‘I would never go through something and do something that wasn’t real or I didn’t believe in,’ Humphries tells ‘Access Hollywood.’ By Christina Garibaldi Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images It’s been just over three months since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from NBA star Kris Humphries. The much-publicized demise of their 72-day marriage played out in the last season of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York” and last month while co-hosting “Live!” with Kelly Ripa, Kim opened up about her whirlwind romance. “It’s so sad,” she said. “I would never wish anyone to go through a divorce, but then again after what I went through, you don’t really know until you’re in this person’s shoes … When I see other people when I might not understand their situation, now I really just step back because you don’t really know what they’re going through.” Now it’s his turn to speak out. In his first in-depth interview since the NBA lockout, Humphries tells “Access Hollywood” that his love and marriage with Kardashian was genuinely real. “To me it was real,” Humphries explained. “I would never go through something and do something that wasn’t real or I didn’t believe in, so I can really only speak for myself in terms of that.” Humphries, who is now seeking an annulment to erase his brief marriage to the reality star on the grounds of fraud, revealed that his faith, family and, of course, basketball helped him get through his breakup. “I’m in a great place,” Humphries said in the interview, which begins airing Tuesday (February 7). “Above all, my faith in God and just how close my family is and then the fact that luckily we didn’t get locked out all season and we’re playing basketball. Basketball is where you can go and just not think about anything and just let loose. I always tell people basketball is like my therapy. Some people talk to psychologists, I just need to go play basketball; that’s it.” Since the breakup, Kim has remained single, but hopeful in still finding love. “I definitely tried everything I felt like I could … I want babies,” Kardashian told Ripa. “I want forever love.” So is Kris ready to get back into the dating game? “I’m not dating anyone right now. What do they say, my girlfriend is Spalding?” Humphries said, referring to being committed to basketball. Do you think Kris and Kim’s marriage was real? Let us know in the comments. As accomplished as NBA legend Bill Russell was on the court, he was also a giant off the court. Why else would President Obama see fit to present Russell with a Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in 2010? On the hardwood, Bill Russell was the cornerstone of the Boston Celtics’ dynasty of the 1960s, winning an unprecedented 11 championships in his 13 seasons. A skilled shotblocker, Russell revolutionized NBA defensive concepts. A five-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a 12-time All-Star, Russell averaged 22.5 rebounds per game and led the league in rebounding four times. He had 51 boards in one game, 49 in two others and a dozen consecutive seasons of 1,000 or more rebounds. William Felton Russell was born on February 12, 1934, in Monroe, Louisiana. His family later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where Russell would go on to attend the University of San Francisco, where he blossomed. Russell would lead the University of San Francisco to 56 consecutive victories and NCAA Championships in 1955 and 1956. Russell was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 1955. Boston Celtics Coach and General Manager Red Auerbach drafted Russell to the Celtics in 1956, but Russell didn’t join the Celtics until December because he was a member of the 1956 U.S. Olympic basketball team, which won a gold medal at the Melbourne Games in November. After another NBA Championship in 1965-66, Red Auerbach retired, and Russell took over as player-coach the following season, becoming the first African-American coach in the league. He led the Celtics to a 60-21 regular-season record, but Boston finally had their streak of championships snapped when they lost to a powerful Philadelphia 76ers team in the Eastern Division Finals. Having witnessed racism and all its ugliness firsthand as a child growing up in segregated Louisiana, Russell took public stands against discrimination throughout his career. Before the 1961–62 NBA season, Russell refused to play in an exhibition game in Lexington, Kentucky when he and his black teammates were refused service at a local restaurant. Russell also joined other prominent black athletes like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in publicly supporting Muhammad Ali’s decision to refuse to be drafted. Until the ascent of Michael Jordan in the 1980s and ’90s, Russell was considered by many as the greatest player in the history of the NBA.
JaVale McGee is one of the lesser known amazing personalities that the NBA has to offer. This is a guy, mind you, who despite playing for the perennially irrelevant Washington Wizards has somehow found a way to leave his mark on The Association time after time after time just by virtue of being himself. How, you ask? Well, remember the time he divided America with a simple alley-oop to himself?
