White CEO Says He Hires Mostly Black Women Because They’re “Less Selfish.” Is This A Good Thing?

Read this article:

There’s a haunting quote from Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing that’s stuck with me since I read the book a couple of years ago. It shared the experience of Esi, a young Ghanaian woman, unknowingly being sold into America’s race-based, life-long, unimaginably cruel system of slavery. “They took them out into the light. The scent of ocean water hit her nose. The taste of salt clung to her throat. The soldiers marched them down to an open door that led to sand and water, and they all began to walk out onto it. Before Esi left, the one called Governor looked at her and smiled. It was a kind smile, pitying, but true. But for the rest of her life Esi would see a smile on a white face and remember the one the soldier gave her before taking her to his quarters, how white men smiling just meant more evil was coming with the next wave.” It speaks to the righteous and rightful distrust we have of White people and White men in particular. Their track record hasn’t been great. And throughout the course of our history on this land and around the world, even well-intentioned actions from White folk have ultimately resulted in unspeakable pain and heartache for Black women. For that reason, the conscious among us approach the actions of White people with some level of caution. I was reminded of this phenomena when my friend sent me a post that’s currently being circulated around social media. She didn’t provide any of her own commentary initially, she just asked me, “What do you think about this?” View this post on Instagram Black Women really be out here saving the world # A post shared by millennialmarried (@millennialmarried) on Sep 9, 2019 at 8:09am PDT   I could see why she had an issue with this man’s explanation. Here we are centuries after slavery and White men are still using the labor of Black women to their benefit. He described Black women as being “less selfish” and “having his best interest” at heart. And then there’s the pain evoked by “y’all raised us even when we refused to let you read.” Damn. This White man didn’t tell any lies. But his truths are still hurtful. Perhaps he perceives Black women as being less selfish because historically we’ve had to take care of White masters, White children, Black men and Black children at the expense of ourselves. Instead of continuing to perpetuate that cycle, as a real ally or advocate for these women he should be looking for ways that these women can invest in themselves. The same can be said for them having his best interest at heart. At the expense of what? To their personal lives have to suffer so his business can grow? Since he understands the role Black women played during slavery, does he also understand that the we were conditioned to put the needs of White men, financial, emotional and sexual, ahead of our own for survival and not through our own free will? Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). For as much as this White man seems to understand the dynamics of slavery, he doesn’t seem to be doing enough to change them. And this is the reason why I told my friend I didn’t have a problem with this idea. While I wouldn’t argue that it’s progressive in any way, I think that this White man is doing what White men in this country and every other capitalist in this country has done for centuries, making money. I say this all the time and I continue to repeat it mostly because so many of life’s occurrences remind us of the fact that while legalized slavery has ended, we’ve taken the model into our businesses. Think about, in most businesses, the CEO or the person at the top does the least work but makes the most money. This person may have very little knowledge or ability to run the day-to-day operations of the business; yet they make decisions that directly impact the lives of their workers. And as the White man suggested employees, while offered very little or nothing at all in terms of equity, are expected to be invested in the business’ success while they are expendable. People have literally died overworking themselves for companies that will replace them within a week of their funeral—if not before. So while the White man’s sentiments aren’t progressive or kind-hearted, his business is no different than the companies many of us work for. And as we fight for representation and employment in various industries, I can’t help but believe that this White man is doing this. In the short term, these Black women are employed and hopefully being appropriately compensated. I pray that the work environment is fair and that they’re able to take the skills they’ve learned and developed there to companies, perhaps in the future, that have work models that are more favorable than what we have today. SMH: Jack In The Box Drive-Thru Employee Fired For Mocking Deaf Woman & Refusing To Serve Her

Link:

A deaf woman in California was both mocked and refused service by an employee at Jack in the Box  after she passed the speaker at the drive-thru and went directly to the service window to place her order. ReVae Arnaud-Jensen explained why she was unable to use the drive-thru’s speaker and then attempted to give her order to the employee directly on August 31 – which is when she was berated by the worker. Her son, Malachi Jensen, eventually started to film the interaction. He told NBC News that he began to record because the interaction is a “common problem” faced by deaf people. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). The video was shared by Arnaud-Jensen on her Facebook page and shows her attempting to explain to the Jack in the Box worker that she is deaf. She can be heard saying, “I can’t hear” and “you’re discriminating.” In response, the worker said, “I don’t care. … Go. Go. Go. Go.” At one point, the employee told the customer to “shut up.” At the end of the video, Arnaud-Jensen tried to simply place her order again. The Jack in the Box employee then seemingly mocks her sign language, laughs, and shuts the drive-thru window in her face. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! Email Submit Malachi says he and his mother sat outside the restaurant for two hours until they were finally given their order. “It was my first time seeing an employee acting like that, and honestly I was very shocked. I felt pretty mad too because deaf people very often get treated differently,” he told NBC News. Jack in the Box ended up issuing a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle on the incident, saying the following:  “We do not tolerate the mistreatment of any customers and expect employees to follow all training procedures, be respectful, courteous and accommodating to all guests,” the company said. “After a thorough investigation of the incident and direct contact with the local franchise owner, we understand the employee in the video has been terminated.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://rickeysmileymorningshow.com” id=”1886500″ overlay=”true”] ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : 74-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth To Twins Nah! Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Family Has No Intentions of Attending His Snitching Performance in Court

Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital It seems like just yesterday Tekashi 6ix9ine ‘s Trey Nine Gangsta Bloods crew was out in the streets of New York allegedly putting hands on rappers who dared talked sideways about the “Gummo” rapper. Now only a year and change after claiming to be the “King of New York,” the rainbow haired rapper who once bragged about how thorough his team is preparing to drop more dimes than a Kevin Love and Dame D.O.L.L.A commercial against the same people who once held him down in the streets…and eventually kidnapped and robbed him as well. Unfortunately for the rapper also  Danny Hernandez , he will have to take the stand without any moral support from his immediate family as they fear retribution from the men Hernandez once ran with. According to TMZ , Tekashi 6ix9ine’s family has decided not to be in the crowd once Tekashi goes all “Henry Hill” on his former mob associates and sings some jail house rock notes that will help put his former homies turned captors behind bars . Knowing that members of the Trey Nine Gangsta Bloods would be in attendance, his family members fear that they might and try to make an example of them to send Tekashi and other would-be snitches a message. We’re told his family thinks, at the very least, they’d be harassed, but more likely followed back to their home … or even outright attacked by Nine Trey members. Remember, Tekashi was already scared for his family’s lives — despite hiring extra security to guard them — and it looks like he’s following through on that concern now that the day is right around the corner. As we reported … prosecutors laid out what Tekashi’s going to say on the stand next week, when he’ll supposedly name names, connect people to certain incriminating messages … and implicate himself and other Nine Trey Bloods to a plot on hurting rival rapper Casanova . Presumably, he’ll also get into detail about how he was bankrolling his fellow gang members — something prosecutors revealed in court docs . Yup, this kid is giving up the farm in order to get back his freedom. Whether or not rap is still an option in his post-snitching life remains to be seen but 50 Cent seems to believe there’s a chance for his rap career yet. Just don’t expect 50 to answer any phone calls from 6ix9ine from here on out. Them the breaks.

Rejected!: Lebron James Attempt To Trademark “Taco Tuesday” Denied

Source: Icon Sportswire / Getty Well, at least he tried. LeBron James attempt at trademarking his new favorite phrase “Taco Tuesday” was rejected on Wednesday (September 11) by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Unless you been under a rock for the past few months, Bron takes to Instagram to remind us on Tuesday’s that the James Gang enjoys tacos on that particular day of the week. LBJ’s use of “Taco Tuesday” became quite popular among his fans, James definitely noticed hence why he even attempted to trademark it. Unfortunately, his attempt was rejected like one of his chase-down blocks he is famous for on the court. View this post on Instagram #LeBronJames was planning on trademarking the term #TacoTuesday. His application has been denied. The refusal, issued at 6:26 PM today, finds that TACO TUESDAY is a “commonplace message” and therefore fails to function as a trademark. #TacoTuesday A post shared by PMW HIP-HOP OFFICIAL (@pmwhiphop_) on Sep 11, 2019 at 10:27pm PDT According to the patent office, the phrase is “a commonplace term, message or expression widely used by a variety of sources that merely conveys an ordinary, familiar, well-recognized concept or sentiment.” .The patent office cited multiple news articles pointing out how widely used the term is “to express enthusiasm for tacos by promoting and celebrating them on a dedicated weekday.” The patent office also pointed out how similar the phrase is to “Techno Taco Tuesday” that is already trademarked by a company in Las Vegas . They stated, “merely omitting some of the wording from a registered mark may not overcome a likelihood of confusion.” Despite taking an L, James team is looking at the decision in a positive light, basically saying the office gave Bron what he wanted all along. A spokesperson claimed that with the patent office refusing to trademark the phrase, it offered LBJ protection from liability if he used “Taco Tuesday” in other mediums. “If this opens the door for ‘Taco Tuesday’ to be open to everybody, all the better. That would be a great outcome of this. The entire purpose of this is to protect Lebron and subsequently everybody else.” Bron and his team have six months to challenge the patent office’s decision. But, according to Josh Gerben, a lawyer who specializes in trademarks it’s unlikely he will. — Photo: Icon Sportswire / Getty

Say What? Black Woman Denied Pedicure For Being ‘Too Big’ For Seat

Source: Trinette Reed / Getty When Tina Lewis went to Rose Nails Salon in Houston all she wanted was to be pampered with a much-needed pedicure. Instead, she claims she was met with fatphobia and denied services because of her weight. According to KTRK , Lewis accused the salon of telling her they couldn’t help her because she was “too big” to fit in their pedicure chairs. Lewis was shocked. “She was like, ‘What did she just say?’…I said, ‘Yes, mama, she just said that to me,’” she told the KTRK. “I was like, ‘Can I get a pedicure? And what chair do I sit in?’ And (the employee) was like, the chairs were not big enough for me to sit in. And I was like, ‘Are you serious?’” Marie Bui , an employee of the salon, told the news station that it was not her intention to hurt or offend Lewis. “I said, ‘I’m sorry I cannot serve you because my spa chair is very small,’” she said, adding that a prior customer had damaged a chair because of her weight. Apparently, the salon alleges that they cannot afford to replace these chairs if they continue to get broken. Meanwhile, Lewis ain’t trying to hear that noise. “It was, like, very disrespectful. To me, I felt like it was discrimination.” Lews is also clear: She won’t be going back there again…and honestly, we don’t blame her. This isn’t the first time a woman has spoken out about this type of treatment at a nail salon. Last September, a South Carolina woman claimed that she was turned away from getting her nails done because she weighed 250 pounds, PEOPLE reported . Listen, it’s 2019 and the majority of folks are not a size 6. A recent study found that the average size of women in America is between 16-18. So it’s time for the beauty industry to get with the picture and adapt to reality. Ben Carson Magically Cleared Of Wrongdoing In Buying $31,000 Dining Room Set

Original post:

S ecretary of HUD Ben Carson has been cleared of any misconduct in the $31,000 dining room set. Guess who cleared him? A HUD Inspector General, which is quite convenient. See Also: Michael Moore Begs Michelle Obama To Run For President: ‘She’s The One Person Who Could Crush Trump’ Carson was accused of violating federal appropriations law by ordering furniture worth more than $5,000 and notifying congressional appropriators. The Washington Post reports, a 14-page report read, “We found no evidence indicating that either Secretary or Mrs. Carson exerted improper influence on any departmental employee in connection with the procurement.” The report blames the purchase on HUD staff and that Carson thought “the dollar limit applied only to his personal office — not to his entire suit.” The report also stated, “We believe that department officials involved in this process should have been aware that notification to Congress was required here. The fact that evidently no one involved in this procurement had such awareness indicates a systemic failure.” The agency has reportedly reviewed the process, , In March of 2018, Carson told the House Appropriations Committee that it was Candy Carson who purchased the $31,000 dining set for his office on the taxpayers’ dime. He said, “When I assumed the position I was told that traditionally secretaries redecorate their offices. You know, I’m not really big into decorating. If it were up to me, my office would probably look like a hospital waiting room. At any rate, I invited my wife in to come help me.” He continued, “I asked my wife also to help me with that. They showed us some catalogs. The prices were beyond what I wanted to pay and I made it clear that just didn’t seem right to me. I left it with my wife, I said ‘help choose something.’” He threw her under the bus by saying, “I wasn’t that concerned about furniture. The next thing that I quite frankly heard about it was this $31,000 table had been bought. I said ‘What the heck is this all about?’ I investigated and I immediately had it canceled.” Just like everyone in the Trump administration, Carson walks away unscathed. Lenny S Says Jay-Z Was Good With Losing Rap Battle To Nas in ’02

Source: Annie Chen / A. Chen It’s been more than a decade and chance since Jay-Z and Nas battled for rap supremacy when they dropped some scathing diss tracks in “The Takeover” and “Ether,” and though they’ve since squashed the drama and moved on with their lives, OG rap aficionados still argue on who had the better record. Jay-Z for his part has no problem with fans concluding that Nas got the best of him when he called him a “tae-bo h*e” amongst other things on the rap battle classic “Ether.” Def Jam published an oral history about the making of the classic Jay-Z album, The Blueprint , and in it former Roc-A-Fella A&R Lenny “Lenny S” Santiago explained his frustration over how Hip-Hoppers were declaring Nas’ “Ether” the victor over Jay’s “Takeover.” From venting to Roc-A-Fella co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke to cursing out New York’s Hot 97 radio station, Lenny S had a hard time with fans leaning more towards the Queensbridge King than Hova the Gawd. It wasn’t until he got on the phone with Jay that Lenny S was able to see the bigger picture behind what had happened and accepted the end results. “So I literally call him from a pay phone. And here we are, Jay’s on the phone with me, convincing me that this has to happen in life. We have to go through ups and downs. We have take losses in order to get greater wins. We have to fall in order to get up. He just spent 15 minutes convincing me why this was necessary and that it’s alright. This man just took a loss. A public loss to a rival rapper. And he’s convincing me, a young A&R, and obviously his friend and his brother, of like why I need to be okay with this and let it go and not take it to heart. It just taught me as a man how to be a more mature adult. And to look at the glass as half full instead of half empty. Jay took the time when he could have been selfish, or pissed off, and took the time to school me. And that’s from The Blueprint.” To be fair, at the time Hot 97 held a contest for listeners to decide who had the better diss track between Nas’ “Ether” and Jay-Z’s “Super Ugly” in which Jay spit over Nas’ “Got Urself” instrumental and then revealed his relationship with Nas’ babymother over Dr. Dre ‘s “Bad Intentions” track. Apparently Jay didn’t go hard enough over Nas’ beat but went over the line on Dr. Dre’s joint. If we remember correctly, even Jay-Z’s family told him he didn’t have to bring Nas’ baby’s mother into the drama on the diss track. Either way New York listeners decided “Ether” was a better song than “Super Ugly.” It was. Had they actually pitted “Ether” against the original Nas diss cut “Takeover” then the results might’ve been different. Luckily both men were able to hash out their differences and are now continuing to cash in on life outside of rap. Gotta love Hip-Hop, b.

NoJulz: Big Boi Casually Brushes Off YesJulz Outkast Slander [Video]

Excerpt from:

Source: Marcus Ingram / Getty YesJulz invited an avalanche of slander after bigging up EarthGang , and rightfully so, but throwing Big Bo i under the bus in the process. After getting corrected by the Internet for saying the Dreamville crew is like Outkast “with two Andres,” the more active half of the famed Atlanta duo brushed off the slander as cool as one can imagine. In an interview alongside vocalist and longtime compatriot Sleepy Brown, Big Boi hit the Power 105.1 studios to sit down with The Breakfast Club and addressed the chatter regarding his crew and YesJulz leaping out the gate loud and wrong. Big Boi was alerted to all the news by his son, who is now in college in New York, who initially thought something happened to his dad as he was trending on Twitter. However, Bamboo let his father known that Twitter ferociously cooked YesJulz but his final statement on the matter was all that was needed to be said. “When you reach God MC status, it’s hard for people to see you up here in these clouds,” Big Boi shared. “You just gotta pull the tape, man. Twenty-five years, when I won everything and done everything in music, and personally. I’m so proud now that I was able to maintain my family, my wife. I got three kids in college, I’m an empty-nester, I’m back slingin’ raw d*ck and Netflix, I just ain’t trying to reset the Playstation, so life is lovely, man.” That settles it. — Photo: Getty
