In a statement to FOX Business , the drugstore chain said that it started selling CBD products–or products with cannabidiol–which is the non-psychoactive component of marijuana, last week in select states across the country. Curaleaf Holdings Inc. has announced that CVS is going to sell its CBD products in roughly 800 locations upon launch, per MarketWatch’s report on a Curaleaf earnings conference call held on Wednesday. CVS currently stands as the biggest drugstore chain in the entire nation, so this move is a huge step in the latest coup for cannabis commerce at large. “We have partnered with CBD product manufacturers that are complying with applicable laws and that meet CVS’s high standards for quality,” a company representative said about the announcement, adding that “as of last week” CBD products including creams and lotions were already being sold at locations in eight different states. More than 800 stores in Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and Tennessee will now offer CBD products as part of a distribution deal with Canadian marijuana company Curaleaf Holdings Inc. Cannabis is currently legal for medicinal use in 33 states and D.C., with 10 states boasting the full-blown recreational legalization distinction. As a result, the legal weed industry bagged a whopping $10.4 billion in 2018 alone. CBD is not really what anyone is looking for in terms of a achieving a recreational high, but for some reason, it is still a source of mild controversy for some. Outgoing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Scott Gottlieb predicted earlier this month that without some sort of action at the congressional level, the development of agency rules and regulations on the use of hemp-extracted cannabidiol in food could take years. CBD has been getting a lot of publicity from people suffering from certain mental health issues, with claims that it helps ease anxiety and other conditions. The product recently received a raving public testimonial from Lamar Odom , who partially credits it with saving his life. “It’s a perfect time to offer these cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am,” Odom told The Blast last year. Following the news of CVS’ new product addition, CEO Larry Merlo said on CNBC that the move was prompted by its customers, who have used CBD products in the past and said it helped with pain relief for arthritis and other ailments. A Virginia-based father-son duo is on a mission to empower the Black community to generate wealth. Entrepreneurs Kevon L. Chisolm and his 11-year-old son Kamari launched an investment consulting company that promotes Black economic empowerment, Black News reported. Black WallStreeter Consultation Services, launched by a father & son duo from Virginia, is designed to help individuals increase their wealth… through the creation of investment clubs! #blackpreneur #blackceo #shopblack https://t.co/SRQcKJPLzx — Black News (@BlackNews) March 15, 2019 The company—dubbed Black WallStreeter Consultation Services—was created as an avenue to educate individuals about the importance of financial literacy and provide them with the tools and resources to reach their monetary goals. Aside from providing consulting services and informative workshops, the company will cultivate community by establishing investment clubs where people can pool money to make lucrative investments. Chisolm has extensive experience in the wealth management industry. He’s served at the helm of an investment firm called Umoja Investments for over a decade. Chisolm also penned a book titled Financial Legacy: Building Wealth Through Investment Clubs . He says that through the platform he and his son created he hopes to educate and empower the Black community to make smart decisions when it comes to money so that they can alleviate financial burdens. “When we created Black WallStreeter Consultation Services, we wanted to address a few main concerns individuals have about their financial wellness,” said Chisolm in a statement. “For example, many of our clients are unsure of how to pay for college tuition, save for retirement, buy a new home or start a new business. An investment club is the ultimate opportunity to increase personal financial goals and ease financial worries.” Chisolm and his son believe that it’s never too early to start learning about financial wellness and encourage kids as young as 8-years-old to attend the seminars so they can take solid financial values with them when they step into adulthood. The father and son aren’t the only ones spreading awareness about financial literacy within the Black community. NFL player Brandon Copeland is leading a class at the University of Pennsylvania about how to manage finances. Older folks are quick to write millennials off as lazy and entitled, but quite the contrary. “A 2017 study found that perfectionism is more prevalent than ever. This is important to note because a lot of research connects perfectionism with anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.”- The Thirty Even though we have the ability to connect with different kinds of people from all over the world at any given time, thanks to social media, millennials reportedly feel lonelier than any other generation. “A study from the Intergenerational Foundation that compared three generations of young people, today’s millennials are unhappier and lonelier than previous generations, reporting a lower sense of wellbeing across areas including health, relationships, and finances. The quality of family relationships declined “by more than 50 percent between 2005 and 2015″, while close friendships fell by six percent.” – Bustle Research also claims that feeling lonely is as dangerous to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Socioeconomics, race and gender also play a part in experiencing loneliness in life — but for millenials as a whole, social media seems to be the biggest culprit. 77 percent of Americans reportedly have a social media account of some kind, but regardless of the platform, the effects on health are the same. “What happens many times when they log on is that you kind of activate a lot of social comparison. People don’t necessarily have to be super aware that this is occurring, but it does. As you’ve likely heard by now, this week saw the premiere of the controversial documentary Leaving Neverland on HBO. The film has left countless viewers scandalized, and many say it left them with no doubt that Michael Jackson is guilty of child molestation. Of course, as is usually the case with decades-old controversies, there are vehement believers on both sides of the argument. The Jackson family has decried the film as an act of ” public lynching ,” and an attempt to denigrate a man who’s no longer alive to defend himself. Around the world, protesters have gathered at screenings of the film to show their support for Jackson and loudly declare their belief in the late music legend’s innocence. The debate has mostly involved those who believe Jackson’s accusers and the much smaller group who maintains that the pop star is innocent. But one of the world’s most famous people has found herself unexpectedly caught in the middle. Following Monday night’s conclusion of the two-part docuseries, HBO aired a follow-up special entitled Oprah Winfrey Presents: After Neverland . The goal of the broadcast was to shed light on the accusations against Jackson through interviews with two of his alleged victims. It was also part of an effort to provide support for those whose lives have been touched by abuse and who may have been triggered by the revelations contained in Leaving Neverland . Oprah is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and she presented the facts of the Jackson case in a clear and level-headed fashion. Nevertheless, she now finds herself the victim of a targeted harassment campaign spearheaded by Jackson defenders. Multiple outlets are reporting today that Winfrey has received death threats, and the insults hurled at the media icon in online discussion forums are truly nauseating. The situation is made even more appalling by the fact that Oprah has been an outspoken advocate for child abuse survivors throughout her life. “It happened to me at 9, and then 10, and then 11, and then 12, 13, 14. You don’t have the language to begin to explain what’s happening to you,” Oprah told People magazine last year. “That’s why you feel you’re not going to be believed. And if the abuser, the molester, is any good, they will make you feel that you are complicit, that you were part of it,” she added. “That’s what keeps you from telling.” To our minds, the things that Jackson confessed to during the various investigations into his alleged sex crimes are enough to render him forever indefensible. But the fact that those who choose to defend him are now attacking survivors of child sexual trauma has brought this already ugly situation to a new depth. Fortunately, brave souls such as Wade Robson, James Safechuck, and Oprah Winfrey will not be intimidated into silence.
