New York Senator Malcom Smith isn’t too cool with Lil Wayne right now. He’s called Weezy out and is asking fellow New Yorker Nicki Minaj to step in and encourage Wayne to apologize. The offending comment, via MTV, was brief: “Flat out: I don’t like New York,” Wayne said Monday when he was asked how performing with Minaj in the city went last week. Smith responded swiftly, issuing a statement slamming Wayne and praising New York as “the birthplace of the Hip Hop music movement.” Smith, who recently helped promote an anti-gun initiative in the city, also slammed Wayne’s 2007 gun possession arrest, which resulted in the rapper serving eight months on Rikers Island. At a Times Square press conference Wednesday, Smith’s crusade continued. He railed against Wayne for making money in New York while bashing it and alleged the rapper’s comments had also insulted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Jay-Z, because both men had “made endearing” songs about the city. Charles Fisher of the Hip Hop Summit Youth Council also expressed concern that Wayne’s comments could spark a rap war, Politicker reported. “Sixteen years ago, Tupac Shakur was murdered, and Biggie Smalls came right after that….We can’t afford to have a war between New York and the South. Lil Wayne is out of Atlanta, grew up in New Orleans,” Fisher said. “It is my hope and I believe and I want to believe that he had a lapse in mental judgement for some strange reason and I hope that he will think about it,” Smith said. “New Yorkers are forgiving people. Britney Spears is NOT experiencing cold feet and is still very much planning to wed Jason Trawick, despite a tabloid report to the contrary, sources say. The Britney rumor was published by Us Weekly , which also proclaims Bachelorette Emily Maynard was caught cheating on Jef Holm in this week’s issue. We’re finding it hard to believe either story even a little bit, at least as it stands now. Says a source close to the singer/soon-to-be X Factor judge: “There’s no truth to any second thoughts about their wedding. They’re fine and both look forward to working again when The X Factor gets started.” “They’ve had a great summer.” Speculation about trouble between Spears and Jason Trawick swirled recently when she was photographed outside court without her engagement ring. But, according to the source, “she was not wearing her ring because she took it off during an Elizabeth Arden [photo] shoot and Jason was holding it.” “He simply forgot to give it back until later that day.” Perfectly logical. As far as walking down the aisle goes, the insider says, the two aren’t in a huge rush, and she’s beyond thrilled for when they do. “Even though Britney has been married before, she looks at her wedding to Jason as her real wedding and is so, so excited,” the source says. With names of potential American Idol judges flying around faster than Kim Kardashian’s clothes at a 2001 swingers party , Mariah Carey has decided to make her voice known. The one person who we know we’ll see on the panel in January Tweeted a photo of herself and Lenny Kravitz this week along with the caption: “@AmericanIdol What’s going on? need the info!! What about this combo? : ) if we could ever get him to do it!” According to reports, Carey is peeved over the likely inclusion of Nicki Minaj as a Season 12 judge, having been allegedly told no other females would be hired for the position. The latest rumor, meanwhile, actually places Kanye West alongside the legendary pop singer. It’s a pretty big mess, but it’s also keeping American Idol in the news. Kanye West In Talks to Sign On As An American Idol Judge Another day, another person up for AI judges hotseat …although this choice would certainly trump them all… via TMZ Kanye West is negotiating with producers to become an “American Idol” judge … TMZ has learned. Sources close to the production tell TMZ, “Idol” honchos reached out to Kanye recently about filling one of the open judging spots … and Kanye expressed interest. But that doesn’t mean he’s on board — we’re told Yeezy is still unsure about accepting the gig. The way it was put to us … “He’s on the fence,” because he’s not sure if “A.I.” is in his wheelhouse. And there’s another big hang up — cash. Informed sources tell TMZ … “Idol” would “at least match Mariah’s salary” — a cool $18 mil a year. It looks like Nicki Minaj is either close to signing a deal or has signed one to become a judge, but we’re told producers may well add a 4th judge. As we reported, the frontrunners are Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Enrique Iglesias, but Kanye would clearly trump them all. Calls to Kanye’s camp were not returned. Yeezy, Nicki AND Mariah all on one stage together on a weekly basis?!? Get your popcorn ready Bossipers….
