Lil Wayne Kicks Off I Am Music II Tour In Rhode Island

The New England crowd cheered Weezy’s every move, from his otherworldly rhyming to the array of guests he invited onstage, including Young Money members Shanell, Jae Millz, Mack Maine and Lil Twist. Sporting a white V-neck tee, jeans, bright Vans and a fitted cap and shades, Wayne looked trimmer than he did upon his release from prison in November. His dreadlocks appeared longer, and the rapper was lucid. As a result of an Arizona case, Wayne is forbidden from drinking alcohol or partaking in any activities involving drugs. The added clarity served him well. He was agile throughout his verses on “A Milli.” “He’s a beast, he’s a dog, he’s a motherf—ing problem,” he rapped. “OK, you’re a goon, but what’s a goon to a goblin?/ Nothing, nothing, you ain’t scaring nothing/ On some f—ing bullshit, call him Dennis Rodman.” After running through “Look At Me Now,” “I’m Going In” and “Got Money,” Wayne revisited his standout mixtape, No Ceilings, before ceding the stage to Nicki Minaj. The Young Money empress was ready for combat. She entered to a blistering scene of “Gladiator” playing on the enormous LCD screen behind the stage. An unknown person in a monk’s outfit walked to the front of the stage followed by Nicki’s barbies in their pink bobs. Rising through a propelled entrance underneath the stage, the Pink Friday star rocketed onto the stage to “Roman’s Revenge.” Sporting a white-and-pink body-hugging one-piece suit and a Bride of Frankenstein-like wig, Nicki was flamboyant in her “Roman” persona. She took a football onstage and ran through a cadre of her dancers –clad in helmets, while Nicki wore shoulder pads — en route to a touchdown and spike. The “Moment 4 Life” star was also flirtatious. She invited a man onstage with her (after another one tried to rush the stage before security escorted him off) for a lap dance. “There’s three rules,” she told the lucky participant. “Keep your legs open, hands behind your back and keep your mouth shut.” Then, as Sean Kingston’s “Letting Go,” featuring the Queens lyricist, boomed on the speakers, she teased her guest with a dutty-whine thrust. Wayne returned to the stage after 30 minutes, and after a brief Rebirth set, the benevolent CEO invited Lil Twist out for their new collaboration “Love Affair.” Mack Maine, Jae Millz and Nicki joined the boss for “Bed Rock.” Young Money’s latest signee, Cory Gunz, proved to be the most energetic of the crew when the Bronx upstart arrived next for a frenetic rendition of “6 Foot 7 Foot.” Rick Ross and Travis Barker rounded out the bill. The Blink-182 drummer was joined by Beastie Boys DJ Mixmaster Mike for a heart-racing set. Barker performed his set inside an oversize Ghetto Blaster radio as he pounded on the brass for the title track of his solo debut, Can a Drummer Get Some. Miami Don Rick Ross was as breezy as a Florida sunset. His 30 minutes included his breakout hits “Hustlin’ ” and “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast).” “I need a moment of silence,” Ross told the audience. “Life is a beautiful thing. There’s nothing more beautiful than life.” Wayne was just as effusive about his circumstances toward the end of the show. “Make some noise for Tupac,” he announced. “Make some noise for Biggie. Make some noise for my n—a Nate Dogg . Make some noise for Michael Jackson, y’all. “All the people I named taught me one thing,” Wayne added. “And that’s how to hustle.” Will you check out Wayne’s I Am Music II Tour? Lil’ Kim Explains Nicki Minaj Battle: ‘I Have To Fight For My Fans’

‘They thought I was gonna sit back and let them do what they were doing,’ MC tells ‘RapFix Live’ about Nicki’s crew. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil’ Kim on “RapFix Live” Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News Lil’ Kim wanted deference from Nicki Minaj . Now, however, it may take much more than that from the upstart who was inspired by the veteran rapper. The two female MCs have been bickering for some time, in interviews and in song, but it seems Kim may want a 50 Cent-to-Ja Rule knockout blow, stopping the Young Money raptress in her tracks. “This is the thing: It’s just, it’s really, like, at the end of the day, I do what I have to do, and I’m gonna keep doing what I have to do,” Kim told MTV News during her appearance Thursday (March 3) on “RapFix Live.” “I’m gonna do me. They’re the ones that brought this about. It could have been that simple. But what they did was underestimate me. They thought I was gonna sit back and let them do what they were doing. I’m gonna let everybody know: I’m on my Hollywood sophisticated, but I’ll bring it back if I have to. And that’s in life. I can’t help it. I’m G’d up from my feet up. If I have to handle my business, I’mma handle my business. And I have to fight for my fans.” Kim claimed her battle against Nicki is a challenge because she “has a powerful building behind her,” referencing her label, Universal Records. But Kim remains resilient, saying her battle is for her fans as much as it’s against Nicki. “What kind of message would that send to my fans if I just sit back and watched?” she said. “Let this girl do what she’s doing. My fans were more fumed than I was. They were looking like, ‘Do you see this? Do you hear this?’ But at the end of the day, I understand what they were feeling. I owe my fans a whole lot.” What do you think of Kim’s crusade against Nicki? Let us know in the comments. Anthony Hopkins On ‘The Rite’: ‘I Know How To Scare People’

In new film, Oscar-winner plays unorthodox exorcist Father Lucas. By Kara Warner Anthony Hopkins Photo: MTV News If Anthony Hopkins fans know anything, it’s the fact that the Oscar-winner knows how to scare the pants off of moviegoers. The obvious, most-famous example is his award-winning turn as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in “Silence of the Lambs” and the subsequent sequels. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Sir Hopkins play dark and devious, but with the release of exorcism thriller “The Rite” on Friday (January 28), fans can reacquaint themselves with a bit of Hopkins’ tricks and treats. In the film, which is based on real-life events, Hopkins plays unorthodox exorcist Father Lucas. Without delving into spoiler territory — no more than what the creepy promotional posters give away — when MTV News caught up with the actor recently, we asked him to take us through his process of playing possessed. Hopkins explained that most of his performances come from extensive preparation. For “The Rite,” he learned Latin and Italian for certain scenes, and spent a lot of time alone in his hotel room going over the script. “I would be there in my den, my man’s cave, going over and over [the] script,” Hopkins said. “Gradually, as you go through it over and over, all these voices and interpretations come to you,” he explained, adding that by the time he was ready to film the key possession sequences, he knew the material so well he was open to improvisation. “I put all kinds of very suggestive sexual stuff into it which they cut out, but stuff that would provoke people. I knew that the response was good because [director] Mikael H

Nicki Minaj’s ‘Moment 4 Life’ Video: How Are Her Acting Skills?

An acting coach weighs in on the MC’s flair for the dramatic. By Jocelyn Vena Nicki Minaj in her “Moment 4 Life” music video Photo: Young Money / Universal Nicki Minaj is one of the hottest MCs in the game, but in her “Moment 4 Life” video , the singer also shows off her acting abilities, playing her fairy godmother, Martha, and a Roman-inspired, Cinderella-like version of herself. The New York native does has a background in drama, having attended New York’s famous LaGuardia High School, and now it seems she’s putting some of that training to good use. So how do her skills rate? “I think she has a great personality that comes through; very vibrant. I love her energy. I love her rapping ability,” said Roger Del Pozo, assistant director of admissions at New York Film Academy, who helps handle acting auditions for the school. “As an actress, probably not that subtle, but I don’t think that subtlety is going to be her strong point anyways.” Nicki may be a skilled MC, but she’s still a bit of an amateur actress, and Del Pozo offered her some advice: “She should probably be trying to be a little more natural, a little more realistic; it’s a little over-the-top,” he said. “I’d like to see her a little more subtle, trusting the camera a little bit more.” Of the two characters she plays in the clip, Del Pozo has a favorite: “I think I like the Nicki Minaj character, ’cause she’s cuter and you see her natural energy come through a little more,” he said. “I think she’s funny and she’s very expressive. With the right material, she would do a good job. Her straight acting ability, I’d probably give her a 6, and as a just a performer in general, I’d probably give her a 9 or a 10.” In an exclusive interview following the premiere of “Moment 4 Life,” Nicki called acting her “favorite part of the video” and explained why Roman is her favorite character to play. “I think I started liking Roman more because everybody else liked Roman,” she said. “Everybody wanted to see what outlandish thing he would say next. And I think people are expecting him to do something real crazy on the next album, so I’m having fun prepping him for the sophomore album.” How would you rate Nicki’s acting abilities?
