I t’s no secret that Black voter turnout was low during the 2016 presidential campaign. Part of the reason was Democrats taking the Black vote for granted, rarely hiring African-Americans at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and poor messaging. For the 2018 midterms, the Black vote was again expected to be key, as it helped power Doug Jones past Roy Moore during the Alabama U.S. Senate race. In addition, Andrew Gillum of Florida and Stacey Abrams of Georgia secured their Democratic nominations for governor. Now, one Democrat was putting his money where his mouth is. SEE ALSO: Texas Cop Shoots Unarmed Black Man For Entering His Own Truck Billionaire Tom Steyer , most known for his calls to impeach 45, was donating $1 million to an initiative to increase turnout among Black youth, especially in the 2018 midterm elections, Axios.com reported . Black Lives Rising works directly with Color of Change PAC and Black Futures Lab. Arisha Hatch, director of Color of Change PAC, said they are avoiding “a transactional engagement with Black voters.” They will focus on Black non-voters and Black irregular voters — meaning voters who voted for President Barack Obama but haven’t felt compelled to vote in midterm elections. “For too long, Black youth have been denied a seat at the table, but with the rise of young black leaders … a new era of inclusive politics is emerging,” Steyer said in a statement. Clearly, Steyer knows the key to winning elections is the Black vote. Let’s see if other so-called progressive millionaires and billionaires follow his lead. She was in a good mood.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! Please be sure to open and click your first newsletter so we can confirm your subscription. Email Submit Foxy had a wardrobe mishap. Bevy reported, “A designer sent her two shoes for the same foot. She was in 6-[inch] heel boots that would lace up to the knee . . . so she was kind of hobbling around, but we were talking and laughing.” Hours later it was reported that Foxy asked for vodka and was allegedly falling on people. via GIPHY RELATED: Foxy Brown Defends Russell Simmons After Sexual Assault Allegations Foxy was paid half the money to perform and after was going to get the rest, but she refused. Source: EMINEM / RAG & BONE / EMINEM / RAG & BONE While the world waits to see if Eminem conjures up the spirit of Slim Shady and responds to darts from Machine Gun Kelly , Ja Rule and maybe even Lupe Fiasco , he’s taking his time recording visuals for his true blue fans to enjoy. Just a week and change after releasing the video for “Fall,” Mr. Mathers comes through with a post apocalyptic-ish visual for the Joyner Lucas assisted “Lucky You” which features Em and JL rocking out to an audience of, well, we’re not sure. Do seem to be fans though. Future meanwhile gets artistic with it and in his clip to “31 Days” uses some puppet animation and cut out background scenes to get his point across. Source: LuxxBall 2016 Birthday Celebration for the Legendary Damon held at Stage 48 Featuring: Foxy Brown Where: New York, New York, United States When: 31 Mar 2016 Credit: Derrick Salters/WENN.com Foxy Brown is having a bad week, and her PR rep has spotted the jig. After allegedly swindling a promoter out his dough for a non-performance at a New York Fashion Week party, Lizzie Grubman has a resigned from her post as the rapper’s representative. Yes, we were shocked Lizzie Grubman was repping Fox Boogie, too. As for the party in question, where she was supposed to perform with Diddy’s son Christian, it sounds like Foxy was a mess. Reports Page Six : Brown allegedly “arrived to the party at nearly 2 a.m. f - - ked up. She was slurring and she refused to perform,” an insider told Page Six. VIPs including Tiffany Haddish, Winnie Harlow, Kelly Rowland, La La Anthony and Christian Combs were at the Blond for Smith’s after-party. We’re told Brown was going to perform with Combs and was in “great spirits,” hanging out backstage with “Page Six TV” co-host Bevy Smith. “[Brown] was very excited about the fact that she had the new single out with Nicki [Minaj]. She was in a good mood,” Bevy reported on “Page Six TV.” But spies further told us Brown was later requesting vodka and “falling all over people.” But wait, that’s just a tease of the struggle. Then again, the wobbling could have been due to a wardrobe malfunction. “She had a wardrobe mishap . . . [a designer] sent her two shoes for the same foot. She was in 6-[inch] heel boots that would lace up to the knee . . . so she was kind of hobbling around, but we were talking and laughing,” said Bevy, who did not attend the party after the show. We hear that at the bash, Brown refused to perform, and promoters are now threatening to sue unless she gives back the money. So Foxy Brown was wearing two left or two right shoes at the same damn time? Bruh. Grubman confirmed that she quit but didn’t offer any additional comment. The struggle is real. — Photo: WENN.com

Sami Drasin for The Hollywood Reporter Kenya Barris Reveals Why He Left ABC For Netflix Whew chile! Kenya Barris talked to The Hollywood Reporter and it might be one of the juiciest interviews we’ve read – like ever. Seriously. The drama is so real at ABC/Disney… We really wanted to cut and paste the WHOLE entire article but THR was generous enough to provide some key quotes. Much of the drama centers around ABC’s decision to shelve Barris’ episode about Trump, the NFL protests, and the Charlottesville attacks, but Barris also reveals his clashes with Disney exec Ben Sherwood, his thoughts on “monster” Roseanne Barr, and the anxiety of high expectations with a massive deal at Netflix: “I don’t know if it’s scary for Ryan and Shonda, but I’m fu**ing terrified.” Check out excerpts below via THR starting with all the drama over THAT infamous episode. Just for a better idea of what ABC opted to shelve, the episode centered around Johnson family patriarch Dre, played by Anthony Anderson, telling his infant son, Devante, a bedtime story that multiple sources described as a mixture of political allegory via an animated fairy tale about a character named The Shady King, and actual news footage of Donald Trump, the Charlottesville attacks and the NFL kneeling protests. “When you’re putting a baby to sleep, you’re trying to soothe whatever anxieties they’re having,” says Barris, speaking for the first time about the controversial episode. “So, this was about me trying to pat the butt of the country and soothe people.” The episode budget was increased beyond it’s usual $3 million or so cap to allow room for payments for rights and clearances for music and footage, including Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” which Barris personally met with Cooke’s goddaughter to secure. Barris hired a high-profile illustrator and Spike Lee contributed voiceover to the episode took its title (“Please, Baby Please”) and inspiration from a children’s book written by Lee and his wife. Sounds good right? Too bad we’ll never see it. What actually happened (THR Reporting): Executives at ABC, more than any other network, have been forthright about their desire for more red-state programming since Trump’s win — and with Barris’ latest episode, they feared they’d be alienating the very population they’d tried so hard to court. That Disney brass wouldn’t want to poke Trump himself just as the company was seeking Justice Department approval of its acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox is widely believed to have been a factor as well. Anthony Anderson, on ABC’s decision to pull the episode: “[Barris had] given his blood, sweat and tears to [the episode], which they had signed off on every step of the way — from the outline, to the script, to the table read, to the point where they actually spent the money and made the episode. And I don’t know what those conversations were, but we entered into this partnership with the understanding that we would be able to tell the stories that we wanted to tell.” Barris, on what went wrong: “I know there was some concern about partisanship; and the way the episode was angled and the balance in terms of some of the stories. On network TV, one of the things I’ve learned is that you have to talk about things from both sides.” Barris, on Bob Iger’s handling of the situation: “The boss doesn’t have to explain himself, but he explained enough — and he [did so] in a way that really gave light in a different way. And more than that, he spoke to me as a person.” Barris on Ben Sherwood, the man Iger put atop Disney’s TV assets: “The way that [Ben] chose to deal with me in this particular episode, I felt a way about it and I still do. He’d make it seem like it was an open environment but really it wasn’t, and those are things I see very clearly. Everyone wants to say it’s open arms, but just tell me it’s not and I’ll respect you more.” Barris, on why ABC & Barris mutually decided to scrap it after cuts: “What it ended up being, and I think the network would agree, was not a true representation of what we intended to do,” he says. “Because if it was, we would’ve shown it.” Welp… there you have it. Hit the flip for a few more photos and excerpts.
