The Real Redistribution of Wealth

Wealthy Are Cashing in Huge, While Workers' Salaries Keep Shrinking Times are tough for workers in the U.S. where a recession has a stranglehold on much of the economy, but life is perfectly rosy for those at the top. The riches of the wealthiest North Americans grew by double digits in 2009, primarily from interest their money earned when it was invested in the stock market and elsewhere, according to a report by the Boston Consulting Group. Millionaires in the U.S. and Canada saw their wealth increase 15 percent in 2009, to a total of 4.6 trillion dollars, the report found. Worldwide, 11 million – or less than 1 percent of all households – were millionaires in 2009. They owned about 38 percent of the world's wealth or 111 trillion dollars, up from about 36 percent in 2008, according to Boston Consulting Group. About 4.7 million millionaires live in the U.S., four percent of the population and more than anywhere else in the world. Japan, China, Britain and Germany followed the U.S. in the number of millionaires. Their fortune is a stark contrast to the lives of more than 15 million people in the U.S. who are unemployed and searching for work, and the eight million more who are just getting by with a part-time job, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. More than two million more people were working prior to the recession but have now dropped out of the labour force. Apart from the newly unemployed, about 39 million people in the U.S. are chronically poor and do not have enough food to eat, according to the U.S. Census and U.S. Department of Agriculture. “The nation's jobs crisis is so catastrophic that, unless Congress acts on the scale of the New Deal, millions of Americans will experience extremely long periods of unemployment for many years ahead,” Lawrence Mishel, president of the Economic Policy Institute, told a panel of the Committee on Ways and Means recently. Not so for millionaires and the uber-rich. The uber-rich, those with more than 30 million dollars, are on the rebound. They spent more money in 2009 on fancy cars, yachts and jets compared to 2008, according to a study by Merrill Lynch-Capgemini. They bought fine art, expensive jewelry, gems and antiques, items that are likely to increase in value over time, so they can sell them later and make more money. The recession isn't hitting those at the top as it has workers. In fact, many wealthy people benefited from the stock market's ups and downs, said Mike Lapham, director of the Responsible Wealth Project at United for a Fair Economy, an NGO in Boston. story continues http://www.alternet.org/economy/147492/wealthy_are_cashing_in_huge%2C_while_work… added by: Stoneyroad

Snooki, Pharrell Williams, James Van Der Beek Share Their Teen Experiences On ‘When I Was 17’

‘You couldn’t tell me anything about it because I thought it was the coolest thing ever,’ Williams says of his black scooter on this week’s episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Snooki appears on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News Although Snooki, James Van Der Beek and Pharrell Williams took very different journeys growing up, when they were teenagers, each had memorable experiences driving around in their rides of choice. “Jersey Shore” starlet Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi reveals in the latest episode of “When I Was 17” that her boy craziness nearly ended her life. The reality party girl opened up about how she lost control of a four-wheeler after checking out an eye-catching, shirtless high school senior. “I noticed that I’m going into this bank [at] 20 miles per hour [and] ran into the bank. The four-wheeler tumbled three times,” Snooki recalled. “My girlfriend jumped off [and] skinned her knee. You could see her knee bone, and I got stuck under the four-wheeler. I couldn’t move anything just because I looked at this boy because his shirt was off.” Although not as dangerous as Snooki’s accidental off-roading, super-producer Pharrell Williams’ teenage shenanigans also involved tooling around on a beloved ride. “My scooter was a Honda Elite and it was black,” Pharrell explained. “You couldn’t tell me anything about it because I thought it was the coolest thing ever.” Longtime Virginia homey Pusha T (of rap duo Clipse) also remembered riding around with Williams. “He’d come and pick me up on this scooter, and we’d ride everywhere throughout the city.” Like Williams, actor James Van Der Beek remembered an attachment to a very treasured — if raggedy — ride when he was 17. “With the money I had made doing theater, I purchased, for $800, a 1986, candy-apple-red Hyundai Excel,” Van Der Beek said. “It had its own anti-theft device, which was that in order to start it, you had to pump the gas vigorously and do that at least three times,” the actor continued. “When I would turn corners, I would put my foot on the clutch, and if I didn’t rev the gas … it would stall.” “When I Was 17” airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV. Exclusive: Rick Ross’ Teflon Don Album Report

MTV News previews hotly anticipated July 20 LP, which finds Miami MC in rare form with lineup including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Diddy and more. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: Getty Images Rick Ross is in the moment. He’s reflective and he’s planning for the future — all on his new LP, Teflon Don , due July 20. Ricky Rozay has his lineup more stacked than the Miami Heat, with Jay-Z (“Free Mason”), Diddy and Trey Songz (“No. 1”), Kanye West (“Live Fast, Die Young”) in the rotation. But it’s Ross’ continued progression as an MC, the Carol City Native’s refusal to let his rhyme skills be overshadowed that really makes you take notice. As for the beat selection, it remains on par with 2009’s sonically superb Deeper Than Rap, with the Bawse using soulful instrumentation and club thumps to blanket his words. No I.D. gets shouted out for his beat on “Tears of Joy,” which co-stars Cee-Lo. It’s Church-like and soul-stirring as Cee-Lo goes to his roots with vocals worthy of a pastor’s pulpit. “To all the loved ones I leave behind/ At least they can’t see my crying,” Cee-Lo sings. “And I ask, but someone wants to be me, why?/ Done everything but ease my mind/ If you could read my mind/ My God, I’m scarred/ I got tears of joy.” “Last night, I cried tears of joy,” Ross raps on the record. “What did I do to deserve this?” ” ‘Tears of Joy,’ that’s a very strong possibility [to be a single],” Ross told MTV News. “That’s the record I’ve never done, [that] I’ve never recorded. It’s gonna be most definitely real strong. The way I wrote the record, it’s so emotional. I rhyme four bars then I gotta catch my thoughts. I start back rhyming, I say something I feel is incredible then I stop again. I start back up then I start again. I got records that I have no ad-libs on; I’m trying a lot of different things. I’m just excited man.” “Biggie Smalls in the flesh, living life after my death,” Ross later adds on “Tears of Joy,” before addressing his court battle with DJ Vlad , resolved earlier this year. “Five different lawyers, Lord knows I’m stressed / A punch in the face will get you 300K/ Ask Vlad, now he’s back to making minimum wage/ Another victim of my criminal ways/ I wanna walk in the image Christ/ But that bitch Vivica nice.” Kanye West appears on and produced “Live Fast, Die Young” . “Most definitely!” Ross told us in May. “It’s gonna be most definitely a club banger, but it has that edge to it. That’s how ‘Ye loves to make music, he loves to take it to the edge. That’s where we went with it. It makes you feel like if you had that one record the rest of your life to play, that’s it right here. It’s really gonna make you feel good. We both talk about seeing the pitfalls in our rearview [mirror]. It’s a feel-good record.” T.I., Erykah Badu and Jadakiss all line up beside Ross on “Maybach Music 3,” while Gucci Mane jumps on an extended version of the club banger “M.C. Hammer” and Raphael Saadiq lends his vocals to the last song on the album, “All The Money in the World.” “It’s funny man, the name of the record he’s on is called ‘All The Money in The World.’ It’s a record talking about how I wouldn’t trade my fundamentals for all the money in the world. I talked about people that’s no longer here: my father, a few of my friends. I talked about if I could see them again, what would I do? It was almost to that fact that I’ll sing for you. That’s what I did on the record.” “Turn off the lights,” Ross and Saadiq sing together. “Take a ride with me/ I wanna see you smile/ It’s a fantasy/ “La, la, la, la.” “Just to have Raphael Saadiq hold me down — ‘It Never Rains in Southern California,’ Tony! Cronyism by US Senate Candidate Dr Mike Beitler

Perhaps the biggest problem in America today is cronyism. Cronyism is big business in bed with big government. Big businesses buy influence through their campaign contributions, including political action committee (PAC) contributions. Small business owners and entrepreneurs do not have the money to hire professional lobbyists or to fund a PAC. Big businesses have the money to hire professional lobbyists and to fund PACs. The professional lobbyists hired by big businesses work to pass burdensome regulations to crush smaller competitors. The big business PACs make contributions to political candidates (mostly incumbents) in exchange for favors. Lobbying for big business has become a big business itself. One look at K Street in Washington, DC will give you an indication of the extent of this form of corruptio….. http://www.beitlerforussenate.org/posts/cronyism added by: shanklinmike

Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Inferno’ Role: Adult-Film Stars Weigh In

‘Lindsay will really be able to tap into Linda Lovelace because they might have a lot of things in common,’ Jesse Jane tells MTV News. By Brian Jacks Lindsay Lohan and Linda Lovelace Photo: Getty Images/ Hulton Archive While many movie studios have distanced themselves from Lindsay Lohan, the creative minds behind one project were eagerly working with her. Lohan was set to star in “Inferno,” a film chronicling the life of ’70s porn icon Linda Lovelace, and news that she’s heading to jail has already resulted in the biopic’s director bashing the actress’ 90-day sentence . But what does the billion-dollar porn industry think about Lohan’s embrace of one of their own? Before her sentencing, MTV News spoke to various figures in the adult-entertainment world to get an insider’s view on Lohan’s latest Hollywood exploits. Like Lohan, Lovelace courted controversy and faced an unraveling career, volatile breakups and drug convictions. And according to “Pirates” superstar Jesse Jane, that’s precisely why the troubled actress is right for the role. “The thing is, no one big in Hollywood would play [Lovelace] because it has to do with porn. That’s a taboo thing for actresses,” Jane said. “Lindsay, I think, will really be able to tap into Linda Lovelace because they might have a lot of things in common.” Both Jane and fellow star Chanel Preston agree that the movie will give Lohan the career bump she needs. “If she is able to play Linda well,” Preston said, “then I think people will really respect that she possibly used her own troubles to accurately portray an American icon.” Hollywood has rarely flirted with its steamier colleagues, with the Oscar-nominated “The People vs. Larry Flint” being the chief exception. “Inferno” producers are hoping they can tap into the same vein by telling the tortured tale of Linda Lovelace, whose breakout movie “Deep Throat” catapulted adult films into the mainstream consciousness. Both Jane and Preston agree that the story is ripe for gripping storytelling. ” ‘Deep Throat’ was such a huge movie and probably still the most talked-about [adult film] of all time, and starring in that really made her career,” Jane said of Lovelace. “I love that she was very open about liking porn and didn’t care about what people thought about it or her. That says a lot about her character, and I respect that.” Whether “Inferno” can move forward with Lohan remains in question, but she can count on the support of the adult-film community that she hopes to portray. “Maybe this will give Lindsay an opportunity to play a role that she relates to and hopefully that will, in turn, make for a great movie,” Preston said. Lil Wayne Is ‘Much Funnier’ After Detoxing In Jail, Fat Joe Says

Joe says he spent four hours visiting Wayne at Rikers, ‘just telling jokes, dying laughing, falling on the floor.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Shaheem Reid Fat Joe Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne has been in prison for approximately four months now, after being sentenced by a Manhattan judge to one year behind bars for attempted gun possession. But his actual prison term is 10 months, not a calendar year, and if he stays out of trouble (and has no more infractions for possessing an iPod), the Cash Money recording artist could be released from jail as early as November. In the meantime, Wayne has kept busy, blogging on his fan appreciate website, recording a verse for Drake’s “Light Up” and accepting visitors like Diddy . Fat Joe recently ventured to see Wayne in Rikers Island. The Bronx-bred rapper described his frequent collaborator as being in “great spirits” and said he’s operating well while detoxing from the codeine-laced drinks he so often raps about. “Lil Wayne, it’s such a shame,” Joe told MTV News. “He’s in great spirits. I love Lil Wayne; that’s like my little brother. He’s just the coolest dude on Earth. I tell you one thing, him not being high made me realize how much funnier he is. This guy has jokes. We were up in there for four hours, just telling jokes, dying laughing, falling on the floor. “He’s a beautiful dude,” Joe continued. “He did what he did. He had a gun on him, but people don’t really know how much of a great father that he is, great of a person he is, a friend, a loyal dude. He’s charismatic. It’s just sad to see him over there like that, but I’m pretty sure he learned his lesson, and he’s gonna be focused.” Once Wayne is released from jail in New York, the rapper will begin serving three years of probation, stemming from a 2008 arrest in Arizona , when authorities discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia and a firearm aboard the rapper’s tour bus. Do you think Lil Wayne’s music will be different when he’s released from jail? Talk about it in the comments. Christina Aguilera Sloppy as Fuck of the Day

Seeing X-Tina Aguilera in these pictures reminds me of when the lights go on at the stripclub and that all the money you just put into a lap dance with a girl you thought was delicate and beautiful, who you really believed when she said she was just paying her way through school, all went crashing down because she looked like a fucking zombie who’s skin was falling off her face from her serious meth addiction. That’s all I have to say about that…. Pics via Fame
