Weekend Movie Reviews: Footloose, The Thing & More!

It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend at the box office and our partners at Movie Fanatic have reviewed all the new offerings in advance of their Friday openings. Let’s get right to it: The Thing : Not a remake but a prequel to the 1982 masterpiece by the same name. The Thing of 2011 depicts the dawn of the horror that ransacked Kurt Russell’s world, and terrifyingly so. Movie Fanatic’s The Thing review explains why. Footloose : Why remake a classic? Because Kenny Wormald is a terrific modern day Ren and Julianne Hough can sing, dance and act her tail off. Movie Fanatic’s Footloose movie review says the 2011 version is – believe it or not – a must-see. Footloose Movie Trailer The Big Year : Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson are birdwatchers in this unique buddy comedy about pursuing dreams, regardless of what the naysayers around emit. Follow the link for Movie Fanatic’s review of The Big Year . Texas Killing Fields : Based on a true story about a serial killer dumping bodies in a swath of desolate land in Texas, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Sam Worthington tasked with stopping him. Brennin Hunt: An X Factor Original

Brennin Hunt is a 26-year old model who said on The X Factor last night that he’s “the total package.” Not exactly the best way to endear oneself to an audience. But then Hunt stopped talking and starting singing, delivering a strong performance on an original track, always a bold step for any contestant to take. Simon Cowell was certainly impressed, saying he could turn Brennin into a major star. Do you see the same potential? Brennin Hunt X Factor Audition Among other performers we adored last night: Jazzlyn Little and Tora Woloshin .

Movie Reviews: 50/50, What’s Your Number?

A pair of much-anticipated films hit theaters today. What did we think of 50/50 and What’s Your Number? Both comedies succeed, albeit in different ways. Actor Seth Rogen and writer Will Reiser lived the experience portrayed in 50/50, at once a comedy about cancer (that actually works) and a poignant story. With Joseph Gordon-Levitt portraying Resier’s cancer patient and Rogen as his BFF, the pair combine to bring audiences an astounding character study. 50/50 Trailer Knowing that much of this took place in real life only enhances a movie of surprising depth. Follow the link to read Movie Fanatic’s official 50/50 movie review . Far less original but still entertaining is What’s Your Number? That’s not a question we’re asking, the punctuation mark is part of the title of this film starring Anna Faris and based on the book 20 Times a Lady . What’s Your Number? follows a Bostonian named Ally in her quest to reexamine her exes based on the belief – thanks to a magazine article – that women who have slept with 20+ men have trouble finding a husband. Ally’s number is 19. The plot is predictable but enjoyable thanks to Faris, who insights a laugh with merely a look, and co-star Chris Evans, with whom she enjoys fun chemistry. Fright Night Movie Review: Scary Good Fun!

If you are looking for vampires who embrace humans and even fall in love with them, Breaking Dawn opens on November 18. But if you’re in the mood for an old fashioned tale about a blood sucker with pure disdain for our kind, purchase a ticket for Fright Night . It hits theaters tomorrow and it sets Colin Ferrell loose as Jerry (yes, Jerry), a vampire who causes nothing but problems for Anton Yelchin’s Charley Brewster. Fright Night Trailer A retelling of a classic, the movie takes full advantage of its 3D status, according to our pals at Movie Fanatic, resulting in an intense pace and a sinister, enjoyable scariness that is missing from many vampire tales these days. The Change-Up Roundtable: Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman Switch Bodies, Get Raunchy

A movie about two characters who switch bodies isn’t exactly ground-breaking. It’s been done many times before. But two of the funniest men in Hollywood still jumped at the chance to star on The Change-Up and they explained why in a roundtable discussion this week: because the R rating opened up a world of dirty, fun possibilities. The Change-Up Trailer “It was fun to see this kind of premise – which is usually a PG premise – executed in such a hard way, in such an edge,” Ryan Reynolds said. “It was no-holds barred. It was the first script I’ve read in a long time where I cried laughing.” The Change-Up comes out on Friday. You can check out the official trailer above and read the full roundtable transcript at Movie Fanatic !

J. Lo Source: Marc Anthony Nailed Some Stewardess

The surprising Jennifer Lopez-Marc Anthony split continues to generate rumors regarding why the seemingly-happy couple is divorcing after seven years. Us ‘ cover story suggests infidelity was a concern – if not an overt reason – for the twosome, parents to 3-year-old twins Emme and Max, parting ways. At issue specifically? Anthony’s fling with a flight attendant. A source says that Anthony hooked up with a flight attendant he met aboard a private plane in 2009, and that for J. Lo, that was almost it right there. “Marc and Jennifer almost split up over it,” the source says. “Jennifer was going to leave him then, but Marc begged her to stay. They went to marriage counseling and she gave it another shot. He was someone she truly loved.” Although Anthony and the American Idol judge weathered that storm of infidelity, his jealousy over Lopez’s sex symbol status and successful career continued to drive a wedge between them – one they ultimately couldn’t bridge. Marc’s controlling behavior over his wife’s wardrobe and business endeavors – and his own unfounded paranoia – ultimately did them in. Very sad.
