A new study says use of the morning-after pill in the U.S. is on the rise, especially among younger women … interestingly, teen lingerie sales are way up as well. Makes you think! A major government study has found that 11 percent of sexually active women recently used the morning-after pill, up from just 4 percent in 2002. One in four women aged 20-24 used the drug, compared with one in nine overall, among 12,000 females surveyed and aged 15-44 from 2006-10. The research showed that more white and educated women used the drug the most, usually because of worries that their other birth control method failed. Meanwhile, Hispanic and African-American women were more likely than whites to report using the drug after unprotected sex, the CDC concluded. Overall, about one in five women surveyed who had never been married had taken a morning-after pill, compared with just one in 20 married women. Of the women who had used the pill, 59 percent said they had done it only once, 24 percent said twice, and 17 percent said three or more times. Emergency contraception has been available by prescription in the U.S. since 1999, before regulators approved over-the-counter sales of it in 2006. While the number of women using regular birth control in general has remained steady, the use of patches, intrauterine devices and injections has grown.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) delivered his party’s response to President Barack Obama’s 2013 State of the Union address last night, and did a nice job. The Senator’s remarks were somewhat overshadowed, however, by the fact that at one point, he was seen awkwardly reaching for water in mid-speech. Marco Rubio State of the Union Response Before the clock struck midnight, there was already a #ThirstyRubio hashtag, various fake Twitter feeds (@Water4Rubio) and countless other memes. Among the more obvious: “Stay thirsty my friends.” Rubio and his team responded in kind with a Twitter photo (below) poking fun at the incident, which was pretty much all they could do after it went viral: The Senator’s interns might be sweating this morning after they left him out to dry (sort of literally), giving a long speech with no water easily within reach. Joe Biden and John Boehner had it right in front of them. Enough said. “I needed water, what am I going to do?” Rubio joked on Good Morning America Wednesday. “God has a funny way of reminding us we’re human.” On policy, Rubio didn’t embarrass himself in the least, compellingly talking about his working-class roots, his student loans, and his modest bedroom community. The 41-year-old Cuban-American rehashed familiar anti-Obama talking points about big government vs. free enterprise, and tax hikes vs. spending cuts. One interesting omission was the fact that he barely talked about immigration, a complex issue he has been extremely vocal about in the recent past. The young Republican has long been talked about as a possible presidential candidate in 2016; his name was floated as a V.P. candidate in 2012.
Two new posters for Spring Breakers feature Selena Gomez and James Franco… in very contrasting states of dress. First, Selena basically tells Justin Bieber to eat his little heart out, as she poses in a bright blue bikini that leaves little to the imagination. Next, Franco – who plays a drug dealer in the film – crosses his arms and exposes his gun. Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton was arrested on charges of DUI this morning, with new details pertaining to the incident making it even more embarrassing for the hitting star. According to the Thornton Police Department, the 39-year old was found stumbling out of a gas station, breath full of alcohol and lottery tickets in hand . Yes, lottery tickets. For a guy who once signed a $141.5 million contract. Helton “made spontaneous statements about drinking two igloo cups of red wine,” police say, and was booked on three counts of drunk driving. To the ball player’s credit, he was “respectful and professional” throughout the ordeal, authorities conclude.

A new Justin Bieber pot smoking scandal may be on the way. According to TMZ, new photos of the singer getting high are being shopped around the Internet. They feature Justin and Lil Za enjoying themselves some Mary Jane while outside a home in Los Angeles. Za is the same person who was caught driving Bieber’s Ferrari early this morning without a license. A few weeks ago, of course, Bieber was caught smoking up with Lil Twist, clearly holding a lit joint at a party. He later took to Twitter in response and promised to “be better.” TMZ has reached out to Bieber’s camp for a comment. So far, nothing. But do YOU have any, readers?
Lindsay Lohan just got her second half-sibling in less than three months! Michael Lohan and Kate Major have welcomed their first child together. In November, it was revealed that MiLo fathered Ashley Horn 18 years or so ago. The man is fertile, ladies and gentlemen! While Lindsay was booking it to court this morning in L.A., Kate Major went into labor at a Florida hospital. Son Landon Major Lohan arrived at 11:39 a.m. The stats: 19 3/4 inches, 7 lbs., 5 oz. Michael Lohan was with Kate Major – who he impregnated in violation of a restraining order against him last year – the entire time and cut the umbilical cord. It’s his sixth child, after Lindsay Lohan , Ali Lohan, Dakota (Cody) Lohan, Michael Lohan Jr. and Ashley Horn (by his former mistress Kristi Horn). Michael, Kate and Landon are all doing great. Congratulations to the happy couple!
