Maria Menounos Eliminated From ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Despite Perfect Score

Remaining three celebrities — William Levy, Katherine Jenkins and Donald Driver — will continue competing for mirror ball trophy next week. By Kelley L. Carter Maria Menounos and Derek Hough on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC The truth is, anyone’s name could have been called to head home from ABC’s hit show “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night and it would have been a shock. On Monday night, most of the contestants scored well with the judges. Although opera singer Katherine Jenkins has been a top performer on the show all season, she made a few missteps in one of her Monday night performances — and subsequently beat herself up about it. So folks may not have been too surprised to hear her name called as this week’s eliminated dancer. Instead, it was one of the night’s top scorers who got the boot. It ultimately came down to TV journalist Maria Menounos and her partner Derek Hough and NFL star Donald Driver and his partner Peta Murgatroyd. Menounos was the one to go, despite having a near-perfect score on Monday night. The judges salivated over the Argentine tango she performed as her first dance, rewarding her with perfect 10s all around. For her second performance, she took on the jive, and the judges actually named her the winner of the night — and possibly the competition itself. When her name was called Tuesday night, Menounos said, “I learned so many things — how strong I was, to persevere … I want to thank everyone here. I want to thank Derek and my family and everyone who voted for us.” Next week, the remaining three celebrities — Latin heartthrob William Levy and his partner Cheryl Burke, Driver and Murgatroyd, and Jenkins and Mark Ballas will compete for the mirror ball trophy.

Howard Stern Debut Doesn’t Boost ‘America’s Got Talent’ Ratings

Despite the hype surrounding Stern’s debut, the show’s ratings are down more than 15 percent from last year. By Gil Kaufman Howard Stern Photo: MTV News Over the past week it has felt like Howard Stern was everywhere. The self-proclaimed “King of All Media” was doing his best to make that title sing in the lead-up to his debut as a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” by doing a rare publicity swing of talk shows and feature interviews. He was excited and he wanted America to be excited, and by the looks of the blanket ads, billboards and promotional stunts, NBC clearly thought that adding the controversial shock jock to the mix on the family-friendly show was going to be big news. Stern did his part
, delivering a warmer, fuzzier version of his outrageous radio persona on Monday night’s two-hour debut and earning almost universal praise
for his playful, personal touch. The ratings, however, were another matter. According to overnight figures from Nielsen, Monday’s show was seen by 10.3 million viewers and earned a 3.6 rating, which was solid, but meant that viewership was down 33 percent (from 15.3 million) and ratings fell 16 percent from last year’s debut (4.3). Stern spent a while on his SiriusXM satellite radio show on Monday tamping down expectations for the first night’s ratings, mixing a cocktail of his own self-deprecation with the cold-hard facts about the competition. According to Entertainment Weekly unlike last year, when “AGT” bowed at the end of May and was paired with the first season of “The Voice,” Monday night’s episode went up against the one-hour season finale of “How I Met Your Mother,” as well as the season finales of “Two and a Half Men” and “Mike & Molly.” Oh, and it also had to contend with the penultimate performance night on “Dancing with the Stars.” While the ratings may not have been the kind of slam-dunk success NBC was hoping for, Stern may have one less potential headache to deal with (for now). After lambasting NBC for hiring Stern for the show
, citing the broadcasting veteran’s more risqu

‘Dancing With The Stars’: Roshon Fegan And Melissa Gilbert Get The Boot

Chris Brown performed on show’s double-elimination night leading into semi-finals. By Kelley L. Carter Roshon Fegan on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC The “Dancing With the Stars” contestants were warned on Monday night that two couples would be sent packing on Tuesday, but that didn’t make the sting any less bitter. Chris Brown was the night’s performer, and after he ran through a new song from his forthcoming album Turn Up the Music, the remaining celebrities got the bad news. In the end, the first couple to get the boot was Disney star Roshon Fegan and his partner Chelsie Hightower. Fegan smiled through the announcement and said, “I am happy to add ballroom dancing to my super-duper dance moves.” Fegan actually scored pretty well on Monday night, earning 29 out of 30 for his individual performance. The judges told him that watching him perform was like watching a young Mickey Rooney. Fegan’s pleasant reaction to getting sent home was the exact opposite of that by the second celebrity to get the boot: actress Melissa Gilbert, whose dance partner was Maks Chmerkovskiy. She had to wipe tears away after her name was called. It was Gilbert’s 48th birthday, and the moment was emotional. Gilbert landed at the bottom of the leaderboard on Monday’s telecast, with judges telling her that her footwork was spotty. “I can’t even describe what a learning and growing experience this has been. It’s been a real blessing and a joy,” she said upon her departure. “Maks has been amazing. An incredible teacher. An incredible friend.” “DWTS” semi-finals begin next week, with the remaining four celebrities — Donald Driver, Katherine Jenkins, Maria Menounos and William Levy — in the running for the mirrorball trophy.

Sam Worthington Laughs Off ‘Titans’ Hair Controversy

‘I got more criticism about my hair than Jennifer Aniston did when she started ‘Friends,’ ‘ the ‘Wrath of the Titans’ star quips to MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan Sam Worthington in “Wrath of the Titans” Photo: Warner Bros. When previews began to play for “Wrath of the Titans,” the follow-up to 2010’s “Clash of the Titans,” the element of the trailer that got the biggest reaction wasn’t the mythological beasts or the battling gods, but the longer locks on star Sam Worthington’s head. Gone was Perseus’ anachronistic buzz cut from the original — a nitpicking problem for some who saw “Clash” — and in its stead was Worthington’s naturally curly hair. “I got more criticism about my hair than Jennifer Aniston did when she started ‘Friends,’ ” Worthington quipped to MTV News. With so much of the attention leading into the film’s premiere focused squarely on Worthington’s head, the actor told MTV News he isn’t too worried about those people’s opinions. “My brain goes, ‘If that’s the only thing you’re going to be focusing on, maybe you should get out more,’ ” Worthington said. Liam Neeson, Worthington’s co-star, offered some kind words about the change in hairdo. “His hair was good,” Neeson said. “The hair was good,” Worthington agreed. Within the fictional realm of “Wrath of the Titans,” the change in hairstyle makes sense for its own reasons. “The story jumps 10 years,” Neeson said. The sequel picks up a decade after the end of “Clash of the Titans.” Perseus is now a father and recent widower, and it isn’t long before his deadbeat dad Zeus comes a-callin’, asking for help once more. Still, Worthington continued to make light of the hairy discussion, suggesting that if the franchise were to continue, his hair options have no bounds. “It took Perseus 10 years. If we did another one, I’d just go longer. I’ll just keep going,” he said. “By the time you get to ‘Wrath of the Titans 10,’ I’ll look like Cousin Itt.” “And each hair is a demigod,” Neeson added. “Think about that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Wrath of the Titans.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Elimination: Martina Navratilova Sent Packing

After her jive, tennis superstar is first to get the boot from season 14. By Kelley L. Carter Martina Navratilova on “Dancing with the Stars” Photo: ABC One down, 11 more to go. There wasn’t much shock on Tuesday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” elimination show. No one wanted to be the first celebrity sent packing, and after the first nine couples were told they were safe, it came down to an unsurprising pair of duos: Landing in the bottom two were tennis superstar Martina Navratilova and her professional partner Tony Dovolani and pop singer Gavin DeGraw and his partner Karina Smirnoff. Before it was revealed who would be going home during the first elimination show of the series’ 14th season, the tennis pro said that much like when she had a bad tennis match, she was hoping that she could come back next week a victor. Turns out, she won’t have the chance. In her Monday night performance of the jive, she messed up from the onslaught of her routine, and her score suffered for it. “That was sad because I love your approach to the routine,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba told her. Head judge Len Goodman said during the first week of the show that he thought Navratilova was elegant and refined, but didn’t think her foxtrot from that first performance was “too careful.” The 55-year-old’s poor performance landed her at the bottom of the leaderboard. “It was an amazing experience. I wish it had lasted longer. I gave it everything I had, I just blew it yesterday. I wish everybody great luck,” Navratilova said after being told she was going home.
