$VTL #GDFR pic.twitter.com/FlZu2N68sy — Martin Shkreli (@MartinShkreli) August 12, 2015 Pharmaceutical CEO Defends Raising Price Of AIDS Pill To $700 This guy Martin Shkreli is catching a lot of heat today after the pharmaceutical startup he runs, Turing just hiked up the price on Daraprim, a drug used to treat a life threatening parasitic disease call toxoplasmosis that primarily affects people with compromised immune systems due to HIV/AIDS or cancer. COLD WORLD right? The drug was most recently only $13.50 but it wasn’t long ago that it cost $1. According to a NY Times report : The Infectious Diseases Society of America and the HIV Medicine Association sent a joint letter to Turing earlier this month calling the price increase for Daraprim “unjustifiable for the medically vulnerable patient population” and “unsustainable for the health care system.” An organization representing the directors of state AIDS programs has also been looking into the price increase, according to doctors and patient advocates.
