David Guetta and Nicki Minaj’s “Turn Me On” video won’t arrive until January 31 (unless, of course, it leaks before that), but the two teases of the clip unveiled today indicate that, despite the song’s title, it’s going to be less of a sexy affair, and more of a thriller! A month ago Nicki Minaj hopped on Twitter to gush about locking lips with the most successful women in the history of music: Madonna. It happened on the set of Madonna’s upcoming video for “Give Me All Your Love,” the first single off her forthcoming album M.D.N.A . It features M.I.A. and Minaj, who was celebrating her birthday. Madonna kiss was apparently a wonderful gift. “OH MY f’ingggg Gahhhh!!!!! MADONNA jus kissed me!!!!!,” Nicki tweeted. “On the lips!!!!!!! It felt sooooo good. Soooo soft!!!! *passes out* aaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!” Last night during a Nightline interview on ABC Madonna briefly spoke about the love she gave Minaj. “I did [kiss Nicki],” she confirmed. “But it was her birthday. I just gave her a birthday kiss. No tongue. She has lovely lips. We sang happy birthday to her and then I gave her a kiss on the mouth.” RELATED POSTS: Nicki Minaj To Perform At The Grammys Nicki Minaj Song Becomes A Christian Anthem [VIDEO] Nicki Minaj Gets Gift From Birdman: “This Is Too Rich For Me” [VIDEO]
Just when you thought the trend of members of a rapper’s entourage making their own music was over, Scaff Breezy throws his bars into the ring. Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend hype man raps about his stacking paper and not graduating on “Count It Up.” The beat sounds like something Nicki Minaj would practice on. Scaff Breezy’s verses don’t do much for it either, but he does issue a disclaimer after he spits. Breezy states, “I am not a rapper!” I’m glad he realizes what we already knew. Can Scaff Breezy make it as a rapper? Weigh in below. Source RELATED POSTS: SB Denies Punching Nicki Minaj In The Face Is Nicki Minaj Engaged?! [PHOTOS]
Once again it’s on… Nicki Minaj may have taken the mixtape fiends’ criticisms of her poppy debut album a little too personally. The first two tracks the now-actual Harajuku Barbie has shared from her upcoming follow-up, Valentine’s Day release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, have “Old Nicki” written all over them. That means maniacal, cartoonish rapping, with enough technical virtuosity to break through the macho defenses of old-fashioned hip-hop heads. What it doesn’t mean, unfortunately, is more lighter-than-bubblegum pop brilliance of the kind that catapulted bonus track turned mega-hit “Super Bass” onto so many best song lists. But even with the likes of young New York rapper Azealia Banks nipping at her (sky-high) heels, Nicki displays a degree of insanity that’s difficult to match on new cut “Stupid Hoe,” which follows no-hooks, no-bridge, no-third-verse “Roman in Moscow” as the latest batshit Roman Reloaded rhyme spree. We’re burying the lede a little, in journalism parlance, but so does Nicki: Yes, “Stupid Hoe” confirms speculation the rapper will be performing alongside Madonna at the Super Bowl in February. But that braggadocious scoop — “2012, I’m at the Super Bowl!” — comes only after roughly two-and-a-half minutes of ear-piercing whistles, frenetic hand claps, and Minaj stretching out words like so much Silly Putty. And it’s before she starts singing in a Caribbean cadence, or spitting the phrase “f*** a stupid hoe” like she’s a rabid dog. All in all, “Stupid Hoe” is another masterfully kooky display of Minaj’s MC skills but there’s a slightly disappointing “been there, done that” quality to this Nicki party. Even some of the choicest lines — “These bitches are my sons, and I don’t want custody,” repeated twice in Lil Wayne-weird goblin flow — hark back to her previous zingers. Plus, we really hope “Stupid Hoe” isn’t Minaj’s umpteenth Lil Kim diss, because that beef has been on the table too long. Wow!! Nicki and Madonna at the Superbowl??? That’s gonna make the Queen Bee sick, eghck… Source Flip the page to listen to ridiculously hilarious new diss track
We attempt to explain the madness behind MTV brain trust’s methods. By James Montgomery Britney Spears Photo: C. Flanigan/ WireImage On Thursday, MTV unveiled our picks for the Best Artists of 2011 … a list fittingly topped by none other than Katy Perry, who bested big-name stars like Nicki Minaj, Adele, the Throne and Lil Wayne to take home the honor. It wasn’t an easy choice, but we’d like to think we got it right. After all, Katy had three #1 singles — with a possible fourth looming on the horizon — this year, took her massive California Dreams Tour to arenas around the world, won Video of the Year at the 2011 VMAs and frequently posed for photo-ops like this . It was a pretty impressive 12 months, to say the very least. Still, it took a whole lot of back-and-forth from our panel of experts — a brain trust made up of folks from MTV News, MTV Music and Talent and MTV.com — before we could declare Katy our #1 choice … and needless to say, as we’ve been unveiling our picks, not all of you agree with our decision. But it seems that most fans don’t have a problem with who made our list … they’re taking issue with who didn’t. And for all of the names bandied about by MTV.com readers, it seems that three keep coming up time and time again: Britney Spears, Bruno Mars and Pitbull, artists who each have a legitimate claim at being included in the conversation, if not placing in the top 10. So why didn’t they? Let’s try to explain. Before our brain trust met, each department gathered and created a list of their top 12 picks for Best Artist of 2011. Those lists were then compiled, and we used some good old-fashioned arithmetic to determine an overall top 12 (everyone’s #1 pick was awarded 12 points, each #12 pick got 1). From there, we debated, eventually settling on the top 10. And here’s where the snubs begin: It seems that, while Brit, Bruno and Pit made everyone ‘s top 12, none of them placed high enough to accumulate enough points … though all three were in the discussion, they each finished toward the bottom of the overall top 12 and, really, we couldn’t move them up far enough to make the final 10. And, more specifically, we couldn’t find anyone in the top 10 we felt could be taken out. Why? OK, let’s break it down. Though Britney had a big year, our brain trust couldn’t get past the fact that the story of her year hadn’t changed all that much from previous years. She seemed to still be the princess of pop at the peak of her career, but she didn’t necessarily gain any new ground this year. And though her chart-topping “Hold It Against Me” made tons of noise, Adele, Katy and Rihanna had lengthy Billboard reigns that were too difficult to overlook. Still Britney didn’t finish entirely empty-handed. Her (really excellent) “Till the World Ends” placed at #10 on Bigger Than the Sound ‘s 25 Best Songs of 2011 list. As far as Bruno is concerned, he came quite close to cracking the top 10, but the brain trust took issue with the fact that his Doo-Wops & Hooligans album came out last year, not to mention that, outside the success of “Grenade” in early 2011, his subsequent singles didn’t reach #1 (though “The Lazy Song” did make it to #4). And if all of that seems like nit-picking, well, some of us on the brain trust would agree with you, but sadly we were out-voted. And when it came to Pitbull, let’s just say that while he had a monster hit with “Give Me Everything” (which came in at #6 on the brain trust’s Best Songs list), most of the panelists couldn’t get past the fact that he never quite got around to matching that song’s success … ubiquitous Dr. Pepper ad campaign aside. So, there you go. Like we said, putting together a top 10 wasn’t easy, and fans of Britney, Bruno and Pitbull probably have some legitimate gripes. Hopefully, explaining the madness behind our methods will help assuage some of their anger. Then again, probably not. Katy Perry fans celebrate Artist of the Year win, while Nicki Minaj fans think she should have come out on top. By Kara Klenk Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images For MTV’s Best of 2011 , our panel of experts counted down the Artists of the Year — the people they felt really owned the past 12 months. Fans certainly had a lot to say about the list, commenting on everything from the order to the artists who didn’t make the top 10. There were a lot of comments that Adele or Gaga should have been in the top two instead of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj , while some fans were angry that Bruno Mars and Chris Brown didn’t make the cut. (One fan even said Internet sensation Rebecca Black should have made the list.) While every fan wanted their favorite artist to be #1, it came down to Perry and Minaj vying for the top spot, and their fans loudly voiced their respective support of the pop star and rapper. A few were even torn over the decision! Katy Cats got their claws out to support Katy Perry, like Facebook user Sophia Santi who cheered, “She is the best she deserves that prize and has accomplished many [records] in music’s history!!! She has to win!!! Go katy go katy!!!” The Barbz and Kenz also made their voices heard in support of Nicki Minaj. Manale Dkd Makuse hit Facebook to say, “Lie to yourselves all you want, as usual Nicki is taking it home. Love katy but she’s so last year. Nicki is a queen this is her era get used to it.” Katy was announced as the Artist of the Year, with Nicki taking the #2 spot. Katy’s fans rejoiced. @Rockprincess91 tweeted, ” @katyperry werked so hard! She totes deserves it! She’s a legend! She’s life! ProudofKatyPerry
A shooting at Virginia Tech University has left two people dead, including a police officer, and prompted the entire school to be placed on lockdown today. A Virginia Tech police officer was fatally shot on the campus by an as-yet-unidentified gunman, for whom a sweeping search was conducted for four hours. Here’s the local press conference detailing the events of this afternoon: Virginia Tech Shooting Press Conference Around 4:30 p.m. EST, the Blacksburg, Va., school announced on its Twitter feed that “law enforcement agencies have determined there is no longer an active threat or a need to secure in place. Resume normal activities.” Police said that the shooting occurred shortly after noon, after the police officer made a routine traffic stop in the Coliseum parking lot near McComas Hall. During that stop, a person who wasn’t involved in the traffic stop approached and shot the officer, then fled toward a nearby parking lot, officials said. When another investigating officer circled back to approach the person – described as a white male – that person was dead of a gunshot wound. A Virginia state police spokesman said that police didn’t shoot the second person, and he wouldn’t say whether the person was the suspect. It’s unclear if the search is ongoing, but he said investigators feel “confident we located the person,” and “you can kind of read between the lines.” The incident comes after a shooting spree in which a Virginia Tech student, Cho Seung-Hui, shot dead 32 people before killing himself in April 2007. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced some sad news today. A month after they announced her pregnancy with their 20th child , their doctor was unable to find a heartbeat and told her she suffered a miscarriage. “After the appointment, we came back home and told the children,” says Michelle , 45. “We had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment.” She says the family will select a name after they know if the baby, miscarried in the second trimester, was a boy or girl, and then plan to have a funeral. “I feel like my heart broke telling my children,” says Michelle. “They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult.” Still, she adds that the family’s faith perseveres: “The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him.” The stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting weathered myriad medical ordeal with their youngest daughter, Josie-Brookyln, born in December 2009. This is actually her second miscarriage. Michelle lost a baby during her second pregnancy. She was taking oral birth control then, citing that as a big reason the pair decided they’d leave the number of children they have “up to God.” In light of these events, should the Duggars still try for a 20th?
