‘It’s really chilled out and relaxed,’ actress says of film’s New Zealand set. By Kara Warner Evangeline Lilly Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Even though the big-screen adaptation of “The Hobbit” is based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s beloved book, everyone knows the movie version won’t be an exact replica and that there will be a few surprises in store when the first film hits theaters next year. One of those surprises director Peter Jackson already announced is the addition of actress Evangeline Lilly, playing the newly created role of Woodland Elf Tauriel . MTV News had a couple of minutes with the actress at the premiere of her new film “Real Steel” on Sunday night, and we snuck in a few “Hobbit” questions, asking for a progress update on the elf fight training she endured for the role. “Elf fighting, let me just say something, recovering from labor is like recovering from a full-body injury, and I didn’t realize to what extent that was true until I started training for elf fighting,” revealed Lilly, who gave birth to her first child in May. “My hips don’t move like they used to move, my back doesn’t move like it used to move, my shoulders are sore every day. But it’s fun.” The former “Lost” actress said she’s also enjoying the “chilled out” atmosphere of filming in New Zealand, as well as being a part of yet another male-dominated cast. “It’s kind of, like, my M.O.,” Lilly said about being one of few women on set. ” ‘Lost’ was a boys club, ‘The Hurt Locker’ was a boys club, [‘Real Steel’] was a boys club, and now ‘The Hobbit’ is a boys club. So I’m used to it. … It’s really chilled out and relaxed, and everyone is really down to earth and supportive.” Finally, we asked Lilly if she’d been able to glean any words of wisdom from Jackson’s previous leading-lady elves, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel and Liv Tyler as Arwen in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. “I wish! I would love to talk to those women, and they’re two women who I deeply admire,” she said. “Cate Blanchett is in this film, and I missed her; we didn’t cross paths. She was filming before I got there and was gone by the time I arrived. “But the good thing is, I tried not to copy their performances,” she added. “I really wanted to have something original, so I intentionally didn’t go back and watch ‘Rings’ for that reason. I just want to create something new.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hobbit.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
Since the only thing J.J. Abrams loves more than lens flares are secrets, this should come as no big surprise: The Super 8 / Star Trek director is planning a new Paramount joint with screenwriter Billy Ray ( Flightplan , Shattered Glass , and the upcoming Channing Tatum Peter Pan reimagining), which the duo devised together. The details are under wraps, natch, but it’s described as a “mystery adventure.” Thanks for that clue, fellas! While we wait for more info to hit the wires, see what potential Abrams-Ray fantasy pitches you can come up with in the comments below. (Anyone still holding out for Slusho: The Movie ?) [ Deadline ]

“I’ve done a lot of complaining here, but of all the things I’ve complained about, I can’t complain about my life.” – Andy Rooney in his final essay, My Lucky Life . Sunday, the 92-year-old made his 1,097th and last appearance on 60 Minutes. “I wish I could do this forever,” he said, admitting he’s dreaded his retirement . The long-running CBS news program, which has featured Andy Rooney since its 1978 debut, also conducted a long interview with the writer/commentator. Poignantly, but with his vintage curmudgeonly humor, he closed by thanking his fans. However, “If you do see me in a restaurant, please, just let me eat my dinner.” Watch Andy Rooney’s final 60 Minutes appearance here: Andy Rooney: Final 60 Minutes Segment
Prepare to chicken dance, Arrested Development : arguably the funniest, most intelligent sitcom in the history of television is likely heading back to the air. At a New Yorker Festival event yesterday, series creator Mitch Hurwitz said he hopes to “do a limited-run series into the movie,” where the show would come back for approximately 9-10 episodes, with each focusing on just one character and updating fans on his/her life over the five years since the series went off the air. These episodes would then lead into the wildly-anticipated Arrested Development film. Nothing is official yet, but Hurwitz said he hopes to bring the show back next fall. Let’s all celebrate with a meal of frozen bananas and a call to Steve Holt, shall we? Steve Holt!
“What’s your number?” If your boyfriend or girlfriend asked this question, would you answer? Let’s not pretend we don’t all know what “number” I’m talking about and it isn’t your phone number (although for some guys out there your number actually may be approaching seven digits.) I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of the new movie “Whats Your Number?” starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans and since a healthy portion of the ways we govern our sexual and dating lives is based on our “number” I thought it would be interesting to find out just how important the number of partners someone has had really is. To give you a basic idea about the film, Anna Faris’s character has slept with 19 people and discovers in a Cosmo Magazine article that a woman’s chances of marrying after 20 partners drops significantly. This sends her on a quest to find all of her ex’s(with the help of an often naked Chris Evans) to ensure that the next man she gives it up to is the man that walks her down the aisle. Now I had the pleasure of speaking with the gorgeous Tika Sumpter (who can also be seen in the up coming Think Like A Man with Kevin Hart) on the red carpet who co-stars in the film playing one of Anna’s close girlfriends and I asked her about the importance of “the number” to women. So, should a woman ever reveal her number? Tika doesn’t think so saying, “Everybody always says they want to be honest I don’t think people really want to be honest with each other, so no. I don’t think everybody can take it, only a certain person can take it.” Personally I would have to agree, even as a man I can admit we may want to know but we may not always be happy with the answer, a sentiment she echoed for me saying, “Most men love being all over the place but if a woman can’t count(them) on her fingers then they don’t want to be with you. You want us to play as if we don’t have a lot of partners.” Well maybe Ms. Sumpter would want to know her boyfriend’s number? “Absolutely not,” she said. “Why would I want to know that? I just want to know that he’s safe and that’s it.” Which seems to be the right way to go about it. No one really wants to know their partner’s number because if it’s too low you probably won’t believe them(especially if it’s a guy) and if it’s too high you’ll probably want out of the relationship, or at the very least you’ll be thinking very heavily about who’s had your partner’s goodies before they got to you. What’s Your Number? is a very funny film, personally one of my favorite Anna Faris movies. It does a good job of expressing just how consumed women can become over something as silly as their number of sexual partners, how it affects their future, and Cosmo Magazine articles. It was a movie I wouldn’t have minded being dragged to by a girlfriend even if just to validate my belief of how women can sometimes over think things and have it played out comedically on screen for me. It’s no secret guys pride themselves on a high number and girls aim to keep it low. Society has pretty much conditioned us to think and act this way so don’t be too hard on yourself for your sexual behavior. So, would you tell your partner your number? Discuss it with them and us at TheUrbanDaily in the comments below now and after you go see What’s Your Number? in theaters this weekend. I am one of the only three fans featured in that trailer and it was my best friend who spoke those words. Just over a year ago, on August 22nd 2010 in London Ontario, five of my closest friends and I went to the Justin Bieber My World 2.0 tour and it was the best concert of my life, for more than one reason. We weren’t doing anything half assed for this night. All of us spent hours on our tank tops and we decked out our cars to the extreme, blaring Biebs music and dancing out the sun roofs. As we drove down the street, we caught the attention of producers for what was soon to be Justin Bieber’s documentary movie. They ran up to us and straight up asked if we wanted to be interviewed for the movie. Of course after many screams, we rushed to the side of the arena and did a personal interview for nearly 7 minutes. Little did we know, much of that interview would be seen by Justin Bieber and millions of others around the world. As if that wasn’t enough, half way through the concert when Justin was riding on his infamous heart shaped machine through the crowd, a lady (I later discovered from watching the movie was one of Justin’s managers, Allison) pulled me into the aisle and told me to get my friend. They all were standing on chairs down the row, so I figured they would merely be scolded and I randomly grabbed the closest one to me. But she was very specific, she wanted my friend Rachael only. When we finally got her, all we heard was a scream and her being whisked away. Within the next two minutes, our friend was on stage being sung to by Justin Bieber himself (Yes, she is the girl in the movie who is sobbing her eyes out and wailing her love for him). It was an unbelievable experience in itself, and I couldn’t imagine how much better it could get until I received a call from Los Angeles asking for my parent’s signature to be officially allowed to be participated in the film , and two weeks later to see myself on a flat screen TV, split seconds after Usher was on screen. After the trailer craziness, the movie finally was released and we were featured over four times together and individually. One day after the entire affair was long over, I was shuffling through my drawers and I found a disgruntled and ripped Bucket List that I had thrown out on one dreary day. I had thrown it out because I believed my very first number, ‘Be In a Justin Bieber Video’, could never come true. I am pleased to say, I have crossed that off my list of things to do before I die. Justin Bieber has given me and my friends a story to share with our grandchildren. He gave me hope. Hope you enjoy, Ivana Read more from the original source: I am one of the only three fans featured in that trailer and it…
On Thursday, August 4, my friend called me and was breathing really fast. She was talking too fast and I think she was about to cry, I seriously thought something was wrong. Once she slowed down, she asked me if i wanted to come to the Teen Choice Awards with her and her mom, Holly Robinson Peete (from ‘The Talk’) . I was so excited. Apparently they had one extra ticket, and she knew that I had wanted to go to the TCA’s. She told me we would be able to walk on the red carpet with other celebrities, sit in the second row of seats, and go to the after party. I was beyond excited when she told me Justin would be there. I was so excited on the morning of the TCA’s. My mom drove me to my friend’s house, explaining all the way there to not freak out in front of Justin. After my mom left, my friend, her mom Holly, and I got in their car and drove to Universal Studios. We had to walk through lines and lines of security, and some people stopped us to take pictures with my friend’s mom. Finally we caught up with Holly’s publicist. He walked us to the red carpet, where Holly and him walked ahead of us, and my friend and I slowly walked behind them while looking at the other celebrities. As we were walking up the carpet, we saw Lucy Hale, Joe Jonas, Zac Efron, Demi Lavato, Sterling Knight, and Tyra Banks. We met all of them, and shook their hand, but I was still waiting for Justin. At the very end of the red carpet, we saw a familiar looking guy…KENNY HAMILITON! We asked Kenny how he likes being famous now because of the movie, he hugged us, then he started chatting with Holly. Then as Kenny turned, we could finally see past him. I had to nudge my friend before she saw the golden dirty blond hair that everyone loves. My heart started beating much faster than usual, and my hands got all sweaty. My friend had met him four times before this, but was still freaking out. Justin walked over, and casually starts talking to Holly right in front of us. We’re both looking at Justin, not believing he’s standing four feet in front of us. Holly then pauses, and introduces my friend and I to Justin. I watch as he greets and hugs my friend, nervously waiting for my hug. He then turns to me and says, “So you must be Izzy! Are you having fun so far? I know I am!’ Then he hugged me! It was the best four seconds of my life! While hugging him, my arm lightly brushed over his hair! All I could say was, “Hi, I love you so much’ because I was so nervous, but I guess that’s all I need to say. Then he started chatting to Holly again, and I turn to my friend. We both just look at each other smiling harder then we’ve ever smiled before. I wait for Justin to say bye to us and walk away to tell my friend I touched his hair! We then found our way back to Holly’s publicist, and the whole way we walk into the stadium, we talk about what just happened. Our seats are on the middle-right side in the second row, in you’re standing on the stage looking out into the audience. Justin, Selena, Kenny, and Taylor Swift were sitting directly in front of the stage, in the first row of seats, only 30 feet away from us! We hardly ever took our eyes off Justin, trying to get him to look at us. The rest of the award show was so fun, and we went to the after party when it ended. We decided that we were tired and our feet hurt, so we slowly made our way over to the car. We nearly fell asleep in the car-ride home, but how could we when 3 hours ago we hugged Justin Bieber. I love Justin Bieber so much and he helps me live my dreams. I LOVE YOU JUSTIN! Continue reading here: On Thursday, August 4, my friend called me and was breathing…
