Finally! Brian De Palma is getting out of the repugnant war-screed business pioneered in Redacted and back into the sexy-time homage-remake business with which he made his name. This time it’s Passion , a thriller based on the late Alain Corneau’s acclaimed 2010 French potboiler Love Crime and featuring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace taking over for Kristen Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier, respectively. In the first photo released from the film, the actresses do what comes naturally… to, uh, De Palma. Is that necessarily a bad thing? The Cannes market will be the first to know, with Passion headed to the Croisette as one of the myriad films on the block — yet most likely the only one with the synopsis passage, “Christine loves surprises. Naked she goes to meet the mystery lover waiting in her bedroom…” File under LOLrotic. Or not? Maybe it’s a worthy successor to Corneau. Anyway, here’s the full breakdown via The Playlist : An erotic thriller in the tradition of Dressed To Kill and Basic Instinct , Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out. On the night of the murder, Isabelle is at the ballet, while Christine receives an invitation to seduction. From whom? Christine loves surprises. Naked she goes to meet the mystery lover waiting in her bedroom… [ The Playlist ]

George Zimmerman pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin and waived his right to a speedy trial on Tuesday. Arguing to a Florida court that he needs more time to prepare for trial, his move means it could be October at the earliest before it gets underway. Zimmerman’s intentions were outlined in two brief documents that his attorney, Mark O’Mara, filed Tuesday in Seminole County, Fla., circuit court. The actions did not come as a surprise to legal experts, who said such moves are common even in less-complex and lower-profile felony cases. Florida law requires suspects charged with a felony be brought to trial within 175 days of their arrest, unless those defendants ask that the right be waived. Zimmerman was released from jail after posting $150,000 bond last month. The 28-year-old turned himself in to authorities on April 11, charged with the murder of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager on February 26. Martin was walking in Zimmerman’s neighborhood in Sanford, Fla., and for reasons only he truly knows, considered him to be suspicious. Law enforcement officials’ initial reluctance to arrest Zimmerman sparked a national outcry, with many observers suspecting that Zimmerman was given a break because of his race, and the race of the young man he fatally shot. The case has also shined a light on mainstream media bias, highlighted by NBC’s editing of the 911 call from the night of the fatal altercation. He admits he shot Martin, 17, but claims he did so in self-defense. He pleaded not guilty in court documents, making his appearance unnecessary at a Tuesday arraignment hearing. At his first pre-trial hearing following his arrest, he surprised many by apologizing to Martin’s family .

BeyBey was interviewed on the red carpet of the Met Gala last night, and she said she definitely wants to give Blue Ivy siblings! Although some might find that hard to believe, the 30-year-old reveals that her recent fitness regimen consists of little time with a trainer. “I haven’t had much time in the gym [since the baby was born],” said Beyonce as she literally dropped jaws in a sheer, figure-hugging Givenchy Haute Couture gown. “I’ve been rehearsing, I have a show coming up and it’s my first show in a year.” At the very mention of her nearly four-month-old bundle of joy, Beyonce beams with pride, excited to talk all about little Blue Ivy, who she revealed was currently nestled safe and sound in the company of mother Tina Knowles and hubby Jay-Z. “I have such a full life,” she explains. “I feel like now I know the reason that I was born.” While she admits she isn’t sure when she might debut a new baby bump atop her already incredible figure, when that time rolls around, Beyonce isn’t ruling out a Brangelina size brood. “I definitely want to have more,” she proclaims. “I don’t know how many. God knows I dont know yet.” She actually said she doesn’t know how many, only God knows that. Can the world withstand another wonder of the likes of Blue Ivy? Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Any bets on when she’ll pop another one out? Source

Guess there wasn’t no Harlem shakin’ in the courthouse today. This is actually pretty tragic on multiple levels. G-Dep Sentenced To 15-Year Prison Term For Murder Former Bad Boy rapper G. Dep was sentenced this morning to 15 years prison for a two-decade old fatal gunpoint mugging — a cold-case murder that was only solved when he walked into a Harlem precinct two years ago, turning himself in so he could square himself, he has explained, with God. “The circumstance of your being before the court now suggests to me a maturity and decency that wouldn’t have been evident at the time,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus said of the sentence, the lowest allowed by law. “It was the right thing to do, even though it landed you in the position you find yourself in now,” the judge added, calling the rapper by his given name, Trevell Coleman. When he walked into a Harlem precinct two years ago, Coleman — who had had success as a protege of Sean “Puffy” Combs in the late ’90s — was a married dad of three and in treatment for an addiction to PCP. As part of turning his life around, he was determined to take responsibility for a crime that had continued to gnaw at him, his lawyer, Anthony Ricco, has explained. And he has never backed down. “My hope is that Trevell never wavers from his decision,” Ricco said at the poignant sentencing. “Fifteen years is a long time. Fifteen years in the penitentiary for putting yourself there is an even longer time.” Coleman, 37, has suffered the mockery and insults of his fellow prisoners, the lawyer noted, and in the press as well, for confessing to a shooting that he had essentially gotten away with, only to find out that his victim had died and that he had turned himself in for murder. “He’s gotten the scorn of other inmates, who called him stupid — ‘Look what happened when you open your mouth,’” the lawyer said. “His wife questioned him — ‘Trevell, what about us?’” Coleman and his wife were raising twin sons of kindergarten age. On the day of his April verdict, the wife — who had urged Coleman not to confess — had wondered to the lawyer about how the boys will manage now, without their father. “My hope is that their sons will grow up to be as proud of their father as boys can ever be, for fixing what he did,” Ricco said. “They will have a father who has honor.” In confessing, the rapper had told cops that when he was 17, or 18, or maybe 19, he had shot a man three times during a botched mugging at Park Avenue and 114th Street. He didn’t know if the man lived or died. Authorities scoured old records, much of it on microfilm, and matched the confession to the cold-case fatal shooting of John Henkel, gunned down on Oct. 19, 1993 at the same address. Hard-ball-playing prosecutors refused to offer Coleman a plea to a lesser charge, for which less prison — even a few years less — would be mandated. The outcome is fair, said prosecutor David Drucker, who did argue in favor of the minimum sentence today. There was “A totally innocent victim,” Drucker said. “The defendant shot him three times in the torso, killing him, and then he biked off leaving the victim to die.” Coleman has lived a non-violent life, turned himself in for all the right reasons, and solved a murder that would never have been off the books otherwise, he noted. Still, “He should be convicted of the crime he committed, murder in the second degree,” the prosecutor said. “I’m just trying to get right with God,” Coleman had told The Post in an exclusive jailhouse interview back in December 2010. He made no statement at his sentencing today, and nodded somberly to his family members as he was led out of court in handcuffs. SMH. Let’s hope he can maintain some kind of relationship with his wife and sons while he’s in there and that the other prisoners don’t sh!t on him too much. Do you think what G-Dep did was noble or stupid? Source

‘It’s basically a big party with no judgment,’ Roc Nation singer tells MTV News of the concept for her ‘How We Do’ video. By Rebecca Thomas Rita Ora Photo: MTV News The last time an R&B upstart sampled the Notorious B.I.G. on her debut single, it was the early aughts: Eminem was still cleaning out his closet and Pink and Christina Augilera were pop’s reigning bad girls. Amidst all that, Ashanti ‘s Biggie-sampling “Foolish” scaled the charts and spent 10 weeks at #1 on the way to becoming one of the decade’s most successful singles. Now, 10 years later, Rita Ora is dipping into Mr. Wallace’s vault for her first Stateside release. But whereas the onetime Murder Inc. princess made a breakup ballad for the ages, Ora’s debut single, “How We Do (Party)” — which gets musical inspiration from the late Big’s grimy “Party and Bullsh–” — is as bouncy as a box spring. When the newly minted Roc Nation signee visited the MTV newsroom earlier this month, we drilled her with questions about the tune and its equally effervescent video. “It’s basically a big party with no judgment,” Ora explained of how the visual matches the sentiment of the number, written by Kelly Sheehan and Bonnie McKee. “So there’s a whole bunch of people in there, from a guy who’s got knickers on and who’s colored in paint on his chest to an old man kind of shaking his hips around. … It’s definitely [about embracing] anyone who wants to come to a party,” she laughed. In the clip, the Kosovo-born, West London-raised beauty down a Basquiat-style crown as she presides over a colorful bash that alternates between a lush garden at twilight, a foil-wrapped bedroom and a white-cube space complete with guests using their torsos as paint brushes. ” ‘Cause when the sun sets, baby, on the avenue/ I get that drunk sex feeling, yeah when I’m with you,” she coos to the camera. The infectious tune dares you not to dance along, and last week at New York’s SOB’s, a room full of seen-it-all industry types gathered for a Roc Nation showcase fully rocked out. Ora, for her part, announced the next song in her set by throwing an oversize Coogi sweater (we think Big would have approved!) over her tank. With a red knit cap pulled down over platinum-blond curls, she called to mind a cross between mid-’90s-era Faith Evans (during her courtship with Mr. Wallace, of course) and Gwen Stefani, whom Ora cites as an influence. “I am a huge Notorious B.I.G. fan and I loved his Coogi sweaters and … I found one for 10 pounds actually in a village shop back home,” she told us of the Brooklyn icon’s signature cover-up. The connections to Biggie don’t end there, though. Ora is the latest on a growing roster of acts being groomed by Jay-Z, the Roc Nation mogul and Big’s old Bed-Stuy pal. Back in February, Shawn Carter himself accompanied his new artist, single in hand, to iHeartRadio’s Z100. The video went viral and the Jordan-wearing 21-year-old hasn’t looked back since. Arrest Made In Phylicia Barnes Murder Case And Sister’s Ex-Boyfriend In Custody As Suspect Someone’s locked up now for the murder of Phylicia Barnes: For nearly a decade, Michael Maurice Johnson dated the half-sister of Phylicia Barnes. He went along on family trips, and played basketball with their brother. He was like family, and considered Phylicia a “little sister,” relatives say. He was also the last person to see the girl alive in late December 2010. Now Baltimore prosecutors have charged him in the murder of the promising North Carolina teenager, whose nude body was found floating in the Susquehanna River one year ago this month. In announcing the charge Thursday, authorities said very little about the case against Johnson, 28. He faces one count of first-degree murder, and officials declined to say how or where Phylicia was killed. Johnson was arrested late Wednesday outside his apartment after police said he tried to run from officers. “This was an enormous collaborative effort by all agencies involved,” Baltimore State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein said at a news conference, where he was flanked by city police and state troopers. “We hope it provides some measure of closure for the family.” Johnson, who does not appear to have a criminal record, had been repeatedly questioned since Phylicia’s disappearance, but defense attorney Russell Neverdon said Johnson continues to deny any involvement. Neverdon briefly met with his client Thursday at the Baltimore City Detention Center. “He told me, ‘I’m innocent. I didn’t do anything wrong. I will fight this to the very end,’” Neverdon said. After 16 months of investigating, prosecutors obtained the grand jury indictment two days after the former lead detective in Baltimore, Daniel Nicholson IV, was suspended amid allegations that he conducted a rogue investigation to search for his own daughter. The teen went missing from Baltimore County last Friday and was later found unharmed. Neverdon, during a news conference in his lower Charles Village office, said he believes that police expedited their case because of the troubles Nicholson faces, and that the single-count indictment shows their case remains circumstantial. “Police had Mr. Johnson in their sights from the first day,” Neverdon said, noting that his client met four times with homicide detectives and submitted a DNA sample for testing. Johnson’s relatives were questioned and his car was searched, the lawyer said. “The police made good on their promise,” Neverdon said. “They told him during one meeting that it was only a matter of time before they got him.” Bernstein said Thursday that the allegations against Nicholson — whose squad attended the news conference without him — are a “completely separate matter” and will “absolutely not” impact the case against Johnson. “If I thought for a moment that the alleged activity impacted the case, we wouldn’t have brought it,” Bernstein said. Phylicia, an honor student who was set to graduate early from high school, vanished on Dec. 28, 2010, from the Reisterstown Road apartment of her half-sister Deena, while visiting from Monroe, N.C. Deena has said she met Phylicia about 10 years ago at a family reunion in Baltimore, and they reconnected about three years ago on Facebook. Phylicia visited Baltimore several times, and hoped to attend Towson University. Police have described the apartment as a “college house” that wasn’t always secured and said that up to a dozen people were in and out of it over the holidays. Phylicia’s mother, Janice Sallis-Mustafa, has accused the half-sister of condoning alcohol use and allowing men to come and go at the apartment. Baltimore Sun More On Bossip!
