Busted! Police Give White Women A Free Pass On Wearing Hoodies But Kicked Out Black Men

Continued here:

T he police always deny that they have a racial double standard, but an experiment at a Tennessee mall tells a different story. See Also: Cops Defend Unconstitutional Stop And Frisk Tactics As HBCU President Says He Was Racially Profiled A social media post from four white women on Saturday exposed the Memphis Police and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for racially profiling a group of African-American men, CBS News reported. This all stems from a video recorded by a former journalist that showed mall security and law enforcement officials stopping four young Black men for wearing hoodies at Wolfchase Galleria in Cordova on Nov. 3. They were escorted out of the mall with at least one of them in handcuffs. The women said they wore hoodies in the same mall without any incident. Racial profiling is a problem nationwide for Black people, but seldom is there any justice for violations. Recourse options are often limited, even when evidence suggests that discrimination occurred. Memphis residents unfortunately lack a functioning police oversight board to address their grievances in this case, Nashville activist Theeda Murphy told NewsOne. “There’s no way to do an independent investigation. In the aftermath of the mall incident, Memphis’ Black community is pushing to have the oversight board fully functioning,” said Murphy, who was involved in the successful effort on Election Day to pass an amendment to create a Community Oversight Board in Nashville that oversees the police. “If a security guard spotted us with our hoods up, they very politely asked us to take them down. One guard said it was because they need to be able to identify everybody’s faces. So we said, ‘Sure,’ took them down, walked on, and put the hoods back up a bit later. Repeat. No threats. Point made,” the Facebook post said. Here’s what happened to the Black men: Kevin McKenzie was inside the Wolfchase Galleria Mall in Memphis when he filmed a security guard at the mall detain a black teen for violating the mall’s dress code policy because he wore a hoodie. When McKenzie inquired further he too was detained. This is outrageous. pic.twitter.com/w0voiu8bth — Simar (@sahluwal) November 14, 2018 “At least a couple of those officers were Black, which shows you that it’s not a Black and white thing but a systemic thing,” Murphy said. “There’s an issue with policing and how officers are trained, how officers see who is a threat and who isn’t. It doesn’t matter if the officers are Black or white because they all get the same training.” SEE ALSO: Andrew Gillum Fires Back At Wannabe Dictator Donald Trump Stacey Abrams Campaign Files Federal Lawsuit For Every Vote To Be Counted [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3836445″ overlay=”true”]

First Black NHL Player To Be Inducted Into League’s Hall Of Fame

N early six decades after breaking racial barriers in the NHL, an athlete is finally receiving the recognition that he has long deserved. 83-year-old Willie O’Ree —the first Black player in the National Hockey League—will be inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame on Monday, the New York Times reported. O’Ree, 83, the league’s first black player, is being honored not just for the historical significance of his career, but also for his decades of working with young players all over North America https://t.co/mXvQ8w2rpc — NYT Sports (@NYTSports) November 10, 2018 O’Ree entered the league in 1958 and played for the Boston Bruins, the news outlet writes. During his career—which lasted for 24 seasons—he encountered the unthinkable all due to the color of his skin. There was an incident where during a brawl an opponent knocked his teeth out with a hockey stick and there was another time where unruly fans attempted to pull him into the stands and attack him. “I heard that N-word so many times that I just let it go in one ear and out the other,” O’Ree told the news outlet. “I never fought because of racial slurs or remarks. I fought because guys speared me, butt-ended me, crosschecked me and things of that nature. Otherwise I would have spent every game in the penalty box.” Despite those obstacles, O’Ree persevered because he knew that stepping on the ice to compete was something bigger than him and he was breaking barriers for Black athletes who would follow in his footsteps. After retiring from hockey, O’Ree spearheaded several youth programs in an effort to diversify the sport. O’Ree’s legacy has inspired the generations of Black athletes who have come behind him. “Willie O’Ree’s story must not be forgotten,” Karl Subban , a father of three Black NHL draft picks, told Sports Illustrated . “He has made it possible for my boys to have the NHL dream and to believe they could achieve it. He changed hockey which is now for everyone. Hockey needed him and so does the Hockey Hall of Fame. The time is right!” There remains a lack of diversity in the NHL. According to the New York Times , 97 percent of the league is white. Watch Racist White Women Harass An Andrew Gillum Supporter: ‘Go Back To Africa!’

T here has been tons of talk about white women supporting sexist, hateful white men like Roy Moore  in Alabama and Donald Trump while Black women save elections. However, this shouldn’t be a shocker, white women did not vote for Obama at a majority in both of the presidential elections . In addition, 52 percent of white women voted for Donald “Grab ’em by the Pussy” Trump in 2016, even with a white woman candidate on the ballot. And so it followed that in the midterm elections on Tuesday, white women voted Republican at a majority in Texas, Georgia and of course Florida. White women: footsoldiers of the patriarchy. See Also: Andrew Gillum Barely Loses Florida Governor Race By The Slimmest of Margins In the two videos below, two racist women claimed a Black voter, who appears to be the one filming them, only voted for Gillum because he’s Black and “identity politics.” While hollering, they bond over their bigotry and start chanting “count our vote” in a stereotypical accent. One of them adds, “Go back to Africa!” These women are haranguing the only black person here, standing on a bench holding a Gillum shirt. “Because he’s black” pic.twitter.com/xgJ1qruoip — Djinn (@ARAEveryDay) November 9, 2018 Hours later, still mocking anyone black pic.twitter.com/Jtptk4GzB7 — Djinn (@ARAEveryDay) November 9, 2018 Hopefully, social media will do their magical job and expose these racists. In addition, we are hoping all the votes will be counted. DeSantis’s “victory” margin has shrunken to 0.47 percentage points, according to  The New York Times , . If it stays that was or decreases, there will be a recount. Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes was reportedly sued by Florida Gov. Rick Scott ’s senate campaign and the National Republican Senatorial Committee for “incompetence” because she has not announced how many votes are left to count. If you haven’t already guessed, Broward County is predominately Democratic. Clearly, the Republicans are afraid of every vote being counted. Black America ‘Did The Thing’ With High Voter Turnout On Election Day

See the original post here:

S prinkled among the millions of people in Georgia who were forced to wait as long as four hours just to cast their ballots were devoted African-American voters, many of whom couldn’t afford to take off that much time from work. But the chance at helping to make history by electing Stacey Abrams as the country’s first Black woman governor was something they just couldn’t pass up. In the face of numerous obstacles from the big bag of racist tricks intended to suppress the Black vote, the display of perseverance was impressive,  LaTosha Brown , a co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund, told NewsOne this week. See Also : ‘Dirty Tricks’: Stacey Abrams Voters Won’t Be Denied As Brian Kemp Rigs Voting Machines “I am very, very proud of Black people. Black folks did the thing,” said Brown who spent Election Day in Georgia helping to monitor and address voter suppression efforts. Brown glowingly recalled how African-American voters came out in droves to elect dozens of candidates who looked like them and to vote for tangible change across the country, but especially in places such as Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. “The turnout, the energy, the way I saw Black people working on the ground — listen, we did our part,” she added. Just finished canvassing in west Atlanta with Killer Mike. @BlackVotersMtr pic.twitter.com/DiZgQWrCWd — LaTosha Brown (@MsLaToshaBrown) November 6, 2018 Early figures supported Brown’s turnout observations. Across the country, overall turnout was at a 50-year high , according to NPR. More than 47 percent of eligible voters cast a ballot. Exit poll figures also showed that, indeed, African-Americans turned out in significant numbers. Black voters accounted for about 12 percent of the overall turnout—comparable to the previous midterm high of 13 percent in 2014, ABC News reported. Although several Black candidates made history, including Lucy McBath , Ayanna Pressley and Jahana Hayes , two of the biggest prizes have so far eluded Black voters. Andrew Gillum , who was competing to become Florida’s first Black governor, failed to win his race , while Abrams in Georgia was pushing for a recount or runoff election after a close race riddled with voter suppression. “Don’t write us off. We ain’t out the game yet,” Brown stated with deep conviction, adding that those two races were still major victories in Southern states stained by a blood-soaked history of white supremacy. Georgia! It ain’t OVER! We still need all hands on deck. We need folks to show up and demand Kemp count every vote. Show up this morning at 10:00am at the state capitol room #203. We can’t let them steal this one! https://t.co/3OPihD5cBd pic.twitter.com/5ULv1TK3Dr — LaTosha Brown (@MsLaToshaBrown) November 8, 2018 Brown also counted the passage of two key amendments — one each in Florida and Nashville — among the key victories for African-Americans. “They were some key critical wins that Black voters absolutely played a significant role,” Brown said. Amendment 4 automatically restored voting rights to 1.4 million ex-felons across Florida. Under the state’s felon voting ban, approximately 21.5 percent of African Americans couldn’t vote before Tuesday. In Nashville, Amendment 1 created a new citizen-led panel to hold the police accountable. Voters overwhelmingly passed the amendment after “a decades-long push from Black leaders in the city,” the Tennessean reported. Those successes didn’t come easy because of widespread voter suppression efforts against the Black people. From her vantage point at ground zero, Brown witnessed many of the suppression attempts in real-time. At a polling station that normally has 30 voting machines, there were just 15, she recalled. There were places that didn’t have power cords for voting machines and others where aging voting equipment was inoperable. Brown said numerous Black voters told her they pressed Abrams’ name before their machines instead selected the name of her Republican opponent,  Brian Kemp , who was overseeing the election as secretary of state. “I’m from Alabama where they are experts at voter suppression and intimidation strategies,” Brown said. “I’ve never seen anything like I witnessed in Georgia.” As a voting rights activist, she has demanded from officials to know why n 2018 Black people were still being mistreated at the polls and required to overcome voting rights obstacles in a nation supposed to be a democracy. “Where is the support from the freaking government, so that our votes are fucking counted?” she demanded. “Why is it a struggle for us to cast our damn vote?” SEE ALSO: Judge Rejects Brian Kemp’s Georgia Absentee Ballot Suppression Attempt Stacey Abrams Campaign Speaks Out On Trifling Brian Kemp Trying To Claim He Won Georgia [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3835568″ overlay=”true”]

In an upcoming interview with ABC’s Good Morning   Robin Roberts , she opens about her past fertility issues and a devastating miscarriage she experienced 20 years ago. “I felt lost and alone and I felt like I failed, because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them,” Obama, 54, said. “We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken,” adding, “So, that’s one of the reasons why I think it’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen, and the biological clock is real.” Adding, “I think it’s the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work, and how they don’t work.” This is the first time Mrs. Obama has publicly spoken about her fertility issues. . @MichelleObama opens up to @RobinRoberts in revealing new interview; says she felt “lost and alone” after suffering miscarriage 20 years ago. When asked why she shared that part of her life with the public, Obama stressed that she wanted for people to understand the work that couples need to do in order to stay together. “For those young people out there who think that marriage is supposed to be easy. And marriage counseling for us was one of those ways that we learned to talk out our differences,” she said. “I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other, we work on our marriage, and we get help with our marriage when we need it.” In addition, she described falling in love with Mr Obama one summer night in Chicago. “As soon as I allowed myself to feel anything for Barack,” she writes, “the feelings came rushing – a toppling blast of lust, gratitude, fulfillment, wonder.” Swoon. Source: Mark Wilson / Getty Mrs. Obama also had some choice words about President Trump in her book, stressing that she will never forgive him for starting the Birther Movement, which questioned the citizenship of her husband, the first Black president of the United States. “The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed,” she wrote. “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.” People took to Twitter to commend Michelle Obama for being so candid and open about her life. “One of the worst things we do as women is not share the truth about our bodies, and how they work.” I am so grateful Black women, like Michelle Obama and Serena Williams, are being so honest about the barriers many people face to become parents. https://t.co/0Co4bZ82Qa — Evette Dionne (@freeblackgirl) November 9, 2018 Michelle Obama.
