Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t : Texas Woman Sentenced To Five Years In Prison For Voting

  A Texas Woman Is Facing 5 Years For Voting Crystal Mason, 43, was slapped with a five-year prison sentence for voting in the 2016 presidential election while being on probation. She had recently been released from prison for a 2012 tax fraud conviction after pleading guilty to falsely inflating returns for her clients when her mother convinced her to vote in the election. Still on community supervision at the time of the election but no one, including her probation officer, told her that meant she wasn’t allowed to vote. So she was then  charged with illegally casting a ballot in Tarrant County, Tex. and sentenced to five years. “You think I would jeopardize my freedom? You honestly think I would ever want to leave my babies again? That was the hardest thing in my life to deal with. Who would — as a mother, as a provider — leave their kids over voting?” Mason said in a statement.   Continue reading →

NBA superstar Anthony Davis has made his unwillingness to shave his unibrow off very clear over the years so it’s surprising to see the footage of the 25-year-old post a video on his instagram account doing just that. In the video, he can be heard stating that he’s a ‘new AD’ and ‘new Brow’ while raising the razor to his eyebrow area, then immediately the camera cuts off before he adjusts it to show a cleaned up and neat set of brows. Given the timing of the video (April Fools) and Davis’ history of social media pranks its hard to say whether or not the footage is legit or just another joke.   Continue reading →

Everyone who saw her came to love Mette Towley after seeing her dance with Pharrell from a music video to the NBA All Star Game. Now, she’s teamed up with beloved model Ashley Graham for an absolutely tantalizing video that features the two lovely ladies showing off their dance moves while putting on some makeup. We all wish we could dance as effortlessly as Ms. Towley, and it seems impossible, but Graham seems to do a pretty good job of keeping up with the moves. Zeke Upshaw of the Grand Rapids Drive died just days after he was seen lying face down during a game against the Long Island Nets. He’s believed to have gone into cardiac arrest. He was just 26-years-old. Upshaw’s mother, Jewel Upshaw, has since released a statement on his passing. “After continued efforts from the medical team at Spectrum Health, Zeke made his transition at 11:16 a.m. To family, friends, teammates, coaches, fans and confidants, thank you for all your prayers and support during this most difficult time. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time. Details of his memorial will be announced at a later date. Source: Prince Williams / Getty Trey Songz surrendered himself to the LAPD on Monday morning to face a felony domestic violence charge, innolving a woman named, Andrea Buera. According to TMZ , he is accused of striking her while they were out partying in L.A. last month during NBA All-Star weekend. See the previous report by TMZ below: Via TMZ Law enforcement sources tell us the woman filed a police report claiming Trey hit her in the face Saturday night while they were attending a Hollywood Hills party. She claims Trey got upset because she was talking to another man, and hit her during an argument. We’re told she left the party on her own to go to a hospital, and talked to police soon afterward. We’re told her injuries were minor. Songz, was with his attorney Shawn Holley when he turned himself in. He was then booked at 6AM and released shortly after 8 AM, once he posted a $50,000 bond. He recently posted a brief statement on his Twitter account, saying he is being “lied on and falsely accused for someone’s personal gain,” and that he “won’t be speaking too much more on this” subject. Source: Jack Arent / Getty On Tuesday, basketball extraordinaire LeBron James had some choice words for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The NCAA is currently under FBI investigation for corruption. Athletes from more than 20 Division I men’s basketball programs are allegedly breaking NCAA rules due to illegal recruiting, and many of the sport’s top players and coaches could face punishment. Lebron acknowledged that he doesn’t know the details of the case or how the NCAA played a hand in the matter, but when it came to actually caring about their players, he called B.S. “The NCAA is corrupt, we know that,” he said . “Sorry, it’s going to make headlines, but it’s corrupt.” You can check out more of what LeBron had to say below.   LeBron James gave his thoughts on the “corrupt” NCAA: https://t.co/P4Twd8q0qR ( : @Cavs ) pic.twitter.com/03t87Rsjgb — Yahoo Sports NBA (@YahooSportsNBA) February 27, 2018 Lebron went straight to the NBA after high school in the 2003 draft. Now, since 2006, NBA draftees have to be at least 19 years old and be one year removed from high school to be eligible for the league. This leads most kids fresh out of high school to go to the NCAA. Lebron is all about alternatives. He spoke of his support for expanding the NBA’s G League, which is sort of like a developmental league before the pros. “I just looked at it like the farm league, like in baseball,” Lebron said. “Or you look at pros overseas; some of those guys get signed at 14, but they get put into this farm system where they’re able to grow and be around other professionals for three or four years. Then, when they’re ready, they hit the national team, or when they’re ready, they become a pro.” With the NCAA under tight pressure and the biggest basketball player in the league over your shoulder, change might come sooner than we think.
