Trayvon ‘s death was not in vain… Trayon Martin Scholarship Offered In Florida Via HuffPo reports: An Orlando auto group, law firm and black fraternity are among those offering $50,000 as a scholarship to four graduating seniors from Trayvon Martin’s high school in Dade County. The donors, including the Boyland Auto Group and Invictus Law Group, are to present the money to the Trayvon Martin Foundation and his parents tomorrow in Isleworth. The donors also include Delta Xi Lambda, a black fraternity based in Orlando, and Boyz-4-Lyfe, a group of long-time friends. The money goes to the foundation, which will divide it between four 2014 graduating seniors of Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School in Miami, where Trayvon was enrolled at the time of his death, according to a news release announcing the gift. Its purpose is to help minority teenagers, donors wrote. “We are doing what we can to make the world a better place by not being divisive but by uplifting our community through educational opportunities for kids who otherwise would not have the same opportunity,” the donors said in their announcement. Trayvon, an unarmed black 17-year-old, was killed Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford by George Zimmerman, a light-skinned Neighborhood Watch volunteer who had earlier called police, describing the Miami Gardens teenager as suspicious. Was the verdict fair? Black Teen Who Shot Baby In Stroller Found Guilty An African-American teenager has been convicted of murder in the killing of a 13-month-old toddler in Georgia. Via The Grio reports: De’Marquise Elkins was found guilty of shooting Antonio Santiago in the face at point-blank range in a botched robbery on March 21 in Brunswick. It took the jury took about two hours to convict the 18-year-old. He was convicted on all 11 counts, including two counts of felony murder and one count of malice murder. Because he was 17 at the time of the shooting he will not face the death penalty under the state law. Elkins now faces a life behind bars. Prosecutors say Elkins and an accomplice, 15-year-old Dominique Lang, stopped Sherry West and the older teen pointed a gun at her and demanded money before shots were fired. Lang testified against Elkins during the trial and said the older teen fired the weapon. The 15-year-old is to be tried later. Elkins’ attorney, Glynn County Public Defender Kevin Gough, said during the trial that it can’t be ruled out that “one or both parents” may have been involved in their son’s death. West has a history of mental illness and there were no eyewitnesses to the killing except West’s version of events. During the two-week trial the West’s adult daughter, Ashley Glassey, testified against her mother. She was uneasy West phoned her the day her brother was killed for advice on cashing in on his insurance policy. She also testified her mother’s account of what happened on the day kept on changing. The killing of Santiago on March 21 drew national attention and exposed simmering tension in the coastal city of Brunswick, with opinion sharply divided along racial lines. The court case was moved to Marietta because of the extensive publicity surrounding the case. At the start of the trial lawyer Gough objected to the racial makeup of potential jurors. After the verdict, Gough issued a statement that he plans to appeal. He told reporters the all-white jury could be one basis for requesting a new trial. “That was not a jury of his peers,” he said. Elkins’ mother, Karimah Elkins, was on trial alongside him and was found guilty of tampering with evidence but acquitted of lying to police. Do you think the teens were unfairly judged?

According to Mail Online A Tennessee woman is recovering in hospital after trying to hide $5,000 in cash inside her rectum and then trying to remove the money with a toilet brush and tongs. Bulls Gap resident, Christie Black, 43, allegedly stole the money from her boyfriend Bobby Gulley last week after she became fearful that he was going to split up with her. Transported to Hawkings County Memorial Hospital, Black was suffering from severe bleeding after her attempts to remove the cash failed and police have charged her with theft of over $1,000. At around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, a deputy from the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Gulley’s home after they received a complaint that his girlfriend was stealing from him. Gulley informed Sgt. Michael Allen that he had ‘set a trap’ for Black by putting two envelopes containing $4,000 and $1,000 in $100 in an old medicine bag which he put on top of his foosball table. SMH Waking in the night to find the bag missing, he saw that his girlfriend was awake and confronted her about the money. At this point, a frightened Black proceeded to vomit up a plastic bag containing partially dissolved pills. ‘He then asked her where the money was, and she admitted to him she’d wrapped it up and stuck it in her rectum,’ Allen stated in his report according to the Times News. ‘Black admitted (to Allen) to taking the money and medication because Mr. Gulley was going to kick her out and she needed money for a place to live.’ Sgt. Allen said that Black then tried to remove the cash with a toilet brush and tongs but failed. ‘She was bleeding severely and was transported to the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital emergency room,’ Allen said. ‘The wad of money was removed and collected as evidence.’ As of Thursday afternoon, she remained listed in fair condition at Holston Valley Medical Center. Stef Dawson has joined the cast of The Hunger Games. The Australian actress will come on board the final two installments of this blockbuster franchise as Annie Cresta, the District 4 Victor and love interest of Sam Claflin’s Finnick Odair. Dawson is the second actress in the past couple weeks to be named to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2, as Natalie Dormer is signed up to portray the rebellious Cressida in the movies that are scheduled for release in late 20125 and 2016, respectively. Mockingjay will be directed by Francis Lawrence and – SPOILER ALERT! – follow Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, who leads a rebellion against the corrupt Capitol its leaders. Donald Trump is being sued by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for $40 million, and not just because Celebrity Apprentice is still on the air. Seriously, though. Gotta love NBC. Donald Trump Sued For $40 Million The lawsuit claims that the real estate mogul’s Trump University deceives those looking to learn from the billionaire and his brand of business acumen. Between 2005-2011, Trump University swindled consumers into paying for a spate of expensive courses that did not deliver on promises, the suit alleges. The suit says that 5,000 students, many paying thousands, thought they would meet the Donald. Instead, they only got their photo taken with a cardboard cutout. Schneiderman argues that Trump promised free workshops taught by his knowledgeable, hand-picked instructors who were, in fact, nothing of the sort. The “free” workshops were really designed to BILK students to sign up for a three-day, $1,495 seminar where Trump would supposedly appear in person. Which, the suit claims, the Donald did not do. Those students were also pushed to sign up for a “Trump elite mentorship program” ranging from $10,000 to $35,000 a head, the suit alleges. “More than 5,000 people across the country who paid Donald Trump $40 million to teach them his hard sell tactics got a hard lesson in bait-and-switch,” Schneiderman said. “Mr. Trump used his celebrity status and personally appeared in commercials making false promises to convince people to spend tens of thousands of dollars.” Money, he says, “they couldn’t afford for lessons they never got.” Trump, through his attorney, has denied the charges.
