I’m so glad Miley Cyrus is back showing the sexy on Instagram. I still believe to this day out of all the females singers who all sound the same, Miley stands out as the only original. Sure sometimes her voice can get annoying, like Britney Spears, but at least when you hear something on the radio you know who it is. That being said, music is garbage now.
Source: georgeclerk / Getty He’s In The Middle Of A Complex Lawsuit With The Institution Of Higher Learning A Black political science professor, who was fired by the City University of New York, is currently tied up in a multi-million dollar federal lawsuit over lost Black history research. According to New York Daily News , Professor Joseph Wilson says decades of lectures, writings, correspondence, books and research, including some that can’t be replaced, was illegally seized by CUNY. The professor says years of research was boxed up and carted away by clueless CUNY security guards without warning in a series of warrant-less raids of his school offices. The drastic actions came after the celebrated professor was accused of enriching himself on the school’s dollar. Over the past several years since the the raids happened, Wilson has been fighting to save his Brooklyn College teaching job. He’s also tried with limited success to track down his items. Some were found tossed into random boxes, others were strewn across school shelves and plastic bags, and other items have completely disappeared. Wilson is seeking unspecified punitive and compensatory damages for his lost work in a lawsuit. He also is demanding CUNY dig up his property or pay him for what was lost. “All I want is justice. What gives people the right, for whatever alleged violations they used to fire me, to trash my history and my intellectual property?” Wilson told the Daily News . “The university has to be held accountable and apologize profusely and profoundly. They made some dastardly errors.” CUNY denies all allegations made against them by Wilson. The school said a neutral arbitrator found Wilson was appropriately terminated due to “serious misconduct” that included taking an additional $100,000 in compensation he wasn’t entitled to over the course of three years. He also allegedly submitted false documents to college officials. “We look forward to a full airing of all of the facts in this case, which clearly show that Mr. Wilson’s claims are without merit,” a spokesman said. “The lawsuit is built on false allegations.” Despite the allegations made by CUNY, Wilson definitely has a strong rep in the academic world. The 67-year-old was a leading expert on the history of Black working class and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first Black union. He’s also enjoyed a long tenured career as a political science professor at Brooklyn College, and he founded the Brooklyn College Center for Diversity and MultiCultural Studies, dedicated to increasing diversity among students, teachers and classroom topics. In 1997, he was also appointed director of the Graduate Center for Worker Education in lower Manhattan. Things took a shift for the downside when the “raid” was carried out at the Worker Educations Center in January 2012. “We were told not to move, that we couldn’t make any phone calls, or leave the office or speak to anyone,” said Wilson. Several months later, the suit says another seizure was carried out on the Brooklyn College campus where Wilson had two offices. Everything was taken, including his letters with poet and fellow teacher Allen Ginsberg , his correspondence with music legend Ray Charles , a transcript and notes on a previously undiscovered speech by Martin Luther King Jr. , and thousands more pages and items. Even his research into a death threat made against Civil Rights and labor organizer A. Philip Randolph (who was mailed a severed human hand) was taken. In addition to all this, Wilson also can’t find the bulk of his 40-year academic research, which independent scholars value at $12 to $14 million. Wilson filed his federal suit in 2017, but the complex case is still underway nearly two years later. For Wilson, the main goal is to recoup as much as his work as possible. He reflected on the experience saying: “I have to tell you, it was traumatic, shattering and world changing what happened, and I never believed that it could and I certainly didn’t think it would happen at CUNY. I amassed an incredible amount of documentary history on Black workers…a treasure trove on some of the great and the unknown civil rights leaders. How it is possible that all this is going to be erased?”

Leaders at the American Chemical Society believe it’s crucial that Brady’s journey and contributions to STEM don’t go unsung. The organization’s 2018 President Peter K. Dorhout believes that Brady’s story will serve as inspiration for the next generation of Black STEM leaders. “This landmark designation recognizes the outstanding accomplishments and leadership impact that Dr. Brady has had on the chemical profession,” said Dorhout in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I am proud to be an alumnus of the university that was part of his legacy — dreaming, designing and executing the creation of four outstanding and impactful chemistry programs that have each worked to ensure access to higher education and the chemical professions for so many young African-American men and women over the last century.” There was a designation ceremony that was held on February 5. A Louisville native, Dr. Brady received his bachelor’s degree in 1908 from Fisk University. Four years after graduating, he went on to pursue his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. Throughout his career, he held teaching roles at Tuskegee University, Tougaloo College, Howard University, and Fisk University. He chaired the chemistry departments at his alma mater Fisk and at Howard University as well. The University of Illinois isn’t the only institution that will receive a plaque dedicated to Dr. Brady. Other universities and colleges that he left a mark on will as well; including Fisk University, Tuskegee University, Howard University, and Tougaloo College. Why? It’s the question that all celebrity gossip fans and even hard news followers continue to ask when it comes to Jussie Smollett. Why on earth would he orchestrate an assault against himself in Chicago, as he stands accused of doing by the Chicago Police Department? On Thursday morning, Smollett turned himself into the police on a charge of falsifying an official report. This is a felony that could land the Empire actor behind bars for three years and it stems from an incident that he claimed took place around 2 a.m. on January 29. As you must know by now if you’re reading this, Smollett made national headlines by alleging that not only was he attacked on the way home from a late-night snack, but… The attackers were white. They yelled racial and anti-gay slurs in his direction. They screamed he was in “MAGA country.” They tied a rope around his neck. They poured bleach all over him. Based on interviews with two Nigerian brothers, who know Smollett well and who told cops he hired them to stage this event, along with evidence gathered via cell phone records and surveillance video, the police now believe none of the above happened. They think Smollett has been lying to us all. View Slideshow: Jussie Smollett: This is How He Staged His Assault So, againm, we return to the major question here: WHY? Initial reports alleged Smollett was getting written off Empire and this was a last-ditch attempt to save his job. During a press conference late this week, the police superintendent came right out and said Smollett committed this crime because he was upset about his salary. Neither of these explanations makes much sense. So TMZ has now offered up another. Sources have told this website that Smollett may have been inspired by an attack on the cousin of Empire creator Lee Daniels. Like Smollett, his cousin is gay. Lee shared a video on Instagram on January 10 calling out homophobia because, in that same post, the veteran producer wrote: “This past week my cousin was beat up for being gay and I am sick of hearing these stories.” Smollett has been an active member of the LGBTQ community for years and, as far as this theory goes, he was trying to alert the world to the rampant homophobia out there by making himself a very public victim. It’s worth emphasizing: This is just a theory. In a couple more updates to this crazy story: Smollett has been written out of the final Empire episodes of this season, but has not been officially fired. The siblings who have admitted to working with Smollett on this set-up told a grand jury on Wednesday that the $3,500 check they received from the actor was actually NOT a payment for their role in the act. They say it really was payment for help with personal training. Again: This story is downright crazy. And it doesn’t appear as if it will calm down any time soon.
