She edged out Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjostrom and Australia’s Cate Campbell . She is the second woman to win two consecutive world titles. The first woman to do so was swimmer Kornelia Ender 44 years ago. This isn’t the first time that Manuel has made history. In 2016 she became the first Black woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in swimming. Her impact goes far beyond the water. Manuel is big on philanthropy and is on a mission to diversify swimming. “The gold medal wasn’t just for me; it was for people that came before me and inspired me to stay in the sport,” she told the New York Times in an interview. “For people who believe that they can’t do it, I hope I’m an inspiration to others to get out there and try swimming. You might be pretty good at it.” Earlier this year, she visited LeBron James ’ I Promise School in Akron, Ohio to talk with students about water safety and encourage them to learn how to swim. In partnership with the Akron Area YMCA, she will provide all of the students with swimming lessons this summer. She is also spreading awareness about the high drowning rate within the Black community and is working hard to reverse the alarming trend. “The most important thing is saving lives more than winning gold medals. Representation is important,” she said . According to Because of Them We Can , Marjani and Al Harris created the only Black-owned cancer center in the country. A Philly couple made history by opening the first Black-owned cancer center in the US https://t.co/vKNgYUoEyE pic.twitter.com/kv5FpuN1kZ — Blavity News (@Blavity) July 26, 2019 For Marjani and Al , the battle against cancer hits home. Ten years ago, they had three family members who were fighting different types of the disease at the same time. While supporting their loved ones they noticed there was a lack of spaces that merged treatments with wellness and decided to open The Cancer Who Cares Center. “We noticed that there was no center where people with cancer could go to decompress, and let their emotions out, but also be treated with a sense of normalcy,” Al told the news outlet. “All of our programs are free because we want to support the person and their family without them having to worry about paying for anything.” The center has a variety of programs to provide emotional and mental care for patients, including spa days, forums and yoga classes. The couple hopes that their journey will inspire other individuals in the Black community to break barriers in whatever industry they choose to pursue. “We feel proud that we can show our children and the rest of our culture that you can always be the first at something even when you feel like you are in last place,” Al stated. There are several Black entrepreneurs who are creating spaces where people of color can receive proper care and support. Earlier this year a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility . In 2018, Dr. Tamara Moise and Wadson Fils opened the doors to Big Apple Urgent Care, Brooklyn’s first Black-owned urgent care center. Family Business: Swae Lee Apologizes To Kimora Lee Simmons For His Ex’s IG Beef With Her Daughters

Source: Lorne Thomson / Getty Kimora Lee Simmons Posts An Apology From Swae Lee Well, it’s better late than never. Swae Lee went out of his way to issu an apology to Kimora Lee Simmons following a heated back-and-forth on social media between his ex-girlfriend Marliesia Ortiz and her daughters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee Simmions. Last week, after Ming Lee posted a photo of herself and Swae on her Instagram Story, Ortiz started to attack her. Aoki came to her sister’s rescue with the quickness and immediately clapped back at Marlie, which is what set off the Instagram beef and some insane bars from Aoki. Kimora Lee Simmons posted a screenshot of a lengthy message Lee sent her apologizing for what went down between his ex and her daughters. “Hey I’m just writing to apologize if I came off the wrong way with the ex situation and having that blown out of proportion especially with your daughters getting involved,” he wrote to Kimora. The rapper also added that he treats her daughter with nothing but respect and would never intentionally do anything to make her look bad. It looks like the message worked in his favor, because Kimora Lee Simmons ended up posting the screenshot to her Instagram story and letting the world know that she accepts his apology. “What a nice young man, of course, we accept your apology and we send you love.” View this post on Instagram Oop! Serena Williams Invests In Startup Focused On Maternal Health

Follow this link:

T he Black maternal health crisis has been an ever-growing issue within our country. According to a report released by the National Partnership for Women & Families, African American women in the U.S. are more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth than women of any other race. Further research revealed that Black women are more likely to experience preventable maternal death than white women. Tennis star Serena Williams is determined to address these alarming trends. She recently invested in the maternal healthcare startup Mahmee , Black Enterprise reported. . @serenawilliams , @mcuban Invest in Black-Owned Maternal Healthcare Startup https://t.co/WQs7FUUIgc — Black Enterprise (@blackenterprise) July 17, 2019 For Williams, the matter is personal. She has been very candid about the complications she endured while giving birth to her now 1-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. She needed two surgeries after having a C-section due to a pulmonary embolism that had developed. The app—which was co-created by Melissa Hanna —connects patients with healthcare providers so that they can develop a solid prenatal and postpartum healthcare plan.  Mahmee provides expecting parents with a comprehensive dashboard that tracks the health of the mother and child. Parents can also utilize the platform for educational resources. “Mahmee is a digital maternal health care company that uses predictive analytics to provide personalized, on-demand support to new mothers and infants. Women’s healthcare, in general, is substantially under-regulated. This is across the board. Maternity is just the glaring error of it all,” Hanna told The Helm in an interview. “There is so much work that we need to do on postpartum depression and women’s mental health in general.” Williams is proud to back the growing company. “I am incredibly excited to invest and partner with Mahmee, a company that personifies my firm’s investment philosophy,” she said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “Given the bleak data surrounding maternal death and injury rates, I believe that it is absolutely critical right now to invest in solutions that help protect the lives of moms and babies. Mahmee’s data-driven approach is the right solution to one of the most significant problems in the system: that of fragmented care.” Williams has been dedicated to investing in the futures of women entrepreneurs. In March, she joined forces with Bumble to provide women with capital to start and further their business ventures. Jenelle Evans: But Like, Do I HAVE to Take Care of My Kids?

Breaking news: Jenelle Evans is not a good mom. Ha ha, just kidding — the “breaking news” part was a joke because the fact that Jenelle is a bad mom has been public knowledge for years now. It’s just … she’s so bad at it, you know? As much as she wants everyone to believe that she’s “a damn good mom,” her actions tell a very different story. Would a damn good mom give up custody of her first child before he had his first birthday? Would a damn good mom get pregnant again before she regained custody of her first child? Would a damn good mom get pregnant again  after that, then marry a man that’s been accused several times of abusing one of her kids while the other kid directly told her he didn’t want her to marry him? Look, we could sit here all day and ask questions like that, but it would get too sad and you might get too depressed to get to the main point of this story. The main point, obviously, being the latest example of how Jenelle really is just the worst. So, OK, we all remember how David killed Jenelle’s dog and CPS removed Kaiser, Ensley, and Maryssa from their home, right? Of course we do — it’s kind of hard to forget such a horrifying story. That happened in May, they were in court several times in June, and then at the beginning of this month, a judge ordered that all the kids be returned to The Land . The family has only been back together for a few weeks, and already Jenelle is showing her true colors. Her true, gross colors. On Twitter and Facebook, she asked the following question: “When are kids too old for birthday parties? Serious question. I want to know what everyone thinks.” Now, that might just be something she was curious about and wanted to discuss. But Jace turns 10 next Friday, and Maryssa turns 12 a couple of days after that. So everyone knows what she’s really asking — and the answers showed that. “I think you’re a terrible mom that doesn’t want to throw parties for anyone but Ensley,” one person commented. Another said “I can’t imagine that any parent would allow their child to attend a party hosted by junkes, dog killers and child abusers.” As one follower pointed out, “Shouldn’t you throw a party so you can put the pics on IG and keep up the facade of being a parent? But then someone asked “Is this your way of saying Maryssa won’t get a party this year?”, and it feels like that’s really the issue here. Jenelle’s mother, Barbara, has full custody of Jace, and she always throws him a party. He might have another celebration at Jenelle’s house, but his big party has always been with Barbara. Unfortunately, David does have custody of Maryssa, and what’s especially unfortunate is that during the court proceedings, we learned that he and Jenelle don’t even really want custody . Remember the report about how they decided that they were only fighting for Ensley and Kaiser, that Maryssa could stay with her grandmother? They reached that decision after Maryssa allegedly refused to speak to David during one of their supervised visits — something that was said to have infuriated him. The girl also testified in court, telling everyone what truly goes on in the Eason home. What she said was never made public, but we did hear that what she had to say wasn’t very positive. View Slideshow: Jenelle Evans & David Eason: Under Attack by Conspiracy Theorists! Fake Dog-Slaying Texts, Accounts Exposed!! [EXCLUSIVE] Then the justice system failed, and now Maryssa has to live with those people again — and apparently one of her punishments is that she doesn’t get a birthday party. But sure, Jenelle, tell us more about what a damn good mom you are.
