Confederate Rally In Stone Mountain Brings Supporters And Protesters Hundreds of people showed up at Stone Mountain, Georgia in support and protest of the Confederate Flag. Via 11 Alive : Organizers intended for this to be a calm and respectful rally and, for the most part, it was – though a counter protest caused a few moments of tension where it looked like a fight could break out at any moment. People who came to celebrate their heritage looked hate right in the eye with disgust when an admitted and adamant member of the KKK came to the event. They made it clear that he was not welcome to the crowd’s chants of “Go away KKK”. “Look at your heritage,” one man said while stepping on the confederate flag in front of several flag supporters. “Don’t waste your time with him,” a flag supporter said to other members of the crowd attempting the calm the situation. Some tense and profane moments were shared between the groups with one ant-flag protester calling the crowd racists. Despite the tension, police kept any fights from breaking out and no one was arrested during the events. “[They’re] trying to instigate the crowd – that could cause some problems,” John Bankhead of Stone Mountain Police said. “I hope it settles down soon.” This turmoil was not what organizers wanted to happen – though most of the rally was peaceful. 11Alive spoke to Nick Stewart who came with an open mind and left with this impression: “I was almost expecting to see a lot of white sheets but it hasn’t been like that at all,” Stewart said. “They say it’s about heritage – not hate. It’s been peaceful.” One Black woman even brought her grandchildren to support the flag that was a symbol for racism and slavery… But a white man took a stand against the racist symbol and burned the flag in front of Confederate supporters: And then… Is this the Twilight Zone??? BOSSIP’s Exclusive Visit To The Set Of Goosebumps Starring Jack Black Last year, BOSSIP was lucky enough to score an exclusive visit to the set of the upcoming film “Goosebumps” starring Jack Black! Shot in quaint Conyers, GA (in addition to Dekalb School of the Arts in Atlanta) “Goosebumps” will bring one of the all-time most popular series of children’s books to big screen version. BOSSIP got a chance to talk to the cast (Jack Black, Odeya Rush, Dylan Minnette, and Ryan Lee) and observe several scenes being shot, we we’re very impressed with everyone’s performances and also how immersive and detailed the set was. In talking to costume designer Julian Makovsky and make-up artist Fionagh Cush, it’s very clear that they were committed to creating the most intricate and realistic-looking monsters possible for the big screen. Spike Lee Defends Controversial “Chiraq” Movie Title Spike Lee is Ray Charles to the critiques… Via HuffingtonPost Movie director Spike Lee, known for films that deal frankly with racial issues, appeared in Chicago on Thursday to defend his planned movie about the city, after its reported title, “Chiraq,” was criticized by local politicians. Speaking at a South Side church and surrounded by African-American mothers carrying pictures of children killed in street violence, Lee said artists hold up a mirror to society and are not afraid to tell the truth. “We have to stop the madness,” Lee said. “This is insane.” He said people who know nothing about it have been expressing opinions about the film. Lee referred to the movie’s “so-called title,” but did not say if “Chiraq” would be the title and did not take questions. “Chiraq” is street slang that compares the nation’s third largest city to the war zones of the Middle East. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, and local alderman Anthony Beale have expressed concern over the title, with Beale calling it “insulting.” Chicago recorded 407 murders in 2014, far ahead of the 328 recorded in the larger city of New York. Chicago has long fought a reputation for violence, enhanced by the mythology surrounding Prohibition-era gangster Al Capone. Many criticized Spike for negatively affecting Chicago’s tourism by releasing a film with such an intimidating title. Lee said he was not concerned about Chicago politics or tourism. “This is not about Chicago losing business,” Lee said. Referring to the grieving mothers around him, Lee said, “No one wants to be a member of this club right here.” Lee cited news reports that 14 people had been shot in the city the day before, with three killed. How do you feel about the term “Chiraq”? Is it the “reflection of society” as Spike claims, or is it a pejorative term for a city that has the blood of black people running in the streets?
