Soundtrack artist reviews November 18 entry in the ‘Twilight’ franchise for MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Andrew Cooper/ Summit Entertainment One of the perks of being asked to contribute to a soundtrack includes seeing the flick long before anyone else. For self-proclaimed Twilighter Christina Perri, getting a first look at “Breaking Dawn- Part 1” before it opens November 18 was a pretty big deal. “When I screened the movie, it was definitely one of my favorite days ever,” she told MTV News on the set of the video for her “Breaking Dawn” track, “A Thousand Years.” “I went with all these Hollywood people, and they were there for work, and I was there for work to get inspired to write a song, but I was an

Terror of Camp Crystal Lake joins Freddy Krueger on our list of horror icons: Vote for the deadliest in our poll! By Kevin P. Sullivan Jason Vorhees from “Friday The 13th” Photo: Paramount Pictures MTV News kicked off our Killer Halloween with Freddy Krueger on Monday (October 24), but now it’s time to take a look at one of his rivals: “Friday the 13th” terror Jason Voorhees. If you’re just tuning in, each day we’ll profile two of cinema’s deadliest serial killers and ask you to help create the ultimate ranking. Each villain will be ranked from 1 to 5 on a number of deadly attributes, so check back all week for new profiles and new polls, and help decide on the deadliest of them all. Head over to our Movies Blog poll to determine which horror icon has style to die for! Jason Voorhees Occupation : Mongoloid Weapons : Machete, the teenage libido Arch-Enemies : Swimming, campers, Freddy Kruger Profile : You know the saying: Hell hath no fury like a mongoloid serial killer with mommy issues. Jason Voorhees has more than a few things he should discuss with a therapist. His mother, a cook at Camp Crystal Lake, lost her mind when Jason drowned and went on a murderous rampage, killing the canoodling counselors and Kevin Bacon in the process. But Mrs. Voorhees met a very headless end, when one of the counselors decapitated her with a machete, thus handing the camp reigns over to her recently resurrected son, Jason. Wearing a hood over his head to mask his disfigurements, he laid low for a while, hiding out in the woods and a cabin near Crystal Lake. Jason eventually proved more than any sociopathic mother could have ever asked for, killing counselors left and right. He took up that iconic hockey mask in the third installment. While Jason is known for his slow gait, Detroit Redwings mask and machete, he could just as well be known for his many, many resurrections. Campers at Crystal Lake need to learn a simple equation: dead Jason plus electricity equals alive and pissed-off Jason. After two official deaths, Jason earned supernatural powers of regeneration that made him virtually indestructible. His newfound powers allowed him to be frozen and, in turn, to travel 400 years into the future in “Jason X.” Jason’s most recent resurrection came at the razor-sharp hands of Freddy Kruger, who pretended to be Mrs. Voorhees in order to revive Jason. The two eventually faced off, but neither emerged as the clear winner. Band’s latest album ‘keeps changing sounds,’ frontman Chris Martin tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Gil Kaufman Coldplay’s Chris Martin Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images It may be their best, biggest and boldest album yet, but Coldplay ‘s Chris Martin knows which adjective he would use to describe the band’s brand-new Mylo Xyloto : “It’s definitely a schizophrenic album … it keeps changing sounds,” he said. “That’s why we called it such a strange thing, Mylo Xyloto. Because we felt like so many people have already made up their minds about us, both good and bad, that we can sort of start again from scratch and try and reflect all the music we listen to and we love.” That sentiment is readily apparent throughout Xyloto, an album full of walloping electronics, soaring choruses and quiet, tender ballads. In a lot of ways, it plays very much like the band’s personal iPod, packing anthems like current single “Paradise” alongside artfully minimal instrumentals and hushed acoustic numbers like “U.F.O.” Even Rihanna shows up, lending her vocals to the track “Princess of China.” And that shuffling schizophrenia is due as much to the band’s taste as it is the ethos of frequent collaborator Brian Eno, a man who practically lives to break down boundaries. “Working with Brian, he was very much of the opinion that you should just be free to follow whatever you feel sounds best,” Martin said, “without worrying about having to talk about it in interviews and everything and explain it.” And, given all that, it’s somewhat fitting that Mylo Xyloto actually began life as a far different animal: a quiet, acoustic-based album. But as their songs began to grow, Coldplay quickly realized that their self-imposed parameters couldn’t contain their ambitions, so they scrapped them and started from scratch. And, not surprisingly, the end result is a record that defies convention — and, of course, definition too. “Very early on in the process of recording this record, we were playing a lot of acoustic instruments and we had it in our mind that we might try to record a small-sounding, intimate, reflective record,” drummer Will Champion explained. “And [a song like ‘Paradise’] came about, and it dawned on us that we couldn’t play it in that acoustic style. So we thought, ‘OK, we’ll finish this one and then we’ll do another record,’ and the realization came very quickly that we can’t really focus on more than one thing at once. “So we decided to put everything in one basket, and some of those songs from the acoustic thing survived — the song ‘Charlie Brown’ was originally in that format and ‘Us Against the World,’ ” he continued. “And I think putting all our eggs in one basket allowed us to kind of free everything up and allow the songs to dictate where they want to go.” What do you think of Mylo Xyloto ? Actress’ directorial debut, ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey,’ is a love story set during the Bosnian war. By Kevin P. Sullivan Zana Marjanovic in “In the Land of Blood and Honey” Photo: GK Films We all know Angelina Jolie , Academy Award-winning actress, sex symbol, mother and philanthropist, but today for the first time, the new for “In the Land of Blood and Honey” introduces all of us to Angelina Jolie, writer and director. There’s been talk about the project, a love story set during the Bosnian war in the early ’90s, for a while now, but there was little actually known besides a rough description of the plot. Brad Pitt even refused to give his review of the film when he spoke with MTV News while promoting “Moneyball.” The movie remained more or less a mystery with Jolie’s name as the only recognizable feature. That is, until the trailer hit the Web on Friday (October 21). In it, we get a look at a sweeping romance buried deep within the horrors of the Bosnian war and filled with suspicion and betrayal. The film stars Zana Marjanovic and Goran Kostic as two lovers caught in the middle of the conflict. The scale is surprisingly big, attempting to portray a full-out war, and features lots of gunfire and several large explosions. The trailer also makes clear the emotional weight tied to both the romance and its wartime backdrop. Jolie pulled the cast from the area, choosing unknowns rather than A-listers with Eastern European accents. Two versions of the film exist, one in English, the other in the native Serbo-Croatian. The film opens December 23 and, from the looks of the trailer and its release date, “In the Land of Blood and Honey” could spell another trip to the Academy Awards for the first-time director. It is unclear if the track will appear on Drizzy’s upcoming Take Care. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne and Drake Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Drake ‘s Take Care is finally complete. After a short delay that moved his original release date from October 24 to November 15, Drizzy handed the final cut into the label Wednesday and is now gearing up to promote his sophomore album. Last week, Drake dropped “Make Me Proud,” his new single featuring Nicki Minaj, and on Thursday night, another possible Take Care track hit the Internet. Though it wasn’t posted on his October’s Very Own blog like previous album singles “Headlines” and “Marvins Room,” the brand-new “The Real Her,” featuring Lil Wayne , made waves online . As of now, it is unclear whether the slow and sultry track, on which Drake sings throughout, will appear on Take Care. It begins with a start-and-stop piano intro, then about eight bars in, Drizzy starts to sing, “People around you should really have nothing to say/ Me I’m just proud of the fact that you’ve done it your way.” The song’s bridge connects “The Real Her” to Drake’s classic “Houstatlantavegas” from his 2009 So Far Gone mixtape. He softly croons, “Houston girls love the way it goes down, Atlanta girls love the way it goes down, Vegas girls love the way it goes down,” drawing a distinct parallel to the song that Drake said inspired the story line on Take Care. “It was a world that was very much real to me, but I created it in my mind. It was a world that, being a kid from Toronto, I used to look at from the outside and I used to be like, ‘Man that looks crazy,’ ” he told MTV News of the fictional city Houstatlantavegas. “All those strip clubs and all those nightclubs and the drinks and the girls and the fame.” In his quest to find something real in a superficial world of fast love and even faster heartbreak, Drake invites Lil Wayne to rap about his experiences with the fairer sex. ” ‘Cause to her I’m just a rapper and soon she’ll have met another/ And if tonight was just an accident, tomorrow we’ll recover,” Weezy spits in almost a spoken-word flow. The five-minute-plus song ends with no resolve, instead closing out with the hook, on which Drake charges, “You must’ve done this before, this can’t be your first time.” And the hunt for Ms. Right goes on. ‘There’s a lot of comparisons to her real life, and that’s not at all the intention,’ director Melina Matsoukas tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Mike Coppola/ Getty Images Rihanna has kept everyone buzzing this week about her video for “We Found Love,” a dizzying look at addiction. Rihanna and her main man in the video, played by British model/boxer Dudley O’Shaughnessy, are not only addicted to drugs, but also each other. The clip’s director, Melina Matsoukas, said the video is a warning about the dangers of those types of dependencies. “We love, obviously, to do provocative imagery … we always try to definitely push the limits,” Matsoukas told MTV News. “I think because, in the end, it’s not really at all about domestic violence. It’s really just about it being toxic, and they’re on this drug trip and that definitely plays a part, but I think it’s also about being triumphant over those weaknesses, and she leaves him. It’s not trying to glorify that type of relationship. The bad parts of it, that’s what you don’t want. In the end, her leaving, it represents her getting that out of her life. The drugs and the addiction and the toxic — that’s what brings her downfall and brings a lot of harm.” The video was originally slated to shoot it in Brazil then it got moved to Belfast, Ireland. Rihanna trusted her longtime collaborator and gave her full control to come up with just the right treatment. The singer’s new hair and its more natural color helped shape the mood of the video and “how being really natural is forward-thinking.” The pair then got supermodel Agyness Deyn onboard to read the monologue, and soon, all the pieces of the puzzle came together. “It makes you feel so good, like you’re lost in electricity or love or whatever it is, you’re lost in it,” she said about the track. “Obviously, it feels easy to put her in a club with some lights … so it was really trying to capture that feeling and also what she’s singing about.” Seeking inspiration from “real, raw movies” like “Attack the Block,” “Kids,” “Trainspotting” and “Requiem for a Dream,” Matsoukas wanted to capture all that darkness in the video. “[The song’s] totally rave-y… and that’s the feeling, just music rushing over you, and then I started thinking about drugs and addiction and love and how that’s an addiction,” she said. “We’ve all lived the ups and downs of being in a toxic relationship. It’s really about the obstacles of trying to let it go, but at the same time how great it makes you feel, so it’s hard to let it go. “Again, it goes back to a story that we all can relate to,” she continued. “It’s not Rihanna’s story; it’s her story in the video, and she’s acting. But everybody’s [as well]. Obviously, there’s a lot of comparisons to her real life , and that’s not at all the intention. It’s just that I guess people naturally go there because art imitates life, and it’s a story we all relate to and we’ve all experienced. Like, it’s based on my life; it’s based on her life; it’s based on your life, like, everybody.” The video, in between moments of truly real situations, is made a bit dreamier thanks to imagery including a scene where Rihanna vomits ribbons. “All of it was supposed to be a bit surreal, but still real,” she said. “So it was finding those little moments like the cigarettes, the ribbons and all this archival footage in there, and the projection stuff throughout it gives it that surreal thing and what’s going on in her mind and her purging of her partying ways or whatever the toxic relationship was. And that’s what that’s supposed to represent.” What did you think of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Rihanna

Chris Marrs Piliero opens up to MTV News about working with non-actor Jason Trawick in new video. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Jason Trawick and Britney Spears in “Criminal” Photo: Jive Britney Spears certainly had everyone talking when she dropped her steamy “Criminal” video . Sure, fans were talking about the sex and gunplay, but they were also going bananas over the appearance of Brit’s real-life boyfriend, Jason Trawick, who plays her criminally handsome beau in the clip. The idea to include Trawick in the video was all Britney’s, but director Chris Marrs Piliero wasn’t sure he was so into it. “When she first hit me up, she had a basic story in mind, and she actually always originally planned to have Jason, her boyfriend, play the role, and I wasn’t super stoked on that idea at first, actually,” he told MTV News. Most of his reservations were because Trawick isn’t a professional actor and he wasn’t sure his rookie acting skills would translate well in the mini-movie. “I wanted to make a really rad, epic video, and I definitely got the sense from her she wanted something really cool,” he explained. “And in my mind, I was just thinking then, ‘We really should not be using your boyfriend; we should get an actor.’ So, I mean, I didn’t say that, but in the back of my mind, I’m like, ‘I don’t like this idea at all.’ ” Trawick and his abs, however, managed to impress Piliero — and Britney loyalists everywhere. “At the end of the day, Jason killed it. That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, ‘Wow, he’s not an actor. This is going to be interesting,’ but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I’m a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, ‘I’m gonna make sure that you are awesome,’ and he was.” Piliero also worked with Spears on her video for “I Wanna Go,” and he was once again dazzled by her sassy acting skills. “Of course, Britney was rad,” he said. “She does a good job at nailing and doing the little acting thing. She’s cool at it.” What did you think of the “Criminal” video? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Britney Spears
Bruce Willis gets along incredibly well with ex-wife Demi Moore. Kelsey and Camille Grammer this formerly married couple is not, as they’ve been known to vacation together with their children and new significant others. These trips have included Ashton Kutcher, of course. Willis and Moore’s latest husband are pals, as evidenced by the 2008 photo below. Or they were pals, at least, prior to Ashton getting his Sara Leal on. “When Bruce found out he flipped,” an insider tells Britain’s Now magazine about Kutcher’s infidelity. “Bruce believes if you mess with someone he loves, you mess with him. He trusted Ashton not to hurt his family and is planning to give him a piece of his mind. When he finally catches up with him it won’t be pretty.” You have seen Die Hard , right, Ashton? What about Die Hard 2 ? Or Die Hard 3 ? Make a run for it, man. [Photo: WENN.com]
