In response to the Sony hacking scandal and threats of violence from a North Korean cyber-terrorist group, all five of the nation’s major theater chains have reportedly chosen not to carry the controversial Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy, The Interview. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Regal Entertainment, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark, Carmike Cinemas, and Cineplex Entertainment have all opted out of showing the film. Yesterday, the group identifying itself as “Guardians of Peace” issued terrorist threats and promised 9/11-style attacks on theaters that continued with plans to play The Interview. In response, Sony canceled a premiere event and offered contracted theaters the right to refuse the movie. Less than 24 hours later, The Interview has been ousted from every major theater chain, which effectively means that for the time being, there are no plans for the film to be released to the general public. Earlier today, there was talk that Sony hoped theaters would pull The Interview , so that the studio could avoid the PR nightmare of a nationwide release, without looking as though it had given into terrorist demands. If that’s the case, then execs got their wish. Now, however, they’re faced with two unattractive options: shelve the film completely and accept a massive financial loss, or find a different, more low-key approach to releasing it, such as a pay-per-view platform. Either way, it’s profoundly bad news for a film that Sony believed in enough to justify some massive risks. 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal 1. New Ghostbusters Cast Revealed! One email reveals that the studio is hoping to have Jennifer Lawrence, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone, and Lizzy Caplan star in the upoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot. Well, “all-female” isn’t quite accurate. The ladies will be joined by an A-list male star, who will apparently need to be dragged to the set kicking and screaming…

Threats of violence against movie theaters and moviegoers resulted in the cancelation of Thursday’s scheduled premiere of The Interview in New York City. The Interview Movie Trailer The fallout from the ongoing Sony Pictures Entertainment hack reached a fever pitch Tuesday with threats from the shadowy group claiming responsibility. Calling themselves Guardians of Peace, the group vowed a massive campaign of violence akin to September 11, 2001 if the movie hit theaters as planned. The reason hackers are so upset over this absurd-looking comedy? The film features Seth Rogen and James Franco as television journalists involved in a CIA plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Speculation about a North Korean link to the Sony hacking has centered on that country’s rage against the film and earlier threat of “merciless” retaliation. The Department of Homeland Security said there was “no credible intelligence” to corroborate the threat against movie theaters , but is still analyzing messages. The warning did prompt law enforcement in New York and L.A. to address security measures, and Sony to allow theaters to pull The Interview if desired. The Interview Trailer Right on cue, a spokesperson for Landmark Sunshine cinemas said the NYC premiere of The Interview, scheduled for Thursday night, has been canceled. Carmike Cinemas, which operates 247 theaters across the country, was the first to nix planned showings of the film , according to The Hollywood Reporter . Rogen and Franco pulled out of all media appearances, canceling a Buzzfeed Q&A and Rogen’s planned guest spot on Late Night With Seth Meyers . GOP (as Guardians of Peace is often dubbed) has released a trove of data files including 32,000 emails to and from Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton. Two former Sony film production workers filed lawsuits alleging the company waited too long to notify nearly 50,000 employees that data was breached. Since the hack surfaced late last month, everything from financial figures to salacious emails between top Sony executives has been dumped online. Here’s a look at some of what we’ve learned so far … 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal 1. New Ghostbusters Cast Revealed! This guy can’t be serious … Ridley Scott Explains White Washing His “Exodus” Movie As the premiere date looms near for his “Exodus” film director Ridley Scott is further explaining why he just HAD to white wash the production. As previously reported Scott said that he cast “ major actors from different ethnicities to reflect the diversity of the culture.” Now he’s flat out saying that he casted the film the way he did (with popular WHITE actors) because actors named “Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such” wouldn’t get the movie financed. DassKindaRacist. Variety.com reports: Like most high-profile religious pictures since Martin Scorsese’s 1988 “The Last Temptation of Christ,” “Exodus” became the subject of intense media scrutiny before Scott had ever exposed a frame of (digital) film on stages at London’s Pinewood Studios and on location in Spain. Much of the outcry online stemmed from his decision to cast white American, European and Australian actors in most of the key roles, no matter that the same could be said of “The Passion of the Christ,” “Noah,” “The Ten Commandments” and virtually any other big-budget Bible movies. “I can’t mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such,” Scott says. “I’m just not going to get it financed. So the question doesn’t even come up.” SMH…sooo basically eff giving a proper historical depiction and just focus on the moolah??? Got it. What a lazy azz answer. What do YOU think about Ridley Scott’s reasoning???

According to Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Lawrence is akin to Jesus Christ . That’s mighty high praise for the star of The Hunger Games franchise. But is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 worthy of the same praise? What are critics around the country saying about this wildly anticipated blockbuster? Let’s find out… The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Photos 1. Julianne Moore as President Coin This is our first look at Julianne Moore in Mockingjay. It’s safe to say we’re excited for the film. Mockingjay – Part 1, however well done, can’t compete with the first two films, although it sets up what should be its stunning ending well enough. – Tom Long If Mockingjay – Part 1 is quieter and less flashy than its predecessors, that doesn’t make it less satisfying. – Steven Rea Lawrence delivers on what dramatic beats half a novel affords him. You just wish there were more of them and that they provided a more complete, more satisfying story arc. – Kenneth Turan Katniss’ concern for the anti-sexy Peeta results in her spending quite a bit of the movie in po-faced mopery. – Kurt Loder Mockingjay – Part 1 is just big enough of a story that, even as a two-parter, the film feels substantial and justifiably halved. There’s simply too much to digest as all the pieces are put into place and the real games are set to begin. – Kirk Baird This is the “Empire Strikes Back” of the series, with the heroes constantly on defense – running, hiding, planning, hoping. – Rob Thomas Jennifer Lawrence is as good as always and gets a few key scenes to play up the emotional aspect of what’s occurring. – Jim Judy Mockingjay Rebellion Posters 1. Gale Mockingjay Poster Liam Hemsworth is back for more Hunger Games. He poses here on behalf of Mockingjay.
