Ethan Westbrooks Reveals Face Tattoo Was Decision To Drive Him To NFL One rookie Rams footballer was so fed up with his minimum wage job, that he ran and got a face tattoo to make sure he’d never be “stuck” earning a check “the normal way” again. So…was simply aiming to be an excellent ball player and solidifying his spot just not an option? Via BusinessInsider : St. Louis Rams rookie defense lineman Ethan Westbrooks made the final 53-man roster on Saturday, beating out Michael Sam for one of the team’s final spots. Westbrooks has a remarkable story of his own. In 2011 he was working at a Toys “R” Us and playing for Sacramento City College. Three years later, he’s in the NFL. According to Westbrooks, an unlikely motivational tool — a face tattoo — is part of the reason for his success. Westbrooks told ESPN’s Nick Wagoner that he got a tattoo below his eye in 2011 because he never wanted to get a normal job again. Making it in the NFL would be the only way to prevent him from becoming “a guy that has a tattoo on his face looking for another job.” From ESPN: The story goes that Westbrooks was working at a Toys ‘R’ Us in Sacramento while playing football and going to school at Sacramento City Junior College. He didn’t like the job and decided when he quit that he had no intention of working a normal job again. So he went searching for a way to push himself to attain that goal. Somehow, he decided there was no better way to do that than to have a reminder staring him in the face every time he looked in the mirror. ‘I was just like I might as well go ahead and get it on the face because if nothing else, it will help motivate me to either be a guy that has a tattoo on his face looking for another job or hopefully I make it in the NFL and don’t have to work too hard to do something (else),’ Westbrooks said. ‘I don’t feel it’s a bad thing now. I don’t regret it. It speaks for itself.’ It worked. Westbrooks’ incredible performance in training camp and the preseason is widely regarded as the reason Sam was cut. The Rams had a crowded group of players along the defensive line to begin with, and Westbrooks’ emergence pushed out Sam. The tattoo reads, “Laugh now, cry later:” Oh…and such an original tattoo choice at that. SMH. Well whatever works for him. We certainly wish him much luck (and FAR better decision-making skills) in the league!

First Black Referee To Work Superbowl Reveals He Asked Not To Work Redskins Games Mike Carey took a stand against racism in the NFL by silently protesting for years in his refusal to work for an organization he felt was being hateful with their stubborn resolve to keep a Native American slur as their team name. According to Washington Post reports via NY Daily News: Mike Carey, who officiated games for 24 years before retiring in 2013, told the Washington Post that he told the NFL he didn’t want to work the Redskins’ home or away games because of their disrespectful nickname. “Human beings take social stances,” Carey, the first African-American referee to work a Super Bowl, told the Post. “And if you’re respectful of all human beings, you have to decide what you’re going to do and why you’re going to do it. “In America we’ve learned that respect is the most important thing that you have. I learned it from my parents, my schools, from my faith. And when you learn there’s something that might not be as respectful as you like, when you come to terms with it, you have to do something about it.” “I know that if a team had a derogatory name for African-Americans, I would help those who helped extinguish that name. I have quite a few friends who are Native Americans. And even if I didn’t have Native American friends, the name of the team is disrespectful.” The NFL apparently had no problem with his request, as the Washington Post research showed that Carey didn’t work a Redskins game after Week 1 of the 2006 season. “The league respectfully honored my request not to officiate Washington,” he said. “When they were making assignments, I said I’d like to be excluded from those assignments.” Carey added he never talked to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the matter, instead going through the league office. Seriously we all can learn something from this example. All these people who compromise their values on the daily because it’s “part of the job” need to know it’s entirely possible to stand up for your beliefs and still be an exemplary employee. APImages

Kourtney Kardashian Thinks Ex NFL Star Keyshawn Johnson Sold Her Moldy House On Purpose Via PageSix : Kourtney Kardashian thinks former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson pulled a fast one on her. The reality star, 35, believes that the Los Angeles-area home she bought from the former football player, 42, is mold-infested, reports TMZ. According to the website, the mold, which was covered by a coat of paint, was discovered by the eldest Kardashian sister’s decorator while installing fixtures around the house. Kardashian, who is expecting her third child, feels that it’s too dangerous for her young family to stay in the house and has checked everyone into the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills. She’s also said to be considering legal action. But Johnson is said to be furious at the allegations coming from the Kardashian camp, according to a source close to the ESPN commentator. Johnson claims to have never painted a wall in the house during the two-and-a-half years he lived there. That same source said that Johnson believes that the mold developed after the sale of the house when a bathroom pipe sprung a leak, and that he would never have knowingly exposed his own children, who were living in the house, to mold. A Kardashian family representative did not return a request for comment. We can understand why she’s upset…but Keyshawn’s story makes a lot of sense. Who do you think is right?
