MTV Movie Awards’ Best Kiss Must Be ‘Powerful,’ Robin Thicke Says

‘You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,’ crooner tells MTV News. By Fallon Prinzivalli Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Summit Entertainment The Best Kiss award at the MTV Movie Awards is arguably the fans’ favorite category to vote on. For the past three years in a row, the honor has been bestowed upon “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for their smooches as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. This year, they’re up against some hefty competition: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in “The Vow” and, their biggest opponents, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games.” While the winner is anybody’s guess, we’re wondering which couple deserves the award. There’s no one better to answer our question than Robin Thicke, who’s managed to croon his way into the hearts of many ladies. The musician tells MTV News that the Best Kiss award should go to the most “powerful” smooch. “You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,” the “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” singer said. “The kiss is the moment when the strings come in, and all of the danger and the anger and the frustration and the loss — the kiss becomes redemption. It takes you out of purgatory and into the gates of heaven. A kiss has to be that powerful, in my opinion.” If fans honor Thicke’s definition when they vote, it sounds like Hutcheron and Lawrence could take home the coveted golden popcorn. Their characters, Katniss and Peeta, are in danger while they’re stuck in a cave, she could lose him if he dies from his injuries, and he’s frustrated and angry that she wants to head into the bloodbath of the Cornucopia to save him. With a single kiss, all that tension is released. Sounds like they’re a shoe-in, right? You decide! The power is in your hands. Russell Brand Has ‘Only Love And Positivity’ For Katy Perry

‘I still love her as a human being,’ MTV Movie Awards host tells Ellen DeGeneres. By Jocelyn Vena Russell Brand and Katy Perry Photo: Charley Gallay/ WireImage Russell Brand has only the kindest words for his pop-star ex, Katy Perry. The actor chatted with Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show airing Thursday (May 17), and when asked about the split, Brand said that while they are no longer together, he still loves and respects her. “I still love her as a human being,” the comedian said. “But sometimes when you’re in a relationship, I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was very happy to be married with her. She’s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her. “You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life,” he added. “Sometimes things are just different and then you have to just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and with each other with any situation.” Brand and Perry announced their split in December 2011, after a year of marriage. During the interview, he added that she’s “a person I still consider to be beautiful. … I have nothing but positivity for her. She is [an amazing person].” The actor/comedian is now poised for a busy June. Brand is set to host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , which will air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This marks the third time he’s hosted an MTV awards show, having hosted the Video Music Awards in 2008 and 2009. And it seems that his signature cheeky humor will be in full force at the show. “MTV Movie Awards incorporates two of my favorite things: movies and awards. If somehow group sex could be involved, it would be the greatest night of my life,” Brand said. In addition to his MTV Movie Awards hosting gig, his new flick, the big-screen adaptation of “Rock of Ages,” opens June 15. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! Kristin Stewart Thought She Was A ‘Badass’ … Until ‘Snow White’

‘I hurt myself, but it was fun,’ she tells MTV News of going toe-to-toe with Charlize Theron in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal ” Snow White and the Huntsman ” has moviegoers excited for a number of reasons, but few have gotten as much attention as Kristen Stewart ‘s transformation into a full-on action star. During “MTV First: Snow White and the Huntsman,” Stewart and her onscreen nemesis, Charlize Theron , recalled what it was like having to battle each other and their wardrobes. When MTV News’ Josh Horowitz asked what factors led to Stewart joining the film, Theron offered up an explanation of her own. “Kicking my ass?” Theron said. Stewart couldn’t help but agree. “She was signed on for a while, so I was like ‘Charlize? I’ll definitely do it.’ ” When Stewart first signed on to the film, her previous experience with action led her to believe she could do it all. “It’s funny too because I became such a baby on the movie. I was scared of so much that I didn’t think that I was going to be,” she said. “I tasted little bits of action in other movies, and I thought that I was such a huge badass. I was like, ‘I love it. Honestly, I just love how it makes you feel. It feels real. You get to actually do it, and then at the end, you’re not like I faked it.’ I faked a lot. It was hard. I hurt myself, but it was fun.” The epic showdown between Snow White and the Evil Queen turned out to be an exhausting shoot for both Stewart and Theron, who eventually teamed up to make filming a little easier on themselves. “By day two, we kind of looked at each other and were like, ‘We don’t need to start this scene from the beginning to get into it. What’s the shot? Oh, we’re already on the ground? No, no, no, we’ll just be here on the ground,’ ” Theron said. Though their fights took a lot out of them, the metal costumes ended up being even more harmful. “The costumes were actually more damaging than the fight sequences,” Theron said. “I was way more bruised from my costume than I was from her.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Russell Brand To Host 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Two-time VMA host will lead the festivities Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. By Kevin P. Sullivan Russell Brand Photo: Dave Hogan/ Getty Images Actor, comedian and two-time Video Music Awards emcee Russell Brand will be your host for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards when they air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The star of the upcoming film “Rock of Ages” will lead the fan-voted awards, which celebrate the year’s biggest films. “This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than ‘The Avengers’ and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out,” said Russell Brand. “MTV Movie Awards incorporates two of my favorite things. Movies and Awards. If somehow group sex could be involved it would be the greatest night of my life.” Jesse Ignjatovic, the executive producer for the show, spoke with MTV News about Brand and why he was a clear choice as host. “First of all, I think Russell’s the perfect host for this show,” said Ignjatovic, who previously worked with Brand during his two stints hosting the VMAs. “He’s a movie star. He’s probably one of the most brilliant stand-ups that I’ve seen in his time, and he’s a rock star.” And it’s that rock-and-roll attitude that Ignjatovic said will play an important role in this year’s show, which will highlight the ties between music and film with performances from groups like Fun. Ignjatovic added that Brand’s ability to riff off the unscripted moments in the show really excites him. “Whatever we end up creating around him within the show, he brings that danger thing as well,” Ignjatovic said. “We’d love for the show to live there, where you don’t know how he’s going to react to something in the moment. He’s so sharp and witty and on his game that that’s an exciting place to live.” But when it really comes down to it, what makes Brand the right host, according to Ignjatovic, is his comedy. “He has amazing comedic chops. He’s brilliant. He touches all of the areas that I think are important to us,” he said. “Add to that I think he’s one of the most professional people I’ve worked with in terms of comedians. He’s well-studied and very dedicated to his craft. I think we’re very fortunate that he said ‘yes.’ ” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! Could this finally be the year that “Harry Potter” takes home Best Movie, or are the odds in favor of “The Hunger Games”? Fun.’s ‘Some Nights’ Video On The Way, Xylophones And All

‘We’re filming it through the middle of the night,’ the Movie Awards performers tells MTV News of nocturnal clip. By James Montgomery Fun. Photo: Courtesy of Fueled By Ramen Last month, Fun. promised that the video for “Some Nights” — the follow-up to their chart-topping breakout “We Are Young” — would be “amazing,” which was a pretty big statement, considering they hadn’t even come up with a concept at the time. But now, all that has changed. Because when MTV News caught up with the guys last week to discuss their upcoming performance at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , they let it be known that not only have they settled on a treatment for the “Some Nights” clip, but that, yes, it is going to be as amazing as promised. “The ‘Some Nights’ video is coming; we’re going to start filming it next week,” frontman Nate Ruess said. “We’re going to try and get it out as soon as possible. It’s been really rough, because we’ve been on tour for the last two months, so we found a night off — that was all we get, and we have to rush to a show the next day — but I know we’re going to make the most of it, because the director has a brilliant concept and it’s something that doesn’t put as much pressure on us, other than just to perform and perform well, and he’s going to set an amazing scene around us.” And while Fun. wouldn’t reveal all the details about the video, they did let a few plot points out of the bag — namely, it’s going to be a nocturnal affair (“There are lanterns,” Ruess said) and there will most definitely be a xylophone in play. Other than that, though, well, you’ll just have to wait and see. “We’re filming it through the middle of the night,” guitarist Jack Antonoff said. “And Andrew [Dost] is going to be walking with a xylophone at some point, not to give away too much.” “Now, you’re giving away too much,” Dost laughed. “All right, fine, I’m walking with a xylophone.” The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
