After ‘DISconnected’ premieres Monday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, Vinny will take part in an MTV News special discussing digital abuse. By Eric Ditzian Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV News Long before Vinny Guadagnino was beating the beat on “Jersey Shore” (and beating off the attention of club-hopping ladies), he was a gawky kid getting picked on by high school girls. “I was really awkward-looking and I got bullied a lot — especially by the hot girls,” he recently told MTV News. “I was cool enough to sit at the popular table with the hot girls, but at the same time, I wasn’t the most popular kid at that table. They would make fun of me and it would really hurt me, because you don’t want the girls thinking that you’re a loser.” How times have changed. But Vinny hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be bullied, and he’s made an effort to use his celebrity to bring attention to the issue, taking part in MTV’s A Thin Line campaign to empower kids to identify, respond to, and stop the spread of digital abuse. On Monday, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the channel is set to premiere “DISconnected,” a film about online bullying. After the movie, Vinny will take part in an MTV News special to discuss these issues. Though he’s now a celebrity with almost 2 million Twitter followers, he still encounters digital abuse. Not long ago, he posted a YouTube video with some of his young cousins in the background and, as he put it, “some hater called a little girl in the background fat.” “I’ve learned not to let it affect me, but there are other people that can be affected by it,” Vin added. “That’s why I want to share a message with young kids that whenever someone is pointing the finger at you, they have a ton of problems themselves that are making them do that. The couple shared the stage as Bieber performed in Rio de Janeiro, his second night in the city on his My World Tour . As if debuting his Christmas single, “Mistletoe,” wasn’t enough of a present for his Brazilian fans, they got the chance to see the teen pop couple perform together. Bieber teased the performance in the hours leading up to his big show, tweeting , “Had a lil fun last night in RIO … show #2 in RIO is 2nite … got some very special guests with me 2nite. #Mistletoe.” He later added, “Hearing @CobraStarship killing it out there … almost time RIO … i got a big surprise tonight. #BRAZIL #myworldtour.” Footage from the performance shows Bieber walking offstage as Gomez comes out to sing her song “Who Says.” Toward the end of the song, Bieber returned to sing a few lines, and the pair embraced before Gomez exited the stage. Bieber later tweeted, “RIO!!! CRAZY!! thanks to @selenagomez for helping me do something special for the crowd. a duet never hurt nobody. WHO SAYS.” OK! magazine reports that Tuesday, the pair was spotted touring the city and taking a helicopter ride. On Wednesday night, Gomez was photographed backstage watching her boyfriend perform. Bieber’s next tour stop is Sao Paolo. While rocking South America, Bieber announced he’s releasing the official version of his single earlier than originally planned: “Thanks to all the love ITUNES is now releasing #MISTLETOE early … now coming #OCT17th !!! spread the world … we r going for our first #1!!” he tweeted. ‘I don’t know who’s featured on the records,’ Tricky Stewart admits about previously announced surprise guest. And while fans are pretty psyched to hear it, they also want to know the names of every person who made the final cut on the album, Under the Mistletoe . Bieber confirmed that the Band Perry, Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men and Usher are all contributing to the album, and teased that a huge surprise guest will also appear on the album. The rumor is that the big reveal will be Mariah Carey . Bieber’s producer Tricky Stewart said he has no idea who made the final cut. “I don’t know who’s featured on the records,” he told MTV News. “The records, as I know the records … Justin is the artist on the records. I know that he’s planning on doing things, but I have no idea what they are.” As Bieber puts the finishing touches on the album, which drops November 1, any additional production falls on Stewart’s production partner, Kuk Harrell, as Stewart moves on to other projects. “[I wouldn’t have to go back into the studio] because that’s Kuk Harrell’s neck of the woods,” Stewart said. “If something needs to be added, he’ll go in and knock it out and it’ll be fine.” Stewart noted that the album “seemed like a natural progression” for the teen star. “I think it just kind of made sense that I would be involved,” he said, having worked with Bieber throughout his professional career. “I think Justin doing a Christmas album is right on time … I feel that it’s almost necessary that he do a great Christmas album and it’s really, really good, too.” To get into the Christmas spirit months in advance of the holiday season, the team decorated their studio with all the appropriate Christmas accoutrements like Christmas trees and holiday scents. “Well, it’s different in the sense that we’ve been having Christmas and it’s not Christmas,” he said. “It looks and feels like Christmas except when we come out there’s no Christmas. Well first of all I can honestly say that I never thought I would be writing MyBieberExperience. Everything started on August 8th, when I bought my tickets for my first Bieber concert! My mom bought me the bieberfever.com membership so that I could get tickets in the presale! I got platinum 04 row 14 seat 10. I was super close! The concert was on October 1st 2011 in Guatemala (Central America). I flew to Mexico with my mom, my aunt, my sister, my cousin, and 2 friends just to see Justin! We went to the airport on September 29th with the hopes to see Justin there. We were there from 11pm until 2:15am and he didn’t show up. My mom didn’t know I went there so I got a big lecture and got grounded.. but I can say it was totally worth it! I made some new friends that sre beliebers we sung, danced, and screamed and talked everything about Justin and our lives too. The next day was the day of the concert, my mom and my aunt decided that we should go and eat breakfast to a part of Mexico called, “Polanco”. It is like an exclusive part of Mexico City and they’ve told us that Justin was probably going to stay there, they even gave us the name of the hotel so we were super excited! When we arrived at Polanco, we saw the hotel they told us was his. We were freaking out but jokes on us, that was not his hotel. We then saw his real hotel because the entrance was closed and there was so many police men. We convinced our mothers to let us wait for him and they went to eat breakfast. It was so much fun! We sang and screamed for Justin to come out but NOTHING happened. Nobody from Justin’s team showed up, but then a reporter showed up and interviewed me! I was so shocked and told her that I came from Guatemala just to see Justin. Suddenly Justin & Scooter tweeted that they could hear us from their room and that just made us screamed more! Suddenly Kenny showed up from the balcony and that made us scream more! Then Scooter showed at the balcony and I was screaming, “SCOOTER PLEASE BRING OUT JUSTIN!” It was awesome! We were freezing and starving but we didn’t care! When Alfredo Flores came out the entrance, everyone freaked out. I was screeching for him to come where I was. He took some pictures and when he came to me, he held my hand, he is so sweet! Then I asked for a picture and he gladly accepted. When I was about to take it, he noticed I was shaking so he smiled at me took my camera and took the picture for me. I said thank you he said it was no problem. We waited until 2:30 and then we started noticing there was more movement with security in the hotel. We started guessing Justin was about to come out and at about 3:30, Justin showed at his balcony and everything went crazy! Everyone was screaming, taking pictures, taking videos, and he was waving, blowing kisses, smiling like really smiling and laughing I took a lot of pictures and saw Pattie! My mom told us to leave before he went out because if we didn’t, we would be stuck there and we would be late for the show. And you’ll never guess what happened next. We were right after Justin’s car on the way out. We were like following him, but we were not because we both had to go the same way! We were like, “ OMG WE ARE RIGHT BEHIND JUSTIN BIEBER’S CARS!” They passed right next to us and we started screaming, “ WE LOVE YOU JUSTIN!” and then they were next to us again! We rolled down our windows and started making hearts with our hands, we are very sure that they saw us but didn’t scroll down their windows because of Justin’s safety. Some people of his staff even recorded us and right after that, Scooter tweeted about how they were in the streets of Mexico and that they’ve seen some true fans out there and everything. We are 90% sure that the ‘true fans’ were us, after all we were the only ones paying attention to the black vans! Then the concert. Big Time Rush opened right before Justin and they were amazing! When Justin came out singing Love Me, I started crying. I couldn’t believe it. I have been waiting for that moment since 2009 and I was finally there seeing my favorite singer, seeing him so close to me! He is so hot in person and so skinny! I can honestly say that last night was the best night of my life. People always told me that I was never going to see Justin live. I know I didn’t meet him but just seeing him there so close, hearing him live, seeing him dance, nobody knows how much that concert meant to me. Justin’s music has helped me so much, through tough stages of my life, it was amazing hearing those songs live. As you know, Justin shot his music video for Mistletoe in Franklin, TN, which is about an hour away from where I live. At first, my mom had told me that I wasn’t allowed to go, but she ended up giving in that night and said we could go for a couple of hours. (Even though in the end, we stayed til 5 a.m. haha!) We got there around 10pm and were so shocked at how close we were to him! After he shot every few scenes, he would scream at us and ask how we liked each one. Then he came RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, like no joke, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, and sang Jingle Bells to us through the police car’s speaker. It was CRAZY! Here is the video! After a few hours, it started pouring down raining and a lot of people left. Even though it was rainy and Justin was filming an inside scene for about 2 hours, about 30 dedicated beliebers stayed on my side of the street to wait. During that time, Justin’s crew came out and talked to us. Kenny TOOK MY PHONE to get my personal Twitter name to follow me! Alfredo and Ryan also came and talked for a while! Around 3 a.m., Justin came out and shot the last scene where he was singing to Mistletoe in front of a car. I swear, he had to redo that scene at least 500 times! By the time he was done, I could probably repeat every single line of the song. When he finished around 4:45 am, we all celebrated. He came over to sign autographs and talk real quick, but couldn’t take any pictures because we all had to clear the streets by 5am! When he reached me, all I could say was, “I love you so much!!” I was in soo much shock! After he signed my phone case, he reached out to shake my hand and said, “I love you, too. Thank you so much for everything and your support!” I just wanted to break down crying at that moment. It’s honestly the best feeling in the world to finally meet someone that has impacted my life so much and been such an inspiration to me. I have been supporting him since before ‘One Time’ was ever out, and remember watching him on YouTube back in 2008. I just couldn’t believe it was all happening so fast. September 28 & 29, 2011 were definately the BEST two days of my life. But to be real.. standing there for 7 hours in pouring rain, running around like crazy, and going to school the next day with absolutely no sleep was SO worth it!
