The Bachelorette Recap: It’s the Climb

The Bachelorette ran it back with another partially-contrived, unintentionally hilarious, uber-dramatic episode tonight on Memorial Day. And what an episode. Okay, it was pretty run-of-the-mill. But between some vintage Bachelorette cliches, a romantic date with Arie Luyendyk, Jr. , and some man tears, it had its moments. After two weeks of first impressions – some good, some not – the remaining men took another shot tonight, and man oh man, things started to get REAL. Real dumb. Follow this link for a rundown of The Bachelorette spoilers we know now, including the (alleged) final three. Then read on for THG’s +/- Bachelorette recap! After three weeks, it’s still cute that Emily’s a mom. Plus 8 , and Plus 4 more for the prospect of her looking as good as her mom does in her 40s. Chris and his serial killer eyes get the first one-on-one. Minus 5 for ABC not casting him as the villain this season. Kalon’s looks aren’t as terrifying. He’s even wearing the Dexter shirt! Plus 4 . Minus 70 for the obligatory, recycled building-climbing date and corresponding metaphors. It is not like love, life or relationships. Please, just spare us. Plus 7 for Chris saying she looks good in a harness though. You could see the wheels turning and Fifty Shades of Grey -esque images in his head. Emily tells Chris he’s cute. A LOT. Minus 2 . Chris actually is pretty mature for 25. Plus 14 , because he still doesn’t seem like stepfather material right now, but maybe he could get there. John sees Emily holding a football and is hoping for … a relaxed, chill day. Surrounded by a dozen testosterone-filled dudes. So chill. Plus 1 . Em tells her friends to put “y’alls detective skills to work.” Plus 9 for the accent. Minus 8 for one friend saying “here for the right reasons.” Wait … the guy with the egg is still on the show? Minus 5 . Wait, Stevie is still on the show? Minus 9 . One of Emily’s friends dubs Sean “the genetic gift to the world.” Plus 10 , as that’s kind of totally true AND when he talks, his stock rises! Ryan tells Emily he’d still love her if she got fat, he just might love ON her as much. Yeah. Quite the statement. Minus 16 , even in jest. We thought Jef with one F actually was one of the kids at the park. Plus 5 . Sean and Doug are dominating this group date, both with friend time and Emily time. Plus 11 . Everyone else is playing for third right now. Kalon McMahon is so that name-dropping, ass-kissing, pompous douche at the high school reunion who everyone dreads seeing. Minus 7 . Tony contemplates leaving and talks to his little boy in a touching segment. One clearly drawn out to eat up time in a two-hour episode that really could be condensed to 90 minutes or even 60, but nevertheless. Cute. Plus 5 . Emily and Tony break up so he can go home. Both seem content with the decision. If only all reality TV splits were so amicable. Plus 8 . Arie gets the one-on-one date and jets off to Dollywood. Emily could not be more excited … about Dolly, and maybe Arie too. Plus 5 . Wouldn’t you know it, Dolly Parton herself is there to provide a private concert! And some love advice. Who’d have guessed? Minus 3 . Dolly’s been married 45 years? WOW. Plus 45 . Arie’s probably texted that many girls in the time he’s been on the show. Player. Minus 5 if he’s truly Mr. There For the Wrong Reasons . Having dated (and lived with) a woman with two kids is only helping his cause, though. He’s Mr. Saying All the Right Things. Plus 6 . Plus 10 for Emily being so up front, all the time. Well, except when she’s trying to punk Arie, but points for that half-hearted effort. She’s cute. She’s not even funny but she’s cute. And honest. And self-secure, yet vulnerable. Kinda the whole package. Plus 15 . Think he’s as genuine as she is? That’s the open question. Wash . Whoa, first quasi-makeout of the season! Plus 10 . The already-awkward cocktail party time becomes three times more so after seeing Kalon’s glasses. What a schmoozer. Minus 10 . Is he essentially implying he considers Ricki a compromise of shorts? Minus 15 … and Minus 15 more for the condescending remark after. Then Alessandro actually calls it a compromise. No rose for you. Minus 20 . Did he not know who The Bachelorette was this season? Aww. Arie is there to pick up the pieces and make out with her again. So suave, and so well coached by the producers. Plus 4 . Sean is really giving him a run for his money, though. The kind words about Ricki make this guy the anti-Alessandro. Plus 13 . Kissing session #2! In one night! Plus 5 . Chris Harrison sighting! Plus 3 . Plus 18 more for Ryan calling Arie a “dainty” man and for the outtakes in which Alessandro admits he dated his cousin. No longer in the running after tonight: Tony (set free) Alessandro (booted) Stevie (not given rose) Shelly the egg (shattered) EPISODE TOTAL: +40. SEASON TOTAL: -105.

Nicki Minaj Asks Fans To Vote For Next Roman Reloaded Singles

Young Money honey posted three different singles polls on her website on Thursday. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded Photo: Universal It’s only been a little more than a week since Nicki Minaj dropped the clip for her Chris Brown collabo “Right by My Side,” but everyone’s favorite Harajuku Barbie is continuing her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded takeover and needs a little help in selecting her new singles. On Thursday night, Minaj’s website revealed three polls with various options from the sophomore effort. With Roman Reloaded crossing hip-hop and pop genres, Barbz and Kenz have quite a few Minaj stylings to select as their ideal singles. While the first race is between the more mellow pop cuts on the LP (“Marilyn Monroe,” “Fire Burns,” “Young Forever” and “Gun Shot”), the second battle includes tracks that bring out the rapper’s harder alter ego Roman (“Champion,” “HOV Lane” and “I Am Your Leader”). In the last poll, head Barbie has pitted three of her dance anthems against each other (“Pound the Alarm,” “Whip It” and “Va Va Voom”). Shortly after the website posting, Minaj also took to Twitter to urge Team Minaj to sound off in the fun, writing, “Take the poll!!! And leave your comments. Gonna read them now.” At press time, “Marilyn Monroe,” “Champion” and “Va Va Voom” appeared to have the majority of votes. Barbz and Kenz have plenty of reason to be excited, as they’ve been flooded with a string of new singles all year long. Even before the LP hit stores, they were treated to the frenetic “Stupid Hoe,” which saw the Young Money honey taking a cluster of jabs at Lil’ Kim. Strategically releasing cuts to appease her growing fanbase, Minaj went on to the album’s lead single, “Starships,” a RedOne-produced number that was clearly catered to the Top 40 dance craze. And as predicted, the magic worked when the song peaked at #5 on Billboard ‘s Hot 100. Soon after, the femcee balanced out the pop tune with the release of her ode to strippers, “Beez in the Trap.” Most recently, Minaj released the visual for her Chris Brown-assisted R&B jam “Right by My Side,” which also features a cameo love interest by none other than Nas. Regardless of the poll winners, Minaj is already performing many of the cuts on her worldwide Pink Friday Tour, which will hit the States in July. Laurieann Gibson, who serves as the raptress’ choreographer, spoke to MTV News recently about the trek, revealing that it’s something she’s “really, really proud of.” “I love [when] I heard Roman Reloaded. I loved her delivery. I love the way she flows,” Gibson told MTV News . “So the Pink Friday Tour is really good and it’s kind of like a glimpse back to what a real rap show is. It’s intimate but big at the same time.” What do you want Nicki’s next singles to be? Tell us your suggestions below. Related Artists Nicki Minaj

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Delayed to March 2013 for 3-D Conversion — and Maybe That’s a Good Thing

Just about a month before hitting theaters (and right on the cusp of its theatrical marketing campaign), G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been pushed back by Paramount from June 29 to March 2013 to allow for a 3-D conversion. But director Jon M. Chu and the studio had deliberately opted for filming in 2-D before the 11th hour shift. So why opt for 3-D now? Last year, Chu was looking at his filming options but swore he’d rather go 2-D than do a post-conversion: “If we do it in 3-D, there’s no way in hell I am dimensionalizing it. I mean, dimensionalizing can work if you have the time and you have the money. But studios don’t want to put in the time or the money, so what’s the point? There always going to shortcut you, so why put yourself there?” A year later, Chu spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the decision to forgo 3-D as a filming option: “It seemed like a natural thing, but I told them, ‘I know 3-D. This is what we need. If we’re going to do 3-D, we’re going to do it right.’ It had a certain price tag to it, and I was like, if you guys are down I’m down, but I do need more time to do it right. And they were about to do it but they cut it just a little bit short, and [I said,] “if you guys are going to cut it short there is no point. Let’s make a movie — let’s go for it and we’ll go all out. And we shot on film, super-35, and I thought this may be one of the last times I get to shoot on film, and it was actually kind of freeing.” Clearly someone somewhere rethought that choice, and now Chu has nine months ahead of him to complete a decent post-conversion on the film. Over at Deadline , Nikki Finke reports on why the 3-D landscape now might look a little more enticing than it did when Chu and Paramount were planning the G.I. Joe sequel. A studio source explained the move to Finke thusly: “We’re going to do a conscientious 3-D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally… Jim Cameron did all of Titanic ‘s 3-D in post — and look how well that movie turned out.” Here’s the thing: Post-conversion detractors might still cite Clash of the Titans and its infamously muddied conversion job as reasons to avoid the added process just to squeeze out more profit in release, and until very recently I counted myself in that camp. But one upcoming film that I caught actually made me rethink this position: Men in Black 3 , a post-converted 3-D offering that might actually help turn the tide for non-native 3-D. That film’s director, Barry Sonnenfeld, did a surprisingly good job demonstrating how one could pull off the post-conversion process given enough time/the right approach; MIB3 features some of the best post-converted 3-D seen so far, shockingly enough. Granted, Sonnenfeld was able to shoot in 2-D with his eventual 3-D process in mind — featuring camera work and visual gags designed specifically to be enhanced with 3-D — whereas Chu’s G.I. Joe 2 likely was not. So Chu has a challenge ahead of him… but it could yet work. G.I. Joe: Retaliation will now open on March 29, 2013. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

A$AP Rocky Addresses Kanye West Producer’s Criticism

G.O.O.D. Music producer Mike Dean ‘was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?’ A$AP Rocky says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman A$AP Rocky on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News When A$AP Rocky broke through last year with “Purple Swag,” he didn’t exactly scream NYC. Instead of producing a more-recognized New York sound, Rocky and his A$AP Mob drew from Southern influences. Rock’s slowed-down, syrup-drench swag was more Houston than Harlem — then again, that was part of its appeal. Still, Rocky’s crew has had its share of critics — most recently, a veteran dirty South producer. “We need some new H Town rappers to blow up. Why the f— there all these fake ass Houston knock off artists from up North and West,” Mike Dean tweeted Sunday. “I mean rep where you are from not us. We gotta stop this sh– ASAP!!!!” “He was just talkin’ subliminal about Northern people. You gotta look at it like even Bun B embraces us, and we look up to him too,” Rocky said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “Not only that, it’s love when we’re out in the H-Town, and on top of that, he was bumpin’ us. This Mike dude was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?” After the initial tweets, A$AP Yams responded to Dean in defense of his crew: “@therealmikedean. I respect ur work legendary [but] u def sound ignorant. The new generation is a melting pot of influences from everywhere. Get off that old head sh–.” Dean, who now works with Kanye West and produced a number of tracks on Watch the Throne , made his name with songs for Houston rap legends Big Mello, Z-Ro and Scarface. After some back and forth, Dean tweeted that he “wasn’t speaking on anyone in particular” and thanked Yams for keeping the H-Town movement alive. Yams joined Rocky on the “RapFix” couch Wednesday, saying, “You gotta realize, we’re a whole ‘nother generation. We didn’t just grow up on our sound regionally. We didn’t just have DJ Kay Slay mixtapes. We were 8 years old when Master P and Cash Money was coming out, so we still had that as an option. If you look at all the greats, they all just a mixture of everything.” Share your opinion about Mike Dean’s comments below! Related Videos A$AP Rocky Rips Up ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists A$AP Rocky

Nicki Minaj And Nas Seal ‘Right By My Side’ Video With A Kiss

Rap superstars get cozy in just-premiered clip, which also features Chris Brown. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj and Nas in her “Right By My Side” video Photo: Cash Money/Young Money/Universal Music Nicki and Nas —it has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? It’s no secret that Nicki Minaj has a flair for the dramatic, and on Wednesday (May 16), when she debuted her “Right by My Side” video on MTV, Nicki surprised many by casting the Queensbridge rap great as her leading man. The bright and cheery video opens with a pensive Nicki seated in a high-backed chair fit for a queen; her mind is clearly elsewhere, unaware of the camera’s gaze. Only a few seconds pass before Nas struts into the scene and the two lean in to share a smooch only to find their lives subjected to a rewind sequence before their lips touch. “It all comes down to this, I miss your morning,” Nicki sings on cue as the viewer is taken back in time. It’s all pretty rosy as the lovesick couple share deep conversation and an inside joke as Nas hands his honey a silver dollar, which she flips into a wishing well. The clip has all the makings of a Nicholas Sparks romance flick: There’s PDA, hand-holding, shopping trips and outdoor lunches. In one scene, Nas — who sports his trademark half-moon Caesar and big-framed 1980s-inspired glasses — surprises Nicki with a new car, topped off with a pink bow, of course. The reigning rap queen is so excited she leaps into his open arms. When Chris Brown shows up for his guest verse and duet-styled hook, he is set outside of the video’s story line, delivering passionate performance scenes but never interrupting the two lovebirds. Breezy is no doubt a superstar, but he sits as a third wheel on Nicki and Nas’ romantic ride. The vibe of the soft love song switches by the time the Female Weezy’s rap verse rolls in. It’s quite the verbal display as she sits beside Nas, wearing his hoodie and rapping in double-time of her own sexual prowess. “My p—y game so cold, that he always seem to come back/ ‘Cause he knows that it be a wrap when I’m riding it from the back,” she spits while wearing God’s Son’s oversized medallion around her neck. For the most part, the couple can’t stay away from each other, but there is clearly some separation between the two lovers, even if only for a brief, undefined moment. In the closing scene, a lonely and longing Nicki sits on a park bench under a full moon with a sullen look on her typically animated face. Her frown is quickly remedied when Nas pulls up besides his boo and takes a seat next to her. They first hug and then share a deep and sensual kiss that is sure to get the rumor mill spinning out of control. What did you think of Nicki Minaj and Nas’ kiss in the “Right By My Side” video?
