Somewhere, Ann Curry might be smiling right about now. Not only has The Today Show ‘s replacement of this co-anchor with Savannah Guthrie NOT resulted in a ratings spike, but the program lost to rival Good Morning America by over 300,000 total viewers during Guthrie’s debut week behind the desk. Moreover, according to New York Post sources, Guthrie has developed severe headaches as a result of her promotion. “She goes to a doctor two days a week for treatment of the migraines, and is required to wear dark glasses when she’s not on set,” said this Page Six insider . “The pressure of taking over after Ann’s execution is taking its toll.” The journalist is not expected to miss any time as a result of these injuries, and will most definitely be traveling to London with Today for the upcoming Olympics. She remains a trooper, saying the mole. “You would never been able to know anything was wrong by watching her at work.” [Photo: WENN.com]
When it comes to the dating scene, Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t be back, ladies. He is back! Witnesses tell TMZ that the ex-Governor was all over some 25-year old female at Bagatelle in West Hollywood Friday night, grinding up on his acquaintance and even swapping some spit. Alas, Arnold and this new gal pal left the establishment separately. As for Schwarzenegger’s divorce from Maria Shriver? Shelve those reconciliation rumors . Insiders say the legal split is most definitely happening, perhaps as early as this week. Moreover, Schwarzenegger is actually the one now pushing for it, with Shriver allegedly leaning toward a reunion with her cheating ex. We have a feeling she’ll quickly get over that, however. All she needs to do is rewatch Arnold’s performance as Mr. Freeze to understand why.
‘We might have to call it something different now ’cause that’s just so attached to ‘The Motto,’ ‘ Drake tells MTV News of Rick Ross collabo. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News Lord knows when fans will get that tag-team mixtape from Drake and Rick Ross , but when it does come, the project — which was once dubbed Y.O.L.O. — might get a name change. “That title has become so … it’s like an epidemic. So I hope by the time we finish it, it would still hold weight and substance,” Drake told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway of the mixtape title, which stands for “You Only Live Once.” “We might have to call it something different now ’cause that’s just so attached to ‘The Motto.’ ” What was originally slated as an iTunes bonus song on Drizzy’s Take Care ended up one of the biggest singles from his sophomore project. “The Motto,” which also features Lil Wayne, peaked at #1 on Billboard ‘s Rap Songs chart, and thanks to its hook, popularized the phrase “Y.O.L.O.” or “You Only Live Once.” “Now she wants a photo/ You already know, though/ You only live once/ That’s the motto, n—a, Y.O.L.O.,” Drake spits on the track’s hook. Both Drizzy and Rozay have confirmed they’ve already recorded a number of tracks for the tape, but the project is not complete. Ross believes the tape would be so big that it could actually be a retail release rather than a free download online. “It’s official, the music is most definitely official,” Ross told “RapFix Live” during an appearance back in November. “But, me being a boss, I’m trying to find a way that we could put that on the shelves for the world, baby. But it’s most definitely official.” What’s your favorite Drake and Rick Ross collaboration? Share your pick in the comments! Related Videos Drake’s ‘Road To Paradise’ Related Artists Drake Rick Ross
Brooklyn band unveils new album with a thoroughly badass teaser trailer. By James Montgomery Derek E. Miller and Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells Photo: Getty Images When it comes time to reveal a thoroughly badass album title, there’s really no other way to do it than with a thoroughly badass teaser trailer. And that’s exactly what Brooklyn bashers Sleigh Bells just did, premiering an ominous, thundering clip for their new album … which is called Reign of Terror. The teaser opens with a scene of the Bells’ Alexis Krauss sitting at a vanity mirror, very seriously combing her hair (while wearing a Marine Dress Uniform), then quickly switches to series of hectic, seizure-inducing live clips, interspersed with various shots of life-on-the-road ephemera (they apparently attended at least one LSU football game) and in-the-studio hijinks (Bud Light! Guns! A mirrored skeleton mask!) It’s all backed by a churning, chunky guitar track, which seems to hint that Reign of Terror is most definitely going to be a loud — if not slightly terrifying — listen. And while there’s plenty of visceral gristle in the teaser trailer, it doesn’t actually include a release date for the new album, the follow-up to Sleigh Bells’ 2010 breakout Treats (one could reasonably assume it’s due in 2012, however). The dynamic duo rode that disc hard, including a thunderous performance at the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards , and a collaboration with none other than Beyonc
‘All that is in the works, man,’ Prodigy tells MTV News’ ‘RapFix Live.’ By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Sway Calloway Rick Ross Photo: Spiff TV As Mobb Deep prepare to roll out their Black Cocaine EP in November, followed by their ninth, self-titled album at the top of 2012, Prodigy and Havoc are looking to expand their horizons with a series of new collaborations . One artist the Queensbridge duo are particularly keen to work with is Rick Ross . During Wednesday’s episode of “RapFix Live,” Prodigy told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway that he has already reached out to Ross for a feature. “All that is in the works, man. We like Rick Ross,” Prodigy said. “I’mma be honest: We come from an era where longevity and consistency is key, and in the beginning, I ain’t really see that in him. Then while I was locked up, he was dropping more and more music. I was like, ‘Damn, I’m starting to like this dude.’ That’s when I was like, ‘We need to holla at son and do some music with him.’ ” After wrapping up a three-year prison stint for weapons possession in March, Prodigy said he headed directly to G-Unit’s NYC offices, where he met with 50 Cent — who signed the group to G-Unit in 2005 — to discuss the collaboration. 50 Cent and Rick Ross have a notorious beef , which hit fever pitch in 2009 when Fif launched a full-scale attack against Rozay on his blog ThisIs50.com. “The first day I came home, I went to the G-Unit office and told [50 Cent], ‘Listen, Mobb Deep needs to start doing songs with everybody. We need to start reaching out to people even if we got little conflicts — people like Rick Ross, people like Lil Wayne , everybody that we respect and we like their music — and start doing songs with them.’ ” 50 Cent’s answer? “He was like, ‘Yeah, you right.’ ” Prodigy didn’t talk specifics about his intended Rick Ross collaborations, but during an earlier episode of “RapFix Live,” the Bawse himself confirmed that fans could expect a Mobb Deep collaboration soon. “I respect him most definitely, as being a Boss,” Ross said of Prodigy. “When he was released, he gave me a call a few days after that. We spoke on the phone maybe once or twice, and it was a genuine conversation, us just touching bases. We most definitely put a record or two on the table, and just to be frank, I was always a fan of the homie, HNIC.” Are you looking forward to a Mobb Deep and Rick Ross collaboration? Dear Marc Anthony: you are a complete and utter moron. Jennifer Lopez covers the latest issue of Glamour and let’s just say that if her ex-husband didn’t regret letting her go before, he most definitely will now. Yowza! Lopez is reportedly dating Bradley Cooper and while she doesn’t mention him by name in the magazine’s interview, the singer does make it clear that she’s ready for love again. “I think I’ve finally learned the biggest lesson of all,” she says. “You’ve got to love yourself first. You’ve got to be okay on your own before you can be okay with somebody else. You’ve got to value yourself and know that you’re worth everything. And until you value yourself enough and love yourself enough to know that, you can’t really have a healthy relationship.” Amen, J. Lo. We wish you the best of luck on this journey, and we encourage many more cleavage-based spreads in the future.
You cannot outrun the grunting, galloping grindhouse siege that is Conan the Barbarian — especially its marketing campaign, which barrels ahead today with a new UK trailer spotlighting a certain character who is most definitely not Conan. Behold: Grumpy Stephen Lang!
The Bawse says Diddy, Bun B turn up in clip for Albert Anastasia EP track; hints Spike Lee may direct ‘Live Fast, Die Young.’ By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Rick Ross has been busy building visuals. At the top of this week, the Bawse and director Parris completed production in New York City on his video for street banger “Blowin’ Money Fast (B.M.F.)” with the likes of the Lox, Bun B and Diddy showing up to set. Ross plans to shoot two more clips soon: one for “MC Hammer,” and the other for “Live Fast, Die Young,” off the upcoming Teflon Don. “Shout out to Spiff TV,” Ross said this past Saturday at Atlanta’s Philips Arena. He’d just come offstage, after performing at Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash 15 concert . “Spiff [is directing] ‘MC Hammer’. We haven’t shot it yet, but shout out to MC Hammer. We talked a couple of times. We just putting everything together,” Ross said. “I think it’s gonna be real cool to make sure he’s in it. I think it’s mandatory that Hammer bless the screen man. Look out for Parris — we shot the first half of ‘B.M.F.’ in Carol City [and] Little Haiti,” the Miami MC said of the Florida backdrops. “Everybody, they just gonna come [show] respect for the streets, the movement is feeling good.” As for the video for the Kanye West-produced “Live Fast, Die Young,” Ross is thinking bigger budgets and an A-list director. He recently took to his Twitter and posted a photograph of himself and Spike Lee, hinting that he and one of Brooklyn’s finest may be teaming up soon. “What I actually tweeted — and you should actually follow me @rickyrozay — when I was in Hawaii, me and Kanye did a different kind of record and it may take a different kind of director. It was me, up in the middle of the night reflecting. It was an actual picture [from when] Spike came out to my birthday. I had a private get-together in Miami. Spike came out, we discussed a few things. It’s one of those things [that] I call speaking it into existence. I feel once I put something in my mind, I can accomplish it. Shout out to the big homie F. Gary Gray. I can’t commend him enough. We pulled that off with ‘Super High’,” Ross said of landing the Hollywood director for the visual. “Whoever would have thought? It’s something that’s most definitely possible.” While the bearded MC is looking forward to the “Live Fast” video, with whoever may sign on to direct, he said it was important to keep his priorities straight. “First and foremost, we gotta release the record,” he smiled, referring to “Live Fast, Die Young.” “It’s real close. I’mma tell you that. Thanks to everybody for the support on ‘Super High.’ We about to crack top 10 on that. I told myself, once I crack top 10 with the first record, I was gonna come with that next big one. It’s feeling like in the next week or two, we could be coming with it. It’s something I’m most definitely anticipating, all the pieces to the project fell into place. July 20, Teflon Don in stores.” After seeing Ross’ Hollywood-style “Super High” video, are you eagerly anticipating more clips? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)
‘It’s definitely something to watch when you have the munchies,’ she tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sway Calloway Katy Perry in “California Gurls” Photo: Capitol There will probably be many good times to watch Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” video, though Perry herself has one particularly interesting suggestion. “It’s definitely something to watch when you have the munchies. … It’s all edible,” she told MTV News. “[Plus,] Snoop is in it.” She’s right too. Judging by the sneak peek we saw a few weeks back, Snoop most definitely is in the “California Gurls” clip — along with marshmallows, candy canes and a whole lot of confectionaries too (most of which are used to cover up Perry and her backup dancers). All in all, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty sweet affair, though, to be honest, there’s not a whole lot about the video that reminds us of California. But, according to Perry, that was sort of the plan all along. “We named it ‘Candyfornia’ instead of ‘California,’ so it’s a different world,” she said. “It’s not just like, ‘Oh, let’s go to the beach and throw a party and then shoot a music video!’ It’s more like, ‘Let’s put us California Gurls in a whole different world!’ ” In keeping with that spirit, even though the song big-ups the beautiful ladies from the West Coast, Perry isn’t about to let her East Coast girls go unloved. In fact, the way she sees it, “California Gurls” can be a bicoastal anthem — you just have to wait for the weather to change in the East. “The boys always dream about dating a California Gurl … just because we’ve got the sun shining 365 days a year,” Perry laughed. “And I love New York girls. I think they’re hot, and I think they have a lot of attitude. But I’m telling you, when it comes wintertime, they’re all gonna be singing ‘California Gurls.’ ” Are you excited for the “edible” video? According to multiple sources, there’s no longer any question over whether or not Charlie Sheen will spend time in jail for his Christmas Day assault against wife Brooke Mueller. The troubled actor is most definitely headed to the slammer. Sheen is prepared to agree to a plea bargain that will include approximately 30 days behind bars. “Charlie intends to go to court on June 7 [to] plead to a misdemeanor and immediately begin serving his 30 days in jail,” said an insider. “With good behavior, he could end up doing 15 or so days.” Let’s all hope Charlie Sheen gets up close and personal with fellow inmates in a very different way this month. Incredibly, Sheen had the option of avoiding prison and accepting probation – but he actually deemed probation too risky, which is basically a case of the star admitting that he can’t remain out of trouble. The actor will go to Aspen next Monday, enter a no-contest plea to third degree assault and have his felony menacing charge dropped. In the end, for allegedly holding a knife to the throat of Mueller, Sheen will receive a pay raise from CBS and spend about two weeks in jail. Ain’t justice grand for celebrities?
