a “Waiting to Exhale” sequel since falling in love with the original in 1995 might soon have a reason to “Exhale” again, despite the tragic death of co-star Whitney Houston . According to New York magazine’s Vulture blog, Fox wants to make something positive of the tragedy and is planning on moving forward with the project in honor of Houston. “I don’t think she would want it to [be shelved],” Fox 2000 Pictures president Elizabeth Gabler told . “It’s almost in her honor that we think to soldier on.” Gabler, who worked on the original film, said the feel-good movie about four middle-class African-American women dealing with love and loss in the suburbs was a ground-breaker. “This was the biggest barrier-buster for color lines,” she said. “[Audiences] practically tore the theater down; we couldn’t get them to leave. All these young women in their twenties and thirties wanted to stay and talk about what they’d just seen: Suburban women drinking Chablis who weren’t living in the projects or stuck in gangs.” The studio picked up the rights to “Exhale” author Terry McMillan’s sequel, “Getting to Happy,” and has reportedly placed the film on a fast track of sorts, making plans to hire new writers to work on the script under the supervision of the original film’s director, Forest Whitaker. Although nobody has been approached about taking over Houston’s role, Gabler mentioned the possibility of “Exhale” supporter Oprah Winfrey coming on-board either to produce or potentially be in the film. “We literally have not talked about anybody for that part,” Gabler said. “Forest, I know, is just … grieving. He’d been the one who was speaking with her, updating [Houston] on its progress.” Although Houston’s co-stars have not yet commented on their intentions to continue plans with the sequel, they did express their extreme sadness upon hearing the news of their friend and former co-star’s death. “I am so thankful to have been enveloped by the warmth of Whitney’s great talents. They were undeniable and vast,” Angela Bassett said in a statement. “Whatever her burdens, she has at last laid them down and picked up instead a crown. For truly, she was and will ever be for us — who were so captivated by her strengths — unparalleled.” “I am overwhelmed. I cannot wrap my mind around this. I missed the chance to see her at a party this past Thursday and when we spoke last she had just finished ‘Sparkle’ and she told me how excited she was to start production on ‘Waiting to Exhale 2’ with Angela, Lela [Rochon] and myself,” Loretta Devine said. “My prayers go out to her family and I am so honored for the time I spent working with her on ‘Waiting to Exhale,’ ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ and on ‘Boston Public.’ I love you, Whitney, and I will miss your easy laugh.” Share your condolences with Whitney’s family and friends on our Facebook page. Another day, another magazine cover for Nicki Minaj ! Young Money’s other big breadwinner covers the March issue of VIBE Magazine talks about readying Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and discusses how things done changed since Pink Friday came out. Peep a few quotes from the issue below: VIBE: You’ve said before that you didn’t really have fun recording Pink Friday. Nicki Minaj: I felt like I had something to prove to everyone who said a female rapper could not make an album unless she was talking about her pu$$y. And so I went above and beyond to prove that I could not talk about sex and not talk about my genitalia and still have a successful album. And I proved that. And now my time for proving things to my critics is over. I don’t really need to prove anything to anyone else anymore. Is it still hard to get your way as a woman in this industry? It’s not hard to get your way when it’s your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they’re not around. I don’t really like the sound of that, ‘cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I’m just very black and white when it comes to my business. There’s really no gray area. I really don’t have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It’s pretty much let’s get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn’t know me they’d probably assume I wasn’t smart or wasn’t business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it’s a different story. You were heavy on the fashion scene last year around Fashion Week with Anna Wintour. Do you feel like you’ve been accepted by the fashion world? Yeah, I realized more recently that even if it’s for a fashion magazine, I’m not gonna change who I am. When I was doing photo shoots last year, I kept on being told, “This is what we want your hair to look like and this is what we want you to look like,” and it really, really stifled my creativity. So the other day I was talking to a photographer, and he said, “You know what, I like your everyday looks so much better than when you do photo shoots for magazines.” And I was like, “So do I, you’re absolutely right.” I’d been getting more and more frustrated for a while. But I’ve made up my mind that when you see a Nicki Minaj magazine cover from now on, it’s really going to reflect me and it’s going to be something that I creatively had a hand in, because I don’t have to do it anymore. I don’t have to do things just to please people. It’s okay to do what I love because what I love, my fans love. And they’re really the only ones that should matter. The fashion world will have to come to Nicki Minaj, as opposed to Nicki Minaj trying to go to the fashion world. Source Continue reading →
Are you still unable to exorcise the frightening image of Nicki Minaj’s disturbing Grammy Awards performance of “Roman Holiday” from your mind? Matt Lauer has softened his position about leaving the Today show in December at the end of his contract … if NBC will pay up big time, that is. The sexy beast currently earns $17 million a year. Negotiations are currently ongoing that could net Lauer could as much as $30 MILLION a year. That will make a lot of people soften positions about retiring, we would have to imagine. But was Lauer’s change of heart motivated by something else? Some say Lauer changed his mind about leaving when network execs showed interest in Ryan Seacrest as a replacement … and got jealous. Others say Lauer wanted to re-sign all along and is merely using the end of his current deal and his plan to possibly leave as a tactic to get paid . Either way, he’s about to do pretty well for himself. Today makes roughly $450 million a year for the network – more than any other show on NBC – so in that context, $30 million for Lauer? Not a steal for NBC, but probably a worthwhile investment. [Photo: WENN.com]
