Linkin Park Say ‘Iridescent’ Was A ‘Natural Fit’ For ‘Transformers’ Soundtrack

A Thousand Suns tune will be in third installment of franchise. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Audrey Kim Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda Photo: MTV News On the surface, it makes perfect sense that Linkin Park would contribute a song to the third installment in the “Transformers” film franchise, “Dark of the Moon.” Both the band and the film are known for their thunderous, metallic noise and post-apocalyptic vibe. Plus, LP were on the first two soundtracks and they clearly have a connection with director Michael Bay. But LP vocalist Mike Shinoda recently told MTV News about why the band offered up a remix of their A Thousand Suns tune “Iridescent” for the soundtrack to the summer blockbuster. “The ‘Transformers’ collaboration has been really fun for us. I mean, we grew up playing with the toys,” Shinoda explained. “When we first got approached on the first one, we said yes based on the idea of taking that thing that we loved so much and bringing it to life in a modern way. As it’s gone on, that’s still a big part of it for us.” The original “Transformers” soundtrack led off with the LP song “What I’ve Done,” and the companion CD to the sequel, “Revenge of the Fallen,” also gave LP the pole position with the tune “New Divide.” So when director Bay approached the band to contribute a song for the third film, Shinoda said the tune that came to mind right away was “Iridescent.” It’s been a fan favorite at live shows, even though it doesn’t have the kind of bombastic sound that you’d expect for the battling-robots flick. “We put out the record in the late part of last year and even though it’s never been a single up until this point, [when we played it live] you could really hear the singing pick up momentum during that song. It was just something that seemed a natural fit.” Though it’s less of what Shinoda called an “in-your-face” kind of tune, he said the somber, hopeful tone of the song appealed to both the band and to Bay. “We loved that part of it when we were in the studio, but Michael actually loved pairing it with the movie because there’s something that he feels it speaks to about the story line.” Do you think LP’s “Iridescent” will fit well into the “Transformers” movie? Blake Lively ‘Thrilled’ To Be Part Of ‘Green Lantern’

‘I’m actually a really big comic book movie geek,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Blake Lively Photo: Getty Images Actress Blake Lively is perhaps most recognizable from her role as spoiled rich kid Serena Van Der Woodsen on the CW’s steamy teen soap “Gossip Girl.” However, in just a couple of months, Lively will be seen by a whole new audience via her leading-lady role as Carol Ferris alongside Ryan Reynolds in “The Green Lantern.” When MTV News caught up with Lively during a “Green Lantern” event at CinemaCon , we asked if she considers herself a fangirl or whether she would be lining up to see the highly anticipated comic book movie adaptation if she weren’t in it. “I’m actually a really big comic book movie geek,” Lively revealed. “I didn’t read comics ever. I’m not a boy; I don’t know if you can tell,” she joked. “I was saying I never wanted to be an actor, so I would watch these superhero movies and come out and want to crawl up walls or do these karate kicks or fly or whatever it is.” Lively went on to say that she never thought she would be in a comic book movie and that when she found out she landed the part, she was as giddy as a schoolgirl and hoped she’d get to do a lot of stunt work. “For me, I was like a kid when I found out I got this [role]. I was like, ‘What kind of stunts am I going to do?’ I was thrilled to be a part of it,” she said. “I’ve always loved these kinds of movies. I do think, I know everybody says this, but I do think it’s different.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Calls ‘Transformers’ Gig ‘A Roller Coaster’

‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ star talks at CinemaCon about working with director Michael Bay. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Photo: Getty Images Now that we’ve entered the month of April, it seems justifiable to start hyping this summer’s potential blockbusters. Not that we haven’t been already, but it feels like the big summer movies are just around the corner — one of those being the highly anticipated “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” MTV News caught up with the franchise’s new leading lady, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, recently at CinemaCon to discuss her experience on the film and getting caught up in director Michael Bay’s workaholic web. “I’ve seen the last two movies, so I kind of knew what I was getting into, but obviously not at all as well,” Whiteley said of being a bit overwhelmed by the big movie experience. “It was a crazy opportunity that was handed to me, and I spent seven months making the movie with a great cast and a great director, and it’s been a roller coaster of a lifetime for sure,” she said. “I’m still on it, I don’t know if I’m going to get off anytime soon.” Regarding Bay, Whiteley described him as a “character” with lots of energy: “I think throughout my whole career, I’ve never seen anybody work so hard in my whole life,” she said. “He’s literally done these ‘Transformers’ movies for six years now. As cast, we do the filming for seven months, then he goes into the edit room and edits it for six months, then he comes out of the edit room and promotes it, and by the time he’s finished that, he’s prepping the next one,” she explained. “It’s amazing to see how dedicated he is to these films.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Tyrese Recalls Ignoring His Earliest Critics On ‘When I Was 17’

The ‘Transformers’ star describes getting ‘gonged’ on this week’s show, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. By Sterling Wong Tyrese on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News He may be a big-time Hollywood star now, with roles in upcoming blockbusters like “Fast Five” and “Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon,” but it turns out model/actor/singer Tyrese’s talents were not always appreciated. In this week’s “When I Was 17,” Tyrese confesses that he was once “gonged” while performing on his high school stage.+ “My music teacher would do these ‘gong’ [talent] shows, and basically, if you got up [onstage] to sing and you were horrible, then somebody would run up and hit the bell,” the star explains. “I remember I was in the middle of singing this Brian McKnight song, and somebody ran up and hit that sh– loud and it went gong!” Brandy, who’s a good friend of Tyrese, jokes, “I think Tyrese’s natural reaction was, ‘Are you serious?!’ ” His shocked reaction to the sound provoked much laughter from the audience. And even though the gong meant he was supposed to get off the stage, because of the support he received from the girls in the crowd (no surprises there!), he kept on going. “I finally had a conversation with the girl who hit the gong. I was just like, ‘Yo, man, why did you do that?’ And she was like, ‘Don’t get mad at me! Everybody told me to hit the gong, so I ran up and did it!’ ” Tyrese recalls. He was clearly not impressed with her answer. “I remember I gave her a dirty look, like, ‘Don’t you ever hit the gong again, OK?’ And I walked off.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Tyrese, Lupe Fiasco and Jessie J — airs this Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Victoria, David Beckham Announce Next Baby Will Be A Girl

‘We are over the moon,’ David says of baby’s gender at fan event. By Shawn Adler David and Victoria Beckham Photo: Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images She’s a style maven and a world renowned fashionista. Now former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is finally getting the final compliment for her closets full of high design: a little girl to share them with. Victoria and her soccer playing husband David Beckham announced that their fourth child will be a girl, according to a report originally on ESPN . Due in January, the child will join older brothers Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz. “Obviously, we’re very lucky to be expecting again, and this is the first time I’m going to say it: It’s a little girl,” Beckham told assembled Galaxy fans at an event for the Los Angeles based Major League Soccer franchise. “We’re still in shock. Obviously, having three boys, you kind of expect another one, so finding out a little girl is in there is surprising, but, obviously, we are over the moon. Our three boys are happy and excited, and Victoria is doing well.” The pair didn’t know the sex of the baby until very recently, with Victoria telling reporters in February that she would be happy with a child of either gender. “We know what to do with boys [and my other children are] excited about having a little brother to teach how to play soccer,” she told USA Today at an event to promote her new fashion line. “But, if it’s a girl, we’d be over the moon as well.” The former “Posh Spice” and her husband currently live in Beverly Hills, where the 36-year-old David is in the final year of his much criticized five-year contract with the Galaxy. Twice a runner-up for FIFA World Player of the Year, Beckham became the highest paid player in the league when he moved from Real Madrid to sign his deal in 2007. The couple married in 1999 after a two year courtship. Related Artists Spice Girls

Christina Aguilera Hit With Lawsuit

Suit alleges Sony Music paid wrong group to sample song for use in ‘Ain’t No Other Man.’ By Shawn Adler Christina Aguilera Photo: Denise Truscello/ WireImage Sorrows continue to come as battalions for pop superstar Christina Aguilera who, less than a week after getting arrested for public intoxication, may be back in hot water again due to a federal lawsuit filed against the singer and Sony Music by TufAmerica, according to TMZ.com . The lawsuit, filed in New York, claims Sony paid the wrong distributer for rights to the 1968 song “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut” by Dave Cortez and the Moon People, which Aguilera sampled for her Grammy winning hit “Ain’t No Other Man.” TufAmerica reportedly owns the rights to the song, which Sony arranged to sample through deals with Condigo Mysic and the Clyde Otis Music Group. TufAmerica is seeking to nullify other publishers’ claims to the rights, as well as punitive damages. The lawsuit comes at the tail end of a rough year for the 30-year-old diva, which began with the poor sales of her album Bionic and continued with a canceled U.S. tour , a flop in her big-screen debut “Burlesque” and a divorce from her husband Jordan Bratman . Aguilera’s woes got worse in 2011, with a now infamous flub of the National Anthem during the Super Bowl pre-game show, and an arrest on March 1 for public intoxication . “She was not capable of taking care of herself. … She was incapacitated, not belligerent, but just intoxicated,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department spokesperson Steve Whitmore said of the arrest in a press conference. Aguilera will not be prosecuted for the misdemeanor offence. “Ain’t No Other Man” was the lead single on Aguilera’s third album Back to Basics. For it, Aguilera won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Related Artists Christina Aguilera
