Many a season has been telegraphed by The Bachelorette spoilers beforehand, but this one feels a whole lot different for several reasons. Thanks to the nature of the Internet and the (purported) winner himself, we may be witnessing a relationship that was over before it began. If you dig hard enough, Bachelorette spoilers are out there every year, and not that hard to find … but only if you’re so inclined. You typically have to at least go out of your way to visit one of the notable celebrity gossip sites that post this inside information. Not this season. Thanks, ironically, to the show’s increasing popularity with age on social media, keeping secrets a lot is harder for producers. As such, numerous celebrity news sites – including perhaps the biggest of them all in TMZ – revealed the ending very early. Not just rumor-style “spoilers” either. We’re talking about photos that reveal the final rose recipient as none other than (spoiler) … Garrett Yrigoyen. Okay, so what’s the problem? Don’t we often watch the show for the drama and all the twists and turns, even if we know the outcome? Yes, but again, this season is a bit different, because … well, Garrett Yrigoyen has been under intense scrutiny since day one. If you missed the controversy surrounding Garrett’s Instagram activity, the guy “liked” a whole bunch of things that are pretty offensive. We’re talking anti-immigration, fat-shaming, and transphobic memes, and pics suggesting Parkland student David Hogg is a “crisis actor.” Those posts originated from a conservative Instagram account titled MericaSupplyCo, not Garrett, but dude hit the heart icon often. AGAIN, hasn’t this happened before? Aren’t off-screen social media scandals involving contestants almost an annual thing? Yes. But … As was the case last year with Lee Garrett’s racist tweets surfacing before Rachel Lindsay’s season, ABC had to know about it. In Lee’s case, he might have even been cast because of it, knowing it would inflame racial tensions before be was dispatched. Pretty bad if you think about it, but at least the point was for him to be dispatched, be labeled a racist, then beg for forgiveness. In Garrett Yrigoyen’s case, his cringe-worthy likes are a much bigger issue because … he’s not here to get kicked off the show. He received Becca’s first impression rose on the season premiere, a distinction that often goes to eventual final rose winners. Garrett Yrigoyen is also being given very positive, go-the-distance style treatment from the editors in general. Cringe-worthy. After reports of Yrigoyen’s Instagram activity went viral this spring, he went into damage control mode and posted an apology. According to Garrett, he didn’t realize “the power of a mindless double tap,” and said this is “not a true reflection of me and my morals.” Becca, too, came to his defense. Kufrin said all the right things, encouraging the audience to be “open” to every contestant, despite all the noise on social media. She cleverly mentioned that filming the show was great in that it let her get to know the guys “without any added fodder or any distraction.” Sticking to the script, Becca swears she fell in love with two men and people need to watch The Bachelorette to see it all play out. She promises she got to know the “real” Garrett, but seamlessly pivots to the rest of the men and the “journey” as a whole. All of which rings hollow. Becca’s attempts to shield Garrett from backlash – and distance herself from him – are as obvious and desperate as it gets. Will it work in the end? That remains to be seen. Will Bachelor Nation accept this man as her true love, rather than a closeted bigot and misogynist? Can Becca herself reconcile her undoubtedly strong feelings for Garrett with the fact that he’s a racist conspiracy theorist? Teen Mom is filled to the brim with sadness, right? All kinds of sadness too — we’ve seen children be neglected, we’ve seen the parents deal with drug addiction and domestic violence and prison. But there’s one story that pretty much takes the sadness cake when it comes to this show, and that’s the story of Leah Messer’s daughter, Ali . Ali is one of the twins Leah had as a teenager, and she suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy. On the show, we’ve seen Leah and Ali’s father, Corey Simms, struggle to figure out what was wrong with Ali, and we saw how heartbreaking it was when they realized how serious her condition is. We’ve seen them be told time and time again that she needs to use her wheelchair and to wear a helmet and to get help, and we’ve seen them slacking on that so she could have a more “normal” childhood. It’s the nature of Ali’s condition that as time goes on, the disease will get worse and worse . We can’t even imagine how difficult it must be to watch from Leah’s perspective. But thanks to this ridiculously tragic story she shared on Twitter, we can get a little glimpse of it. “As I’m doing Ali girls makeup she looks at me and says ‘Mom, what’s it like to see with two eyes?’ …” she wrote. “Everyday I wish I could take her place but I know there’s a greater purpose!” she added. “Just broke my heart.” … Ouch. Way back when Ali and Gracie were toddlers, Leah began noticing that there was something wrong with Ali’s eyes and legs — those were the first signs of her disease. Since then, Ali’s been wearing glasses, and now it’s clear that she’s not even able to see out of one eye. As Leah explained after this initial tweets, “this is the first time she’s asked” anything about her eyes, and “she’s starting to ask a lot of questions like this.” Thankfully though, Leah seems to have a good attitude about it all. Someone told her that Ali loves her life and she wouldn’t even want to switch places with Leah — which, yeah, obviously, it’s not like Leah was proposing a Freaky Friday scheme. “Ohh for sure!!” she replied. “I don’t think of it negatively at all. It’s just like, dayyyyuum. Sooo many take the little things in life for granted.” She also retweeted a bunch of nice messages about Ali. Things like “You continue to do everything you can for her and your love for her shines. Some days are tough, but always focus on her smile and cherish every memory.” And also “She will be phenomenal because of her struggles. She will not struggle in vain. She has purpose. Kim Kardashian has taken a break from stripping nearly all the way down to address the most pressing issue currently facing our country: Gun control. In the wake of 17 people being gunned down at a school in Florida on Wednesday, the reality star has chosen to use her social media platform for something worthwhile right now. We’re not saying photos such as THIS ONE are not worthwhile, of course. But they are certainly meaningless in the wake of this horrific school shooting. “We owe it to our children and our teachers to keep them safe while at school,” Kim Tweeted last night, adding: “Prayers won’t do this: action will. Congress, please do your job and protect Americans from senseless gun violence.” The mother of three is reacting here to the way in which most politicians offer “thoughts and prayers” after a shooting of this nature. But we didn’t vote them into office to deliver hollow platitudes, Kim is arguing. We voted them into office to actually pass legislation. On Wednesday afternoon, a 19-year old named Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He used an automatic rifle to end the lives of these 17 people, while injuring many others. In the hours since this tragedy took place, a debate has once again arisen over whether new gun control measures ought to be put in place. Along with her own message on the topic, Kardashian re-Tweeted a number of other points people made on Twitter in regard to this contentious issue. To wit: This actually isn’t the first time Kardashian has pushed for gun control of some kind. In November of 2016, she talked to Kendall Jenner about the issue, emphasizing how important it is for celebrities to get involved in various political debates. Just consider the reach they have, she stated. People continue to senselessly die. When will these gun laws be changed?!?!?!?!!!!?????” she asked on Twitter at the time, adding: “The fact that anyone can so easily access guns is so scary & after all of the devastating loss the Senate should have not failed us!!!” We almost never say this about Kim Kardashian, but… we agree. We agree completely with everything she is saying here. In televised remarks from the White House Diplomatic Reception Room on Thursday morning, President Donald Trump said he was committed to making schools safe and to tackle the issue of “mental health” in America. He did not say anything about gun control. “I want to speak now directly to America’s children, especially those who feel lost alone confused or even scared,” he added. “I want you to know that you are never alone, and you never will be. “You have people who care about you, who love you and who will do anything at all to protect you. “If you need help, turn to a teacher, a family member, a local police officer or a faith leader. Answer hate with love. Answer cruelty with kindness.” That sounds terrific in theory. In practice, answering an automatic weapon with kindness will simply get you killed. Mickey Jones, the beloved character actor who amassed more than 100 credits over the course of his career has passed away at the age of 76. A statement from Jones’ family indicates that he had been battling an illness that resulted in several hospitalizations in recent months. The statement did not offer any specifics regarding the nature of the illness. While Jones’ name may not be familiar, if you’re a film and television fan, you’re almost certainly familiar with his face. He belongs to the class of character actors so instantly recognizable that they’re known to elicit shouts of “that guy!” from audiences. Jones’ imposing size, signature beard, and tremendous versatility made him an intimidating presence in crime dramas and an unexpected source of laughs in lighthearted comedies. While it might be his role as Tim Allen’s rugged, yet unexpectedly sensitive friend Pete Bilker on Home Improvement for which Jones is best remembered, the gentle giant left his mark on countless esteemed projects over the years. In addition to his work on such iconic television shows as MASH, Entourage , and Bones , Jones turned in memorable performances in such films as Total Recall, Sling Blade , and Tin Cup . Prior to his acting career, Jones made a name for himself as a drummer for various high-profile rock and roll acts. Before making the switch to Hollywood, he backed such legends as Kenny Rogers and Bob Dylan. In 2009, Jones published a memoir entitled That Would Be Me . The title was taken from his Home Improvement character’s signature catchphrase. Thousands of tributes to Jones have been pouring in on social media since his death was announced Wednesday afternoon. It’s a testament to the length and diversity of his career that he’s being remembered by film and television fans from various generations, and for projects as varied as Baywatch and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia .
