Source: Meek Mill 2011 MTV2 Sucker Free Awards held at Fountainbleau Hotel Miami Beach, Florida – 11.11.11 Featuring: Meek Mill Where: Miami Beach, Florida, United States When: 11 Nov 2011 Credit: WENN The legal battle behind Meek Mill’s unjust allegeldy probation violation sentencing continues. His team has presented new facts that justify the obvious. Complex is reporting that Roc Nation has submitted new evidence that proves that they were not trying to falsify statements from A. Charles Peruto Jr, the lawyer representing the judge overseeing Meek’s case. In late 2018 the attorney filed a suit against the management agency and Amazon over his appearance in the Free Meek documentary. He volunteered to appear in the film to formally discuss the case but was caught talking reckless. He admitted that Brinkley appeared to look “f***ing awful” for not granting the MMG rapper a new case. Charles also flatly said defending her was difficult given her rulings exposed as being biased against the Philadelphia MC. Peruto filed a lawsuit against the two companies claiming the audio was altered. The court documents stated “These illegally intercepted and digitized oral communications were then edited and leaked to the press so that Peruto’s off the record words would be manipulated against him and his client, Judge Brinkley”. Well the Roc is stood ten toes down on their claims and have since hired experts that have verified that the off the record statements were not doctored. “Even though they are recompressed into different formats, their content accurately reflects the dialogue recorded in the original evidence files” the new filings read. Presiding judge on the Roc Nation / Amazon suit, Judge McHugh, will soon rule if Peruto’s lawsuit can proceed or will be dismissed. — Photo: Brian Stukes/Getty Images

Source: Johnny Louis/WENN.com / WENN via NewsOne.com : For critics of hip-hop, Nipsey Hussle ’s recent murder was probably emblematic of how rappers are expected to die — young and Black. But while a handful of notable rappers have indeed had their lives cut short at an early age from senseless gun violence, many of the genre’s voices have gone on to grow older without being shot to death. But street life isn’t the only thing threatening the lives of rappers, as shown by hip-hop pioneer Kurtis Blow , who was reportedly set to undergo his second heart procedure. He joined a growing list of other aging rappers who have suffered from health issues. The 59-year-old’s wife released a statement on Monday saying her husband’s aortic artery repair procedure was not as successful as they previously thought and that Kurtis Blow required open heart surgery, HipHopDX reported . Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). “Kurtis got a bad CT. The aorta has dissected and it looks like he needs to go back to surgery,” a statement from Kurtis Blow’s wife said. “He’s back in ICU and they’re discussing surgery immediately. Emergency open heart surgery.” It was just last week when Kurtis Blow announced in an Instagram post that he was scheduled to undergo a medical procedure on his heart in Los Angeles. He followed that up with a post saying that his surgery was “a tremendous success” before announcing Sunday that he had begun physical therapy yesterday and occupational therapy and was “ on my way to a full recovery 100%.” Hey everyone- I started physical therapy yesterday and occupational therapy today. I am on my way to recovery 100%. Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes. I love you all and I will be back really… https://t.co/L92VL7b56q — Kurtis Blow (@KurtisBlow1) May 5, 2019 It was unclear what changed in between then and Monday when his wife released her statement. In an Instagram post last week, he said he was “preparing for an aortic artery repair procedure.” It was supposed to “stabilize the artery from further damage caused by the hematoma I contacted from my recent travels to China,” he wrote on May 1. Hematoma has been defined by Merriam-Webster as “a mass of usually clotted blood that forms in a tissue, organ, or body space as a result of a broken blood vessel. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Email Submit While rap music is a relatively young genre and typically associated with young people, Kurtis Blow’s grave condition was shining a light on the health issues that aging rappers were increasingly facing. The fact that most rappers, especially the pioneers, are Black and brown only exacerbates that reality since statistics show that African Americans are disproportionately affected by chronic health conditions. That was especially true when it comes to the heart. Rapper Craig Mack died last year at the age of 47 from congestive heart failure. Pioneering DJ Lovebug Starski also died last year following a heart attack. He was 57 years old. Hip-hop singer Nate Dogg died in 2011 after suffering a series of strokes in the years leading up to his death. He was 41. Cancer has also targeted rappers. Just last week it was reported that Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, a condition that has all but amounted to a death sentence for Black men in particular. He is 52 years old. GURU of Gang Starr died from cancer in 2010 at the age of 48 and Adam “MCA” Yauch from the Beastie Boys died from cancer in 2012. Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest died from complications from diabetes at the age of 47. Obviously, these ailments don’t only affect rappers, as shown last week’s death of filmmaker John Singleton at the age of 51 following complications from a stroke he had recently suffered. But, like with everybody else, as rappers get older, these health concerns will likely become more pronounced in their lives. He “declined to elaborate on the feud between the two, saying he didn’t want to jeopardize any potential prosecution, but he said the suspect approached Nipsey and others multiple times, engaging them in conversation,” CNN.com reported. Moore did say the dispute does not appear gang-related. Rest in power, Nipsey Hussle. Go-Go Protest Dubbed Moechella Fights Gentrification In The City The D.C. gentrifiers were no doubt chocking on their newly-opened coffee shop scones when the glorious go-go community of the DMV took over 14th and U Street. According to News One , a Save Chocolate City Protest was organized outside the Reeves Center in Northwest D.C. and more than 3,000 people came out to beat their feet, keep it gangsta, or shout out their hood against gentrification. At the event dubbed “Moechella,” honoring the city’s “kill moe” slang, iconic go-go band Backyard Band (BYB) brought the tunes for the evening. LAST NITE IN D.C. !! #MoeChella #DontMuteDC pic.twitter.com/hHM76YcFR4 — DCTOP20 (@DCTOP20) May 8, 2019 The event acts as the most recent demonstration against gentrification. Things reached a fever pitch back in March when a Metro PCS store known for playing go-go music from their speakers was under attack by soup cookie complainers. The new residents of the Shaw neighborhood complained that the go-go tunes were disruptive. After threats of legal action, PCS’ parent company, T-Mobile, ordered an end to the go-go music coming from the store, which had been playing there for almost 25 years. An online petition was started to keep the store playing go-go music and eventually a #DontMuteDC campaign was started on social media. This resulted in the first huge protest outside the Reeves Center in April where the go-go band TOB and rapper Wale appeared. The chief executive of T-Mobile, John Legere , took notice of D.C.’s demands and he eventually tweeted out that the Metro PCS store could continue playing go-go music and they would negotiate volume levels. I’ve looked into this issue myself and the music should NOT stop in D.C.! @TMobile and @MetroByTMobile are proud to be part of the Shaw community – the music will go on and our dealer will work with the neighbors to compromise volume. https://t.co/qXvwzmc24E — John Legere (@JohnLegere) April 10, 2019 Now, it seems D.C. residents are continuing the fight against gentrification with the thousands of people showing up on Tuesday. Hit the flip for more crankin’ clips of the demonstration and the beauty of Black organizing, celebration and fighting back.
Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty If you were one of the haters hoping Lil Nas X’s 15 minutes of fame was coming to an end you will find this news disappointing. The crafter of the viral hit “Old Town Road” rode into the Desus & Mero show where he partook in a fun game of “Country or Nah” where he punted on some very obviously country things and talked about the initial reception of his song and performed it live on television for the first time. Since its inception, “Old Town Road” has become a monster hit spawning a remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus , a cover by Keith Urban as well version of the song from the point of view from Game of Throne’s villain the Night King . Before he hit the stage to perform the song, the “king of the yee-haw agenda” chopped it with the Bronx natives who kept it real country by rocking cowboy hats with Desus jokingly pointing out “My wife left me, and she took the F-150,” and mero adding “again” before they spoke with the viral sensation. During their conversation, they touched on Lil Nas X performing at the Stagecoach Festival and becoming a Country Music star. When speaking on the initial reaction to “Old Town Road” catching fire on the internet X added: “Every day is like, OK, everything was a dream . . . That terrible situation ended up helping me,” As of Monday (May 6) “Old Town Road” is still the number one record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart holding off Taylor Swift’s struggle shimmy inducing new record and Panic! at the Disco. The single is poised to be one of the most dominant #1 songs of all-time putting in elite company with tracks like “The Boy is Mine,” “Shape of You” and “I Will Always Love You” just to name a few. As for the performance, Lil Nas X was ready backed by his live band he performed an updated version of the track.
