Bassist Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell visits earthquake-ravaged country. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Audrey Kim Linkin Park’s Dave “Phoenix” Farrell in Haiti Photo: Insider Images More than a year has passed since an earthquake ravaged Haiti, and, as is sadly the case with disasters like this, the focus of the world has shifted elsewhere, despite the fact that the recovery effort is still very much ongoing. But one group who hasn’t forgotten about the Haitian people is Linkin Park , who, through their Music for Relief charity — and in conjunction with the United Nations Foundation — are working to bring light to the nation … literally. They’ve begun a program to build solar-powered lights in many displacement camps (which are home to more than 1 million Haitians), and last week, though they were set to film a video for their new single “Iridescent,” the band sent bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell down to Port-au-Prince to check on the progress. “I just got back from Haiti last night,” Farrell said on the Los Angeles set of “Iridescent.” “I had gone over there to check on what we had been working on with Music for Relief, in conjunction with the United Nations Foundation. We’ve basically been working to install some solar-powered lighting in some of the camps there … the camp in particular that we visited had 40,000 people … and no electricity. “So, at night, women and children are very susceptible to violence, rape, all kinds of really awful things, even when they’re doing something as simple as trying to go to use the latrines, the restrooms, et cetera,” Farrell continued. “We’ve been putting solar-powered lighting in strategic areas, and we’ve found that not only has that lowered the crime rate, but it’s given the camps a place where kids can go and play in the evenings, and, in addition to that, we have students studying and reading at the lights at night.” And though Farrell said that he was “amazed” by the resiliency and spirit of the Haitian people, he realizes that bringing the nation back from the brink is an ongoing process — one that’s going to take a lot longer than most could imagine. But, with his bandmates, the U.N. and his fellow musicians at his side, Farrell is confident that, eventually, Haiti will recover. “We’ve always felt like music is a very inspiring and uniting force, and with Music for Relief, we’ve always wanted it to be something that’s more,” he said. “It’s not supposed to be ‘Linkin Park for Relief’: It is really supposed to be ‘Music for Relief.’ We’ve always felt that with a united group of people, you can do a lot more than just as individuals.” Related Artists Linkin Park

Jones has revealed that the Dipset will be releasing a new EP in July. “The difference is the respect level that’s there amongst all of us feels good, it feels hellified,” Jones — whose latest album, Capo, was released Tuesday — told Vibe.com . “We plan on putting out an EP on July 4th called Independence Day, so look forward to that.” Although various Dipset members have mentioned that the group is in the midst of securing a recording contract with Interscope Records, no deal has been confirmed yet. Jones’ previous album, Pray IV Reign, was released via Sony/Columbia Records in 2009. In an interview with Miss Info of Hot 97, the Harlem rapper speculated that Columbia released him from his contract — despite, Jones said, his owing the label $8 million — because of Jay-Z. A then-impending deal with Jay’s Roc Nation label ( Jay bought out his Def Jam contract in 2009) apparently hastened Jones’ exit. “They did a big deal over there … it was called Roc Nation,” Jones told Miss Info. “So they gave me one piece of paper that said I don’t owe them nothing, keep it stepping.” Though Jones never said Jay-Z’s name specifically, the implication is that rather than have Capo and Hova, whose relationship can be described as icy at best, have dealings with the same label, Columbia allowed Jones to walk away despite not recouping the money invested in his music. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Matt Elias Game Photo: MTV News Dr. Dre isn’t the only go-to producer that Los Angeles rapper the Game is keeping in his arsenal. “Red Nation,” the lead single from his forthcoming LP, The R.E.D. Album, was produced by Miami-based duo Cool & Dre. On the set of the Parris-directed “Red Nation” video in downtown L.A., the rapper born Jayceon Taylor had high praise for his Grammy-nominated collaborators. “Cool & Dre, those are like two of my brothers in hip-hop, man,” Game told MTV News. “From ‘Hate It or Love It’ to ‘Red Nation,’ ‘Big Dreams,’ they did a lot of my songs, man. They did [my 2008 track] ‘Camera Phone’ with Ne-Yo — those guys always come through.” The aforementioned “Hate It or Love It,” from Game’s debut album, The Documentary, rose to #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2005 and featured his one-time G-Unit ally — and now nemesis — 50 Cent. The Game is keeping friendlier company on “Red Nation,” which boasts a chorus performed by Lil Wayne. Cool & Dre already had the Young Money boss in mind when they submitted the track to the Game. “They called me on the phone and they was like, ‘I got a song, it’s “Red Nation,” and you’re going to love it and you put Weezy on the hook and it’s going to be crazy, right?!’ ” Game explained. “That’s how they always kind of make the song, and then tell you who they think you should put on it. It’s just fun to see it come to life, man.” Keeping with the all-red-everything theme of the tune, the Game debuted a new haircut at the video shoot, a maroon — or bright red, depending on who you ask — Mohawk. “I kinda wanted to do something new for the day,” the Game said of the ‘do. “I think I’mma stick with it, man. I been getting a lot of rave reviews. The ladies seems to love it. Couple of haters out there. But if I dyed my hair green or kept it black, they’d still be out there waiting to hate on something. But we need the haters, man. Without the haters we can’t be who we are.” The Game has been working on The R.E.D. Album at least since 2009, when he told MTV News it would be his most lyrical effort. Justin Bieber may have recently turned 17 years-old and is on the brink of becoming a man but last night he proved he is just on big kid at heart. The singing sensation has taken his tour to London and while the capital has plenty to keep a tourist entertained Justin seemed eager to visit a toy store and seemed to thoroughly enjoy trying out the games on show. Justin, who has caused Bieber fever to sweep the nation, drawing crowds wherever he goes across the nation enjoyed a Indian meal with Jaden and Willow Smith before heading to a the famous Hamleys tour store. The teenager ate at La Porte Des Indes restaurant with the Smiths, including with Jada Pinkett before indulging his childish side at the toy store. Justin and the Smith children seemed in awe of the goods on offer at the Regent street store and it wasn’t long before the 17-year-old found himself in the teddy department, perhaps picked out a cuddly toy for his girlfriend Selena Gomez. Willow and a friend scoured the shelves looking at different goods while Justin was given a guided tour by an enthusiastic helper dressed in a Little Bo Peep costume. Just a couple of big kids: Jaden and Willow , who joined Bieber at dinner before heading to the toy shop also seemed excited about visiting the store As ever the Smith children were looking quirky and cool, with Jaden in a pair of jeans, leather ,suede and camouflage coat and a cap. Willow opted for a pair of cut-off denim shorts pink and red print tighs and a leather jacket with a headscarf wrapped around her head. And the group didn’t leave empty handed and Justin showed his childish side leaving the shop with a giant toy gun which he fired at photographers waiting outside. Amazing toys: Although she has been performing to hundreds of thousands of fans Willow still got excited over a toy she liked the look of Earlier in the day Justin had visited Madame Tussauds in London to unveil his waxwork – but fans were left stunned by the model which bore little resemblance to their pop star. The singer, who has over eight million followers on Twitter, has been causing chaos since arriving in the U.K. with an army of fans stalking his every move leading. When he was in London the singer was warned he could have been arrested for ‘inciting a riot’ if he left his hotel because of the volume of fans who had gathered outside. For fans who missed out on tickets to his tour you can get your hands on Justin Bieber fashion dolls, which come in three different outfits, a street look, red carpet attire and an awards ceremony look.
