The 21-year-old rapper was charged with marijuana and gun possession in Georgia on Tuesday, MTV News confirms. By Rob Markman Soulja Boy in Temple Police Department custody on Tuesday Photo: Splash News It was supposed to be a day of celebration for Soulja Boy , but whatever plans he had have been curtailed. On Tuesday morning (October 18), the same day the rapper’s “Soulja Boy: The Movie” DVD documentary hit stores, the 21-year-old was arrested in Georgia after a routine traffic stop and hit with multiple drug charges. MTV News has learned that the Atlanta MC has been charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Temple Police Department’s public information officer, Dana Rampy, confirmed to MTV News that Soulja Boy (born De’Andre Cortez Way) and four other individuals were arrested early Tuesday around 2:30 a.m. ET while driving west on I-20 in a black Cadillac Escalade. The arresting officer found marijuana, guns and cash in the car. It has been reported by other outlets that roughly $70,000 in cash was found in the vehicle, but Temple Police told us that they did not find that much cash, though they declined to disclose the exact amount. All five men were charged and are currently being held in Carroll County Jail in Carrollton, Georgia; they are set to go before a judge sometime today. The Temple Police Department expects the men to be released after bond is set and posted. Reps for Soulja Boy had no comment when MTV News reached out for a statement. “Soulja Boy: The Movie,” directed by Peter Spirer, looks back on how the rapper went from teen Internet standout to rap star. Darren Bousman ( Repo! The Genetic Opera ) has directed three Saw movies — a fact which the trailer for next month’s horror pic 11-11-11 makes a point to tell you. That pedigree, plus a handful of vaguely comprehensible images, shadowy scenes, a static shot of a statue, and (unintentionally) cheesy voice over tell you everything you need to know about the movie! Well, except for its plot. And who’s in it. And why anyone should care. Watch the teaser and stick around for more Buzz Break.
‘Twilight’ actress and ‘American Idol’ alum tweet about Sunday’s Malibu nuptials. By Jocelyn Vena Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed (file) Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The first 24 hours of Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald’s married life seem to be going quite well. The newlyweds took to Twitter to let their fans know just how happy they are after Sunday’s wedding. “Yesterday was the most magical day of my life…” the “Twilight” actress tweeted Monday (October 17), one day after she said “I do” to the “American Idol” singer. “Yesterday was the most amazing day of my life,” Mc Donald wrote , echoing his bride’s enthusiasm. “Everything was perfect. I’m officially a MARRIED MAN! Woohoo!” The couple married in front of 100 guests in Malibu on Sunday. E! News reports that “Idol” singer Stefano Langone played the reception, along with McDonald’s band, Grand Magnolias. McDonald also reportedly performed at the party. “Spy Kids” star and Reed pal Alexa Vega served as a bridesmaid at the festivities. “We couldn’t be happier!” the couple said in a statement after news broke of their wedding. “[We were] surrounded by our family and friends. We’re so glad this day has come!” The two began dating in April and got engaged just two months later. They announced their plans to marry at the MTV Movie Awards in June, where Reed was spotted sporting an engagement ring. “She’s amazing. It’s kind of one of those things you don’t expect,” McDonald gushed to MTV News earlier this year. “Like, last year I never would have thought I’d be getting married. She’s amazing. She’s the perfect girl. We fit each other. When you know, you know, and she’s the one.” The pair have been quite public about their relationship. McDonald plans to release an album tentatively called The Nikki Reed EP, and when Reed hit up the Teen Choice Awards in August, she was sporting Paul’s face on her nails and revealed that he was being quite the bridezilla . “He’s doing a lot of it, he is. He’s, like, taking control,” Reed said about McDonald’s part in the wedding planning. “He sits with his computer in between songs and is kind of on a roll with everything.” Leave your well-wishes for the newlyweds in the comments below!
‘Star Trek’ actor had dodged rumors before making revelation in New York magazine. By Gil Kaufman Zachary Quinto Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images For years, “Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto dodged questions about his sexuality, preferring to keeping his private life private and let his work on TV shows such as “Heroes” and movies like the recent “What’s Your Number” do the talking. Then, unexpectedly, he offhandedly outed himself in an interview with New York magazine, while discussing his starring role last year in the restaging of the early AIDS-era drama “Angels in America.” Quinto told the magazine that his eight-month role in the epic Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tony Kushner was “the most challenging thing I’ve ever done as an actor and the most rewarding”; he took on the grueling role of Louis Ironson, a character who walks out on his AIDS-stricken boyfriend. “And at the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.” Quinto, who has been outspoken on gay rights issues in the past, told The New York Times last year that even though blogs were full of speculation about his orientation, he preferred “not to feed the rumor mill with either substantiation or dismissal.” But the events of the past year appear to have had an impact on him and Quinto seemed comfortable at this point announcing his orientation. Thinking about how the last few months have seen gay marriage legalized in New York while also marking the recent suicide of bullied gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer , Quinto said, “And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves.” He was also glad to be in town promoting the financial crisis thriller “Margin Call” — the first feature from his production company, Before the Door Pictures — while hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters are camped out in New York’s Zuccotti Park . “The timing couldn’t be more impeccable for us to try to create a dialogue, which is exactly why we made the movie in the first place,” he said. While he’s in town to promote the film, Quinto said he planned to go down and see the protesters to get a flavor of the sit-in. “As a left-leaning Democrat, I feel a sense of resonance with their position,” he said. “But as a citizen of this country, I feel deeply unsettled that people are rising up in movements against each other. It feels like we’re missing the mark. … The bottom line is we’re all f—ed, and we’re all in this together.”

Robert Kirkman tells MTV News, ‘I don’t know how this movie doesn’t make 10 trillion dollars.’ By Josh Wigler Scarlett Johansson in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel Two days have passed since the first trailer for “Marvel’s The Avengers” burst its way online, and we still can’t get enough. From our own analysis of the trailer to commentary from assorted movie and comic book experts, we here at MTV News remain insatiable in our appetite for all things “Avengers.” It’s a good thing we’re not alone. Writer Robert Kirkman, creator of the “Walking Dead” comic books and executive producer of the AMC television series, is just as enamored with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as we are — though he does have a few bones to pick with the first trailer. Kirkman, who is celebrating both the arrival of his first “Walking Dead” prose novel and the return of the television series this week, sat down with MTV News to take a big bloody bite out of the “Avengers” trailer. See what he had to say in our video, and read on for more of his thoughts. Loki’s Arrival Tom Hiddleston returns to the Marvel Universe as the trickster god Loki, this time terrorizing not just Thor, but his brother’s new earthly companions as well. But there’s something about his arrival in this first trailer that Kirkman thinks is a little bit off . “Loki’s hanging out in [some kind of alien chamber], and I don’t know … there are guys showing up, and he’s in this thing that’s not quite a prison cell, but he’s not in Asgard,” the writer said. “He’s standing there, but he’s not really doing anything. Then these guys show up, and he’s like, ‘I’m going to stab you!’ And didn’t these guys know he was going to stab them? I don’t know!” Getting Ready As the threat facing Earth grows increasingly apparent, Agent Coulson asks his supervisor, Nick Fury, what they need to do next. “We get ready,” is Fury’s stoic reply — a reply that doesn’t sit right with Kirkman. “Look, I’m very excited about this movie, and I think this trailer is very good, but is there not a better line than, ‘We get ready’?” he said. “Like, ‘What do we do now?’ ‘Well, we get ready! We’re going to put our shoes on and go do some stuff!’ I don’t get that. I’m sorry. I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic movie, but I wish there had been a better line there, like, ‘We’re going to get these mother—-ing superheroes off of this mother—-ing planet.’ I don’t know. That would have been better … probably not appropriate, though!” Widow’s Pose Scarlett Johansson’s infamous pose in front of a massive explosion has had fans scratching their heads for some weeks now, and the “Avengers” trailer did little to explain her calm demeanor in the thick of the action. Kirkman, also confused, doesn’t seem to mind the shot: “There’s a thing exploding behind her, so clearly she’s in a fight or something, but she’s just standing there looking pretty — which is great!” Iron Man Sparkles in the Sunlight Even though most of the Avengers have had their chance to shine in their very own movies, there’s little debate that Iron Man remains the feather in Marvel Studios’ cap. Ol’ Shellhead is featured prominently throughout the “Avengers” trailer, often seen blasting off over the iconic New York City skyline. Kirkman was more than pleased to see the wealth of Iron Man action, so much so that he feels the red-and-gold hero could be put to good use in other movies. “I think you could put Iron Man in almost any movie, and I would go see it,” he said with a laugh. “Like, the new ‘Twilight’ movie. I’m not really into that stuff, but if you put Iron Man flying in the new ‘Twilight’ movie, I’m totally going to go see that movie!” Stark’s Facial Hair Still, if there’s one critique Kirkman has for Tony Stark, it’s the billionaire industrialist’s goatee. The eternally bearded Kirkman knows a thing or two about facial hair, and he simply does not approve of Stark’s look. “If you look at the way that goatee is designed, people are going to get that tattooed on their backs at some point,” he predicted. “It looks like some kind of weird tribal spaceship design or something. It irks me.” Rocket Launched Already sold on the “Avengers” trailer, Kirkman’s enthusiasm for the superhero flick only grew at the sight of Nick Fury wielding a rocket launcher. Easily one of the standout scenes of the trailer, Fury’s explosive appearance nevertheless struck Kirkman as a bit unnecessary — and a lot awesome . “You don’t need to have Samuel L. Jackson shooting a rocket launcher,” he reasoned. “That’s not necessary . This already looks like a good movie, and I’m probably going to see it anyway. But at the point that Samuel L. Jackson shoots a rocket launcher, I think to myself, ‘I’m probably going to see this movie twice .’ ” Hulked Out Another immediate selling point for Kirkman? The trailer’s final shot, which gives us our first look at Mark Ruffalo’s Jade Giant. “‘Oh, by the way, the Incredible Hulk is also in this movie.’ Which, to me, is ridiculous,” Kirkman said, laughing. “How much money do you want to spend on this movie? You got us! To add the Hulk on top of that, I don’t know how this movie doesn’t make 10 trillion dollars. I think James Cameron’s going to have a hard time topping this one’s box office when he comes back to do his next movie.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Avengers.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . ‘I had to eat a lot of pasta and get cinched really tightly into the corset and let the girls do the acting for me,’ she tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Milla Jovovich in “The Three Musketeers” Photo: Summit Entertainment Paul W.S. Anderson was proud. Sitting in a swanky London hotel earlier this month while promoting “The Three Musketeers,” the director happily recounted one critic’s opinion of his 3-D action-adventure and the quality of the performance of Milla Jovovich, who is not only one of the film’s stars but also his wife. “There was a review of the movie that said Milla’s cleavage is worth the price of admission,” he laughed to MTV News. “Cleavage in 3-D: It was what the medium was invented for.” Shortly thereafter, Jovovich was shocked — shocked! — in an interview to learn her husband was dishing such details to the press. “I can’t believe he told you that story!” she said with a smile. “That’s so embarrassing. I’m like, ‘Honey, you can’t tell people that!’ I’m trying to be taken seriously, and now my cleavage is going to sell tickets.” Whatever works, right? Though to be fair, “Musketeers” has a lot more going for it than some three-dimensional bosoms. Anderson’s flick is a swashbuckling affair that stays true to much of Alexandre Dumas’ classic tale, but introduces a whole lot of contemporary bling into the mix. So while you get fair maidens in corsets and swordfights galore, Anderson also delivers steampunk airships and 21st-century wit, all captured by 3-D cameras. At the center of it all is Jovovich’s Milady de Winter, a tough-as-nails woman who may look harmless but who will stab you in the back — or at least poison or otherwise maim you — if the opportunity for self-preservation or self-promotion arises. How does such a double- and triple-crosser survive in “Musketeers”? What Jovovich calls her “girls” certainly help. “I did have to prepare a lot to make my cleavage what it was,” she said. “I had to eat a lot of pasta and get cinched really tightly into the corset to get the effect and let the girls do the acting for me. Each one took classes. Stanislavski . I think the left one is more talented than the right.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Three Musketeers.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
With Rent’s Due, ‘It’s time for me to show ’em what south Memphis about,’ Zed Zilla tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Zedzilla Photo: CMG Records Granted, Yo Gotti has yet to release his first major-label album, but the Memphis, Tennessee, spitter is thinking big. While fans await Gotti’s Live From the Kitchen (which he hopes will drop before the year ends), the “5 Star Chick” rapper is ready to further the career of his artist Zed Zilla, who will drop his Rent’s Due mixtape later this month. “We from two different sides: north Memphis, south Memphis,” Zed told Mixtape Daily before explaining how he and Gotti met. “I had a show one day, he had his ear to the streets, came to my show. I rocked it, he liked what he saw … we been click-clackin’ ever since.” Zed has actually been riding alongside Gotti since his 2008 mixtape, Cocaine Muzik . More recently, the pair collaborated on Gotti’s “Fire That Bitch,” a humorous break-up song from Cocaine Muzik 6 . Next up is Zilla’s Rent’s Due with DJ Bigga Rankin. The tape features appearances from Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz and, of course, Gotti. The title is particularly fitting considering one of Zed’s rap aliases is “the Landlord.” “For me, with Rent’s Due, ain’t no way around rent; you gotta pay rent,” he said. “I’m here to collect rent. I been with [Gotti] for a minute, been around the world, did a lot of shows, now it’s time for me to show ’em what south Memphis about.” More than just his skills on the mic, Gotti made sure Zed Zilla was everything he claimed to be before signing him to his Cocaine Muzik Group record label. “First and foremost, you have to do your research and find out how close you is to that actual life you’re talkin’ about,” Gotti explained. “You could be the best lyricist or rapper or songwriter, if you ain’t mentally prepared to put in the work, it’s a waste of time. “When we done the research, [Zed] had all the ingredients that we were looking for,” he continued. “I think he could be the next one.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
‘One, it’s not a dance movie, and two, I think we really did it justice and made it our own,’ Julianne Hough tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images For some film fans who have precious, emotional connections to Kevin Bacon and the original “Footloose,” the release of the remake this week, starring relative acting newcomers Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald, has been met with some hesitation. Luckily, the stars of the Craig Brewer-directed retelling are fully aware of pressure to live up to the original, and they’re happy to help alleviate any fears fans may have by addressing the misconceptions they’ve heard along the way. “I’ve seen on Twitter a lot that ‘Patrick Swayze would be upset’ that we’re remaking it,” Ziah Colon said of a fear that attached the “Dirty Dancing” actor to the role Bacon originated. “I’d like to tell everyone that he wasn’t in the original, and if you are upset about that, you probably should not be upset that we are remaking it, because you know nothing about it. “I think that there is a lot of misinformation, and then there are people that are upset that it’s too similar and there are people that are upset that it’s not similar enough,” Colon continued. “It’s a fun movie,” she promised. “Go watch it. Have fun!” “We’re not gonna take your childhood dreams and just, like, wring them of any importance,” co-star Miles Tiller said. “We understand that it’s a very important film for people and that some of them saw it at an age where it really spoke to them. We’re just trying to give a new generation of fans this story. So you should be OK with that.” “Yeah, and wear comfy shoes, because after the movie, you’re gonna wanna dance!” Colon promised. Hough, MTV’s New Class Triple Threat , addressed a couple of other misconceptions she’s heard about the film. “[People] think that it’s going to be a dance movie, which it’s really not — the original was a drama with dancing in it — but also that it’s a remake that’s going to suck, because a lot of remakes kind of, you know, butcher the original one,” she said. “Those are the two misconceptions. One, it’s not a dance movie, and two, I think we really did it justice and made it our own but kept what needed to be there.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Footloose.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
We asked movie and comic book experts to analyze first official trailer. By Josh Wigler Samuel L. Jackson in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel The first trailer for “The Avengers” is finally here, offering our best look yet at what director Joss Whedon has in mind for when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes gather together on the big screen in May. For many fans, the trailer delivered on all its promises: extensive looks at the team in action, creepy narration from Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and even Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury stepping onto the battlefield with a bazooka in tow. For other fans — let’s just say the sweet melodic stylings of Nine Inch Nails wasn’t exactly what they had in mind for the trailer’s soundtrack, among other grievances. To get a better sense at what fans are thinking regarding the “Avengers” trailer, MTV News reached out to film and comic book experts across the blogosphere to weigh in with their thoughts on the latest Marvel teaser. The overall verdict, with few exceptions, is that the trailer is a rollicking success. “I’m a guy who likes to deal in specifics, and what I can say specifically is I honestly liked all of it,” said Jonah Weiland, executive producer at Comic Book Resources . “Sets an incredible tone and gives us a glimpse of the dynamic between the core members (I’m sure we’ll find out more about Black Widow and Hawkeye in due time). The action looks intense, but most importantly the characters all look like they ‘fit’ together — frankly, that’s one of the biggest challenges with this ‘team movie’ concept Marvel has been building to and it appears on first glance like they’ve succeeded in a major way.” NextMovie ‘s Kevin Polowy agreed that the “Avengers” trailer was the home run he was hoping for. “First off, I’m just relieved there’s some meat to it,” he said. “This is leaps and bounds beyond the unrevealing teaser trailer I think a lot of fans feared. Instead, we’re treated to glimpses of all the Avengers as well as Nick Fury and Loki, not to mention plenty of other bells and whistles: Menacing narration, cars blowing up, rocket launchers, trademark Tony Stark snark, more cars blowing up … lots of cars blow up in this trailer. Plus a look at that ‘rage monster’ the Hulk! I thought it rocked. This is really going to bring the house down at New York Comic Con.” From the perspective of HitFix ‘s Gregory Ellwood, Marvel hit the nail on the ol’ Shellhead when it comes to the movie’s big selling point. “It was fantastic to see Iron Man flying through the air again — Marvel knows how they are going to open this movie, and it’s with him,” he said. “The Downey Jr./Banner moment was cute (boy are those guys short, though), Hemsworth’s charm is always infectious, Sam Jackson is kickin’ ass like there are some snakes everywhere, Black Widow is in the house, we get our first glimpse of an Avengers Quinjet and a shot of Cap and Thor coming to blows.” But there are some areas the “Avengers” trailer did not deliver on, according to the experts, like getting the chance to spend more time with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, whose only previous Marvel credit is a brief cameo in “Thor.” “It would’ve been nice to see a little bit more Hawkeye,” said Caleb Goellner, senior editor at Comics Alliance . “I understand that the ‘Big Three’ and Black Widow are the established characters with the biggest draw, but what can I say? I like arrows.” Ellwood agreed, adding a dearth of Black Widow to his list of critiques: “It would be fantastic if Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner actually had a chance to speak. Although, obviously, many fans of the Black Widow might not care.” Another potential area of weakness: the movie’s central threat. Though we know Loki is the big bad in charge during “The Avengers,” we’re still in the dark as to the power he possesses. As Newsarama ‘s Lucas Siegel pointed out: “What’s the big threat? We saw Loki, who Thor took down on his own, and … exploding cars. It would’ve been nice to have a little bit more direct of a ‘big threat’ shown.” Having said that, Siegel added: “Of course, that’s what we all want to see, but it could also be a great thing to save for the movie itself.” “All in due time,” Weiland agreed regarding Marvel’s decision to withhold certain bits of key information. “This certainly isn’t the last trailer for this movie.” It certainly isn’t. Asked what they were most looking forward to seeing next from the Avengers, many of the experts agreed upon a certain shade of green. “Hulk, Hulk, Hulk!” Weiland said. “It’s a safe bet that some — if not much — of the NYC destruction seen in the trailer is caused by the Hulk and, look, we all want to see Hulk rampage. Sure, we got some of that in those two films, but I’m pretty sure in Joss Whedon’s hands, he’ll make those previous Hulk movies look like an episode of ‘My Little Pony.’ ” Another frequently cited item on the wish list: confirmation of Loki’s allies, long rumored to be the Skrulls, an alien race of shape-shifters prominently featured in Marvel Comics. “I’d like the next trailer to further tease what kind of threat the Avengers will face in 2012,” Goellner said. “Skrulls? Robots? Elves? Whatever it is, I want to know the team is up against more than Loki and some city streets exploding.” “Of course everyone still wants to know who’s helping Loki wreak havoc on Earth,” Polowy agreed. “Clearly some sort of intergalactic posse’s got his back. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Whedon and company keep that under wraps for as long as they can.” But if there’s one thing the experts could all agree upon? “Just the whole darn movie,” Siegel exclaimed. “Can’t wait!” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Avengers.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
