Mockingjay has officially taken flight. Although this Catching Fire follow-up isn’t due in theaters until November 21, the folks at Lionsgate have revved up the PR machine nice and early with the following promotional image. It depicts the mockingjay itself, wings spread and on fire. “Check out the new logo for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1… and LIKE if you’re excited for #Mockingjay!” the official The Hunger Games Facebook page captioned the photograph. The third installment in a four-installment franchise will bring back all the favorites from the first two films, led by Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth , of course. With the quality of the second movie outdistancing the first – and with Lawrence continuing to rack up awards and awesomely hilarious moments in between each flick – there’s no telling just how high the box office for Mockingjay will soar. The Hunger Games has landed another Oscar nominee. With Philip Seymour Hoffman already on board Catching Fire in the key role of Plutarch Heavensbee, Lionsgate has confirmed that Julianne Moore will portray President Alma Coin in the final two installments of the franchise, Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2. The character is the stoic leader of Katniss and company’s rebellion against the Capitol. Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 will be released in November 2014 and 2015, respectively. Other casting items related to the film include: Natalie Dormer as Cressida . Stef Dawson as Annie Cresta. Evan Ross as Messalla.
Stef Dawson has joined the cast of The Hunger Games. The Australian actress will come on board the final two installments of this blockbuster franchise as Annie Cresta, the District 4 Victor and love interest of Sam Claflin’s Finnick Odair. Dawson is the second actress in the past couple weeks to be named to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2, as Natalie Dormer is signed up to portray the rebellious Cressida in the movies that are scheduled for release in late 20125 and 2016, respectively. Mockingjay will be directed by Francis Lawrence and – SPOILER ALERT! – follow Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, who leads a rebellion against the corrupt Capitol its leaders. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves with this casting news. Long before Mockingjay hits theaters, Catching Fire will come out on November 22, 2013. We cannot wait.
Luck is ever on the side of Natalie Dormer. The actress – best known for her playing Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones – has joined the cast of The Hunger Games and will portray Cressida in both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2. The character, who possesses many tattoos and a bald head, works as a film director and flees The Capitol to join the rebellion in the final two installments of this franchise. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 will be directed by Francis Lawrence and don’t come out until November 21, 2014, and November 20, 2015, respectively. Catching Fire , of course, will be released this November 22.
