Hussle’s sister, Samantha Smith, believes the girl is better off with her brother’s side of the family, but mother Tanisha Foster vows to do what she must to regain custody of her child. The Blast reports : Nipsey Hussle‘s baby mama has arrived to court to battle it out with his family and make sure she will have custody of her 10-year-old daughter. Tanisha Foster just showed up to court in Los Angeles and we’re told she will make it clear to the judge she wants to see her daughter, Emani. Tanisha is also going to bring up the fact that she has joint custody of Emani, as was awarded years back when she entered into a custody order with Nipsey. Along with custody, we’re told Tanisha will be filing for child support and wants the financial assistance to come from Nipsey’s estate. Outside the courtroom, Foster told the outlet that she’s willing to do whatever is necessary to retain primary custody of her child. — Photo: Getty

Source: NBC The Village / NBC/Jerod Haynes The very first time I saw Jerod Haynes , I knew he would be a star. Per a friend’s recommendation, we met back in late 2013 when Jerod came in to audition for my MFA thesis film “Blame.” The minute he read those lines, it was clear he was meant to play the role of this young father at a crossroads: Either turn his son into the police for raping their neighbor or delete the only evidence of the assault on the teen’s cell phone. Despite the tiny budget for our 6-day shoot, Jerod never treated it like an amateur student film. Like a true professional, he came to set ready and delivered a beautiful performance filled with complexity, empathy and rawness. Everyday, I looked into that monitor and was blown away in awe. And having watched his work over the years, whether it’s on stage or on-screen, Jerod is truly a force. Now five-plus-years later, the Chicago native is starring in his first TV leading role in NBC’s “The Village.” On the drama, he plays Ben, a New York City police officer living in his parent’s Brooklyn apartment complex where his neighbors are more like his family. The more obstacles they all encounter in life, the more they grow together. For Ben, he is also juggling a lot—the death of his son, his mother’s battle with pancreatic cancer and falling in love with Ava, an Iranian immigrant who ICE wants to deport. That, and Ben is helping raise her son Sami. No doubt, the meatiness of a role like this is exactly what Jerod was made for. HelloBeautiful recently sat down with the rising star to talk about NBC’s “The Village,” being an African-American man playing a police officer and how therapy has helped him become a better actor and human being. HelloBeautiful: You were an athlete and then you became an actor. How did that happen? Jerod Haynes: I played basketball and even left college early to pursue it professionally, but my agent stopped answering my phone calls. [Laughs] So that dream never happened and I found myself stuck on my sister’s couch depressed. One day I Googled “depression” and it said something about acting classes, so I approached the Acting Studio Chicago . But I couldn’t afford the classes, so they worked out a barter system. I would take out the trash and do other things around the studio to get free classes. Soon, I realized that I really liked acting, so I took even more classes and auditioned for some plays, got guidance from people in the business and kept going with it. I started to see that as the window for basketball closed, another one opened. HB: OK, so I’ve had the privilege of directing you before, and listen…there were so many moments on set when I was looking into the monitor and was like “Damn, he’s really good.” At what point, did you realize that you were good at this? JH: Kellee, I’m still trying to figure that out! [Laughs] Honestly, sometimes I wonder if they are like, “What is he doing here? I want to say that I’m good, but that’s all subjective. But here’s what I do know. I enjoy this and I am just seeking to get better at it. HB: You have the ability to dig so deep within yourself with your role as Ben and in any supporting role you’ve had, like when you were on “Chicago Med” and your wife died and obviously “Blame.” You like to cry on-screen. [Laughs] JH: Ha! You know, this work teaches you who you really are. And learning who you are is the toughest task you can be given, because you see the good and the bad. You see your flaws up close and you really begin to understand what your triggers are, especially when the scripts require a high level of emotion and thoughtfulness. I started therapy and began learning why certain things affected me and what tools I need to have to work on them. Listen. Therapy works. Also, being able to articulate what and why something affects me in a scene has helped as an actor and as a man. I can read a scene and identify quicker with it and what it requires emotionally. HB: It’s so rare to hear a Black man speak so openly and positively about how therapy has improved their lives. Thank you for this, we need more to speak up. JH: Well, I wasn’t always that way, I won’t lie. But I got to a place where I kept hitting a ceiling and finally had to ask myself what was the worse thing that could happen by going to therapy? HB: Right, like the worse is that you get better? JH: Exactly. And like I said, it works. Source: NBC The Village / NBC HB: Shifting gears to “The Village,” what drew you to this role? JH: I remember reading the script and feeling like there was so much humanity in it. And in these times, we are seeing a lot of isolation and silence and people holding on to grudges. Yet, here is a story about this group of neighbors who try to understand each other and be there for one another. We all have a commonality of pain and that brings us together. You’re wounded, I’m wounded, so let me help you heal and vice versa. And these neighbors need each other’s help and can’t do it alone. Given how divided this country is right now, I was drawn to this story. “The Village” is the show we need now more than ever.

Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN Remy Ma and Safaree were supposed to rock an April benefit concert but it appears the pair violated exclusivity terms of their contract and forced a cancellation of the event. The Love & Hip Hop: New York castmates were barred from performing within 60 miles of the Wintrust Arena in Chicago for a period of time but they nixed that part of the agreement. TMZ reports : The Circle Foundation — which mentors Chicago-area youths — is suing the rappers, saying they signed to perform at a fundraising concert back on April 21, 2018, at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. According to docs, obtained by TMZ, the Foundation was forced to cancel the show after the rappers breached their contracts. The Foundation claims their contracts specifically stated Remy and Safaree could NOT perform within 60 miles of the arena for 30 days before the event. It’s called a “performance exclusivity” clause, and it’s a common practice promoters use to make sure their concerts remain in hot demand. In the suit, the Foundation says the rappers agreed and signed the deal … with Remy getting a $35k deposit payment and Safaree getting $7,250. The problem, according to the docs, is Remy performed on April 8 at the Black Women’s Expo in Chicago — and Safaree played the Rockin’ Horse Saloon & Grill on April 14 in a Chicago suburb. The Circle Foundation is suing for the money it paid out plus damages. Remy Ma’s attorney has responded and promises to look into the matter. Reps for Safaree have yet to comment. — Photo: WENN

Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN via MadameNoire.com : Last year there were two documentaries about Whitney Houston that were released on various platforms. The one that was released in theaters, Whitney contained a detail that the other Showtime documentary, Whitney: Can I Be Me?, did not. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). Whitney , produced in part by Whitney’s sister-in-law Pat Houston, contained a shocking claim. Mary Jones, the woman who served as Whitney’s longtime assistant shared that Whitney told her that she was molested by her cousin Dee Dee Warwick, sister to famous singer Dionne Warwick. Jones claimed that Whitney told her that she was molested by her cousin Dee Dee Warwick. Since then, both Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick came out to deny the claims. Recently, in an interview with People , Warwick doubled down on the claims, saying that she was still upset about the way her sister was represented in the film. “All I can say about Dee Dee is that she was a loving, caring, giving person. What was depicted of her is absolutely untrue and something I will never forgive.” What’s interesting about Warwick’s insistence of her sister’s innocence is that Jones wasn’t the only one to make these claims about Dee Dee Warwick. Email Submit Whitney’s brother Gary Garland-Houston also shared during the documentary that he was also molested by Dee Dee Warwick. When the film was initially released, Pat Houston, Gary’s wife, spoke to the Associated Press about the claims and the difficulty of breaking the news to Cissy Houston, Gary and Whitney’s mother. “It was deeply a revelation for her. You think about her, and it being a bit overbearing for her to hear — and her kids not telling her. That’s pretty tough to have to deal with.” Dee Dee Warwick, who was 18 years older than Whitney Houston, used to babysit both Whitney and Gary when Cissy was touring. Whitney and Gary were 7 and 9-years-old respectively. They were around this age when the alleged abuse took place. Dionne is not the only one who had a hard time believing the allegations. Cissy Houston only spoke about the claims in a joint statement she released with Dionne Warwick. “We cannot reconcile the Public’s need to know about Whitney’s life as justification for invasion of her privacy or the charge against Dee Dee, a charge which neither Whitney nor Dee Dee is here to deny, refute or affirm. Neither I, Dionne, nor my son Michael who was very close to his sister, and in the film is VERY candid about their drug use, has ever heard these allegations; we have never heard anything remotely connected to the crimes charged against Dee Dee in the film.” Jones has heard of Warwick and Cissy Houston’s displeasure with her claims and said: “I was close to Whitney, she confided in me and I struggled tremendously deciding whether to share this secret or keep to myself,” Jones said in a statement of the alleged abuse. “I deeply love and respect Dionne, Cissy and their entire families, and my intention was never to embarrass anyone in the family, but rather to bring to light that Whitney was subjected to something painful and troubling as a child. And it’s something that happens to other innocent kids and goes unspoken too much. I decided to share the story so that people might understand that throughout her entire life Whitney carried this with her, and the weight of it was immense,” she said. “Whitney was a wonderful woman, an angel, and she did not drag herself down all alone — there was a cause.” ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : RHOA Star Eva Marcille Is Pregnant With Baby No. 3! Source: Meek Mill 2011 MTV2 Sucker Free Awards held at Fountainbleau Hotel Miami Beach, Florida – 11.11.11 Featuring: Meek Mill Where: Miami Beach, Florida, United States When: 11 Nov 2011 Credit: WENN The legal battle behind Meek Mill’s unjust allegeldy probation violation sentencing continues. His team has presented new facts that justify the obvious. Complex is reporting that Roc Nation has submitted new evidence that proves that they were not trying to falsify statements from A. Charles Peruto Jr, the lawyer representing the judge overseeing Meek’s case. In late 2018 the attorney filed a suit against the management agency and Amazon over his appearance in the Free Meek documentary. He volunteered to appear in the film to formally discuss the case but was caught talking reckless. He admitted that Brinkley appeared to look “f***ing awful” for not granting the MMG rapper a new case. Charles also flatly said defending her was difficult given her rulings exposed as being biased against the Philadelphia MC. Peruto filed a lawsuit against the two companies claiming the audio was altered. The court documents stated “These illegally intercepted and digitized oral communications were then edited and leaked to the press so that Peruto’s off the record words would be manipulated against him and his client, Judge Brinkley”. Well the Roc is stood ten toes down on their claims and have since hired experts that have verified that the off the record statements were not doctored. “Even though they are recompressed into different formats, their content accurately reflects the dialogue recorded in the original evidence files” the new filings read. Presiding judge on the Roc Nation / Amazon suit, Judge McHugh, will soon rule if Peruto’s lawsuit can proceed or will be dismissed. — Photo: Brian Stukes/Getty Images

Source: Reagan Elam / Reagan Elam-relam@radio-one.com via NewsOne.com : Nipsey Hussle ‘s beloved Marathon Clothing store has closed its doors in in South Central Los Angeles. However, that does not mean it’s the end of merchandising for the rapper’s legacy. The Marathon Clothing is still fully operational online but its doors were closed this week and there was no word on when it will reopen. There were unconfirmed reports that Marathon Clothing has made $10 million since the rapper’s untimely death. If that was true, coupled with Nipsey Hussle’s estimated net worth of $8 million, his multiple investments that included buying a strip mall likely have his family set up for life. pic.twitter.com/WHnKn9hq1W — Karen Civil (@KarenCivil) May 6, 2019 Hussle was shot and killed outside of the Marathon Clothing store on March 31. The suspect, 29-year-old Eric Holder, was arrested on April 2 in Bellflower, California. He has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). Herman Douglas, Hussle’s business partner, described his final moments with the rapper early last month. “Me and Nipsey was talking, and the dude that shot him (Eric Holder) , he came and shook our hands,” Douglas told the Los Angeles Times. Said he was a rapper and this old bulls**t. Shook our hands, the dude went and got his burger. He left.” Douglas also added, “What seems to be a less talented rapper had envy and hate in his eyes. It was nothing else. It was no motive. It was no beef.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! Email Submit Douglas said he went inside the Marathon Clothing store to get some food, which is when 29-year-old Holder returned. “So, I might have left Nipsey’s side maybe three seconds,” Douglas said. “I left him maybe, approximately three seconds that I had left Nipsey and the dude came and shot him.” While Hussle was associated with gangs, he appeared to be distancing himself from that life. Shortly before his death, he was talking with Steve Soboroff, president of the Los Angeles Police Commission, about how to avoid youth from getting involved in gangs. Source: Nuccio DiNuzzo / Getty Jussie Smollett was thought to be persona non grata on the set of Fox’s Empire , but sources close to the case are saying otherwise. Smollett’s colleagues allegedly want the actor back to continue playing his character Jamal Lyons, although the network might have other plans . TMZ reports : Sources on the show tell us cast members — including Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard — feel Jussie deserves a fair shake, and that should include a full return to the show. Just last week, Fox announced Jussie got an extension through season 6, but also … it had no plans to bring his character back to the show. Our sources say as soon as the announcement was made, Jussie’s costars got busy contacting “Empire” brass and pushing for his return. As for why … we’re told the cast feels Jussie’s character was an incredibly important part of the show, and they don’t feel his return will hurt ratings. In one of the final episodes of season 5, Jussie’s character, Jamal, got married in the first gay, black wedding on primetime TV. The outlet adds that while Smollett is signed with the show through season six, it didn’t have plans to feature him in the series. — Photo: Getty

Source: Dimitrios Kambouris / Getty Every few years, the climate of the fashion industry changes drastically. At one point, it was cool to rock baggy clothes and mismatched prints, until it became chic to wear skinny jeans and button ups. One thing that rarely shifts in fashion is the desire to incorporate a little street style, no matter what look you’re going for. Big brands sometimes use to stray away from adding “street fashion” into their collections, but they always come back to the culture for a little inspo. In an effort to reassert itself into the genre of streetwear, True Religion hired UpscaleHype cofounder Allen Onyia as their new artistic director. Onyia is a recognized tastemaker in streetwear fashion circles and was named “Menswear’s Most Important Instagram Account” by GQ in 2018. In a press release about Allen’s new, excited gig, True Religion said in a statement: “In his new role, Onyia will innovate modern and elevated streetwear for True Religion, which has iconic roots in the aesthetic. He plans to apply the same ethos to design as he does to his platforms – “look good, feel good and be a part of something”. View this post on Instagram What’s the word? Tell me what you heard. #UpscaleLife A post shared by Allen Onyia (@allenonyia) on Mar 31, 2019 at 9:03am PDT Onyia said of upcoming position: “I have always admired True Religion as an iconic brand with deep roots in the streetwear category. I am thrilled to join the team and bring my vision to reestablish a brand people can associate with, in this new age of streetwear.” True Religion CEO Chelsea Grayson added: “We have been driving towards this watershed moment since I joined the Company. I am excited to work with Allen to return True Religion to its rightful place among streetwear leaders. The whole point of this [hire] is it really signals a sea change for the company and its progression into the future. This is a real line in the sand and I was intent on that when I joined the company.” View this post on Instagram Helluva contrast. #UpscaleLife A post shared by Allen Onyia (@allenonyia) on Mar 12, 2019 at 6:26pm PDT “Allen lives, eats and breathes streetwear and the streetwear aesthetic on all ends of the spectrum. So he knows how to dress it up, dress it down, make it more elevated or less elevated, and I really respect that fluidity in his style.” Adding Allen to the crew is just one of many changes the brand has planned. Grayson says there will be less denim and more crewneck T-shirts, crewneck long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, outerwear and elevated fabrications. But Allen isn’t new to this fashion ish. Back in 2008, he co founded the site UpscaleHype with his brother Kyle Onyia, which focused on coverage of high-end men’s wear and celebrity fashion. He also worked with True Religion once before as as a brand ambassador when the brand teamed up with Travis Scott back in 2014. Grayson says Onyia’s mark touch on the brand will be felt as soon as their Spring collection drops — but you’ll see more of his works during the holiday assortments. Congrats, young King.
